  • 500 internal server error on certain page after a few hours

    - by Brian Leach
I am getting a 500 Internal Server Error on a certain page of my site after a few hours of being up. I restart uWSGI instance with uwsgi --ini /home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/ers_portal_uwsgi.ini and it works again for a few hours. The rest of the site seems to be working. When I navigate to my_table, I am directed to the login page. But, I get the 500 error on my table page on login. I followed the instructions here to set up my nginx and uwsgi configs. That is, I have ers_portal_nginx.conf located i my app folder that is symlinked to /etc/nginx/conf.d/. I start my uWSGI "instance" (not sure what exactly to call it) in a Screen instance as mentioned above, with the .ini file located in my app folder My ers_portal_nginx.conf: server { listen 80; server_name www.mydomain.com; location / { try_files $uri @app; } location @app { include uwsgi_params; uwsgi_pass unix:/home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/run_web_uwsgi.sock; } } My ers_portal_uwsgi.ini: [uwsgi] #user info uid = metheuser gid = ers_group #application's base folder base = /home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal #python module to import app = run_web module = %(app) home = %(base)/ers_portal_venv pythonpath = %(base) #socket file's location socket = /home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/%n.sock #permissions for the socket file chmod-socket = 666 #uwsgi varible only, does not relate to your flask application callable = app #location of log files logto = /home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/logs/%n.log Relevant parts of my views.py data_modification_time = None data = None def reload_data(): global data_modification_time, data, sites, column_names filename = '/home/metheuser/webapps/ers_portal/app/static/' + ec.dd_filename mtime = os.stat(filename).st_mtime if data_modification_time != mtime: data_modification_time = mtime with open(filename) as f: data = pickle.load(f) return data @a bunch of authentication stuff... @app.route('/') @app.route('/index') def index(): return render_template("index.html", title = 'Main',) @app.route('/login', methods = ['GET', 'POST']) def login(): login stuff... @app.route('/my_table') @login_required def my_table(): print 'trying to access data table...' data = reload_data() return render_template("my_table.html", title = "Rundata Viewer", sts = sites, cn = column_names, data = data) # dictionary of data I installed nginx via yum as described here (yesterday) I am using uWSGI installed in my venv via pip I am on CentOS 6 My uwsgi log shows: Wed Jun 11 17:20:01 2014 - uwsgi_response_writev_headers_and_body_do(): Broken pipe [core/writer.c line 287] during GET /whm-server-status (127.0.0.1) IOError: write error [pid: 9586|app: 0|req: 135/135] 127.0.0.1 () {24 vars in 292 bytes} [Wed Jun 11 17:20:01 2014] GET /whm-server-status => generated 0 bytes in 3 msecs (HTTP/1.0 404) 2 headers in 0 bytes (0 switches on core 0) When its working, the print statement in the views "my_table" route prints into the log file. But not once it stops working. Any ideas?

  • rsync from OS X to Ubuntu failing for large (>15GB) files

    - by johnny_bgoode
I'm trying to rsync a 15 GB file from my OSX box to a box running Ubuntu 10.04 server. rsync is transferring ~300-700Mb and then closing the connection with the following error: Read from remote host my.host.name: Connection reset by peer rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes [sender]: Broken pipe (32) rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (397214 bytes received so far) [sender] rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-40/rsync/io.c(452) [sender=2.6.9] The exact command I am executing is: rsync --progress --archive --inplace my.15GB.file.tgz my.host.name:~/ I am sure that there is enough free space on the Ubuntu box. Any ideas what could be causing the connection to drop?

  • Why can blocked IPs get through my iptables? What's wrong with this configuration?

    - by NeedSomeHelp
(Why can/How are) blocked IPs (get/getting) through my iptables? Hello and thanks for your consideration... I have configured iptables and included (below) output from the command "iptables --line-numbers -n -L" yet IP addresses (like 31.41.219.180) from IP blocks I have already blocked are getting through. Please take a look and share any input you may have. Thank you. P.S. The initial ACCEPT IP addresses are for CloudFlare. . • how do I access XHR responseBody from Javascript?

