ScriptManager emits ScriptReferences after ClientScriptIncludes. Why?

I have an application that uses a lot of javascript in a lot of different .js files. Each page can have any number and combination of different controls and each control can use a different set of js files. Instead of including all possible js files as <script src="xxx.js"> in the head of my master page, I thought I would reduce the amount of included files by getting each control to call ScriptManager.Scripts.Add(new ScriptReference("xxx.js")) - thus only the scripts that are actually needed by the page will be included. Well that bit works fine. But...the controls also use ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock fairly extensively too. (There are scenarios where the controls are inside update panels). I was disappointed to see that the ScriptManager emits the client script includes before the ScriptReferences. For example - see the test file and output at the end (this results in a JS error because $ is not defined). Am I being dumb or is this to be expected? I would have thought that a sensible thing for the ScriptManger to do would be to emit the ScriptReferences first and then the other stuff. Short of rolling my own ScriptManager like object to manage static JS file references, does anyone have any suggestions as to get the behaviour that I want from ScriptManager?? Thanks in advance. Appropriate programming design questions.

I have a few questions on good programming design. I'm going to first describe the project I'm building so you are better equipped to help me out. I am coding a Remote Assistance Tool similar to TeamViewer, Microsoft Remote Desktop, CrossLoop. It will incorporate concepts like UDP networking (using Lidgren networking library), NAT traversal (since many computers are invisible behind routers nowadays), Mirror Drivers (using DFMirage's Mirror Driver (http://www.demoforge.com/dfmirage.htm) for realtime screen grabbing on the remote computer). That being said, this program has a concept of being a client-server architecture, but I made only one program with both the functionality of client and server. That way, when the user runs my program, they can switch between giving assistance and receiving assistance without having to download a separate client or server module. I have a Windows Form that allows the user to choose between giving assistance and receiving assistance. I have another Windows Form for a file explorer module. I have another Windows Form for a chat module. I have another Windows Form form for a registry editor module. I have another Windows Form for the live control module. So I've got a Form for each module, which raises the first question: 1. Should I process module-specific commands inside the code of the respective Windows Form? Meaning, let's say I get a command with some data that enumerates the remote user's files for a specific directory. Obviously, I would have to update this on the File Explorer Windows Form and add the entries to the ListView. Should I be processing this code inside the Windows Form though? Or should I be handling this in another class (although I have to eventually pass the data to the Form to draw, of course). Or is it like a hybrid in which I process most of the data in another class and pass the final result to the Form to draw? So I've got like 5-6 forms, one for each module. The user starts up my program, enters the remote machine's ID (not IP, ID, because we are registering with an intermediary server to enable NAT traversal), their password, and connects. Now let's suppose the connection is successful. Then the user is presented with a form with all the different modules. So he can open up a File Explorer, or he can mess with the Registry Editor, or he can choose to Chat with his buddy. So now the program is sort of idle, just waiting for the user to do something. If the user opens up Live Control, then the program will be spending most of it's time receiving packets from the remote machine and drawing them to the form to provide a 'live' view. 2. Second design question. A spin off question #1. How would I pass module-specific commands to their respective Windows Forms? What I mean is, I have a class like "NetworkHandler.cs" that checks for messages from the remote machine. NetworkHandler.cs is a static class globally accessible. So let's say I get a command that enumerates the remote user's files for a specific directory. How would I "give" that command to the File Explorer Form. I was thinking of making an OnCommandReceivedEvent inside NetworkHandler, and having each form register to that event. When the NetworkHandler received a command, it would raise the event, all forms would check it to see if it was relevant, and the appropriate form would take action. Is this an appropriate/the best solution available? 3. The networking library I'm using, Lidgren, provides two options for checking networking messages. One can either poll ReadMessage() to return null or a message, or one can use an AutoResetEvent OnMessageReceived (I'm guessing this is like an event). Which one is more appropriate?

