  • How to change sample text in font installer

    I have several Japanese fonts but do not want to install them all. I would like to preview them before installing. In icon view I can get a very rough idea of the style of the font as it shows Aa. When I open the font I am presented with a dialog box which shows a sample of the font with the sentence The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. I would like to change this sample text to Japanese text to get a fuller preview of the font. Is it at all possible? I suspect I might have to edit and compile source, not something I'm very familiar with.

  • Saving a list of points into a text file

    I recently posted a question about this, but was not really sure where to go. I've gotten some progress, and have generated some simple noise here: http://pastie.org/5408655 That works well enough for me, but I would really like to be able to save the points into an ascii text file. currently it's formatted so that something like this: http://pastie.org/5409311 would create a square. I need to save in this format with the points(and lines connecting them) generated in the method above. Essentially, I need to write the array of points created in the first example to a text file formatted like the second example.

  • Does text size and placement on page have an effect on seo

    I was wandering seeing as Google and others keep trying to get more and more 'human' in terms of rating whats good and whats spam, is it known if they take into account the size of a heading ie. an thats font size is 40px is going to speak allot more to the user than a thats font size is 14px.. similarly does placement factor ? ie. a 300 word article at the bottom of a landing page (not in the footer but bellow the useful content) would just be there for seo purposes. i know they look at if your doing things like text-indent:-9999px; and white text on a white background, but what about these more border line practices that both have legitimate uses but also the possibility to be spammy

  • Looking for Remote Control that works with everything (even Windows 7 Media Center)

    Using my Google-Fu, it seems that the most basic of things one gets with any DVR is the remote control. Had I known it would be difficult just to get a consumer IR receiver for Windows 7 I may not have bothered to build an HTPC. But too late, I already have the HTPC ready to go (minus the CETON card...) So I'm moving away from TiVo, I hate paying the monthly fees and my box is ancient. I'm looking for these solutions to my HTCP setup...I want to: Switch audio from HDMI to SPDIF via the remote control (i.e., switch from TV to Receiver) (as a side note, the built-in audio on the mobo has software to do this). Pressing the volume button on the remote will always change the TV's volume (or the Receiver's if possible) and NOT the PC's volume. The remote/receiver works well around 25 feet. Bonus if the IR Receiver can work with my existing TiVo remote (or other remotes laying around the house) I read a review of the Bluetooth TiVo remote...it sounds promising...but I'm not sure if it is great for Windows 7 HTPC?

  • Text box select issue

    I have this issue where the entire text in text boxes is selected whilst I'm typing in it. For example, in FireFox search box I'd try to type "foo" but end up with "o" because I managed to type "fo" before everything was selected, and then typed "o" which replaced the "fo". When it happens, it is incessant - not just a one-off. But it doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't managed to figure out what causes it to start and stop. Is this a known problem with an easy solution? EDIT: this has nothing to do with touchpad. I get this occasionally even on a machine without one. I can usually rectify the issue just be alt-tabbing about a few times.

  • How Does EoR Design Work with Multi-tiered Data Center Topology

    I just did a ton of reading about the different multi-tier network topology options as outlined by Cisco, and now that I'm looking at the physical options (End of Row (EoR) vs Top of Rack(ToR)), I find myself confused about how these fit into the logical constructs. With ToR it also maps 1:1: at the top of each rack there is a switch(es) that essentially act as the access layer. They connect via fiber to other switches, maybe chassis-based, that act as the aggregation layer, that then connect to the core layer. With EoR it seems that the servers are connecting directly to the aggregation layer, skipping the access layer all together, by plugging directly into what are typically chassis switches. In EoR then is the standard 3-tier model now a 2-tier model: the servers go to the chassis switch which goes straight to the core switch? The reason it matters to me is that my understanding was that the 3-tier model was more desirable due to less complexity. The agg switch pair acts as default gateway and does routing; if you use up all of your ports in your agg layer pair it's much more complicated to add additional switches, than simply adding more switches at the access layer. Are there other downsides to this layout? Does this 3-tier architecture still apply in some way in EoR? Thanks.

    I have been looking in using OTRS - ITSM to manage all of our services but wanted to know if any software existed that is not built into a ticket system? Pretty much want to add all services and tie them to an SLA. Once that is done, we would manually declare incidents and the system would automatically send our notificaton to the proper e-mail lists for downtime/planned maintenance. Would be nice if it calculates reports for SLAs etc. thanks

  • Collaborative Whiteboard using WebSocket in GlassFish 4 - Text/JSON and Binary/ArrayBuffer Data Transfer (TOTD #189)

