• How to pass common arguments to Perl modules

  I'm not thrilled with the argument-passing architecture I'm evolving for the (many) Perl scripts that have been developed for some scripts that call various Hadoop MapReduce jobs. There are currently 8 scripts (of the form run_something.pl) that are run from cron. (And more on the way ... we expect anywhere from 1 to 3 more for every function we add to hadoop.) Each of these have about 6 identical command-line parameters, and a couple command line parameters that are similar, all specified with Euclid. The implementations are in a dozen .pm modules. Some of which are common, and others of which are unique.... Currently I'm passing the args globally to each module ... Inside run_something.pl I have: set_common_args (%ARGV); set_something_args (%ARGV); And inside Something.pm I have sub set_something_args { (%MYARGS) =@_; } So then I can do if ( $MYARGS{'--needs_more_beer'} ) { $beer++; } I'm seeing that I'm probably going to have additional "common" files that I'll want to pass args to, so I'll have three or four set_xxx_args calls at the top of each run_something.pl, and it just doesn't seem too elegant. On the other hand, it beats passing the whole stupid argument array down the call chain, and choosing and passing individual elements down the call chain is (a) too much work (b) error-prone (c) doesn't buy much. In lots of ways what I'm doing is just object-oriented design without the object-oriented language trappings, and it looks uglier without said trappings, but nonetheless ... Anyone have thoughts or ideas?

  I have a ParameterView and ParameterViewModel, and I need the ParameterViewModel to have a reference to the Parameter view (more on that later). In the window I have a list of ParameterViewModels and in the ResourceDictionary I add the DataTemplate: <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type my:ParameterViewModel}" > <my:ParameterView HorizontalAlignment="Left"/> </DataTemplate> I then bind an ItemsControl.ItemSource to the List of ParameterViewModels The problem is: How can I pass the ParameterView to the ParameterViewModel in this scenario? The reason I need the ParameterView in the ParameterViewModel is the following: I have a TextBox whose Text property is binded to the PropertyModelView.Name property. But I want to display a default string when the Name is empty or Null. I've tried to set the property value to the default string I want when that happens but the TextBox.Text is not set in this scenario. I do something like this: private string _name; public string Name { get { return _name; } set { if (value == null || value.Length == 0) Name = _defaultName; else _name = value; } } I've also tried to specifically set the TextBox.Text binding mode to TwoWay without success.   For my website I want to store the general format of the site in a single PHP file in a single location, and each of the different pages content in the local location of the page. I then want to pass the title and content address to the included file via a variable. However I can't get the included format file to read the variables storing the title and content data. AKA, the called file for the individual page would be: <?php $title = 'Some Title'; $source_file = 'content.php'; readfile('http:...../format.php'); ?> The format file would be: <html> ... <title> <?php echo $title; ?> </title> ... <?php include($source_file); ?> ... I recall reading somewhere I need to include something to get the variables at the start of the format file, however I can't remember what it is or find where I found that information.

