• Can I get information about the IIS7 virtual directory from Application_Start?

  I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application. In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory? Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up. Does anyone know how to do this or have a better suggestion?

• How to gather usage statistics for iPhone app?

  I am in the process of releasing my first iPhone app. It's a simple utility, I'd just like to gauge the release process, app lifetime and trends, just so it can help make more realistic choices in future apps. I think it would be nice to have usage statistics in addition to download stats from Apple. For example, how many times is the app opened by each user, what iPhone OS version do they have, etc. I think some of it would simply be to try and connect to a known URL on one of my domains, passing it anonymous information (let's say, connect to http://mydomain.net/stats?app=myApp&version=1.0.0&os=3.1.2&used=18). My questions are: is that forbidden in any way by Apple's rules? (none that I could find, at least) does that seem reasonable to you? are there existing frameworks that would do that simpler/better that writing my own code?

• Magento - blank lines being added to wsdl file

  I am trying to call the API but I keep getting a soap error that can't load the file. I found that the reason is there are about 3 blank lines at the top of the XML file that is returned. I found this by doing wget url. This use to work just fine, when I debug through the API controller the response or xml looks fine all the way through, I don't see any spaces at all. I have no idea what might be causing this. I don't think there is anything we modified that would do this.

• Issues rendering image in flash via Context.Response.Write C# asp.

  I am having an issue rendering images in flash via a character array. I am sending it from a webhandler via Context.Response.Write as a Base64CharacterArray. It functions 100% properly in a windows environment, however when using a Mac the image data is not retrieved correctly causing the image to appear incorrectly. It does not affect the data,however as it is rendered properly in a player which accesses the data via a webservice. I am at the end of my rope on this one. Anything will help. • Styling a list as tabs with a background overflowing into content

  I couldn't think of any better way to name this question, but I'll explain. I have a mediawiki website with a background pattern (like parchment) behind the articles. At the top of each article I want to have tabs like wikipedia does (with page | talk | edit etc links). The problem is, the tabs should seamlessly fit with the article's background and I can't figure out if this is actually possible. The way I was trying to do it was positioning the list inside the actual content div and give the <li items a transparent background, but as far as I can see there's no way to color the rest of the <ul's background black without affecting the <li's in there. • where do i put html files in my web-app folder for a lift project with maven?

  I'm new to Lift framework for scala. For some reason, index.html resides in the web-app directory, and when I start up jetty, http://localhost:8080/ will point to that index.html file just fine. However, if I put a login.html file in the same folder as the index.html, and then go http://localhost:8080/login, Lift does not serve the file. Where do I need to put the files to get them register? I am a little lost because the behaviour only seems to work for index.html and nothing else. • facebook graph api..get friends of friends

  I am using the FB graph api to get a list of my friends' friends using: https://graph.facebook.com/<id>/friends?access_token=<token> Now the weird thing is that this works for some of my friends and does not work for some others. Could somebody tell me why this is happening and a possible fix? In cases where it does not work, I get the following message: "Can't lookup all friends of YYYYYY. Can only lookup for the logged in user (XXXXX), or friends of the logged in user with the appropriate permission" And I repeat, I AM ABLE to get friend lists of some of my friends using the above URL. What permissions are being mentioned here?

  For one specific client I have to use PHP. This and this question were 2 years old. I'd like to know is there any update of opinion for year 2010? My background on web development is mainly rails. I can code in PHP (for example, write a module for Drupal) but never used any PHP framework for any project. • spring json writes more json then i want

  I am using the json spring view in order to return a simple JSON object from my controller. The problem is that its returning more data then i want. it is returning the validation errors and things inside of my model when all i am doing is this in the controller: Map model = new HashMap() model.put("success", "true"); return new ModelAndView("jsonView", model); If you look at the bottom of this page in the docs it looks like i am getting back data that POST would return. i am not doing a post, i am doing a GET by going directly to the URL with params. How do i get this lib to return just the data in my model?

