  can any body tell me how can i store Java Date to Mysql datetime...? when i am trying to do so...only date is stored and time remain 00:00:00 in mysql date stores like this... 2009-09-22 00:00:00 i want not only date but also time...like 2009-09-22 08:08:11 please help me.... • Getting a NullReferenceException Error when invoking a Select File Dialog Box

  Hey everyone This is a real newbie question. I have simple app that selects a picture and display's that picture in a PictureBox. I decided to mess with the Opacity Attribute so I added a timer and created this cool effect where the Main Form's Opacity is increased by 20% every 400 miliseconds. The problem is that now when I click the button that invokes the Select File Dialog Box I'm getting a NullReferenceException error. private void tmrClock_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (ViewerForm.ActiveForm.Opacity != 1) { ActiveForm.Opacity = ActiveForm.Opacity + .20; } } The error message is pointing to the if statement. • Is INT the correct datatype for ABS(CHECKSUM(NEWID()))?

  I'm in the process of creating unique customers ID's that is an alternative Id for external use. In the process of adding a new column "cust_uid" with datatype INT for my unique ID's, When I do an INSERT into this new column: Insert Into Customers(cust_uid) Select ABS(CHECKSUM(NEWID())) I get a error: Could not create an acceptable cursor. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SHQ2IIS1" returned message "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. I've check all data types on both tables and the only things that has changed is the new column in both tables. The update is being done on one Big @$$ table...and for reasons above my pay grade, we would like to have new uid's that are different form the one's that we currently have "so users don't know how many accounts we actually have." Is INT the correct datatype for ABS(CHECKSUM(NEWID())) ?

  I admit, I'm an .NET n00b. Basically what I'm trying to do is I have a page with a text box on it and an image button. On click of the image button I want it to show a view control I have set up. Inside this view control is an image and some text. • How do I remove duplicate SQL Server 2008 instances after upgrading from SQL Server 2005?

  I've just upgraded an existing SQL Server 2005 to 2008 by running the installer (not the platform installer). It all seems to have worked - there were no errors reported and my code that connects to these databases still works fine. The problem is, when I try installing SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008 I am shown then following error message when I select to add new features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2008: The SQL Server instance 'SQL1MINUS102' already has an Instance ID '2' that is different than the specified Instance ID 'SQL1MINUS102'. Specifying more than one instance ID for the same SQL Server instance is not supported. Here is a screenshot of the installation dialog and the setup discovery report: Screenshot Notice that there are two instances with the same name. So any ideas how I should recifiy this so that I can install Management studio? Thanks in advance

• DrawRect on the iPhone vs. the Mac

  I am an experienced iPhone dev beginning to work on my first Mac app. One thing that is really throwing me off is the differences between UIView and NSView. It seems that I cannot set the background color of a NSView via interface builder as I can with a UIView. It also seems that I cannot do it by simply sending a setBackgroundColor: message to it. All the examples I have seen are overriding drawRect: in a subclass of NSView. Is that really the only way to do it? What is the conceptual difference here, and why is it this way? NOTE: I am only trying to set the background color to the default grey.

  I work with Delphi 6 and SQL Server 2008. With Windows Vista everything runs ok. But since i change my OS to Windows 7 all my projects started to show a message when i'm trying to compile them that says "Stored procedure (SPname). Doesn't found or doesn't exist in the server. I look my server and it has the Sp with the correct name. i used ODBC connection and try the SQL Server and the SQL Native client 10.0 but the problem continues. the projects connect to the D.B with no problem until i try to run a SP. if i run the same projects in a vista again they work fine. If any of you can help me i really appreciate.......

• hg unshelve not working

  Our team is just getting started with Mercurial. One of the first things we've started to play with is hg shelve. Locally, I have no problem shelving changes. It all works perfectly from what I can tell. However, when I try to unshelve, I get the restoring backup files message, but when I run hg diff, there are no changes, and my changes are missing from the code. If i do hg unshelve -i I can see the diff, but again, trying to unshelve seems to have no effect. I've been trying to test it with some very simple changes that shouldn't be a problem in terms of conflicts, e.g. adding a test comment. I should note that I've tried hg unshelve -f after which it says unshelve completed but again, my changes are not restored. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? If it matters: Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 1.5.1+20100405)

  Hi all, I know Android cannot handle PDFs natively. However, the Nexus One (and possibly other phones) come pre-installed with QuickOffice Viewer. How would I determine whether the user has a PDF viewer installed? Currently, the code to start the PDF download looks pretty simple: Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW); intent.setData(Uri.parse(url)); startActivity(intent); After download, the user clicks on the downloaded file to invoke the viewer. However, if there is no PDF viewer, Android reports "Cannot download. The content is not supported on the phone." I want to determine if the user will get this message, and if so, direct them to PDF apps in the Android Market. Thanks!

The following code of course works fine, but selects all the columns, some of which I'm simply not interested in: var errors = (from error in db.ELMAH_Error select error).ToList(); return View(errors); I'm brand spanking new to MVC2 + L2E, so maybe I'm just not thinking in the right mindset yet, but this seems counter-intuitive. Is there an easy way to select a limited number of columns, or is this just part of using an ORM?

I'm trying to create mdf database (Add new Item ...)and I recieve the following error message: "a network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verfy that instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named pipes Provider:40 - could not open connection to SQL)" Why ? Is it possible to create mdf database with SQL 2008 Express ? If it is then what to do ?

• How can I detect when the .NET Framework feature is "turned off" in Windows 7 / Vista?

