  • Prototype 'on show' Event.observe handler

    I am trying to make an AJAX request that updates a div's content when that div is shown. My initial thought was to use an Event observer that watched for a div to be shown, but I cannot seem to find an appropriate handler. Is there an easy way to make an AJAX request for an element 'on show?'

  • Selecting records in SQL that have the minimum value for that record based on another field

    I have a set of data, and while the number of fields and tables it joins with is quite complex, I believe I can distill my problem down using the required fields/tables here for illustration regarding this particular problem. So in the above example, for record 001002003 I would want to show the close prices from Vendor 1 and Vendor 2 because they both have a weight of 1 (the minimum weight for that record). But for 111222333 I would want to show just the bid price from Vendor 3 because its weight of 2 is the minimum, non-zero for that record.   • When my object is no longer referenced why do its events continue to run?

    Say I am making a game and have a base Buff class. I may also have a subclass named ThornsBuff which subscribes to the Player class's Damaged event. The Player may have a list of Buffs and one of them may be the ThornsBuff. For example: Test Class Player player = new Player(); player.ActiveBuffs.Add(new ThornsBuff(player)); ThornsBuff Class public ThornsBuff(Player player) { player.DamageTaken += player_DamageTaken; } private void player_DamageTaken(MessagePlayerDamaged m) { m.Assailant.Stats.Health -= (int)(m.DamageAmount * .25); } This is all to illustrate an example. If I were to remove the buff from the list, the event is not detached. Even though the player no longer has the buff, the event is still executed as if he did. Now, I could have a Dispel method to unregister the event, but that forces the developer to call Dispel in addition to removing the Buff from the list. What if they forget, increased coupling, etc. What I don't understand is why the event doesn't detatch itself automatically when the Buff is removed from the list. The Buff only existed in the list and that is its one reference. After it is removed shouldn't the event be detached? I tried adding the detaching code to the finalizer of the Buff but that didn't fix it either. The event is still running even after it has 0 references. I suppose it is because the garbage collector had not run yet? Is there any way to make it automatic and instant so that when the object has no references all its events are unregisted? Thanks.

  • Can I use accepts_nested_attributes_for with checkboxes in a _form to select potential 'links' from a list

    In Rails 3: I have the following models: class System has_many :input_modes # name of the table with the join in it has_many :imodes, :through => :input_modes, :source => 'mode', :class_name => "Mode" has_many :output_modes has_many :omodes, :through => :output_modes, :source => 'mode', :class_name => 'Mode' end class InputMode # OutputMode is identical belongs_to :mode belongs_to :system end class Mode ... fields, i.e. name ... end That works nicely and I can assign lists of Modes to imodes and omodes as intended. What I'd like to do is use accepts_nested_attributes_for or some other such magic in the System model and build a view with a set of checkboxes. The set of valid Modes for a given System is defined elsewhere. I'm using checkboxes in the _form view to select which of the valid modes is actually set in imodes and omodes . I don't want to create new Modes from this view, just select from a list of pre-defined Modes. Below is what I'm currently using in my _form view. It generates a list of checkboxes, one for each allowed Mode for the System being edited. If the checkbox is ticked then that Mode is to be included in the imodes list. <% @allowed_modes.each do |mode| %> <li> <%= check_box_tag :imode_ids, mode.id, @system.imodes.include?(modifier), :name => 'imode_ids[]' %> <%= mode.name %> </li> <% end %> Which passes this into the controller in params: { ..., "imode_ids"=>["2", "14"], ... } In the controller#create I extract and assign the Modes that had their corresponding checkboxes ticked and add them to imodes with the following code: @system = System.new(params[:system]) # Note the the empty list that makes sure we clear the # list if none of the checkboxes are ticked if params.has_key?(:imode_ids) imodes = Mode.find(params[:imode_ids]) else imodes = [] end @system.imodes = imodes Once again that all works nicely but I'll have to copy that cludgey code into the other methods in the controller and I'd much prefer to use something more magical if possible. I feel like I've passed off the path of nice clean rails code and into the forest of "hacking around" rails; it works but I don't like it. What should I have done?

  • Can I use Jquery to automatically find and set the width and height of a variety of images?

    I am using the Masonry Plugin and for it to work correctly with images, you need to set the width and height within the image tag. All the image's heights will vary, but the width will be set at 200px. Is there a way for Jquery to detect the height of each image and set it's height? That way I don't have to go set the height of every single image. Does this make sense? Hope someone can help! I am new to Jquery.

  • Drop down menu like the default iPad application menus

    Hi Everyone, I'm currently working on my first iOS application to run on the iPad, and I've come across a problem. I have been asked to implement menu's similar to the ones in the default applications such as when you click on the "Calendars" button in the top left of the calendars app. Only issue is, I cant seem to find a standard UI object that looks like these, with the arrow connecting the menu to the button etc. Is this a standard UI component that I should be able to use, or will I have to imitate them by creating a custom object?     I have been working with NSArrays and NSMutableArrays that store NSDate objects for a few days now. I noticed that calling [listOfDates removeObject:date1] removes all the NSDate objects from the array. I have instead been doing this to remove objects: NSMutableArray *dateList; // Has Dates in it NSDate *dateToRemove; // Date Object to Remove __block NSUInteger indexToRemove; __block BOOL foundMatch = NO; [dateList enumerateObjectsUsingBlock:^(id obj, NSUInteger idx, BOOL *stop) { if ([obj isEqualToDate:dateToRemove]) { indexToRemove = idx; foundMatch = YES; *stop = YES; } }]; if (foundMatch) { [dateList removeObjectAtIndex:indexToRemove]; } Is there a better way to be doing this? Perhaps another data structure? Or a simpler function?

