• SQL - suppressing duplicate *adjacent* records

  I need to run a Select statement (DB2 SQL) that does not pull adjacent row duplicates based on a certain field. In specific, I am trying to find out when data changes, which is made difficult because it might change back to its original value. That is to say, I have a table that vaguely resembles: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 12, Mar A, 12, Apr A, 9, May A, 9, Jun A, 5, Jul And I want to get the results: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 9, May A, 5, Jul discarding adjacent duplicates but keeping the last row. The obvious: Select Letter, Number, Min(Month) from Table group by Letter, Number does not work -- it doesn't include the last row.

• PHP Framework Benefits / Downfalls

  I have been a PHP developer for about 10 years now and until about a month ago I have never used a framework. The framework I am now using due to an existing codebase is cakePHP 1.2 I can see certain benefits of the frameworks with the basic helpers like default layouts. I can deffinately seen the benefits of MVC keeping the logic sperate etc. But the query building just seems to be bloated. Is this expected? Am I likely to be able to build better queries than the framework could build? I just feel I could get my apps running better without a framework. What are your thoughts?

• jQuery image fade not working for unknown reason...?

  Just when I thought I was done for the night, another issue is keeping me awake. It appears that somehow I have broken the fade I was using on my thumbnails. If you go here: http://ftframes.com/milad2/ When you hover your mouse of the thumbnails, it should fade up. To give you an idea, this is a working version of the script: http://nothingcantouchme.com/stackoverflow.php#download_page As you can see, the hover works fine with the fade. And please mind the mess on this one, I just added it to demonstrate. Is there anyone that can kindly assist me in solving this issue? I would lie if I told you that I wasn't completely lost.

  Hello!, I know how to compile C and C++ Source files using GCC and CC in the terminal, however i would like to know if its safe to include passwords in these files, once compiled. For example.. i check user input for a certain password e.g 123, but it appears compiled C/C++ programs is possible to be decompiled. Is there anyway to compile a C/C++ source file, while keeping the source completely hidden.. If not, could anyone provide a small example of encrypting the input, then checking against the password e.g: (SHA1, MD5)

• How do I get a remote tracking branch to stay up to date with remote origin in a bare Git repository?

  I am trying to maintain a bare copy of a Git repository and having some issues keeping the remote tracking branches up to date. I create the remote tracking branches like this: git branch -t 0.1 origin/0.1 This seems to do what I need to do for that point in time. However, if I make changes to origin and then fetch with the bare repo, things start to fall apart. My workflow looks like this: git fetch origin It looks like all of the commits come in at that point, but my local copy of 0.1 is not being updated. I can see that the changes have been brought into the repository by doing the following: git diff 0.1 refs/remotes/origin/0.1 What do I need to do to get my tracking branch updated with the remote's updates? I feel like I must be missing a step or a flag somewhere.

• Is it really wrong to version documents using CouchDB's behaviour?

  This is one of those "I know I shouldn't do this but it's oh so convenient." questions. Sorry about that. I plan to use CouchDB for storing a bunch of documents and keeping their entire revision history. CouchDB does the versioning automatically, but it is strongly discouraged for programmer's use: "You cannot rely on document revisions for any other purpose than concurrency control." From what I've found on the CouchDB wiki, the versions can get deleted either during compaction or during replication. As far as I can tell, Compaction must always be triggered manually and Replication occurs only when there's more than one database server. The question is: if I won't run compaction and will use only single database instance for my documents, can I just use CouchDB's document versioning and expect it to work? What other problems I might run into? E.g. does not running compaction hurt the performance or consume significantly more disk space (than if I did handle the versioning manually)?

• What's the best way to handle web.config file versions in ASP.Net?

  I have an ASP.Net web site (ASPX and ASMX pages) with a single web.config file. We have a development version and a production version. Over time, the web.config files for development and production have diverged substantially. What is the best practice for keeping both versions of web.config in source control (we use Tortoise SVN but I don't think that matters)? It seems like I could add the production web.config file with a name like "web.config.prod", and then when we turnover all the files we would just add the step of deleting the existing web.config and renaming web.config.prod to web.config. This seems hackish, although I'm sure it would work. Is there not some mechanism for dealing with this built in to Visual Studio? It seems like this would be a common issue, but I haven't found any questions (with answers) about this.