ASP.MVC 1.0 complex ViewModel not populating on Action

Hi, I'm 3 days into learning MVC for a new project and i've managed to stumble my way over the multitude of issues I've come across - mainly about something as simple as moving data to a view and back into the controller in a type-safe (and manageable) manner. This is the latest. I've seen this reported before but nothing advised has seemed to work. I suspect this is because the default model binder doesn't realise the HTML ItemId and Identifier elements rendered inline in the View map to the SearchFragment class. When I have two extra properties (ItemId and Identifier) in the IndexViewModel, the values are bound correctly. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, I must use the SearchFragment as I need this to strongly type the Search UserControl... as the control can be used anywhere it can operate under any parent view. I really don't want to make it use "magic strings". There's too much of that going on already IMO. I've tried prefixing the HTML with "Search." in the hope that the model binder would recognise "Search.ItemId" and match to the IndexViewModel "Search" property and the ItemId within it, but this doesn't work. I fear I'm going to have to write my own ModelBinder to do this, but surely this must be something you can do out-of-the-box?? Failing that is there any other suggestions (or link to someone who has already done this?) Here's hoping....

ASP.NET - Call required field validator before AJAX modalpopup, client side

I have an ASP.NET/C# application. The user fills out a form with required fields, then clicks a submit button. An AJAX popup message is then displayed, and if they confirm, their information is posted back to the server. The problem is that the AJAX popup is fired BEFORE the req validator. I need to interrupt this and run the req validator, and then if successful show the popup. I know the req validator is working, because if you cancel the popup message, the req text is shown next to the fields. AsyncPostBackTrigger Just flashing/flicking the UpdatePanel but not updating it

I am trying UpdatePanel & AsyncPostBackTrigger on master pages through find control method but problem is when I click on button (UpdateButton) It just flash/flick (No Postback) the UpdatePanle but still it don't update or refresh the gridview (images) inside the updatePanel. I have placed script Manger on the master page & an AJAX Update panel in a ContentPlaceHolder in the child page. Also, in another ContentPlaceholder there is an asp button (outside of the UpdatePanel). I want to refresh/reload the AJAX UpdatePanel with this asp button. Thanks for suggestions. How to bind to the sum of two data bound values in WPF?

I have designed an analog clock control. It uses the stroke from two ellipses to represent an outer border and an inner border to the clock face. I have exposed properties in the UserControl that allow a user to alter the thickness of these two borders. The Ellipse.StrokeThickness properties are then bound to these UserControl properties. At the moment, I am binding the UserControl property for the outer border thickness to the margins of the inner elements so that they are not hidden when the border size is increased. <Ellipse Name="OuterBorder" Panel.ZIndex="1" StrokeThickness="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource OuterBorderBrush}" /> <Ellipse Name="InnerBorder" Panel.ZIndex="5" StrokeThickness="{Binding InnerBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Stroke="{StaticResource InnerBorderBrush}"> ... <Ellipse Name="Face" Panel.ZIndex="1" Margin="{Binding OuterBorderThickness, ElementName=This}" Fill="{StaticResource FaceBackgroundBrush}" /> ... The problem is that if the inner border thickness is increased, this does not affect the margins and so the hour ticks and numbers can become partially obscured or hidden. So what I really need is to be able to bind the margin properties of the inner controls to the sum of the inner and outer border thickness values (they are of type double). I have done this successfully using 'DataContext = this;', but am trying to rewrite the control without this as I hear it is not recommended. I also thought about using a converter and passing the second value as the ConverterParameter, but didn't know how to bind to the ConverterParameter. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Any ideas? EDIT Interestingly, the Margin property can be bound to a data property of type double, but this does not seem to apply within a MultiBinding. Iphone: controlling text with delay problem with UIWebView

Hi, I've opted to use UIWebView so I can control the layout of text I've got contained in a local html document in my bundle. I want the text to display within a UIWebView I've got contained within my view. So the text isn't the whole view, just part of it. Everything runs fine, but when the web page loads I get a blank screen for a second before the text appears. This looks really bad. can anyone give me an example of how to stop this happening? I'm assuming I have to somehow hide the web view until it has fully loaded? Could someone one tell me how to do this? I have a Dynamic Web Project having a flat file (or say text file). I have created a servlet in which I need to use this file. "Warning reaching end of non-void fuction" with Multiple Sections that pull in multiple CustomCells

