  • Pass Arguments to Included Module in Ruby?

    I'm hoping to implement something like all of the great plugins out there for ruby, so that you can do this: acts_as_commentable has_attached_file :avatar But I have one constraint: That helper method can only include a module; it can't define any variables or methods. The reason for this is because, I want the options hash to define something like type, and that could be converted into one of say 20 different 'workhorse' modules, all of which I could sum up in a line like this: def dynamic_method(options = {}) include ("My::Helpers::#{options[:type].to_s.camelize}").constantize(options) end Then those 'workhorses' would handle the options, doing things like: has_many "#{options[:something]}" Here's what the structure looks like, and I'm wondering if you know the missing piece in the puzzle: # 1 - The workhorse, encapsuling all dynamic variables module My::Module def self.included(base) base.extend ClassMethods base.class_eval do include InstanceMethods end end module InstanceMethods self.instance_eval %Q? def #{options[:my_method]} "world!" end ? end module ClassMethods end end # 2 - all this does is define that helper method module HelperModule def self.included(base) base.extend(ClassMethods) end module ClassMethods def dynamic_method(options = {}) # don't know how to get options through! include My::Module(options) end end end # 3 - send it to active_record ActiveRecord::Base.send(:include, HelperModule) # 4 - what it looks like class TestClass < ActiveRecord::Base dynamic_method :my_method => "hello" end puts TestClass.new.hello #=> "world!" That %Q? I'm not totally sure how to use, but I'm basically just wanting to somehow be able to pass the options hash from that helper method into the workhorse module. Is that possible? That way, the workhorse module could define all sorts of functionality, but I could name the variables whatever I wanted at runtime.

  • How to set up multiple GPUs (12.04)?

    I have two GPUs: one Intel i915 integrated, and one NVIDIA 560 Ti. This is NOT a hybrid setup, nor a laptop. In Windows 7, each card is connected to a different monitor, with the NVIDIA doing any "heavy lifting". For the life of me I cannot get Ubuntu to recognize the i915, but when logging off or rebooting, the shutdown actually appears on the i915. lshw lists both. I'm running the "current" NVIDIA drivers (not the experimental), but Displays calls its monitor a "Laptop". Is this even possible under Ubuntu? The only things that even looked like potential solutions were for laptop hybrid setups and used Bumblebee, but that doesn't seem to apply here.

  • Given an array of arguments, how do I send those arguments to a particular function in Ruby?

    Forgive the beginner question, but say I have an array: a = [1,2,3] And a function somewhere; let's say it's an instance function: class Ilike def turtles(*args) puts args.inspect end end How do I invoke Ilike.turtles with a as if I were calling (Ilike.new).turtles(1,2,3). I'm familiar with send, but this doesn't seem to translate an array into an argument list. A parallel of what I'm looking for is the Javascript apply, which is equivalent to call but converts the array into an argument list.

    So I have created a video website which has thousands of videos and thousands of videos get added to it on a daily basis. Here is my problem :- I have created a website which basically loads the skeleton in html and puts all the content through javascript and Ajax. The problem is search engines aren't going anywhere except for the home page. Is there a way say in robots.txt where i give a link to a single html which has links to all these videos ? I agree my site is not accessible for a non-javascript user but stats show that this ratio is very low ( 0.2 % ). Is there a way I can still keep the complete AJAX website and still get each individual videos listed on google ?

  • Best way to set up servers for .NET performance [migrated]

    Assume we have 3 physical servers and let's say we are only interested in performance, and not reliability. Is it better to give each server a specific function or make them all duplicates and split the traffic between them? In other words dedicate 1 as DB server, 1 as web server, and 1 as reporting server/data warehouse, or better to put all three services on each server and use them as web farm?

    I'm trying to figure out how to instantiate a case class object with reflection. Is there any support for this? The closest I've come is looking at scala.reflect.Invocation, but this seems more for executing methods that are a part of an object. case class MyClass(id:Long, name:String) def instantiate[T](className:String)(args:Any*) : T = { //your code here } Is close to the API I'm looking for.     While solving the problems on Techgig.com, I got struck with one one of the problem. The problem is like this: A company organizes two trips for their employees in a year. They want to know whether all the employees can be sent on the trip or not. The condition is like, no employee can go on both the trips. Also to determine which employee can go together the constraint is that the employees who have worked together in past won't be in the same group. Examples of the problems: Suppose the work history is given as follows: {(1,2),(2,3),(3,4)}; then it is possible to accommodate all the four employees in two trips (one trip consisting of employees 1& 3 and other having employees 2 & 4). Neither of the two employees in the same trip have worked together in past. Suppose the work history is given as {(1,2),(1,3),(2,3)} then there is no way possible to have two trips satisfying the company rule and accommodating all the employees. Can anyone tell me how to proceed on this problem?

    Basically i want to keep the transaction very simple but i should be able to rollback if any error in the later part. Something like mentioned below, BEGIN TRANSACTION DELETE SET 1(this will delete first set of table) COMMIT DELETE SET 2 (will delete second set of table) If any error occurs while deleting set 2 i should be able to rollback set 1 transaction as well.Let me know if we have any options to do like this.   • In-memory DB to perform intersects on set slices

    I have a specific programming need where I need to efficiently store large sorted sets in memory, query them for ranges, and intersect them against other sets that are also queried for ranged. I am looking at Redis, but I can't see a range slice command. MongoDB can only use 1 index, so it has to perform row-level scans, whereas I wish to process using columns that are intersected. I'm also looking at Counchbase, but can't easily determine from the documentation if it is suited to this. I know it uses Memcached, which is AFAIK not suited to this usage. Could anyone share potential solutions for this specific problem? EDIT For example, I need to perform the following: Get the IDs of all cars where the price is between 2000 and 3000, and intersect that will all cars where the engine capacity is between 3000 and 4000.
