  • What damage is done by document.write()?

    - by Simon Gibbs
What bad things happen at the moment document.write() is invoked? I've heard bits and peices about document.write having an adverse impact on the DOM or on the use of Javascript libraries. I have an issue in front of me that I suspect is related, but have not been able to find a concise summary of what damage the method does.

  • Any other kinds of "Task Queue" APIs ?

    - by sork
I'm curious if it's common practice outside of the GAE platform to be able to defer tasks to background workers via webhooks. I find it particularly useful to speed up the front-end of webapps, by delegating any long process to background tasks. I'd like to hear about open source software allowing to implement a TaskQueue-like API, with webhooks preferably, if anyone has some experience in this area. Thanks!

  • How can I use non-Silverlight assemblies in a Silverlight app?

    - by norbertB
I'm working an project (pure hobby, "Sharping my skills") which has one unified back-end and multiple front-ends (ASP.NET MVC 1.0/JQuery and Silverlight 2). When I try to add reference to my business layer assembly in the Silverlight 2 project (VS2008); It gets rejected, because it's not a Silverlight assembly. Is their a way to include and reference a non-Silverlight assembly in a Silverlight app?

    - by Nitesh Panchal
Hello, Which query to write in JPQL for backing up database on disk? If in JPQL it's not available even native sql query will do. Also, i would like to bring one issue in front of stackoverflow developers :- This site doesn't properly work in Opera (Opera 9.63). Whenever i write question and click "Post Your question" The button click event doesn't fire at all, may be, the server side event doesn't fire or something. However, no such problem comes in IE and firefox.

  • ColdFusion MVC frameworks & RESTful Service mismatch?

    - by Henry
Most CF MVC Frameworks use the front controller pattern. Usually Search Engine Safe (SES) plugin together with URL Rewrite are used to construct friendly URLs. However, when it comes to implementing RESTful services, using a MVC framework seems like a layer of complexity added on top of another layer of complexity. How should one tame this beast? Any nice and clean approach of supporting RESTful services with ColdFusion? Any MVC framework out there that can expose RESTful services easily? Thanks

  • Recommended Clang command line options

    - by frou
The Manual for Clang seems to be work in progress, so could you help me formulate the definitive command line options for compiling ANSI-C (AKA C89, C90) with maximum strictness and relevant/helpful warnings? Clang is a compiler front end for the C, C++, and Objective-C programming languages. It uses the Low Level Virtual Machine (LLVM) as its back end. It is still under development. Its goal is to offer a replacement to the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC)

  • Does MS Access 2010 have Tif image control display issue?

    - by ChuckB
We run MS Access as the front end for most of our business. When we upgraded from Access 2000 to Access 2003 the image control we used to print out Tif images failed to load Tifs anymore. A bit of Googling showed that MS did this intentionally and I'm wondering if the problem still happens in Access 2010. Can someone with a downloaded copy drop an image control on an Access 2010 form or report and try to get it to display a Tif file?

  • stringstream problem - vector iterator not dereferencable

    - by andreas
    Hello I've got a problem with the following code snippet. It is related to the stringstream "stringstream css(cv.back())" bit. If it is commented out the program will run ok. It is really weird, as I keep getting it in some of my programs, but if I just create a console project the code will run fine. In some of my Win32 programs it will and in some it won't (then it will return "vector iterator not dereferencable" but it will compile just fine). Any ideas at all would be really appreciated. Thanks! vector<double> cRes(2); vector<double> pRes(2); int readTimeVects2(vector<double> &cRes, vector<double> &pRes){ string segments; vector<string> cv, pv, chv, phv; ifstream cin("cm.txt"); ifstream pin("pw.txt"); ifstream chin("hm.txt"); ifstream phin("hw.txt"); while (getline(cin,segments,'\t')) { cv.push_back(segments); } while (getline(pin,segments,'\t')) { pv.push_back(segments); } while (getline(chin,segments,'\t')) { chv.push_back(segments); } while (getline(phin,segments,'\t')) { phv.push_back(segments); } cin.close(); pin.close(); chin.close(); phin.close(); stringstream phss(phv.front()); phss >> pRes[0]; phss.clear(); stringstream chss(chv.front()); chss >> cRes[0]; chss.clear(); stringstream pss(pv.back()); pss >> pRes[1]; pss.clear(); stringstream css(cv.back()); css >> cRes[1]; css.clear(); return 0; }

  • URL routing documentation question.

    - by James Evans
I'm reading about URL routing at How to: Define Routes for Web Forms Applications and there's something in the example I don't understand. If you look at the example provided below, routes.MapPageRoute("", "SalesReport/{locale}/{year}/{*queryvalues}", "~/sales.aspx"); specifically at "SalesReport/{locale}/{year}/{*queryvalues}" Why does queryvalues have an asterisk in front of it and locale and year don't?

  • Flex project architecture ?

    - by Tony
What's the best way to organize functionality modules in a flex project? I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?

  • Best practice for DAO pattern ?

    - by Tony
I've seen a lot of codes use a service-dao pattern , I don't know the origin of this pattern . It force the front layer call service , then delegates some of the service task to dao. I want to ask : Does DAO layer do purely data access related task ? What about exception encapsulation ? Is there other pattern can be used to replace this ?
