  Given the XML <a> <c> <b id="1" value="noob"/> </c> <b id="2" value="tube"/> <a> <c> <b id="3" value="foo"/> </c> <b id="4" value="goo"/> <b id="5" value="noob"/> <a> <b id="6" value="near"/> <b id="7" value="bar"/> </a> </a> </a> and the Xpath 1.0 query //b[@id=2]/ancestor::a[1]//b[@value="noob"] is there some way to limit the result set to the <b> elements that are ONLY the children of the immediate <a> element of the start node (//b[@id=2])? For example the Xpath above returns both node ids 1 and 5. The goal is to limit the result to just node id=1 since it is the only @value="noob" element in the same <c> group as our start node (//b[@id=2]). In English, "Starting at a node whose id is equal to 2, find all the elements whose value is "noob" that are descendants of the immediate parent c element without passing through another c element".

• "Invalid use of Null" when using Str() with a Null Recordset field, but Str(Null) works fine

  I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. I was looking at some old database reporting code written in VB6 and case across this line (the code is moving data from a "source" database into a reporting database): rsTarget!VehYear = Trim(Str(rsSource!VehYear)) When rsSource!VehYear is Null, the above line generates an "Invalid use of Null" run-time error. If I break on the above line and type the following in the Immediate pane: ?rsSource!VehYear It outputs Null. Fine, that makes sense. Next, I try to reproduce the error: ?Str(rsSource!VehYear) I get an "Invalid use of Null" error. However, if I type the following into the Immediate window: ?Str(Null) I don't get an error. It simply outputs Null. If I repeat the same experiment with Trim() instead of Str(), everything works fine. ?Trim(rsSource!VehYear) returns Null, as does ?Trim(Null). No run-time errors. So, my question is, how can Str(rsSource!VehYear) possibly throw an "Invalid use of Null" error when Str(Null) does not, when I know that rsSource!VehYear is equal to Null?

• can I put my sqlite connection and cursor in a function?

  I was thinking I'd try to make my sqlite db connection a function instead of copy/pasting the ~6 lines needed to connect and execute a query all over the place. I'd like to make it versatile so I can use the same function for create/select/insert/etc... Below is what I have tried. The 'INSERT' and 'CREATE TABLE' queries are working, but if I do a 'SELECT' query, how can I work with the values it fetches outside of the function? Usually I'd like to print the values it fetches and also do other things with them. When I do it like below I get an error Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Users\steini\Desktop\py\database\test3.py", line 15, in <module> for row in connection('testdb45.db', "select * from users"): ProgrammingError: Cannot operate on a closed database. So I guess the connection needs to be open so I can get the values from the cursor, but I need to close it so the file isn't always locked.   I read many posts here and on other sites, but can not find the problem creating my Error: I use an AsyncTask because I want to easily manipulate the UI Thread before and after Execution. In doInBackground I create a ThreadPoolExecutor and execute Runnables.   I'm trying to modify and existing Access application to use MySQL as a database via ODBC with the minimal amount of recoding. The current code will often insert a new record using DAO then obtain the ID by using LastModified. This doesn't work with MySQL. Instead I'm trying to use the approach using SELECT * FROM tbl_name WHERE auto_col IS NULL Suggested for Access in the MySQL documentation. However if I set up a sample table consisting of just an id and text data field and execute this CurrentDb.Execute ("INSERT INTO tbl_scratch (DATA) VALUES ('X')") Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT id FROM tbl_scratch WHERE id IS NULL") myid = rst!id Id is returned as null. However if I execute INSERT INTO tbl_scratch (DATA) VALUES ('X'); SELECT id FROM tbl_scratch WHERE id IS NULL; using a direct MySQL editor then id is returned correctly, so my database and approach is fine but my implementation inside Access must be incorrect. Frustratingly the MySQL documentation gives the SQL statement to retrieve the id as an example that works in Access (as it states LAST_INSERT_ID() doesn't) but gives no further details. How might I fix this?

When I run my function in oracle sql developer everything is ok; the function creates the temp table without errors. • Error in django using Apache & mod_wsgi

  Hey, I've been doing some changes to my django develpment env, as some of you suggested. So far I've managed to configure and run it successfully with postgres. Now I'm trying to run the app using apache2 and mod_wsgi, but I ran into this little problem after I followed the guidelines from the django docs. • Stopping process in /etc/inittab kills spawned process. Doesn't happen in rc.local.