    - by Cheeso
I've got a web page that uses XMLHttpRequest to download a binary resource. Because it's binary I'm trying to use xhr.responseBody to access the bytes. I've seen a few posts suggesting that it's impossible to access the bytes directly from Javascript. This sounds crazy to me. Weirdly, xhr.responseBody is accessible from VBScript, so the suggestion is that I must define a method in VBScript in the webpage, and then call that method from Javascript. See jsdap for one example. var IE_HACK = (/msie/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && !/opera/i.test(navigator.userAgent)); if (IE_HACK) document.write('<script type="text/vbscript">\n\ Function BinaryToArray(Binary)\n\ Dim i\n\ ReDim byteArray(LenB(Binary))\n\ For i = 1 To LenB(Binary)\n\ byteArray(i-1) = AscB(MidB(Binary, i, 1))\n\ Next\n\ BinaryToArray = byteArray\n\ End Function\n\ </script>'); var xml = (window.XMLHttpRequest) ? new XMLHttpRequest() // Mozilla/Safari/IE7+ : (window.ActiveXObject) ? new ActiveXObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP") // IE6 : null; // Commodore 64? xml.open("GET", url, true); if (xml.overrideMimeType) { xml.overrideMimeType('text/plain; charset=x-user-defined'); } else { xml.setRequestHeader('Accept-Charset', 'x-user-defined'); } xml.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xml.readyState == 4) { if (!binary) { callback(xml.responseText); } else if (IE_HACK) { // call a VBScript method to copy every single byte callback(BinaryToArray(xml.responseBody).toArray()); } else { callback(getBuffer(xml.responseText)); } } }; xml.send(''); Is this really true? The best way? copying every byte? For a large binary stream that's not gonna be very efficient. There is also a possible technique using ADODB.Stream, which is a COM equivalent of a MemoryStream. See here for an example. It does not require VBScript but does require a separate COM object. if (typeof (ActiveXObject) != "undefined" && typeof (httpRequest.responseBody) != "undefined") { // Convert httpRequest.responseBody byte stream to shift_jis encoded string var stream = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Stream"); stream.Type = 1; // adTypeBinary stream.Open (); stream.Write (httpRequest.responseBody); stream.Position = 0; stream.Type = 1; // adTypeBinary; stream.Read.... /// ???? what here } I don't think that's gonna work - ADODB.Stream is disabled on most machines these days. In The IE8 developer tools - the IE equivalent of Firebug - I can see the responseBody is an array of bytes and I can even see the bytes themselves. The data is right there. I don't understand why I can't get to it. Is it possible for me to read it with responseText? hints? (other than defining a VBScript method)

  • heimdal kerberos in openldap issue

    - by Brian
I think I posted this on the wrong 'sister site', so here it is. I'm having a bit of trouble getting Kerberos (Heimdal version) to work nicely with OpenLDAP. • High CPU from httpd process

    - by KHWeb
I am currently getting high CPU on a server that is just running a couple of sites with very low traffic. One of the sites is in still development going live soon. However, this site is very very slow...When browsing through its pages I can see that the CPU goes from 30% to 100% for httpd (see top output below). I have tuned httpd & MySQL, Apache Solr, Tomcat for high performance, and I am using APC. Not sure what to do from here or how to find the culprit as I have a bunch of messages on the httpd log and have been chasing dead ends for some time...any help is greatly appreciated. • Linux partitioning problem

    - by Claudiu
I am using cfdisk to repartition my hdd as from OS install I only got 1 big partition a swap. I wanted to resize the big partition to 1 GB /boot and use the rest of the space for an extended partition. After I do cfdisk, I recheck the partitions with fdisk -l and I get these: Disk /dev/sda: 320 GB, 320070320640 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda3 1 38455 308881755 f Extended LBA Warning: Partition 3 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sda2 38455 38698 1951897 82 Linux swap /dev/sda1 * 38699 38913 311349654 83 Linux My problem is the Warning message, I think I know the cause, I think its because of sda1 Blocks size. How could that be soo big if Start and End interval is small?

