Unable to mount smb share. "Please select another viewer and try again". Please help. Serious smb/nautilus foo needed

This don't think this is the typical, "I can't mount a windows share" post. I am using stock Ubuntu 12.04. I am pretty sure this is a Nautilus issue, but I have reached a dead end. I have one share that I can't mount using smb://server/share via nautilus. I get the following error. Error: Failed to mount Windows share Please select another viewer and try again I can mount this share from other machines(non-ubuntu) using the same credentials so I know I have perms on the destination share. I can mount other shares on other servers from my Ubuntu box so I am pretty sure I have all the smb packages I need on my Ubuntu box. To make thing more interesting, if I use smbclient from the command line, I mount this share with no problems from my Ubuntu box. So here's what we know: destination share perms are ok (no problem accessing from other machines) smb is setup correctly on Ubuntu box (access other windows shares no problem) I only get the error when using nautilus smbclient in terminal works, no problem Any help would be greatly appreciated. Googling turned up simple mount/perms issues, and I don't think that is what is going on here. Let me know if you need more information. Hugh

HTML5 Audio: Which formats? Ditch Ogg Vorbis in favor of Ogg Opus? Is MP3 still needed?

I'm currently working on a website which has to stream audio files. Since bandwidth is always an issue, the file size should be as small as possible. I wonder what audio formats I should provide. MP3 - Most common format but low quality, I don't know if it's even required, since AAC is well supported by the browsers incapable of playing free codecs MP4 AAC - Nice quality / small filesize, supported by Safari / Mobile Devices / IE9 / Flash / Chrome A free codec - well, until recently, there only was Ogg Vorbis, but Ogg Opus is standardized now and it's really good! Questions: Is it time yet to use Opus instead if Vorbis? Firefox supports Opus since version 15, and Opera has support on its roadmap - I guess Chrome will follow in the future too. Do I still have to provide an MP3 file?

Help with Grub2 needed post 13.10 updgrade. Grub sees my opensuse12.3 but when selected hangs with black screen.

This happened on last upgrade and I reinstalled opensuse. I want to avoid that this time. When opensuse controlled grub the options to boot either OS worked fine. The ubuntu one will not work. Are there grub settings I can change to get this working? Would it be better to get the opensuse grub to load, if so how can I do this. i can see the opensuse root and home directories from ubuntu (they are on a separate HDD) Thanks

Java Logger API

This is a more like a tip rather than technical write up and serves as a quick intro for newbies. The logger API helps to diagnose application level or JDK level issues at runtime. There are 7 levels which decide the detailing in logging (SEVERE, WARNING, INFO, CONFIG, FINE, FINER, FINEST). Its best to start with highest level and as we narrow down, use more detailed logging for a specific area. SEVERE is the highest and FINEST is the lowest. This may not make sense until we understand some jargon. The Logger class provides the ability to stream messages to an output stream in a format that can be controlled by the user. What this translates to is, I can create a logger with this simple invocation and use it add debug messages in my class: import java.util.logging.*; private static final Logger focusLog = Logger.getLogger("java.awt.focus.KeyboardFocusManager"); if (focusLog.isLoggable(Level.FINEST)) { focusLog.log(Level.FINEST, "Calling peer setCurrentFocusOwner}); LogManager acts like a book keeper and all the getLogger calls are forwarded to LogManager. The LogManager itself is a singleton class object which gets statically initialized on JVM start up. More on this later. If there is no existing logger with the given name, a new one is created. If there is one (and not yet GC’ed), then the existing Logger object is returned. By default, a root logger is created on JVM start up. All anonymous loggers are made as the children of the root logger. Named loggers have the hierarchy as per their name resolutions. Eg: java.awt.focus is the parent logger for java.awt.focus.KeyboardFocusManager etc. Before logging any message, the logger checks for the log level specified. If null is specified, the log level of the parent logger will be set. However, if the log level is off, no log messages would be written, irrespective of the parent’s log level. All the messages that are posted to the Logger are handled as a LogRecord object.i.e. FocusLog.log would create a new LogRecord object with the log level and message as its data members). The level of logging and thread number are also tracked. LogRecord is passed on to all the registered Handlers. Handler is basically a means to output the messages. The output may be redirected to either a log file or console or a network logging service. The Handler classes use the LogManager properties to set filters and formatters. During initialization or JVM start up, LogManager looks for logging.properties file in jre/lib and sets the properties if the file is provided. An alternate location for properties file can also be specified by setting java.util.logging.config.file system property. This can be set in Java Control Panel ? Java ? Runtime parameters as -Djava.util.logging.config.file = <mylogfile> or passed as a command line parameter java -Djava.util.logging.config.file = C:/Sunita/myLog The redirection of logging depends on what is specified rather registered as a handler with JVM in the properties file. java.util.logging.ConsoleHandler sends the output to system.err and java.util.logging.FileHandler sends the output to file. File name of the log file can also be specified. Ubuntu 12.04 + Raid0 + Windows 7 not loading

