• git pull crashes after other member push something

  Here it's the story... we have a Github account. I clone the repository ... then I can work with it, commit things, push things, etc ... I use Linux with command line and git version 1.7.7.3 Then other user, using Eclipse and git plugin for eclipse eGit 1.1.0 pushes something, and it appears in the github web pages as the last commit, but when I try to pull: $ git pull remote: Counting objects: 13, done. remote: Compressing objects: 100% (6/6), done. remote: Total 9 (delta 2), reused 7 (delta 0) Unpacking objects: 100% (9/9), done. error: unable to find 3e6c5386cab0c605877f296642d5183f582964b6 fatal: object 3e6c5386cab0c605877f296642d5183f582964b6 not found "3e6c5386cab0c605877f296642d5183f582964b6" is the commit hash of the last commit, done by the other user ... there's no problem at all to browse it through web page ... but for me it's impossible to pull it. It's strange, because my command line output tells about that commit hash, so it knows that one is the last one commit in the github system, but my git can not pull it ! Maybe the git protocol used in eGit is incompatible with the console git 1.7.7.3...

• What would cause native gem extensions on OS X to build but fail to load?

  I am having trouble with some of my rubygems, in particular those that use native extensions. I am on a MacBookPro, with Snow Leopard. I have XCode 3.2.1 installed, with gcc 4.2.1. Ruby 1.8.6, because I'm lazy and a scaredy cat and don't want to upgrade yet. Ruby is running in 32-bit mode. I built this ruby from scratch when my MBP ran OSX 10.4. When I require one of the affected gems in irb, I get a Load Error for the gem extension's bundle file. For example, here's nokogigi dissing me: > require 'rubygems' = true > require 'nokogiri' LoadError: Failed to load /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/nokogiri-1.4.1/lib/nokogiri/nokogiri.bundle This is also happening with the Postgres pg and MongoDB mongo gems. My first thought was that the extensions must not be building right. But gem install wasn't throwing any errors. So I reinstalled with the verbose flag, hoping to see some helpful warnings. I've put the output in a Pastie, and the only warning I see is a consistent one about "passing argument n of ‘foo’ with different width due to prototype." I suspect that this might be an issue from upgrading to Snow Leopard, but I'm a little surprised to experience it now, since I've updated my XCode. Could it stem from running Ruby in 1.8.6? I'm embarrassed that I don't know quite enough about my Mac and OSX to know where to look next, so any guidance, even just a pointer to some document I couldn't find via Google, would be most welcome. • PDO bindparam not working.

  I am trying to save data into a database using PDO. All columns save correctly with the exception of one. No matter what I try, I cannot get the data to go in. myfunc($db, $data) { echo $data; // <----- Outputs my data. example: 'jim jones' $stmt = $db->prepare("CALL test(:id, :data, :ip, :expires)"); $stmt->bindParam(':id', $id, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':data', $data, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':ip', $ip, PDO::PARAM_STR); $stmt->bindParam(':expires', $expires, PDO::PARAM_STR); ... } So even after verifying that the data variable in fact holds my data, the bindParam method will not bind. When I echo the data variable, I can see the data is there. It will not save though. If I copy the echo'd output of the data variable to screen and paste it into a new variable, it WILL save. I'm at this now for a couple of hours. Can someone please have a look? EDIT: I want to also mention that I have tried using bindValue() in place of bindParam() and the data for the data variable will still not save.

• How to render a DateTime in a specific format in ASP.NET MVC 3?

  If I have in my model class a property of type DateTime how can I render it in a specific format - for example in the format which ToLongDateString() returns? I have tried this... @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.MyDateTime.ToLongDateString()) ...which throws an exception because the expression must point to a property or field. And this... @{var val = item.MyDateTime.ToLongDateString(); Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => val); } ...which doesn't throw an exception, but the rendered output is empty (although val contains the expected value, as I could see in the debugger). Thanks for tips in advance! Edit ToLongDateString is only an example. • Encoding MySQL text fields into UTF-8 text files - problems with special characters

  I'm writing a php script to export MySQL database rows into a .txt file formatted for Adobe InDesign's internal markup. Exports work, but when I encounter special characters like é or umlauts, I get weird symbols (eg Chloë Hanslip instead of Chloë Hanslip). Rather than run a search and replace for every possible weird character, I need a better method. I've checked that when the text hits the database, it's saved properly - in the database I see the special characters. My export code basically runs some regular expressions to put in the InDesign code tags, and I'm left with the weird symbols. If I just output the text to the browser (rather than prompt for a text file download), it displays properly. When I save the file I use this code: header("Content-disposition: attachment; filename=test.txt"); header("Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8"); I've tried various combinations of utf8_encode() and iconv() to no avail. Can anybody point me in the right direction here?

