• Zend Framework-does every webpage have it's own controller and indexAction and view?

  I'm wanting to be sure that I am setting things up correctly. On a typical website with 10 pages, would each page have it's own controller with it's own IndexAction and it's own View folder with it's own index.phtml as a view? Or do you have one controller with multiple Page1Action, Page2Action, etc and have multiple differently named view.phtml pages within view/index folder? I'm leaning toward the former because then I can have a cleaner controller for each page... Is there a standard, or is it subjective?

• Zend Framework: How to handle exceptions in Ajax requests?

  Normally when an exception is thrown, Error controller takes command and displays error page with regular common header and footer. This behavior is not wanted in Ajax request. Because in case of error, whole html page is sent over. And in cases where I'm directly loading the content of http response in a div, this is even more unwanted. Instead in case of Ajax request, I just want to receive 'the actual error' thrown by exception. How can I do this? I think, one dirty way could be: set a var in ajax request and process accordingly. Not a good solution.

  I am using Ubuntu 10.04 and for some time I had to keep a downgraded PHP 5.2 package because I need to run Zend encrypted scripts. Recently I noticed that Zend released beta version of their loader (http://forums.zend.com/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1365&start=80#p22073) so I updated to the native PHP 5.3 package, downloaded the .so file, added this to php.ini ;zend_extension=/etc/php5/ZendOptimizer.so zend_extension=/etc/php5/ZendGuardLoader.so zend_loader.enable=1 zend_loader.disable_licensing=0 zend_loader.obfuscation_level_support=3 and restarted the server. Now I am getting this error: Fatal error: Incompatible file format: The encoded file has format major ID 1, whereas the Loader expects 4 in ... on line 0 Do you by chance know an easy fix for this? Or should I downgrade back and wait till when they release something more stable?

• ZendServer uninstall and xampp install ports conflict

  I uninstalled zend, cleaned it from the registry (it doesnt exist there).. when I go to localhost , I can see its favicon. Also my xampp port is blocked by the previous installation of zend that uses the port 80.. so I swapped xampps port to 8080.. it works..but I would rather to use port of 80.. is there a way to achieve so? perhaps changing zends port to something else? or how can I find who is listening to the same port.. By what I can see is that zend is still using the localhost..how i sthat possible

Each browser is treating it differently. I can see a shrink of the select box items in IE 8. Whereas google chrome and firefox takes the maximum width of the items in the select box. "A2") The issue is in the insert case the enitre table is being pulled across the dblink and then limited localy which takes a fair bit of time given the table size. Is there any reason adding the insert would change the behavior in this manner?

I was able to get it to select everything in the box when it is clicked (using onFocus="this.select()") but I want it to be selected 100% of the time. The text in the box will be always changing, so I tried using onChange="this.select()" but that didn't work. Here's what I have: <form> <input type="text" id="txt1" size="30" maxlength="1" onkeyup="showHint(this.value)" onFocus="this.select()" onBlur="this.select()" onChange="this.select()" value="Click here, then press a key"/> </form> Basically I just tried to call everything in hopes that something would work, but it is still acting as if only onFocus="this.select()" is there. By the way, this is for controlling something via keyboard, which is why the maxlength is only 1. I want it to be always selected so that when new key are pressed, the last command will be changed without having to use backspace.

  Hi all, I have a select box, which i can populate using two methods. First - Just by selecting any one of the option in the select box. Second - I have a link just beside the select box.Clicking this link takes me to a page2, which has the same options but as links in page2.When i click one of them , it populates the select box. Selecting the option directly from the "select" triggers an onchange event in it. But when i click the link, select my required option from that page, it does not trigger the onchange event in the select box. I am not sure where i am doing a mistake. Thanks in advance.

• Oracle, slow performance when using sub select

  I have a view that is very slow if you fetch all rows. But if I select a subset (providing an ID in the where clause) the performance is very good. I cannot hardcode the ID so I create a sub select to get the ID from another table. The sub select only returns one ID. Now the performance is very slow and it seems like Oracle is evaluating the whole view before using the where clause. Can I somehow help Oracle so SQL 2 and 3 have the same performance?   Some of our business classes are used to fill dropdown boxes or select lists. And often you have some base class for all your business classes. In this posting I will show you how to use base business class to write extension method that converts collection of business objects to ASP.NET MVC select list items without writing a lot of code. BusinessBase, BaseEntity and other base classes I prefer to have some base class for all my business classes so I can easily use them regardless of their type in contexts I need. NB! Some guys say that it is good idea to have base class for all your business classes and they also suggest you to have mappings done same way in database. Other guys say that it is good to have base class but you don’t have to have one master table in database that contains identities of all your business objects. It is up to you how and what you prefer to do but whatever you do – think and analyze first, please. :) To keep things maximally simple I will use very primitive base class in this example. This class has only Id property and that’s it. public class BaseEntity {     public virtual long Id { get; set; } } Now we have Id in base class and we have one more question to solve – how to better visualize our business objects? To users ID is not enough, they want something more informative. We can define some abstract property that all classes must implement. But there is also another option we can use – overriding ToString() method in our business classes. public class Product : BaseEntity {     public virtual string SKU { get; set; }     public virtual string Name { get; set; }       public override string ToString()     {         if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(Name))             return base.ToString();           return Name;     } } Although you can add more functionality and properties to your base class we are at point where we have what we needed: identity and human readable presentation of business objects. One works with List<T> and the other with IEnumerator<BaseEntity>. Although mostly my repositories return IList<T> when querying data there are always situations where I can use more abstract types and interfaces. Using extension methods in code In your code you can use ToSelectListItems() extension methods like shown on following code fragment. ... var model = new MyFormModel(); model.Statuses = _myRepository.ListStatuses().ToSelectListItems(); ... You can call this method on all your business classes that extend your base entity. Wanna have some fun with this code? Write overload for extension method that accepts selected item ID.

• XNA Level Select Menu

  I'll try to explain this the best I can. I'm trying to create a level select menu for a game I'm making. The menu is basically a group of blocks numbered 1-16, similar to something like the Angry Birds menu. What I've done is created a cursor, basically just an outline to surround a block, that the user can move to select what level they want to play. What I want it do is move from block to block instead of simply moving around on the X and Y axes as it does now.