please someone help me.... (Sorry for my english) Hi, I have a Pc with 2 Hd (1Tb each) on Raid0. I had a Windows 7 64bits working for several months. When I installed the Windows I let a 100Gb partition empty to install Ubuntu someday. I was using Linux on a Virtualbox, but this week I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 in this 100Gb partition. I used the Ubuntu alternate cd, because the 'normal' cd was giving me trouble with the Raid0. The grub installation always reported a error. After a lot of work I found that I nedded to install grub on partition /dev/mapper/isw_chjbfeec_DougRaid1 (see Bootinfo below). The Windows installation created a 100Mb boot partition, so I needed to install grub in this partition. Now I have the Ubuntu working 100% ok. The problem is, the Windows is not booting! The windows option is present on the grub menu, but when I choose the windows option there is a black screen and after that the grub is reloaded. Hi, I have been busy creating an app for Red5. Imagine what was my surprise when I tried to configure basic/digest authentication and I couldn't. What struck me as strange is that I have a running tomcat instance that works and authenticates correctly with the following xmls: web.xml (part of) <security-constraint> <web-resource-collection> <web-resource-name>A Protected Page</web-resource-name> <url-pattern>/stats.jsp</url-pattern> </web-resource-collection> <auth-constraint> <description/> <role-name>tomcat</role-name> </auth-constraint> </security-constraint> <login-config> <auth-method>DIGEST</auth-method> <realm-name>BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA</realm-name> </login-config> <security-role> <description/> <role-name>tomcat</role-name> </security-role> and a tomcat-users.xml in /conf that looks kinda like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <tomcat-users> <role rolename="tomcat"/> <user username="ide" password="bogus" roles="tomcat"/> </tomcat-users> The annoying thing is that configuration authenticates correctly when on tomcat's servlet container, but on the red5's modified one, it just keeps asking for authentication. Am I becoming mad or it should work like a charm? Red5 is version 0_9_1 The stats.jsp is accessible in both servlet containers, the only difference is that when you input the correct password and username in tomcat, you are logged in, and in red5 you are not, it just keeps asking you for the password. Any pointers? Am I missing something? Spring's EntityManager not persisting

Well, my project was using EJB and JPA (with Hibernate), but I had to switch to Spring. Everything was working well before that. The EJB used to inject the EntityManager, controled the transaction, etc. Ok, when I switched to Spring, I had a lot of problems because I'm new on Spring. But after everything is running, I have the problem: the data is never saved on database. I configured my Spring to control the transactions, I have spring beans used in JSF, that has spring services that do the hard work. This services have a EntityManager injected and use @Transactional REQUIRED. This services pass the EntityManager to a DAO that call entityManager.persist(bean). The selects appears to work well, the JTA transaction appears to work well to (I saw in log), but the entity is not saved! "domain crashed" when creating new Xen instance

I have downloaded a Xen virtual machine image from the appscale project, and I am trying to start it up. However once I run the command; xm create -c -f xen.conf The instance immediately crashes and provides no console output. however it produces logs that I have posted below. but this is the error; [2011-03-01 12:34:03 xend.XendDomainInfo 3580] WARNING (XendDomainInfo:1178) Domain has crashed: name=appscale-1.4b id=10. I have managed to mount the root.img file locally and verify that it is actually an ext3 file system. Friend wants to return an iMac with Lion in it. How does he remove his personal info / do clean install?

I have a Mac, but not Lion, and it seems like a lot has changed with Lion. He wants to return the computer. I told him doing a clean install will make it like new, but he says you can't download a bootable disk image from the appstore to do this. He doesn't want to torrent it because he thinks the store will know it's a ripped version. Is there a way for him to remove his Admin account so that none of his personal info remians on the machine?

Sonar Analysis crashing with default configuration in Maven

I'm starting to experiment with Sonar, and having trouble. I'm running everything on the same Red Hat Linux server, against Java 1.6.10. I launched the server with "bin/linux-x86-32" (the JVM is 32-bit). The sonar.log shows no SEVERE or ERROR and one WARNING, that I'm using the default Derby database (I'll fix that once I get things running at all). I am trying to build a Maven project that builds a JAR. I made no Sonar-specific changes (other than one described below). I can run "mvn clean install" with no problem. However, if I then run "mvn -e sonar:sonar", I get the stacktrace listed below. The server logs no events. I added the dependency "commons-pool:commons-pool:20030825.183949, but to no avail. A client has a Sonicwall Pro 2040 running SonicOS 3.0, and they'd like to be able to use the L2TP VPN client from their iPads to connect to internal services (Citrix, etc). I've enabled the L2TP VPN server on the Sonicwall, made sure to set AES-128 for phase 2, and set up the configuration on a test iPad with the appropriate username, password, and pre-shared key. Table header to stay fixed at the top when user scrolls it out of view with jQuery

I am trying to design an HTML table where the header will stay at the top of the page when AND ONLY when the user scrolls it out of view. For example, the table may be 500 pixels down from the page, how do I make it so that if the user scrolls the header out of view (browser detects its no longer in the windows view somehow), it will stay put at the top? Why is Apache seg faulting?

We have a production server that seems to Seg Fault a few times every day. The fault is picked up by Apache and logged in the error log - but there seems to be no traffic around the time. If it's a request generating the fault then it looks like it happens before any other logging is made so I can't see how it's happening so it's very hard to debug. I can confirm that the server is operational and doesn't appear to be misbehaving - the failures are so infrequent that I haven't seen it do one while making a request myself.