  How do I pass an EF expression as a method argument? To illustrate my question I have created a pseudo code example: The first example is my method today. The example utilizes EF and a Fancy Retry Logic. What I need to do is to encapsulate the Fancy Retry Logic so that it becomes more generic and does not duplicate. In the second example is how I want it to be, with a helper method that accepts the EF expression as an argument. This would be a trivial thing to do with SQL, but I want to do it with EF so that I can benefit from the strongly typed objects.   I'm hoping to implement something like all of the great plugins out there for ruby, so that you can do this: acts_as_commentable has_attached_file :avatar But I have one constraint: That helper method can only include a module; it can't define any variables or methods. The reason for this is because, I want the options hash to define something like type, and that could be converted into one of say 20 different 'workhorse' modules, all of which I could sum up in a line like this: def dynamic_method(options = {}) include ("My::Helpers::#{options[:type].to_s.camelize}").constantize(options) end Then those 'workhorses' would handle the options, doing things like: has_many "#{options[:something]}" Here's what the structure looks like, and I'm wondering if you know the missing piece in the puzzle: # 1 - The workhorse, encapsuling all dynamic variables module My::Module def self.included(base) base.extend ClassMethods base.class_eval do include InstanceMethods end end module InstanceMethods self.instance_eval %Q? def #{options[:my_method]} "world!" end ? end module ClassMethods end end # 2 - all this does is define that helper method module HelperModule def self.included(base) base.extend(ClassMethods) end module ClassMethods def dynamic_method(options = {}) # don't know how to get options through! include My::Module(options) end end end # 3 - send it to active_record ActiveRecord::Base.send(:include, HelperModule) # 4 - what it looks like class TestClass < ActiveRecord::Base dynamic_method :my_method => "hello" end puts TestClass.new.hello #=> "world!" So far I'm stuck and have resorted to writing it in C. I searched online and knew that in WebGL, you can't pass an array into the fragment shader, so the only way is use the texture. Here is the problem I can't figure out. To clarify, let's say user fills this 3 text boxes and press button which adds on form again these 3 text boxes. Now when user clicks submit this form is sent to controller, but how do I sent List of models as parameter.   I'm getting huge differences when I pass a float from C# to C++. I'm passing a dynamic float wich changes over time. With a debuger I get this: c++ lonVel -0.036019072 float c# lonVel -0.029392920 float I did set my MSVC++2010 floating point model to /fp:fast wich should be the standard in .NET if I'm not mistaken, but this didnt help. Now I cant give out the code but I can show a fraction of it. I am new to Drupal so I am positive that I miss something here. I thought I need a new set of eyes.

  Emaroo is a free utility for browsing most recently used (MRU) lists of various applications. Quickly open files, jump to their folder in Windows Explorer, copy their path - all with just a few keystrokes or mouse clicks. tl;dr: Emaroo 1.4.0 is out, go download it on www.roland-weigelt.de/emaroo   Why Emaroo? Let me give you a few examples. Let’s assume you have pinned Emaroo to the first spot on the task bar so you can start it by hitting Win+1. To start one of the most recently used Visual Studio solutions you type Win+1, [maybe arrow key down a few times], Enter This means that you can start the most recent solution simply by Win+1, Enter What else? If you want to open an Explorer window at the file location of the solution, you type Ctrl+E instead of Enter.   If you know that the solution contains “foo” in its name, you can type “foo” to filter the list. Because this is not a general purpose search like e.g. the Search charm, but instead operates only on the MRU list of a single application, you usually have to type only a few characters until you can press Enter or Ctrl+E.   Ctrl+C copies the file path of the selected MRU item, Ctrl+Shift+C copies the directory If you have several versions of Visual Studio installed, the context menu lets you open a solution in a higher version.   Using the context menu, you can open a Visual Studio solution in Blend. So far I have only mentioned Visual Studio, but Emaroo knows about other applications, too. It remembers the last application you used, you can change between applications with the left/right arrow or accelerator keys. • Core Data migration failing with error: Failed to save new store after first pass of migration

  In the past I had already implemented successfully automatic migration from version 1 of my data model to version 2. Now, using SDK 3.1.3, migrating from version 2 to version 3 fails with the following error: Unresolved error Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=134110 UserInfo=0x5363360 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 134110.)", { NSUnderlyingError = Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=256 UserInfo=0x53622b0 "Operation could not be completed. (Cocoa error 256.)"; reason = "Failed to save new store after first pass of migration."; } I have tried automatic migration using NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption and NSInferMappingModelAutomaticallyOption and also migration using only NSMigratePersistentStoresAutomaticallyOption, providing a mapping model from v2 to v3. I see the above error logged, and no object is available in the application. However, if I quit the application and reopen it, everything is in place and working.   I am trying to pass Selected MenuItem's Text/Header string as the MethodParameter to my ObjectDataProvider. I have seen examples like these on the internet but haven't been able to adapt it to the Menu Control specifically. I am new to WPF and need some help accomplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
