• Are there videocamera which geotag individual frames?

  I'm looking for a way to record live video with the specific requirement of having each frame georeferenced with GPS. Right now I'm using a normal video camera with a PDA+GPS that records the position, but it's difficult to sync both of these plus sometimes I've forgotten to turn the PDA+GPS or it has failed for some reason and all my video has been useless. Using google I found that about two years ago a company named Seero produced such video cameras and software, but apparently the domain doesn't exist any more and I only find references of other pages mentioning it. Does somebody know of any other product? I need to record this video in HD and have some way to export to Google Maps or other GIS software the positions of the frames in a way that I can click on the map and see what was being recorded in the video at that point. The precission of the GPS tracking is good enough as one position per second, intermediate frames of the video stream can be interpolated.

  I'm trying to convert a bunch of movies into h.264 mp4's using FFMPEG. These movies are sourced from various portable camcorders such as the Flip Mino HD and the Kodak ZI8. One issue I'm having with video from the ZI8 is it seems to be causing FFMPEG to segfault. Unfortunately during a trip to another timezone several cameras were used, one of which did not have the correct time zone set - meta data mess.. Now I would like to correct this. Proposed algorithm: 1 read file's modify date 2 add delta, i.e. hhmmss (preferred: change timezone) 3 write new timestamp Unless someone knows a tool or a combination of tools that do the trick directly, maybe one could simplify the calculation using epoch time (seconds since ..) and whip up a shell script. Any help appreciated!

• Convert color photos of documents to good black-and-white images?

  Since I don't have a copier or scanner, I'm using an 8 megapixel camera to copy documents. This works pretty well except they need a lot of processing afterward. I'd like to get from a photo to a bitmap, but using djpeg -grayscale -pnm photo.jpg | pgmtopbm -threshold -value XXX does not work so well, for two reasons: It's hard to guess what XXX should be, and XXX is different for different photos. Illumination varies, and sometimes a single threshold isn't what's right for the image. How can I do better? The ideal solution will be fully automatic command-line program that I can run on Linux. (I have already written a program to remove dark pixels from the edges of images.)

• Automatically detect faces in a picture

  At my work place, passport sized photographs are scanned together, then cut up into individual pictures and saved with unique file numbers. Currently we use Paint.net to manually select, cut and save the pictures. I have seen Sony's Cybershot Camera has face detection. Google also gives me something about iphoto when searching for face detection. Picasa has facedetection too. Are there any ways to autodetect the faces in a document, which would improve productivity at my workplace by reducing the time needed to cut up individual images. • Capturing a firewire video feed in Leopard on a G4

  Hi, I have a powerbook G4 that I loaded up with Leopard (OSX 10.5). I don't have iMovie, since the Leopard version requires an intel mac. I have a Sony Digital 8 Camcorder with firewire and usb output. The usb output requires a special driver on windows. I don't think OSX will support it. I wish to capture the video stream from the camera on my G4. VLC does not support firewire capture on OSX, I don't want to pay for QT professional. I'm looking for a solution. I'd prefer open source, but I'd consider freeware and inexpensive for pay options. On a related note, if it can capture still frames, I have a related question.

  Possible Duplicate: What is the easiest video editing program to use on Windows hi, i want to edit videos, i'm looking for a good, premiere like software. but it seems premiere it self is too much for me... frankly i can see how those settings can be helpful for any one.. but it doesn't matter. i've just imported an HD video from my new camera (CS4), first, it cut most of the video, and second, it actually made the quality worse... i've tried a few free, programs, but as soon as i've seen the GUI of those, i closed them... i really like premier, but i honestly don't understand who needs all this PAL/DV stuff... is there any similar application that intend to more intermediate users? tahnks.

• Artefacts during HDV capture

  When I try to capture HDV video stream from a Canon HV20 camera to a Dell Studio 1558 (Intel i7 720qm) laptop running Win 7 Home Premium x64, the image appears with a very annoying noise - it contains block artefacts. Something is wrong with the Fire Wire controller (Ricoh 1304 OHCI host controller, build-in). Tried changing the driver to legacy one to no avail. This does not happen with DV stream. I'm using a Belkin cable. The capture works OK on another machine.

• Webcam on Sony Vaio on Win 7 problem

  Anyone know where I can get a Win 7 32Bit driver for my Web Cam (Vaio VGN-CR11H/B) ? I changed operating system from Chinese Vista to English Win 7 Update: Windows 7 will not detect the cam, but I just read the Sony Europe site and it gives me some ideas to try. I can dual boot this Sony laptop: with Chinese Vista, the camera works but IE8 does not work. I cannot read Chinese to fix the Internet access issue, but I can get the computer online and Skype works. When I boot with the new Win 7, IE 8 works great, but the cam doesn't work (mic and speakers work). Very perplexing problem.

The PC is a Dell Optiplex 780. As far as I can tell USB devices do not charge unless Windows has installed an appropriate driver. Since it is a work computer I do not want to install iTunes which does include a driver. I have a workaround that I will post as an answer for reference.

  I have a network camera that is only able to give me an image, not a video stream. In my home network this image is at http://192.168.1.16/loginfree.jpg I'm able to get this image a few times per second. I would now like to be able to serve it up as a video stream so I can use it in zoneminder. Any idea as to how I do that? I've messed around with named pipes and ffmpeg's image2pipe, but I can't get it to work properly.