• BitBlting multiple images to buffer

  So I've made a class which draws a transparant image to a buffer. the buffer is a HDC which has been used blackness on. What I am trying to do is draw three images to this buffer. Which means I am using this function three times. After that's done, I output it to the screen (using SRCCOPYing the buffer). • Replacing .NET WebBrowser control with a better browser, like Chrome?

  Is there any relatively easy way to insert a modern browser into a .NET application? As far as I understand, the WebBrowser control is a wrapper for IE, which wouldn't be a problem except that it looks like it is a very old version of IE, with all that entails in terms of CSS screw-ups, potential security risks (if the rendering engine wasn't patched, can I really expect the zillion buffer overflow problems to be fixed?), and other issues. I am using Visual Studio C# (express edition - does it make any difference here?) I would like to integrate a good web browser in my applications. In some, I just use it to handle the user registration process, interface with some of my website's features and other things of that order, but I have another application in mind that will require more err... control. I need: A browser that can integrate inside a window of my application (not a separate window) A good support for CSS, js and other web technologies, on par with any modern browser Basic browser functions like "navigate", "back", "reload"... Liberal access to the page code and output. I was thinking about Chrome, since it comes under the BSD license, but I would be just as happy with a recent version of IE. As much as possible, I would like to keep things simple. The best would be if one could patch the existing WebBrowser control, which does already about 70% of what I need, but I don't think that's possible. I have found an activeX control for Mozilla (http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/control.htm) but it looks like it's an old version, so it's not necessarily an improvement. I am open to suggestions

• Servlet requests are executed sequentially for no apparent reason in Glassfish v3

  Hi, I'm using Glassfish 3 Web profile and can't get http workers to execute concurrently requests on a servlet. This is how i observed the problem. I've made a very simple servlet, that writes the current thread name to the standard output and sleep for 10 seconds : protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName()); try { Thread.sleep(10000); // 10 sec } catch (InterruptedException ex) {} } } And when i'm running several simultaneous requests, I clearly see in the logs that the requests are sequentially executed (one trace every 10 seconds). INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(1) (10 seconds later...) INFO: http-thread-pool-8080-(2) etc. All my GF settings are untouched - it's the out-of-the-box config (the default thread pool is 2 threads min, 5 max if I recall properly). ...I really don't understand why the sleep() block all the others worker threads. • iPhone: variable type returned by yajl

  Hello, I'm quite new to iphone programming and I want to do the following stuff: get data from a JSON REST web server parse the received data using YAJL Draw a graph with those data using core-plot So, 1th item is fine, I use ASIHttpRequest which runs as espected 3rd is almost fine (I still have to learn how to tune core-plot). The problem I have is regarding 2nd item. I use YAJL as it seems to be the faster parser, so why not give it a try :) Here is the part of code that gets the data from the server and parse them: // Get server data response_data = [request responseData]; // Parse JSON received self.arrayFromData = [response_data yajl_JSON]; NSLog(@"Array from data: %@", self.arrayFromData); The parsing works quite well in fact, the NSLog output is something like: 2010-06-14 17:56:35.375 TEST_APP[3733:207] Array from data : { data = ( { val = 1317; date = "2010-06-10T15:50:01+02:00"; }, { val = 1573; date = "2010-06-10T16:20:01+02:00"; }, ........ { val = 840; date = "2010-06-11T14:50:01+02:00"; }, { val = 1265; date = "2010-06-11T15:20:01+02:00"; } ); from = "2010-06-10T15:50:01+02:00"; to = "2010-06-11T15:20:01+02:00"; max = "2590"; } According to th yajl-objc explanations http://github.com/gabriel/yajl-objc, the parsing returns a NSArray... The thing is... I do not know how to get all the values from it as for me it looks more like a NSDictionary than a NSArray... Could you please help ? • PHP gettext on Windows