  I've got addresses I need to clean up for matching purposes. Part of the process is trimming unwanted suffices from housenumbers, e.g: mainstreet 4a --> mainstreet 4. However I don't want: 618 5th Ave SW --> 618 5 Ave SW in other words there are some strings (for now: st, nd, rd, th) which I don't want to strip. What would be the best method of doing this (regex or otherwise) ? a wokring regex without the exceptions would be: a = a.replaceAll("(^| )([0-9]+)[a-z]+($| )","$1$2$3"); //replace 1a --> 1 I thought about first searching and substiting the special cases with special characters while keeping the references in a map, then do the above regex, and then doing the reverse substitute using the reference map, but I'm looking for a simpler solution.   what i need is a server that listens to 5060 port , when the client sends data to that port the server should open up another port ( any port after 1250 i believe ) and forward the clients data to that port keeping 5060 idle so it can perform the same function for the next client so basically i need the server to a) open up multiple ports one for each client b) get the voice data from the client and be able to send voice data to that client i m looking into the hardware specs and other such details of the scenario so i dont have time to make such a program myself if theres a code that i can run directly ( both server and client side ) on visual studio .net 2010 that will perform these tasks then that would be extremely helpful thanks alot in advance

• Store previous search criteria using ASP.NET

  I have created a web application which returns a list of products. On this page it allows users to search for a range of different search criteria. Once a user searches and the results are returned to the table on the page a user can then edit a product. However upon returning to the product listing page the page just reloads, and shows all products again. I would like to know what the best way would be to keep the search results, and upon returning to the search page it keeps the previous criteria. I have found a few posts on stack exchange - Best way to store previous search criteria in ASP.NET - is probaly one of the better ones. Does any one know how i could go about keeping the search criteria, so when a user returns to the search page, the previous search criteria and results stay the same. Many thanks.

• Reading and writing dates to the registry for trial version purposes.

  Hi all, Here's what I want to do, I want to store the date the first time the program is installed and also store a date when was the program was last run. I want the code to check to see if it was more than 30 days since the installation so I can turn off features. I also want to check if the system date is less than the last opened date and if so write the installed date to 1/1/1901 to prevent the program from running. Keeping in mind that this is not a consumer program but a business program I don't expect hackers to crack it, they may do but that is fine I simply want to give potential customers a reason to consider purchasing the program and the end of the trial will prompt this. 1: Does this sound reasonable? 2: How should I hide the fact this is a date so it's not easily changed? • Advantage to parsing Excel Spreadsheet data vs. CSV?

  I have tabulated data in an Excel spreadsheet (file size will likely never be larger than 1 mb). I want to use PHP to parse the data and insert in to a MySQL database. Is there any advantage to keeping the file as an .xls/.xlsx and parsing it using a PHP Excel Parsing Library? If so, what are some good libraries to use? Obviuously, I can save the .xls/.xlsx as a CSV and handle the file that way. Thanks!

  Recently, I have encountered many difficulties when I was developing using C++ and Lua. My situation is: for some reason, there can be thousands of Lua-states in my C++ program. But these states should be same just after initialization. Of course, I can do luaL_loadlibs() and lua_loadfile() for each state, but that is pretty heavy(in fact, it takes a rather long time for me even just initial one state). So, I am wondering the following schema: What about keeping a separate Lua-state(the only state that has to be initialized) which is then cloned for other Lua-states, is that possible?

  In our project files, if there are binary files, such as .doc, .xls, .jpg, and we choose to not keep their past revisions (just keeping a latest version is ok), is there a way to tell SVN, Git, or Mercurial or some other tool to skip the revisions for these files or for a particular folder? Say, there is a 4MB .doc file that I need to check in hundred of times, but I don't really care so much about its past versions. So if the system keeps 100 revisions of it, that's already 400MB... checking in 300 times means 1.2GB for 1 file and that's not good. Only the latest version is good so that everybody can sync to it.

• Can I store and join based on external attributes in Lucene/Solr

  Is there a way to store information about documents that are stored in Lucene such that I don't have to update the entire document to update certain attributes about the documents? For instance, let's say I had a bunch of documents, and that I wanted to update a permissions list of who was allowed to see the documents on a daily, or more frequent, basis. Would it be possible to update all the permissions each day, without updating all the documents. I could do it by keeping a exactly which permissions were added and removed, but I would rather just be able to take the end list of permissions, and use that, rather than have to keep track of all the permission changes and post those entire documents to Lucene.

  I am looking for a free alternative to TS. What would be the best alternative stack(source control, bug tracking, project management/planning, wiki, automated builds (ci))? Keeping in mind that it would be nice if they all integrated well. For example, it would be nice to be able to link bugs to source control, and then be able to link to a project plan and then be able to automate building. I do not have issues with using Microsoft project to manage project planing.