  Hi, I'm trying to execute a firmware upgrade while my programming is running in inittab. My program will run 2 commands. One to extract the installer script from the tarball and the other to execute the installer script. In my code I'm using the system() function call. These are the 2 command strings below, system ( "tar zvxf tarball.tar.gz -C / installer.sh 2>&1" ); system( "nohup installer.sh tarball >/dev/null 2>&1 &" ); The installer script requires the tarball to be an argument. I've tried using sudo but i still have the same problem. I've tried nohup with no success. The installer script has to kill my program when doing the firmware upgrade but the installer script will stay alive. If my program is run from the command line or rc.local, on my target device, my upgrade works fine, i.e. when my program is killed my installer script continues. But I need to run my program from /etc/inittab so it can respawn if it dies. To stop my program in inittab the installer script will hash it out and execute "telinit q". This is where my program dies (but thats what I want it to do), but it also kills my installer script. Does anyone know why this is happening and what can I do to solve it? Thanks in advance.

  I am trying to select columns by their "x" position in the table. DBI my $example = $hookup->prepare(qq{SELECT This,That,Condition,"I also want COLUMN-10" FROM tbl LIMIT ? ?}); ###column_number=10 ordinal_position?? $example->execute('2','10') or die "Did not execute"; Is this possible or do I need to run another single select to just that column? One problem I encountered was with a col named "Condition". For some reason, when I tried to select Condition the execute would die. I never attempted but, What if the column name was SELECT? Another note is the table is 75 cols wide and I only need 50 of them. The Col names are pretty verbose so, I would like to just call them by their "position". This would also allow the col names to be changed in the future without having to change the select statement. I am quite the newbie so please explain any answers down to my level. • Using input type="submit" to change content

  Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm missing something very obvious here, but I just couldn't find a proper solution so far. What I'm trying to do is simple: Have a user write something into a form, have him submit the form, and write that input into a textarea on the same page. This is my code: <html><head></head> <body> <form name='registration'> <label for="input">Input:</label> <input type="text" id="input"/> <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" onclick="execute()"/> </form> <div id="results"> <span>Result</span> <span><textarea cols="30" rows="5" id="resulttext" readonly="readonly"></textarea> </span> </div> <script> function execute() { var result = document.getElementById("input").value document.getElementById("resulttext").value=result; } </script> </body> </html> Now what happens if I enter something into the form is that the textarea briefly shows my input before reverting back to showing nothing. My guess is that the textarea field is only changed for the duration of the execute() function. When I change input type="submit" to a <button> everything works as intended, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to do that.

  I might be losing the plot, but I hope someone can point me in the right direction. What am I trying to do? I'm trying to write some base methods which take Func< and Action so that these methods handle all of the exception handling etc. so its not repeated all over the place but allow the derived classes to specify what actions it wants to execute. So far this is the base class. public abstract class ServiceBase<T> { protected T Settings { get; set; } protected ServiceBase(T setting) { Settings = setting; } public void ExecAction(Action action) { try { action(); } catch (Exception exception) { throw new Exception(exception.Message); } } public TResult ExecFunc<T1, T2, T3, TResult>(Func<T1, T2, T3, TResult> function) { try { /* what goes here?! */ } catch (Exception exception) { throw new Exception(exception.Message); } } } I want to execute an Action in the following way in the derived class (this seems to work): public void Delete(string application, string key) { ExecAction(() => Settings.Delete(application, key)); } And I want to execute a Func in a similar way in the derived class but for the life of me I can't seem to workout what to put in the base class. I want to be able to call it in the following way (if possible): public object Get(string application, string key, int? expiration) { return ExecFunc(() => Settings.Get(application, key, expiration)); } Am I thinking too crazy or is this possible? • PHP shell_exec() - Run directly, or perform a cron (bash/php) and include MySQL layer?

  Sorry if the title is vague - I wasn't quite sure how to word it! What I'm Doing I'm running a Linux command to output data into a variable, parse the data, and output it as an array. Array values will be displayed on a page using PHP, and this PHP page output is requested via AJAX every 10 seconds so, in effect, the data will be retrieved and displayed/updated every 10 seconds. There could be as many as 10,000 characters being parsed on every request, although this is usually much lower. Alternative Idea I want to know if there is a better* alternative method of retrieving this data every 10 seconds, as multiple users (<10) will be having this command executed automatically for them. A cronjob running on the server could execute either bash or php (which is faster?) to grab the data and store it in a MySQL database. Then, any AJAX calls to the PHP output would return values in the MySQL database rather than making a direct call to execute server code every 10 seconds. Why? I know there are security concerns with running execs directly from PHP, and (I hope this isn't micro-optimisation) I'm worried about CPU usage on the server. The server is running a sempron processor. Yes, they do still exist. Having this only execute when the user is on the page (idea #1) means that the server isn't running code that doesn't need to be run. However, is this slow and insecure? Just in case the type of linux command may be of assistance in determining it's efficiency: shell_exec("transmission-remote $host:$port --auth $username:$password -l"); I'm hoping that there are differences in efficiency and level of security with the two methods I have outlined above, and that this isn't just micro-micro-optimisation. If there are alternative methods that are better*, I'd love to learn about these! :)