• How to prevent HP Photosmart Essential from launching on removal drive insertion

  My in-laws bought an HP computer loaded with HP junk, and it's giving me a headache. When they insert a camera memory card into their printer, the Auto-Play dialog comes up, but it also launches the HP Photosmart Essential application, which is a piece of trash. It will NOT launch properly just normally from the taskbar, so that makes it pretty useless. I tried uninstalling it, but then when you insert a memory card, a Microsoft Help window comes up saying how to reinstall HP Photosmart Essential!! Is there any way to find the registry key (I assume) that allows a program to be launched when a memory card is inserted?

• Can't change picture import settings in Windows 7

  I have foolishly set the picture import settings wrongly for when a camera card is put in my computer. It correctly asks me whether I would like to import the pictures using Windows picture import, and when I click on this option it flashes up the "import pictures" dialog very briefly, and then immediately gets on with importing the pictures to the wrong place. I simply want to click on the "import settings" link on the dialog - but it's too quick for me, and even if I do manage it it just ignores me. Windows Help, useful as ever, tells me to click on the link :) Any ideas? Thanks!

Picasa is pretty good for browsing through them and watching them, but it doesn't use my video card for rendering the videos. My CPU gets pegged at max usage, and full screen barely works. Windows Media Player or Quicktime works fine. Is there another application (like Picasa) that can be used for browsing through movies that both uses my video card and shows thumbnails of all the movies in my collection? I'd rather have something nicer than Windows Explorer. (The movies are h.264 AAC 1280x720.)

  I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit. This is my webcam. It is first time using this webcam in my pc. It's name is A4tech - PK-331F. When I plugged that webcam, windows start installing drivers automatically but unfortunately it installed wrong drivers. The drivers Windows 7 installed are Vimicro USB 2.0 PC Camera (Venus) and these drivers aren't related to this webcam. Now I did some modifications to windows so it isn't installing drivers automatically but whenever I plug that webcam but same name of drivers and doesn't install it. I think because of it, I can't install it's original drivers. I don't want Windows recognize this webcam with this name. How can I prevent Windows from doing this?.

After editing in Movie Maker, I save the movie. And no matter what option I chose, I always end up with .wmv file, that is either 4:3 image with black stripes above and below the video, or 16:9 with black frame all around the image. What settings should I use, to be able to export or save the video in 1280 x 720 without any black border?

• How can I force the Pictures app to refresh its library?

  I've imported some pictures to my "My Pictures" folder using Adobe Lightroom, but the Pictures app doesn't seem to notice the new files? Is there some way to force it to refresh its library? To be clear, Pictures are sorted under C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\ by year, then date; for example: C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\2012\2012-10-20, these show, however those in C:\Users\<username>\Pictures\2012\2012-10-29 do not, despite coming from the same camera, being in the same format, thumbnails working in Exporer, the pictures opening in the Pictures app via a double click in explorer, and Windows Media Centre having no problems. I have tried excluding the Pictures library, and reincluding it, but that had no effect. It has taken three or four reboots for even the folders to show up in the app, but it reports them as empty

• Dying SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo

  I have a Memory Stick Pro Duo and after attempting to delete the largest file from a Mac the stick has become unusable. I can almost access it. When I put it in my PC I can open/delete/copy/paste/rename/modify one file/folder, then it can't detect the card. If I reinsert the card I can move on to the next file, but this is really annoying and my PSP won't read it at all. The memory card access light will flash for a really long time before it says that every file is corrupted. When I have tried to format it with either the PC, PSP, or a camera that uses a memory stick pro duo, it fails. I've tried with all the different options on windows, I tried formatting it through CMD, but nothing I have tried works. Should I copy every file off one by one or is there a way to fix it?

• How can I copy files to an external drive and verify their integrity in OS X?

  I'm moving large amounts of data from one external drive to another larger one. The files are important and the smaller drives need to be cleared and reused (HD camera). Is there some utility for moving files and verifying their integrity? I've been using this command find . -type f -exec md5 '{}' \; > md5list.txt in the terminal to create a list of MD5s for each file then using diff to compare the two. However, I am moving 320GB at a time, which takes a while by itself. Computing the checksums takes another hour or so. It would be much more efficient to do this on the fly, during the copy. I'm just hoping someone has already written the software...

  I am using few USB hardwares like camera and scanners with my software application. I plugged my hardware in USB A installed the drivers and the device was working properly. Now I tried to connect the same hardware in USB B (ie, some other USB port), and again it is asking for the driver installation. I need to know the reason behind this.   Is there any software that can capture the screen and turn it into a webcam-type input so that you can easily record and/or broadcast your screen with regular video software? Edit: Just to be clear, I'd like to be able to use it live as an input to video conferencing software as well as for making recordings with video editing software. Bonus points if it allows me to capture a screen remote from the computer that is sending the video (for example by connecting to another computer with VNC). So it should show up as an input alongside any webcams I have installed, but instead of being a camera, it should be whatever is on the screen.

Film/TV Rate Standard While shooting in Protune, you have the option of recording video in cinema quality 24 fps to easily intercut GoPro content with other source media without the need to perform fps conversion. But at the same time their site says that Protune is for video only: To record Protune footage, you’ll need to turn Protune ON in your camera’s settings menu. What for is Protune? Photo? Video? Or both?