    This blog has published a few blogs on using JSR 356 Reference Implementation (Tyrus) as its integrated in GlassFish 4 promoted builds. TOTD #183: Getting Started with WebSocket in GlassFish TOTD #184: Logging WebSocket Frames using Chrome Developer Tools, Net-internals and Wireshark TOTD #185: Processing Text and Binary (Blob, ArrayBuffer, ArrayBufferView) Payload in WebSocket TOTD #186: Custom Text and Binary Payloads using WebSocket One of the typical usecase for WebSocket is online collaborative games. This Tip Of The Day (TOTD) explains a sample that can be used to build such games easily. The application is a collaborative whiteboard where different shapes can be drawn in multiple colors. The shapes drawn on one browser are automatically drawn on all other peer browsers that are connected to the same endpoint. The shape, color, and coordinates of the image are transfered using a JSON structure. A browser may opt-out of sharing the figures. Alternatively any browser can send a snapshot of their existing whiteboard to all other browsers. Take a look at this video to understand how the application work and the underlying code. The complete sample code can be downloaded here. The code behind the application is also explained below. The web page (index.jsp) has a HTML5 Canvas as shown: <canvas id="myCanvas" width="150" height="150" style="border:1px solid #000000;"></canvas> And some radio buttons to choose the color and shape. By default, the shape, color, and coordinates of any figure drawn on the canvas are put in a JSON structure and sent as a message to the WebSocket endpoint. The JSON structure looks like: { "shape": "square", "color": "#FF0000", "coords": { "x": 31.59999942779541, "y": 49.91999053955078 }} The endpoint definition looks like: @WebSocketEndpoint(value = "websocket",encoders = {FigureDecoderEncoder.class},decoders = {FigureDecoderEncoder.class})public class Whiteboard { As you can see, the endpoint has decoder and encoder registered that decodes JSON to a Figure (a POJO class) and vice versa respectively. The decode method looks like: public Figure decode(String string) throws DecodeException { try { JSONObject jsonObject = new JSONObject(string); return new Figure(jsonObject); } catch (JSONException ex) { throw new DecodeException("Error parsing JSON", ex.getMessage(), ex.fillInStackTrace()); }} And the encode method looks like: public String encode(Figure figure) throws EncodeException { return figure.getJson().toString();} FigureDecoderEncoder implements both decoder and encoder functionality but thats purely for convenience. But the recommended design pattern is to keep them in separate classes. In certain cases, you may even need only one of them. On the client-side, the Canvas is initialized as: var canvas = document.getElementById("myCanvas");var context = canvas.getContext("2d");canvas.addEventListener("click", defineImage, false); The defineImage method constructs the JSON structure as shown above and sends it to the endpoint using websocket.send(). An instant snapshot of the canvas is sent using binary transfer with WebSocket. The WebSocket is initialized as: var wsUri = "ws://localhost:8080/whiteboard/websocket";var websocket = new WebSocket(wsUri);websocket.binaryType = "arraybuffer"; The important part is to set the binaryType property of WebSocket to arraybuffer. This ensures that any binary transfers using WebSocket are done using ArrayBuffer as the default type seem to be blob. The actual binary data transfer is done using the following: var image = context.getImageData(0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height);var buffer = new ArrayBuffer(image.data.length);var bytes = new Uint8Array(buffer);for (var i=0; i<bytes.length; i++) { bytes[i] = image.data[i];}websocket.send(bytes); This comprehensive sample shows the following features of JSR 356 API: Annotation-driven endpoints Send/receive text and binary payload in WebSocket Encoders/decoders for custom text payload In addition, it also shows how images can be captured and drawn using HTML5 Canvas in a JSP. How could this be turned in to an online game ? Imagine drawing a Tic-tac-toe board on the canvas with two players playing and others watching. Then you can build access rights and controls within the application itself. Instead of sending a snapshot of the canvas on demand, a new peer joining the game could be automatically transferred the current state as well. Do you want to build this game ?   • Distorted text in programs

    I've installed Ubuntu 11 with gnome and in some point the text in the programs becomes unreadable like this. It's not only the text, but even the desktop background looks awful. I've tried to add section in xorg.conf, but it didn't helped out.   • How to remove text from file icons ?

    I am fairly new to Ubuntu (Linux). I noticed when creating a .java file or .py gives me an icon, however when I start writing code it overrides the thumbnail into showing text. Is there a way to disable this silly feature ? When I installed Linux Mint on the VM I noticed I was able to accomplish this task by unchecking "Show text in icon". I know they use Namo as their file manager. I read this thread and it did not work. How to stop Nautilus from creating thumbnails of specific file types?

    Basically I want to develop a Address lookup(part of my project) using C# (and I can use SQL if necessary). I have a very large text file which have all the UK address and postcodes. Addresses needs to be looked up from this text file. For example, as soon as a user type in the first letter of the postcode it should list all the postcodes starting with that letter and as they type in further, the list should narrow down. Could you guys please how I can do this search very fast and list the results in a efficient way. If you guys know any methods and technologies pls do advice.

  • Link two or more text boxes in Visio

    I am working on creating a template in Visio 2007 (Professional). Each page should reflect a document number and a revision number (two text boxes). I would like to make the template such that entering or changing text in one of these boxes on one page will automatically update the equivalent text boxes on all other pages. Is there an easy way to link two (or more) text boxes to show the same data (mirror each other)? I've looked into creating a ShapeData set and then using the ShapeData field in place of each box, but this will require training others to access and adjust the ShapeData field.     We currently have setting to sync time when spread is more than 5 mins, but it's getting to a point where some applications don't accept it. What is best practice out there to sync time for all windows and unix boxes to sync with time server or domain controller. Windows time service is not made for high accuracy less then 10 secs. What are alternatives ?

    Hello everybody, greetings from Mexico, sorry about my english but here it goes: I recently bought and apple tv 2nd generation it works just fine, i can see you tube videos but i cant see my library. My pc is conected to the same wi-fi than my apple tv. I have the latest software. I have my firewall off. I turned off and on my router. Search for iphone, ipad remotes on, sharing my library on my local network on, in itunes. Ive checked that my id was the same. On top of that the Remote app doesnt seem to work either. Please help, im kinda loosing my mind over this

    I know that some some text editors have problems to show long lines https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172099 . What is the best way to fix the bug or are they equally well? Modify the GTK+ source code and add a support for long lines. Modify the text editor source code such that it does not use GTK+ if it meets a long line. Split the long lines into part (maybe by cut on the Bash ) I'm just a junior programmer so I don't know what people does when they meet a bug that is on the library they use.