  I've got a function written that runs a query based on parameters passed to the function. I can't seem to figure out why doing the following returns a result: function test($function_returned_array) { $variable = 'Hello World'; $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $variable); } While this doesn't return any results: function test2($function_returned_array) { $sql = 'SELECT `name`, `pid` FROM `products` WHERE `name` IN (?)'; $found = $this->db->get_array($sql, $function_returned_array[0]); } $function_returned_array[0] is also equal to 'Hello World'. Shouldn't they both return the same results? • Simple javascript/jquery append, remove question

  Hey guys, quick question. I have a div that on click will execute a jquery function onclick, and then replace the div with its opposite div which onclick will replace back to the first div just like the favorite function on this site. I am having a simple problem I hope someone can spot or explain to me it is not possible. The function works with the initial two divs that are served directly, but when I click on either of the original two divs, and the function executes and replaces the div with the corresponding div the replacement div does not execute the function. I have to refresh the page to get the original div, which is identical to execute the function. Is the div actually replaced on the page with append, or does it just visually show it? • Sonicwall VPN, Domain Controller Issues

  I am trying to get the domain logon script to execute when I connect to VPN. I have a SonicWall 4060PRO, with the SonicOS Enhanced 4.2.0.0-10e. The VPN connects successfully, but the script does not execute. I am posting the log below, but I see two issues. I assume the second issue is caused because of the first, also on the second issue it seems to be trying to get the logon script from my local PC, not the server.   I'm getting this error with IIS 6.0 (i assume), and PHP 5.2.3, and FastCGI FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: Error Number: 5 (0x80070005). Error Description: Access is denied. HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS) Any ideas, nothing revealings in logs (other than 500 errors), this is pretty much all of I have to work with. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP.   Using Ubuntu server, I need to create some user accounts that have the following limitations: (1) User may only view and manipulate files in their home directory. (2) User may only execute commands related to rsync and sftp. I want users to be able to backup files using rsync, and I want them to be able retrieve files using an sftp client like FileZilla. Other than this, I don't want users to be able to view other files on the system, or execute any commands that might mess with the system. I'm more of an Ubuntu Desktop user, and have very little experience administering a linux server. Most tutorials I've found assume I know things that I don't know. So I'm having difficulty setting this up.

  When I run Java from a Windows .cmd file (Vista 32-bit here), the Java command causes the batch file to stop executing additional commands. For example, this is a simple test.cmd file: java java This should cause Java to print its help message twice. However when I run it in cmd.exe, I get this: C:\>test C:\>java Usage: java [-options] class [args...] (to execute a class) or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...] (to execute a jar file) where options include: -client to select the "client" VM -server to select the "server" VM ... C:\> The batch file simply exits when Java exits. What's going on here?

  I have two Apache instances setup in my server (Solaris 10): Instance 1: /etc/apache2 Instance 2: /etc/apache2-instance2 To start the instance 1, I execute the following command: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf And instance 2: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -f /etc/apache2-instance2/httpd.conf Both instances run perfectly, however the problem comes when I want to stop the instances. I have not been able to find a parameter to indicate what instance I want to stop. if I execute this command: /usr/apache2/bin/apachectl -k stop It will stop always the Instance 1 (the default one). The only solution that I could find to stop the instance 2 was to do this: kill -TERM 'cat /var/run/apache2-instance2/httpd.pid' Is this the only way to do it? or what is the best solution? I remember that I did something similar in Ubuntu setting a the global variable APACHE_CONFDIR before calling apachectl

  I am having permission problems on my server. I use user developer to pull my git repository on the server. Then apache uses its own apache user to do write and execute code. I always have the problems when the app wants to write something in the directory (i.e: log files, and cache ...) if I execute a cron job and it uses my developer rights and wants to add something to the folders that is written by apache. My question is how to have my developer have the same write/delete access as my apache and avoid permission conflicts with each other? I am not fluent on linux command so, it would help if you could provide links or simply examples of doing so. thanks.

  I am trying to enforce maximum memory a program can consume on a Unix system. I thought ulimit -v should do the trick. Ideally it should not happen as my Java program is only taking around 128MB of memory which is well within my specified ulimit parameters. If I change the arguments to my Java program as below: java -Xmx256m EatMem The program again works fine. While trying to give more memory than limited by ulimit like : java -Xmx800m EatMem results in expected error. Why the program fails to execute in the first case after setting ulimit ? I have tried the above test on Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.0.4 with Java 1.6 and Java 7