I'm getting "Reaching end of non-void function" warning, but don't have anything else to return for the compiler. How do I get around the warning?? I'm using customCells to display a table with 3 Sections. Each CustomCell is different, linked with another viewcontroller's tableview within the App, and is getting its data from its individual model. Everything works great in the Simulator and Devices, but I would like to get rid of the warning that I have. It is the only one I have, and it is pending me from uploading to App Store!! Within the - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {, I have used 3 separate If() statements-(i.e.==0,==1,==2) to control which customCells are displayed within each section throughout the tableview's cells. Each of the customCells were created in IB, pull there data from different models, and are used with other ViewController tableViews. At the end of the function, I don't have a "cell" or anything else to return, because I already specified which CustomCell to return within each of the If() statements. Because each of the CustomCells are referenced through the AppDelegate, I can not set up an empty cell at the start of the function and just set the empty cell equal to the desired CustomCell within each of the If() statements, as you can for text, labels, etc... My question is not a matter of fixing code within the If() statements, unless it is required. My Questions is in "How to remove the warning for reaching end of non-void function-(cellForRowAtIndexPath:) when I have already returned a value for every possible case: if(section == 0); if(section == 1); and if(section == 2). *Code-Reference: The actual file names were knocked down for simplicity, (section 0 refers to M's, section 1 refers to D's, and section 2 refers to B's). Why is FubuMVC new()ing up my view model in PartialForEach?

I'm getting started with FubuMVC and I have a simple Customer - Order relationship I'm trying to display using nested partials. However PartialForEach(x = x.Orders) does not, as nothing is rendered for the order. If I set a breakpoint on the Order constructor, I see that it initially gets called by the Index method on CustomersController, but then it gets called by FubuMVC.Core.Models.StandardModelBinder.Bind, so it is getting re-instantiated by FubuMVC and losing the content of the Orders collection. This isn't quite what I'd expect, I would think that PartialForEach would just pass the domain object directly into the partial. Am I missing the point somewhere? What is the 'correct' way to achieve this kind of result in Fubu?

C++ Serial Port Question

Problem: I have a hand held device that scans those graphic color barcodes on all packaging. There is a track device that I can use that will slide the device automatically. This track device functions by taking ascii code through a serial port. I need to get this thing to work in FileMaker on a Mac. So no terminal programs, etc... What I've got so far: I bought a Keyspan USB/Serial adapter. Using a program called ZTerm I was successful in sending commands to the device. Example: "C,7^M^J" I was also able to do the same thing in Terminal using this command: screen /dev/tty.KeySerial1 57600 and then type in the same command above(but when I typed in I just hit Control-M and Control-J for the carriage return and line feed) Now I'm writing a plug-in for FileMaker(in C++ of course). I want to get what I did above happen in C++ so when I install that plug-in in FileMaker I can just call one of those functions and have the whole process take place right there. I'm able to connect to the device, but I can't talk to it. It is not responding to anything. I've tried connecting to the device(successfully) using these: FILE *comport; if ((comport = fopen("/dev/tty.KeySerial1", "w")) == NULL){...} and int fd; fd = open("/dev/tty.KeySerial1", O_RDWR | O_NOCTTY | O_NDELAY); This is what I've tried so far in way of talking to the device: fputs ("C,7^M^J",comport); or fprintf(comport,"C,7^M^J"); or char buffer[] = { 'C' , ',' , '7' , '^' , 'M' , '^' , 'J' }; fwrite (buffer , 1 , sizeof(buffer) , comport ); or fwrite('C,7^M^J', 1, 1, comport); Questions: When I connected to the device from Terminal and using ZTerm, I was able to set my baud rate of 57600. I think that may be why it isn't responding here. But I don't know how to do it here.... Does any one know how to do that? I tried this, but it didn't work: comport->BaudRate = 57600; There are a lot of class solutions out there but they all call these include files like termios.h and stdio.h. I don't have these and, for whatever reason, I can't find them to download. I've downloaded a few examples but there are like 20 files in them and they're all calling other files I can't find(like the ones listed above). Do I need to find these and if so where? I just don't know enough about C++ Is there a website where I can download libraries?? Another solution might be to put those terminal commands in C++. Is there a way to do that? So this has been driving me crazy. I'm not a C++ guy, I only know basic programming concepts. Is anyone out there a C++ expert? I ideally I'd like this to just work using functions I already have, like those fwrite, fputs stuff. Thanks!

