• What to do with missing fields in sunspot-rails?

  I'm using sunspot/rails version 2. It's working great, but I can't figure out how to handle missing fields. If I don't have latitude and longitude this code will map it to 0,0 (near Africa): searchable do text :resume, :stored => true text :city, :boost => 5 latlon(:geo) { Sunspot::Util::Coordinates.new(latitude, longitude) } end I tried using two search blocks, each with a different conditional, but sunspot just uses the first searchable block. What I want to happen is for things missing locations to still be searchable, just not by location.

• Dynamically Loading a DLL

  I am trying to simply load a dll written in C# at run time and create an instance of a class in that dll. Assembly a = Assembly.LoadFrom(@"C:\Development\DaDll.dll"); Type type = a.GetType("FileReleaseHandler", true); TestInterface.INeeedHelp handler = Activator.CreateInstance(type) as TestInterface.INeeedHelp; No errors are thrown, and if I step through the code I can walk though the FileReleaseHandler Class as it executes the constructor but the value of handler is always null. What am I missing here? or even is there a better way I should be going about this?

• How do HTTP proxy caches decide between serving identity- vs. gzip-encoded resources?

  An HTTP server uses content-negotiation to serve a single URL identity- or gzip-encoded based on the client's Accept-Encoding header. Now say we have a proxy cache like squid between clients and the httpd. If the proxy has cached both encodings of a URL, how does it determine which to serve? The non-gzip instance (not originally served with Vary) can be served to any client, but the encoded instances (having Vary: Accept-Encoding) can only be sent to a clients with the identical Accept-Encoding header value as was used in the original request. E.g. Opera sends "deflate, gzip, x-gzip, identity, *;q=0" but IE8 sends "gzip, deflate". According to the spec, then, caches shouldn't share content-encoded caches between the two browsers. Is this true?

  If you assign an invalid date (like December 39th) to a datetime column ActiveRecord returns a "can't be blank" error when is should probably return an error like "Not a valid date" My question.   I have a horizontal LinearLayout and in it I have EditText and Spinner elements. Which attributes I need to adjust so I would get proportional widths: I want EditText to take 3/5 and Spinner - 2/5 of all available width? • How to deploy a c# application while including third party DLL's?

  To start with, I don't know much of deployment. I hope my question makes sense. I need to install/deploy a c# application to a number of desktops. It needs a third-party DLL : a c++ library ("lpsolve55.dll", for those interested, it is a free MIP/LP solver, see lpsolve.sourceforge.net/5.5/). I use it in my code in the following way: [DllImport("lpsolve55.dll", SetLastError = true)] public static extern bool add_column(int lp, double[] column); For testing, I have manually copied the .dll file to to project\bin\release, it works fine. My question: I will need an installer for the application, which will manage that the .dll will install as well. I am considering clickonce deployment since I am using visual studio express (2008), but any not too expensive solution will do. What would you advice?

• Errors in Decimal Calcs within def clean method?

  I'm attempting a few simple calculations in a def clean method following validation (basically spitting out a euro conversion of retrieved uk product price on the fly). I keep getting a TypeError. Full error reads: Cannot convert {'product': , 'invoice': , 'order_discount': Decimal("0.00"), 'order_price': {...}, 'order_adjust': None, 'order_value': None, 'DELETE': False, 'id': 92, 'quantity': 8} to Decimal so I guess django is passing through the entire cleaned_data form to Decimal method. • Logical value of an assignment in C

Also, I know its rather hack-ish, but is the while statement legal C? I would have to go through great contortions to put the assignment elsewhere in the code, so I'd be really nice if I could leave it there, but if it's so egregious that it makes everyone's eyeballs burst into flames, I'll change it.

  I struggle to find a model how to store a playlist with different type of items on it in Rails. Consider I have class Track end class Album has_many :tracks end class PlaylistItem belongs_to :playable belongs_to :playlist end class Playable belongs_to :playable, :polymorph => true end class Playlist has_many :playlist_items end I think I can use a polymorphic model "Playable" here since the Playlist can contain Tracks, Albums and maybe in the future also Movies. Also I would like to use STI for Track and Albums since they share some common attributes like title and length but also have totally different attributes. I modeled it like described here but it does not work. Anybody any idea how to model a Playlist that can contain many items of different kind?

• using subset but old variables still left

  I am working with a data set, which is basically daily usage data (let's just say variable X and Y) by different cities (about 150 cities). I have created a subset of data for only specific cities, choosing just 3 of the 150 cities. Then when I do tapply by cities, I get means for 3 cities but also get NA for all other 147 cities that was in the data set. I am using the below coding df<-read.csv(...) df_sub<-subset(df,df$City==1|df$City==3|df$City==19) X_Breakdown<-tapply(X,df_sub$City, mean, na.rm=TRUE) Print(X_Breakdown) City 1 City 2 15 NA City 3 City 4 12 NA City 5 City 6 NA NA Hope you get the idea. I would like to get a dataset that only contains the 3 cities that I'm interested in. It seems that the set of variables is encoded in R, is there a way to fix this? Kindly advise. Thanks

  Hi, I am creating small django application which holds some few questions (and answers for them) What I want to do is to show user random question, but only from those which was not solved by him yet. I wonder how to do this. For now, I defined user profile model this way: class UserProfile(models.Model): rank = models.IntegerField(default = 1) solvedQ = models.ManyToManyField(Question) user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) So solved problems are added this way: if user.is_authenticated(): profile = user.get_profile() profile.rank += 1 profile.solvedQ.add(Question.objects.get(id=id)) Now if the view must show random question, but not from already solved list... Is there a good way to intersect Questions and solvedQuestions.... so question is chosen from the unsolved list?

  I have a desktop application (forms) with a tab control, I assign a tab and a new custom webrowser control. I open up about 10 of these tabs. Each one visits about 100 - 500 different pages. The trouble is that if 1 webbrowser control has a problem it shuts down the entire program. I want to be able to close the offending webbrowser control and open a new one in it's place. Is there any event that I need to subscribe to catch a crashing or unresponsive webbrowser control ?   Hi, I'm very new to ruby. I'm trying to search for any instance of a word in a text file (not the problem). Then when the word is discovered, it would show the surrounding text (maybe 3-4 words before and after the target word, instead of the whole line), output to a list of instances and continue searching. Example "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog." Search word = "jumped" Output = "...brown fox jumped over the..." Any help is appreciated. Thanks! • Finding the attributes on the properties of an instance of a class

  Given an instance of a class I want to set properties on attributes at runtime. So I tried this, but as far as I can tell this finds the attributes on the class not the instance, so any changes I make to the attribute properties have no effect. var properties = myObject.GetType().GetProperties(); foreach (object prop in properties) { var attribute =prop.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(MyAttribute), true)[0]; //attribute.MyProp do some stuff } If I try using type descriptor like below, there is no way of getting to the attributes on the properties. var myObject= (MyClass) object; PropertyDescriptorCollection props = TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(myObject); //There is no props[0].GetCustomAttributes(