  • Thinking Sphinx not working in test mode

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
I'm trying to get Thinking Sphinx to work in test mode in Rails. Basically this: ThinkingSphinx::Test.init ThinkingSphinx::Test.start freezes and never comes back. My test and devel configuration is the same for test and devel: dry_setting: &dry_setting adapter: mysql host: localhost encoding: utf8 username: rails password: blahblah development: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_devel socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it test: <<: *dry_setting database: proj_test socket: /tmp/mysql.sock # sphinx requires it and sphinx.yml development: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin test: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 bin_path: /opt/local/bin production: enable_star: 1 min_infix_len: 2 The generated config files, config/development.sphinx.conf and config/test.sphinx.conf only differ in database names, directories and similar things; nothing functional. • Linux - Only first virtual interface can ping external gateway

    - by husvar
I created 3 virtual interfaces with different mac addresses all linked to the same physical interface. I see that they successfully arp for the gw and they can ping (the request is coming in the packet capture in wireshark). However the ping utility does not count the responses. Does anyone knows the issue? • Beginners security question

    - by Reg H
Hi everyone, I'm still pretty new to web development, and have a question about security. Every day I look at the "Latest Visitors" in my CPanel, and today there were some strange entries (one is pasted below). Not knowing any better, it looks to me like there is some site that's referring users to my site, for some reason. Can someone explain what these really are, and if it's something to be concerned about? Thanks! Host: 77.68.38.175 /?p=http://teen-37.net/myid.jpg? • network timeout how to analyse problem

    - by elhombre
In the last three month I was experiencing that my internet connection started to get very slow and websites had long time to load. The first thing I made was an ping to www.google.com which showed that I was loosing pakets. Here some of the results: 64 bytes from 74.125.39.103: icmp_seq=2909 ttl=53 time=48.222 ms Request timeout for icmp_seq 2910 Request timeout for icmp_seq 2911 64 bytes from 74.125.39.103: icmp_seq=2912 ttl=53 time=44.372 ms Days later I had to reset my router because it wasn't able to establish a correct network connection. It was after the reset when things worked again for some days. But later the same network timeouts started to happen again. I would like to know how I can analyze the problem to get to the source which is causing this timeouts. Which steps do you take to circle in this Problem? • Jumbled byte array after using TcpClient and TcpListener

    - by Dylan
I want to use the TcpClient and TcpListener to send an mp3 file over a network. I implemented a solution of this using sockets, but there were some issues so I am investigating a new/better way to send a file. I create a byte array which looks like this: length_of_filename|filename|file This should then be transmitted using the above mentioned classes, yet on the server side the byte array I read is completely messed up and I'm not sure why. The method I use to send: public static void Send(String filePath) { try { IPEndPoint endPoint = new IPEndPoint(Settings.IpAddress, Settings.Port + 1); Byte[] fileData = File.ReadAllBytes(filePath); FileInfo fi = new FileInfo(filePath); List<byte> dataToSend = new List<byte>(); dataToSend.AddRange(BitConverter.GetBytes(Encoding.Unicode.GetByteCount(fi.Name))); // length of filename dataToSend.AddRange(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(fi.Name)); // filename dataToSend.AddRange(fileData); // file binary data using (TcpClient client = new TcpClient()) { client.Connect(Settings.IpAddress, Settings.Port + 1); // Get a client stream for reading and writing. using (NetworkStream stream = client.GetStream()) { // server is ready stream.Write(dataToSend.ToArray(), 0, dataToSend.ToArray().Length); } } } catch (ArgumentNullException e) { Debug.WriteLine(e); } catch (SocketException e) { Debug.WriteLine(e); } } } Then on the server side it looks as follows: private void Listen() { TcpListener server = null; try { // Setup the TcpListener Int32 port = Settings.Port + 1; IPAddress localAddr = IPAddress.Parse("127.0.0.1"); // TcpListener server = new TcpListener(port); server = new TcpListener(localAddr, port); // Start listening for client requests. server.Start(); // Buffer for reading data Byte[] bytes = new Byte[1024]; List<byte> data; // Enter the listening loop. while (true) { Debug.WriteLine("Waiting for a connection... "); string filePath = string.Empty; // Perform a blocking call to accept requests. // You could also user server.AcceptSocket() here. using (TcpClient client = server.AcceptTcpClient()) { Debug.WriteLine("Connected to client!"); data = new List<byte>(); // Get a stream object for reading and writing using (NetworkStream stream = client.GetStream()) { // Loop to receive all the data sent by the client. while ((stream.Read(bytes, 0, bytes.Length)) != 0) { data.AddRange(bytes); } } } int fileNameLength = BitConverter.ToInt32(data.ToArray(), 0); filePath = Encoding.Unicode.GetString(data.ToArray(), 4, fileNameLength); var binary = data.GetRange(4 + fileNameLength, data.Count - 4 - fileNameLength); Debug.WriteLine("File successfully downloaded!"); // write it to disk using (BinaryWriter writer = new BinaryWriter(File.Open(filePath, FileMode.Append))) { writer.Write(binary.ToArray(), 0, binary.Count); } } } catch (Exception ex) { Debug.WriteLine(ex); } finally { // Stop listening for new clients. server.Stop(); } } Can anyone see something that I am missing/doing wrong?