  • MySQL: Return grouped fields where the group is not empty, efficiently

    In one statement I'm trying to group rows of one table by joining to another table. I want to only get grouped rows where their grouped result is not empty. Ex. Items and Categories SELECT Category.id FROM Item, Category WHERE Category.id = Item.categoryId GROUP BY Category.id HAVING COUNT(Item.id) > 0 The above query gives me the results that I want but this is slow, since it has to count all the rows grouped by Category.id. What's a more effecient way? I was trying to do a Group By LIMIT to only retrieve one row per group. But my attempts failed horribly. Any idea how I can do this? Thanks

  • Why does SQL Server consider N'????' and N'???' to be equal?

    We are testing our application for Unicode compatibility and have been selecting random characters outside the Latin character set for testing. On both Latin and Japanese-collated systems the following equality is true (U+3422): N'????' = N'???' but the following is not (U+30C1): N'????' = N'???' This was discovered when a test case using the first example (using U+3422) violated a unique index. Do we need to be more selective about the characters we use for testing? Obviously we don't know the semantic meaning of the above comparisons. Would this behavior be obvious to a native speaker?

    Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 960 students ‘crouched’, ‘touched’ and ‘set’ under the watchful eye of International Rugby Referee Alain Roland, and supported by Oracle employees, to successfully set a new world record for the World’s Largest Scrum to raise funds and awareness for the Irish Youth Foundation. Last year Oracle Employees supported the Irish Youth Foundation by donating funds from their payroll through the Giving Tree Appeal. We were the largest corporate donor to the IYF by raising €3075. To acknowledge our generosity the IYF asked Oracle Leadership in Society team members to participate in their most recent campaign which was to break the Guinness Book of Records by forming the World’s Largest Rugby Scrum. This was a wonderful opportunity for Oracle’s Leadership in Society to promote the charity, support education and to make a mark in the Corporate Social Responsibility field. The students who formed the scrum also gave up their lunch money and raised a total of €3000. This year we hope Oracle Employees will once again support the IYF with the challenge to match that amount. On the 24th of October the sun shone down on the streaming lines of students entering the field. 480 students were decked out in bright red Oracle T-Shirts against the other 480 in blue and white jerseys - all ready to form a striking scrum. Ryan Tubridy the host of the event made the opening announcement and with the blow of a whistle the Scum began. 960 students locked tight together with the Leinster players also at each side. Leinster Manager Matt O’Connor was there along with presenters Ryan Tubridy and George Hook to assist with getting the boys in line and keeping the shape of the scrum. In accordance with Guinness Book of Records rules, the ball was fed into the scrum properly by Ireland and Leinster scrum-half, Eoin Reddan, and was then passed out the line to his Leinster team mates including Ian Madigan, Brendan Macken and Jordi Murphy, also proudly sporting the Oracle T-Shirt. The new World Record was made, everyone gave a big cheer and thankfully nobody got injured! Thank you to everyone in Oracle who donated last year through the Giving Tree Appeal. Your generosity has gone a long way to support local groups both. Last year’s donation was so substantial that the IYF were able to spread it across two youth groups: The first being Ballybough Youth Project in Dublin. In difference to Ryan's showcase my URL called via the AJAX request shall be handled dynamically, cause I do not always call the same URL when the user reaches the end of my page. How can the lambda line be used which will sort the list, for an arbitrary number of keys that are passed in to the multikeysort function, and take into consideration that the sortkeys may have any number of keys and those that need reversed sorts will be identified with a '-' before it?

    I can't seem to figure out what I am doing wrong here. I have implemented the Super Simple Authentication from Ryan Bates tutorial and while the login portion is functioning correctly, I can't get an error message and redirect to happen correctly for a bad login. Ryan Bates admits in his comments he left this out but can't seem to implement his recommendation. Basically what is happening is that when someone logs in correctly it works. When a bad password is entered it does the same redirect and flashes 'successfully logged in' thought they are not. The admin links do not show (which is correct and are the links protected by the <% if admin? %) but I need it to say 'failed login' and redirect to login path.   • How can I save an entire list of items true or false?

    I'm following Ryan Bates, Railscast episode 52 and I've translated relevant parts of the code to work with Rails 3.0.0.beta2. In Ryan's case, he simply marks items incomplete and saves a timestamp. If an Item contains a timestamp the model returns the item in the completed list. I'm attempting to save ALL values true or false, depending on whether the check_box_tag is selected or not (using boolean). I am able to save ONLY selected items, true or false. How can I save an entire list of items true or false, depending on whether the checkbox is selected?   • Apache 2 Virtual Hosts no working on OSX 10.6

    This is my first MacBook and I'm trying to get virtual hosts up and running so as it's going to be my dev machine. I've got apache/php/mysql running fine, the problem is that what ever address I go to I just get one of the virtual hosts I've setup. I can't even get to the root site anymore. I had phpmyadmin setup on http://localhost/pma but now that comes up with an error. If I take out the vhosts config file it seems to work again.     Hey, I'm having trouble with an onboard nvidia gigabit network, under times of heavy load on the network, I'm seeing this error logged: "too many iterations (6) in nv_nic_irq" I'm running Hadoop DFS over these NICs and I see checksum errors build up until the whole thing just fails. I'm running the 2.6.26-2-amd64 kernel, and my initial research seems to imply its a problem with the forcedeth driver. Has anyone run into this problem before? Thanks in advance if anyone can help!