Calling popToRootViewControllerAnimated causing crash. How should I be doing this?

The app is for taking body measurements. The user can say I want to measure: legs, arms and neck, in the settings tab and in the main tab there is a view which loops round to take each measurement. This is achieved like so: i have tab controller the first tab has a navigation controller the first view controller on the storyboard and has one segue to itself the board loops round until it has all the measurements then it segues to a different controller the problem is: if the user changes which measurements they are taking in the settings tab, the first tab needs to completely reload, as if the app was just starting up, clearing down the whole nav stack etc. at the moment the tab controller calls popToRootViewControllerAnimated on the navigation controller in the measurements tab, but this is causing a crash. Each screen has a slider control and a call to titleForRow:forComponent: is being called on a deleted view causing it to crash. What am I doing wrong?! I want to learn and am not able to do it unless I have a real "mission" to complete. SO is my favorite and I can't imagine a better experience than actually recreating it but not in ASP. I'd like to use PHP+MySQL+jQuery. So far, I have been a self-taught programmer but I would like to master one paradigm that forces you to adhere to the standards. For instance, recently, jQuery forced me to use some "rules". The plugins were supposed to be written in a particular way and that's it. When I started off, everything seemed like Greek and Latin but when I finished a very small plugin, I felt really happy because it forced me to program in a certain way. I am looking for something like this only in a larger project. I've heard a lot about MVC and all but I am confused about the various frameworks out there. Zend seems awesome but looks heavy at the same time and also requires you to have a lot more control over the web-server whereas CakePHP is a good and a fast framework that needs only little control. Do I use one of these or just write my own MVC? I have the following goals: Goals: Site should be fast - I know this depends on my coding skills but I will learn on my way. The framework itself should not slow me down) Setting up the site should not require you to use command-line - This requirement is ok during development. But some frameworks like Symphony require you to initialize certain things through command-line Should support pluggable modules - For instance, if I want to be able to use the FCK editor, I should be able to organize things in a good way. Should be possible to extend - For instance, SO is mainly a Q&A site but I should be able to logically extend it into an Idea Management System (optional but I'm curious). This goes more into code re-usability I guess. I am comfortable with MySQL so I should be done with database design etc. with some serious effort. As for PHP, I can write code on my own but haven't really used any frameworks that much. jQuery, I started off recently and love it. I would be glad if someone can guide me during these initial steps. Precisely, when designing something like SO, I have the following questions: Do I use a framework? If yes, should it be MVC? If MVC, which one is a good and a scalable one? (I'd love something like jQuery that will not die anytime soon) How do I balance the functionality? The same logic can sometimes be made server centric or client centric. (more Ajax?). Is it a good idea to make a heavy javascript site considering the recent advances on client-side JS processing? Just in case anyone is wondering, I am not interested in commercializing any of this. I need a reason to learn something :)

How to maintain GridPane's fixed-size after adding elemnts dynamically

I need to create board game that can be dynamically change. Its size can be 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 or 8x8. I am jusing JavaFX with NetBeans and Scene builder for the GUI. I tried to set them equal minimum and maximum size but it didn't help they are still getting smaller. I searched on the web but didn't realy find same problem as mine. The only similar problem to mine was found here: Dynamically add elements to a fixed-size GridPane in JavaFX But his suggestion is to use TilePane and I need to use GridPane because this is a board game and it more easier to use GridPane when I need to do tasks such as getting to cell on row = 1 and column = 2 for example. Server.transfer causing HttpException