  • Can I alias all directory requests to a single file in nginx?

    - by user749618
    I'm trying to figure out how to take all requests made to a particular directory and return a json string without a redirect, in nginx. Example: curl -i http://example.com/api/call1/ Expected result: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Type: application/json Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2012 23:48:21 GMT Last-Modified: Fri, 13 Apr 2012 22:58:56 GMT Server: nginx X-UA-Compatible: IE=Edge,chrome=1 Content-Length: 38 Connection: keep-alive {"logout": true} Here's what I have so far in my nginx conf: location ~ ^/api/(.*)$ { index /api_logout.json; alias /path/to/file/api_logout.json; types { } default_type "application/json; charset=utf-8"; break; } However, when I try to make the request the Content-Type doesn't stick: $ curl -i http://example.com/api/call1/ HTTP/1.1 200 OK Accept-Ranges: bytes Content-Type: application/octet-stream Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2012 23:48:21 GMT Last-Modified: Fri, 13 Apr 2012 22:58:56 GMT Server: nginx X-UA-Compatible: IE=Edge,chrome=1 Content-Length: 38 Connection: keep-alive {"logout": true} Is there a better way to do this? How can I get the application/json type to stick?

  • IPv6 local address in hosts file

    - by Dan
I have set up a local domain on my Apache server. Then I added the following line in my /etc/hosts file ::1 exampledomain.local After I trying to navigate to it, (I tried Firefox and Chromium) I got a server not found error. Then I tried ping6 and it worked: dan@danny:~$ ping6 exampledomain.local PING exampledomain.local(exampledomain.local) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from exampledomain.local: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.032 ms If I replace ::1 with 127.0.0.1 in my hosts file, it works fine. I'm not sure if this is relevant but this is my Virtual Host configuration in Apache2: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAlias exampledomain.local DocumentRoot /home/dan/sites/exampledomain <Directory /home/dan/sites/exampledomain> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/exampledomain-error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. • CentOS - massive usage on loopback interface

    - by Matthew Iselin
Hi, I have a CentOS installation which is running fairly smoothly. Today I ran ifconfig mainly to see what sort of usage has been coming across the ethernet interface, and to also check my link speed. This is what I ended up seeing for the loopback device: lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:10301085132061223274 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:13981054163812689233 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:11783901785008000095 (0.6 EiB) TX bytes:10333501021200548281 (0.9 EiB) This just feels completely wrong - almost an EiB of data? Any assistance in tracking down the source of these statistics would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why do I see a large performance hit with DRBD?

    - by BHS
I see a much larger performance hit with DRBD than their user manual says I should get. I'm using DRBD 8.3.7 (Fedora 13 RPMs). I've setup a DRBD test and measured throughput of disk and network without DRBD: dd if=/dev/zero of=/data.tmp bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 4.62985 s, 116 MB/s / is a logical volume on the disk I'm testing with, mounted without DRBD iperf: [ 4] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.10 GBytes 941 Mbits/sec According to Throughput overhead expectations, the bottleneck would be whichever is slower, the network or the disk and DRBD should have an overhead of 3%. In my case network and I/O seem to be pretty evenly matched. It sounds like I should be able to get around 100 MB/s. So, with the raw drbd device, I get dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/drbd2 bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 6.61362 s, 81.2 MB/s which is slower than I would expect. Then, once I format the device with ext4, I get dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/data.tmp bs=512M count=1 oflag=direct 536870912 bytes (537 MB) copied, 9.60918 s, 55.9 MB/s This doesn't seem right. There must be some other factor playing into this that I'm not aware of. global_common.conf global { usage-count yes; } common { protocol C; } syncer { al-extents 1801; rate 33M; } data_mirror.res resource data_mirror { device /dev/drbd1; disk /dev/sdb1; meta-disk internal; on cluster1 { address 192.168.33.10:7789; } on cluster2 { address 192.168.33.12:7789; } } For the hardware I have two identical machines: 6 GB RAM Quad core AMD Phenom 3.2Ghz Motherboard SATA controller 7200 RPM 64MB cache 1TB WD drive The network is 1Gb connected via a switch. I know that a direct connection is recommended, but could it make this much of a difference? Edited I just tried monitoring the bandwidth used to try to see what's happening. I used ibmonitor and measured average bandwidth while I ran the dd test 10 times. I got: avg ~450Mbits writing to ext4 avg ~800Mbits writing to raw device It looks like with ext4, drbd is using about half the bandwidth it uses with the raw device so there's a bottleneck that is not the network.