  There's some tutorials out there for gettext (w/ Poedit)... unfortunately, it's mostly for a UNIX environment. And even more unfortunate is that I am running my WAMP server on Windows XP (but I am developing for a UNIX environment) and none of the tutorials can get gettext working properly for me. From the man page (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/book.gettext.php), it appears that it's a different process on a Windows environment. I've tried out some of the solutions in the comments but I still can't get it to work! Please, I've spent many hours on this, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to get this thing to work! (and I'm sure there are others out there who share my frustration). So far with my setup, I'm only getting output "Hello World!" whereas I should be getting the translated string. BindingExpression:Path=DesiredHeight; DataItem='Border' (Name='Content'); target element is 'RowDefinition' (HashCode=2034711); target property is 'Height' (type 'GridLength') Despite this error, the code works correctly. I have looked through the documentation and DesiredHeight does not appear to be a member of Border. Can anyone explain where DesiredHeight is coming from? Also, is there any way to resolve/suppress this error so my program output is clean?

• Inheritance of list-style-type property in Firefox (bug in Firebug?)

  Let's have a look at some comments on a page generated by Wordpress (it's not a site I maintain, I'm just wondering what's going on here). As these pages might disappear in the near future, I've put some screenshots online. Here's what I saw: Obviously, the list-item markers shouldn't be there. So I decided to look at the source using Firebug. As you can see, Firebug claims that the list-style property (containing none) is inherited from ol.commentlist. But if that's the case, why are the circle and the square visible? When checking the computed style, Firebug shows the list-style-types correctly. What's the correct behaviour? I just did a quick check in Chromium, whose Web Inspector gave a better view of reality (the list item markers were also displayed in this browser): According to WebKit, list-style of ol.commentlist isn't inherited, only the default value of list-style-type from the rendering engine. So, we may conclude that the output of both browsers is correct and that Firefox (Firebug) shows an incorrect representation of inherited styles. What does the CSS specification say? Inheritance will transfer the list-style values from OL and UL elements to LI elements. This is the recommended way to specify list style information. Not much about the inheritance of ol properties to uls. Is Firebug wrong in this respect? BTW, I managed to let the markers disappear by just changing line 312 of style.css to ol.commentlist, li.commentlist, ul.children { When also explicitly defining the list-style of ul.children to none, the markers are not painted. You can have a look at screenshots of Firebug and WebKit's Web Inspector in this case, if you like.

• Eclipse Maven web application - can not run on server anymore

  I have an maven eclipse webapp project that I was able to right click and 'Run on server' and it would deploy on tomcat. I recently did a 'maven - Update project conifgurations' and I now can NOT deploy and run the project as a webapp. Has anyone seen this before? The only output from tomcat is as follows - it doesnt even look like its trying to deploy the application. Though I am able to connect to the remote machine using Plink, i am not able to use the '-m file' option. • What is your workflow when designing HTML/CSS layouts?

  I have been working with PHP/MySQL as a hobby for close to a couple of years now, I have been working with photoshop for a very long time, I know CSS & HTML well enough to write without any reference, so, I would not consider myself someone who's very new at this. I have recently started developing websites professionally - (only person working on the project). I have seen the power of Joomla and how you can make a website ready for your customer in a matter of hours(if not minutes). I find it very hard to make layouts that remotely look like the themes on joomla. I find making even simple layouts a very cumbersome process and takes a lot of time to get a good enough output. I have a feeling I may not be using the right tools or workflow for the job. What I wanted to findout was, as part of the industry : How do, you, make your website when you do it from scratch? What are the tools that you use? What is your workflow? Just noted a few things I know already, for your reference(You can skip this if you like) I have seen the export for web for Photoshop that exports CSS - but (as far as I know) exports only absolutely positioned webpages so they need to be beaten and fixed if you want to use them for example for joomla. I have used the SiteGrinder plugin for Photoshop that exports HTML/CSS. It looks promising but haven't tried it extensively. One of the tools that save loads of time is FireBug. This makes it easy to edit html and css on the fly and get the page looking exactly as you want it. Recently stumbled upon fireworks. But haven't explored it much. Thanks! :)

CONTEXT: PL/pgSQL function "getmarketstats" line 2 at SQL statement I don't understand this output. I've tried using perform too, but I thought one only had to use that if the function doesn't return anything.