  My application requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. I recently ran into a customer that had the .NET Framework installed but turned off on Windows Vista (also applies to Windows 7). In this case, my installer (InstallShield 2009) does not prompt the user to install the Framework (because it is already installed) and when my application runs it crashes immediately. I tried another .NET application and it also crashes immediately. Is there any way to detect this situation and handle it more gracefully? Just detecting this during install is not ideal since the .NET Framework can be turned off at any time. Ideally, the application would be able to check and display a friendly message to the user telling them they need to turn on the .NET Framework. EDIT: "Turning off" the .NET Framework in Windows Vista or Windows 7 is not the same as uninstalling it. • Check if NFS share is mounted in python script

  I wrote a python script that depends on a certain NFS share to be available. If the NFS share is not mounted it will happily copy the files to the local path where it should be mounted, but fail later when it tries to copy some files back that were created on the NFS server. I'd like to catch this error specifically so I can print a useful error message that will tell the users of this script what they have to do. My first idea would be to execute mount using subprocess and then check the output for this nfs share. But I'm wondering if there isn't a nicer and more robust method of doing it.

I don't know why since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. • Best way to force Spring shutdown from a bean?

  My application uses a Spring DefaultMessageListenerContainer to process incoming messages. The main method of the app already registers a shutdown hook. Question is this: what is the best way to force the application context to shut down? If I throw a RuntimeException in the message listener, it is handled by the container, and not passed on. Is calling System.exit acceptable? Do I pass along the ApplicationContext to every class that needs to shut down, so I can call close() on it?

  It's no secret that application logs can go well beyond the limits of naive log viewers, and the desired viewer functionality (say, filtering the log based on a condition, or highlighting particular message types, or splitting it into sublogs based on a field value, or merging several logs based on a time axis, or bookmarking etc.) is beyond the abilities of large-file text viewers. I wonder: Whether decent specialized applications exist (I haven't found any) What functionality might one expect from such an application? (I'm asking because my student is writing such an application, and the functionality above has already been implemented to a certain extent of usability)

• Is it possible to create a sub window which will not deactivate the parent?

  Normally when creating a sub window (WS_POPUP), the child window will become activate and the parent will become deactivated. However, with menus, both remain active. At least I am assuming the menu is active, it at least has focus. Example: Click on the file menu in notepad, the menu appears, yet the notepad window still looks active. Is it possible to mirror this behavior with either a window style or responding to a particular message? Thanks Another example: Combo boxes seem to show a subwindow, yet do not deactivate the window. And you can click on that subwindow, while still maintaining an activate main window. Any ideas on how to grab the class /style of that window?

• Renamed MySQL table not renamed for INSERT queries?

  After renaming one of my MySQL MyISAM tables from test_tablename to tablename, I have found that if I try to execute an INSERT (or REPLACE) query, I get the following message: 1146: Table 'dbname.test_tablename' doesn't exist I have triple-checked my database abstraction code, and verified this by running the query directly on the server. According to the MySQL server, the CREATE TABLE syntax is tablename, as expected, and when I run SHOW TABLES, it lists tablename as expected. Is there any reason for this to happen? More importantly, is there an easier way to fix this than dumping, dropping, re-creating, and reloading the table?

• MyFaces Test Framework not working with JSF 2.1

  we have a lot of tests that uses Myfaces Test Framework for JSF 2.0. http://myfaces.apache.org/test/index.html Problem is we can't get it to work with JSF 2.1. Does anyone know a workaround or a way to solve this? When we run the tests we get the following error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Application was not properly initialized at startup, could not find Factory: javax.faces.application.ApplicationFactory It works fine with jsf 2.0 though. A typical use case in our code: // code block; assertFalse("Error message not expected. ", facesContext .getMessages().hasNext()); JSF 2.1 has a few syntax changes so my guess would be that's the problem.

• Windows Mobile 6.5 flick (scrolling with inertia) not working

  After upgrading to windows mobile 6.5, my ListView control does not work properly with custom items (rows with alternate colors) and the new gesture mechanism... On a mobile device, if the user initiates a flick or pan, after scrolling the first few items, the last items are not shown on the screen, but will show up if the user explicitly taps on them -- so basically the last screen is just white. The WM_DRAWITEM message is sent to all children though, but they just don't show up on the screen. Scrolling with a bar works fine. Any ideas? I have seen some reports of similar behavior from other users, but not sure if this is a bug in the listview control itself or if there is something else that needs to/can be implemented to support flick and pan actions. The application code currently doesn't handle WM_GESTURE messages, so the flick action is done with Microsoft's own code to support legacy applications. Thanks!

  Hey guys, quick question, I have this query, and I am trying to get the latest comment for each topic and then sort those results in descending order (therefore one comment per topic). I have what I think should work, but my join always messes my results up. Somehow, it seems to have sorted the end results properly, but has not taken the latest comment from each topic instead it seems to have just taken a random comment.   I am trying to read a matlab file into R using R.matlab but am encountering this error: require(R.matlab) r <- readMat("file.mat", verbose=T) Trying to read MAT v5 file stream... Error in readTag(this) : Unknown data type. Not in range [1,19]: 18569 In addition: Warning message: In readMat5Header(this, firstFourBytes = firstFourBytes) : Unknown MAT version tag: 512. Will assume version 5. How can this issue be solved or is there an alternative way to load matlab files? I can use hdf5load but have heard this can mess with the data. Thanks!