  • How to run Django 1.3/1.4 on uWSGI on nginx on EC2 (Apache2 works)

    - by Tadeck
I am posting a question on behalf of my administrator. Basically he wants to set up Django app (made on Django 1.3, but will be moving to Django 1.4, so it should not really matter which one of these two will work, I hope) on WSGI on nginx, installed on Amazon EC2. The app runs correctly when Django's development server is used (with ./manage.py runserver 0.0.0.0:8080 for example), also Apache works correctly. The only problem is with nginx and it looks there is something else wrong with nginx / WSGI or Django configuration. His description is as follows: Server has been configured according to many tutorials, but unfortunately Nginx and uWSGI still do not work with application. ProjectName.py: import os, sys, wsgi os.environ.setdefault("DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE", "ProjectName.settings") from django.core.wsgi import get_wsgi_application application = get_wsgi_application() I run uWSGI by comand: uwsgi -x /etc/uwsgi/apps-enabled/projectname.xml XML file: <uwsgi> <chdir>/home/projectname</chdir> <pythonpath>/usr/local/lib/python2.7</pythonpath> <socket>127.0.0.1:8001</socket> <daemonize>/var/log/uwsgi/proJectname.log</daemonize> <processes>1</processes> <uid>33</uid> <gid>33</gid> <enable-threads/> <master/> <vacuum/> <harakiri>120</harakiri> <max-requests>5000</max-requests> <vhost/> </uwsgi> In logs from uWSGI: *** no app loaded. going in full dynamic mode *** In logs from Nginx: XXX.com [pid: XXX|app: -1|req: -1/1] XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX () {48 vars in 989 bytes} [Date] GET / => generated 46 bytes in 77 m secs (HTTP/1.1 500) 2 headers in 63 bytes (0 switches on core 0) added /usr/lib/python2.7/ to pythonpath. Traceback (most recent call last): File "./ProjectName.py", line 26, in <module> from django.core.wsgi import get_wsgi_application ImportError: No module named wsgi unable to load app SCRIPT_NAME=XXX.com| Example tutorials that were used: http://projects.unbit.it/uwsgi/wiki/RunOnNginx https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.4/howto/deployment/wsgi/ Do you have any idea what has been done incorrectly, or what should be done to make Django work on uWSGI on nginx on EC2?

  • 1Tb disk formatted on Linux won't mount on windows nor mac

    - by Pedro MC
I have an external HD (western digital) with 1Tb. I use Linux but I wanted to reserve a cross platform partition on the disk. I decided to create two partitions and used the "disks" application to do it. I created one partition with the LUKS (version 1) encryption and the other one, cross platform, in NTFS filesystem. Things work fine on my OS but when I try to use the disk (the cross platform partition) on both windows and mac the device is not recognized. What could it be? Next, output of "sfdisk -l /dev/sdb": Disk /dev/sdb: 121600 cylinders, 255 heads, 63 sectors/track Units = cylinders of 8225280 bytes, blocks of 1024 bytes, counting from 0 Device Boot Start End #cyls #blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 0+ 36473- 36473- 292968750 83 Linux /dev/sdb2 36473+ 121600- 85128- 683789062+ 83 Linux /dev/sdb3 0 - 0 0 0 Empty /dev/sdb4 0 - 0 0 0 Empty