I am developing a C#/SQL ASP.NET web application in VS 2008. Currently I am using the Server.Transfer method to transfer control from one ASPX.CS file to another ASPX file. The first time through, this works. But after control is transferred to this new file it encounters a condition: if (restart == false) { where "restart" is a boolean variable. I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. Using GraphicsServices.h/GSEvent as well as compiling CLI iPhone tools with XCode

I sent this to KennyTM (has all the private framework headers on GitHub) but I figured I'd ask here too just in case someone has some good ideas or any way to help me out. I'm trying to write a command line utility that sends GSEvents to operate the keyboard, touch/drag elements onscreen, and operate hardware buttons (volume, home, sleep, etc.) I grabbed the MouseSupport code and tried to look through it, but I couldn't find the easiest way to send GSEvents. I'm hoping someone here can help me. First, what's the simplest way to declare a GSEvent and send it? I looked at the iPhone development wiki, but the documentation was very vague. I understand that there's a purple event port (?) that I have to send these events to, but I don't understand how to do that. Could someone offer examples for, say, touching at a coordinate, typing a certain key, or pressing a hardware button? Also, do I have to write or do anything special if I want this utility to operate all applications as well as Springboard? I don't know if this is a special case because I want it at the OS level. Ideally, I would SSH into the phone, start the program, and it would send GSEvents that would be handled by whatever application was open. As far as compiling this code, is there any way to do so under XCode? I don't know what sort of project template I should use (if any) and this is throwing me off. I don't need "build and go" support, I'm more than happy to scp the program over to the phone. I understand that compiling the code is also feasible on the phone. I have all of the headers from the SDK on my phone along with iphone-gcc, but when compiling some test programs I still get errors about not finding mach headers and CoreFoundation. Is there an easier way to do this? Lastly, are there other guides or pieces of literature that anyone can point me towards for learning more about this? I'm excited to get into open iPhone development (I have experience with the official SDK, but I want to go deeper). Thanks for any and all help people can offer!

Reliable way of generating unique hardware ID

Question: what's the best way to accomplish following. I have to come up with unique ID for each networked client, such that: it (ID) should persist once client software is installed on target computer, and should continue to persist if software is re-installed on same computer and same OS installment, it should not change if hardware configuration is modified in most ways (except changing the motherboard) When hard drive with client software installed is cloned to another computer with identical hardware configuration (or, as similar as possible), client software should be aware of that change. A little bit of explanation and some back-story: This question is basically age old question that also touches topic of software copy-protection, as some of mechanisms used in that area are mentioned here. I should be clear at this point that I'm not looking for a copy-protection scheme. Please, read on. :) I'm working on a client-server software that is supposed to work in local network. One of problems I have to solve is to identify each unique client in network (not so much of a problem), so that I can apply certain attributes to every specific client, retain and enforce those attributes during deployment lifetime of a specific client. While I was looking for a solution, I was aware of following: Windows activation system uses some kind of heavy fingerprinting mechanism, that is extremely sensitive to hardware modifications, Disk imaging software copies along all Volume IDs (tied to each partition when formatted), and custom, uniquely generated IDs during installation process, during first run, or in any other way, that is strictly software in its nature, and stored in registry or on hard drive, so it's very easy to confuse two Obvious choice for this kind of problem would be to find out BIOS identifiers (not 100% sure if this is unique through identical motherboard models, though), as that's the only thing I can rely on, that isn't duplicated, transferred by cloning, and that can't be changed (at least not by using some user-space program). Everything else fails as either being not reliable (MAC cloning, anyone?), or too demanding (in terms that it's too sensitive to configuration changes). Am I missing something obvious here? Sub-question that I'd like to ask is, am I doing it correctly, architecture-wise? Perhaps there is a better tool for task that I have to accomplish... Another approach I had in mind is something similar to handshake mechanism, where server maintains internal lookup table of connected client IDs (which can be even completely software-based and non-unique at any given moment), and tells client to come up with different ID during handshake, if duplicate ID is provided upon connection. That approach, unfortunately, doesn't play nicely with one of requirements to tie attributes to specific client during lifetime.
