  I have a loop which basically calls this every few seconds (after the timeout): while(true){ if(finished) return; switch(select(FD_SETSIZE, &readfds, 0, 0, &tv)){ case SOCKET_ERROR : report bad stuff etc; return; default : break; } // do stuff with the incoming connection } So basically for every few seconds (which is specified by tv), it reactivates the listening. This is run on thread B (not a main thread). There are times when I want to end this acceptor loop immediately from thread A (main thread), but seems like I have to wait until the time interval finishes.. Is there a way to disrupt the select function from another thread so thread B can quit instantly?

  Here is an example code, I am throwing an exception here, it works perfectly fine without the try/catch block of code for some reason. Do I have to handle this inside this method "EntryDelete" or Do I have to handle this where the method is called from? If so can I see an example, what do I have to import in there? • Mysqli prepared insert statements always returning false

  I'm writing prepared statements that are supposed to insert data into a table, on a database that's been pre-selected in the variable $GLOBALS['mysqli']. The connection has been tested, and that's not the problem I'm having. I'm only running into trouble whenever my prepared statement involves INSERT INTO. I know the tablename, and field names are correct, but $stmt is ALWAYS false. • jQuery & IE on Refresh/Reload

  Basically I create a page with a jQuery scroller on it. However in IE7 specifically, on refresh all the li's on the page are shown full out then they hide and the scroller begins. Anyone know how I can fire the jquery first, or prevent this from happening. I have a SHA1 password and PasswordSalt in my aspnet_Membership table. but, when I run a query from the server (a Sql Query), the reader reveals that the pass has returned as its cleartext equivalent.   I'm trying to write an Imap4 client. For that I use a SslStream to Connect to the Server. Everything's fine until I send the "Login" command. When I try to get an Answer to it, SslStream.ReadByte() block the thread. The result is that my programm crashes always. Whats happening here??   I need to monitor my audio line-in in linux, and in the event that audio is played, the sound must be recorded and saved to a file. Similiar to how motion monitors the video feed.   Is there a way to use anonymous code blocks in Groovy? But having variables with names like "inputStream0" and "inputStream1" is an antipattern too, so for this code I'm working on, anonymous code blocks would be helpful.

• Catching KeyboardInterrupt when working with PyGame

  I have written a small Python application where I use PyGame for displaying some simple graphics. I have a somewhat simple PyGame loop going in the base of my application, like so: stopEvent = Event() # Just imagine that this eventually sets the stopEvent # as soon as the program is finished with its task. disp = SortDisplay(algorithm, stopEvent) def update(): """ Update loop; updates the screen every few seconds. """ while True: stopEvent.wait(options.delay) disp.update() if stopEvent.isSet(): break disp.step() t = Thread(target=update) t.start() while not stopEvent.isSet(): for event in pygame.event.get(): if event.type == pygame.QUIT: stopEvent.set() It works all fine and dandy for the normal program termination; if the PyGame window gets closed, the application closes; if the application finishes its task, the application closes. The trouble I'm having is, if I Ctrl-C in the Python console, the application throws a KeyboardInterrupt, but keeps on running. The question would therefore be: What have I done wrong in my update loop, and how do I rectify it so a KeyboardInterrupt causes the application to terminate?

  I want to parse a c# file. The only thing I want is to determine if it contains a property with a specific name; just a simple true/false response. Or rather, since I'd checking for more than one property in each run, extracting a list of property names could be helpful I thought that I could create an elegant solution using the CodeDomProvider functionality (f# example): use reader = new StreamReader(existingFile) let codeProvider = new CSharpCodeProvider() let codeUnit = codeProvider.Parse(reader) Unfortunately, the Parse function is not implemented for the CSharpCodeProvider. Is there a way to get a CodeCompileUnit from a source file? Or is there another elegant way? (I had hoped to avoid regular expressions on this)?

  In a RoR app, I want to specialize ActiveRecord's update_attributes() method in one of my models, extracting some of the attributes for special handling and passing the rest of them to the original update_attributes() method. What am I missing? Specifically, how do I call the original update_attributes() method?

• Stopping looping thread in Java

  I'm using a thread that is continuously reading from a queue. I see two options: 1 - Since Thread.stop() is deprecated, I can implement a stopThisThread() method that uses a n atomic check-condition variable. 2 - Send a Death Event object or something like that to the queue. When the thread fetches a death event it exists. I prefer the 1st way, however, I don't know when to call the stopThisThread() method, as something might be on it's way to the queue and the stop signal can arrive first (not desirable). Any suggestions?

  Hello everyone- In my C# Console App I'm trying to use Regex to search a string to determine if there is a match or not. Below is my code but it is not quite working right so I will explain further. sSearchString is set to "_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations" and pDS.Name is a filename it is searching against. Using the code below it is set to true for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations and Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_LocationsMAXIMUM. There should be a match for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_Locations But Not for Nevada_One-Call_Pipeline_LocationsMAXIMUM. How can I change my code to do this properly? • Is there a linear-time performance guarantee with using an Iterator?

  If all that you're doing is a simple one-pass iteration (i.e. only hasNext() and next(), no remove()), are you guaranteed linear time performance and/or amortized constant cost per operation? Is this specified in the Iterator contract anywhere? Are there data structures/Java Collection which cannot be iterated in linear time? java.util.Scanner implements Iterator<String>. A Scanner is hardly a data structure (e.g. remove() makes absolutely no sense). Is this considered a design blunder? Is something like PrimeGenerator implements Iterator<Integer> considered bad design, or is this exactly what Iterator is for? (hasNext() always returns true, next() computes the next number on demand, remove() makes no sense). Similarly, would it have made sense for java.util.Random implements Iterator<Double>?

  I am working on rewriting my unexpected error handling process, and I would like to ask the community: What information do you capture both automatic, and manually, when software you have written crashes? Right now, I capture a few items, some of which are: Automatic: Name of app that crashed Version of app that crashed Stack trace Operating System version RAM used by the application Number of processors Screen shot: (Only on non-public applications) User name and contact information (from Active Directory) Manual: What context is the user in (i.e.: what company, tech support call number, RA number, etc...) When did the user expect to happen? (Typical response: "Not to crash”) Steps to reproduce. What other bits of information do you capture that helps you discover the true cause of an applications problem, especially given that most users simply mash the keyboard when asked to tell you what happened. For the record I’m using C#, WPF and .NET version 4, but I don’t necessarily want to limit myself to those.   Hi guys, I have an ajax view where I want to set a session variable like such: def upload(request, *args, **kwargs): request.session['test'] = 'test' request.session.modified = True print request.session.items() I have another normal view something like this: def advertise(request): print request.session.items() I get these two strings printed to shell: [('test', 'test')] [('_auth_user_backend', 'django.contrib.auth.backends.ModelBackend'), ('_auth_user_id', 26L)] Why is the session data that I set in the ajax view not passing to my regular views? If I set session data in regular view, everything works as fine, but it seems that ajax requests contain empty session data? Anybody dealt with something like this before? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• WPF: Hidden parent and visible child

  As of last night, I decided to start learning about WPF and have been reading through a number of online tutorials and books. This is a huge shift. One feature that has fascinated me is the implicit property value inheritance. I know in the WinForms world, if a control is not visible then neither are any of the child controls. Same seems to be true in the WPF world, as expected. I wondered if explicitly setting the child control's Visibility property would allow for an invisible parent and visible child and it did not. Is this something that would be possible in WPF? Can you have a container control that is hidden with visible children? This is more an exercise of curiosity than anything. I'm still trying to wrap my head around a lot of what I've been reading.