• Confirmation box pops up more than once using ajax

  I'm using Ajax to delete records and display an animated message (function display_message) when this record is deleted, but I noticed that the confirmation box pops up depending on the number of records. for example if I have 2 records in my list and I want to delete on of them.The confirmation box pops up twice before deleting and the same thing happen with the message, It appears twice(I'm using a message that fade in and out), and so on(3 records - 3 pops up, etc). I tried a lot to resolve it but I haven't succeed . • asp:SqlDataSource binded to asp:DropDownList

  I have a asp:SqlDataSource and asp:DropDownList components on my page. On normal page it works ok. Now I'd like to put this on new page with url like ...mypage.aspx?transactionID=2. In Page_Load I would like to set Transaction drop down selected index to 2. But it always binds to 1. I assume, that things happen in this order: in Page_Load I set selected index to 2. Then asp:SqlDataSource's select statement executes and binds to DropDownList. That's why selected index of my DropDownList is always 1, no matter what I set it in Page_Load. So, how can I bind asp:SqlDataSource to asp:DropDownList and also set it's selected index parameter to some integer?

• IE7 not digesting JSON: "parse error"

  While trying to GET a JSON, my callback function is NOT firing. $.ajax({ type:"GET", dataType:'json', url: myLocalURL, data: myData, success: function(returned_data){alert('success');} }); The strangest part of this is that my JSON(s) validates on JSONlint this ONLY fails on IE7...it works in Safari, Chrome, and all versions of Firefox. If I use 'error', then it reports "parseError"...even though it validates! Is there anything that I'm missing? Does IE7 not process certain characters, data structures (my data doesn't have anything non-alphanumeric, but it DOES have nested JSONs)? I have used tons of other AJAX calls that all work (even in IE7), but with the exception of THIS call. An example data return here is: {"question":{ "question_id":"19", "question_text":"testing", "other_crap":"none" }, "timestamp":{ "response":"answer", "response_text":"the text here" } } I am completely at a loss. Hopefully someone has some insight into what's going on...thank you!

• Is it a bad idea to have a login dialog inside an iframe?

  We're creating a website where we will be giving out code snippets to our users which they can place on their own websites. These snippets contain a link a javascript include. When clicking the link, an iframe containing the login dialog to our site opens. The user then authenticates inside the iframe, does his work and when he leaves the iframe his session is closed. We've got it working allready and it's very slick. Our main concern though is phishing. The user has absolutely now way of veryifying where the login page is really coming from. On the other hand, phising attacks are also succesfull even if the user can see the fake-url in the address bar. Would you enter your (OpenId) credentials in an iframe? Does anyone know a pattern with which we could minimise the chances of a phishing attack?

• How to send reminder notifications to subscribers for renewal from SQL Server 2005?

  I have a table in SQL DB, namely dbo.subscribers, it contains following columns: -SubscriberID -JoinDateTime The business logic says a subscription last for 2 weeks and a reminder should be sent after 7 days from the JoinDateTime. The way that the system was designed to send reminders are via a URL call, e.g. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/renew_userid=SubscriberID/ and that can only be called from our webserver which is the only whitelisted IP machines given. Currently there is a windows service written to query the DB once a day at midnight to grab all expiring subscribers and send them reminders, however this batch approach only sends reminders to the nearest date, well, I could have set the interval down from 1 day to 1 hour such that the service can send notifications out closer to the exact JoinDateTime + 7 days requirements. I have heard a stored procedure can be written and perform task like this to a nearly real-time manner, if yes, please give me some hints on how to do it. Another question is - is SSRS bit of an overkill to perform things like this? Please advice. TIA

• JQuery response is null but actual response is not

• ASP.NET MVC submitting json array to controller as regular post request (nonajax)

  All the examples of json I can find online only show how to submit json arrays w/ the jquery command $.ajax(). I'm submitting some data from a custom user control as a json array. I was wondering if it's possible to submit a json array as a regular post request to the server (like a normal form) so the browser renders the page returned. Everything works fine but the browser stays on the page after submitting. • rsvg doesn't render linked images

  I use the python rsvg bindings to render an svg image into cairo and save to file, which mostly works. But if the svg file contains a linked image, like so: <image href="static/usrimgs/tmpDtIKpx.png" x="10" y="10" width="600px" height="400px"></image> the image doesn't show up in the final file (the rest of the svg renders just fine). The relative path is correct based on where the script is running, but I'm guessing there's some problem with the fact that it would normally be a relative URL, not a relative filepath. How do I get around this?

• IIS not serving up .dat files.

  Hi all, I have a ASP MVC web application that uses a plugin to load images and points for a 3d application. When debugging with the the Visual Studio development server the images and the points are served up great... http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s19/littleniv/Debugging/local.png Second image: same url but iis.png When running in IIS 7 though the .Dat point files do not serve and produce a 404. I've noticed the caching is marked as private in fiddler, but i don't know what this means. Can anyone help? Cheers, Stu
