• How is the iOS support in UDK compared to Unity?

  I have some significant experience in Unity for web clients, but I'm skeptical about the 3K$ price tag to create/deploy iOS games. I noticed UDK now supports iOS, and appears to have "free" version control- and it's only 100$ from what I can tell. My primary question is: Does UDK make iOS development and deployment easy, or do you have to jump through a couple of hoops to make it work? A few side questions not worth another post: How hard is the transition from Unity to UDK? Is UnrealScript easy to pick up from a C/C# background? Does the UDK have good documentation compared to Unity?

• Is there a sequence to read through the Android Developer Site for a user new to Android?

  I keep seeing that I don't need to buy an android development book, that I should just read the Android Developer Site site because it has everything I need to know. I see it more as drinking from a fire hose. But I'm one of those people who likes to be walked thru the basics. I like to build up my knowledge, rather than being dropped into reference documentation. I also like to make sure I have see all/most of the topics covered. I'd hate to develop the wrong thing because I don't know about Fragments, Content Providers, or whatever. So, since it's a great resource, better than any book (we don't need no stinkin books), how do I traverse the site to get the information provide in the same way as a book would lay it out?

Background: Broadening my last question, there is a request for tender for a software system that's open and I have decided to take it on. I am a software developer & engineer by profession and, in this tender process, I have to put on the pricing for my bid. I have been provided a documentation consisting of functional and non-functional requirements only. I have to put a project manager's cap on and think of all aspects, e.g. cost for implementation for the project, resources needed, etc. My question is: Is there a project framework that I can follow that breaks the project cycle into steps and corresponding cost aspect or how would I go about best calculating/approximating the cost for the project?

• Adding Play Framework directory to my system path on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

  I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I am very new to the Ubuntu OS and I would need help with it. I am trying to install this open source platform called Play Framework, to install it I need to add the installation directory to my system path, the documentation for Play says that I should open a terminal and type export PATH=$PATH:/to/path/play. I have tried this it did not work. I also tried sudo apt-get install play and that did not work either. I am completely lost now, I need help urgently because it is for work. Best Martha

• Page load speeds effect on crawl rate

  We've noticed a big drop in the total pages crawled per day on our site, we have no control over the crawl rate in google webmaster tools so it's possible this has been changed by google. However it's a fairly large site and I wouldn't of thought that the crawl rate would've been decreased. What we have noticed though is a sizeable increase in page load times, in my mind this would be the cause. Can anyone else confirm if the crawl rate is directly correlated to page load time? Seems logical, longer page load time, less pages crawled. Any decent documentation on this would be appreciated, I don't normally have any input on SEO so this is new to me.

This release includes support for Oracle Solaris 11.1 and Oracle Linux 6.3, the ability to attach a network multiple times to an LDom guest using the same vswitch, support for HMP 2.2.3, improved options for adding users from remote directory servers, and a few other useful features. A list of new features is in What's New. You can view the documentation online, or you can download a zip file of the library from the Overview tab. If you're running Ops Center in connected mode, the updates are delivered to the UI.   I am currently studying the git documentation to get a hang of distributed version control workflow and use of git command line. I want to first start using git with small, personal, pet projects so to gain experience before doing it on large scale (i.e., bigger projects, team dev). What areas of the git system should I, as a lone player, devote most of my study time to... what parts should I leave for the larger scale work later on. In other words what features of the git system will fully be grasped in team work only, and therefore should not be too involved with at an individual level?

• Has anyone got the Mist engine to work on gtk3? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What GTK+ 3 engines are available? I've just upgraded my xubuntu installation to Precise and run into gtk3 theme problems - my theme based on the Mist engine doesn't work for gtk3 apps. There's a package gtk3-engines in the GNOME PPA that includes Mist, has anyone got this to work? It has a themes/Mist/gtk3.0 folder with a gtkrc file but it doesn't seem to work for me. Even if someone just has an idea where I could find more help on this I'd be grateful (is there even any documentation on making themes in gtk3?)

  One can run VirtualBox guest in "headless" mode and access it using Remote Destkop Protocol(RDP) client.This is typical when VBox server is installed on Linux/Solaris where X-window stuff is not installed and users useWindows to access the VM.So, one can install OS into VBox guests using Remote Desktop client.(e.g. mstsc.exe)Here's the setting. • What's the correct MAAS DHCP configuration?

  I've set up a MAAS controller by following this documentation: http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs1.4/cluster-configuration.html However, when I got to the DHCP configurations I was a little puzzled. The controller I created is at 172.16.142.61. It looks like that's the address for the "IP" text field. Going down the rest of the list I'm unsure of though. Should I just put in the subnet/broadcast/router (is that the gateway?) that the MAAS server resides in or am I suppost to just list the static address of the MAAS server and then define my own "virtual" subnet in the fields below?

  I have read the Google page event documentation, but I am not sure I understand it correctly. I am new to Google analytics, and I have two questions: Once I have google analytics enabled for my site (i.e. I have inserted the tracking code in my pages etc), do I need to set anything else up (at the Google end - i.e. in my Google analytics account) It is not clear to me how the event data particularly, relating to how the data can be aggregated and analyzed. For instance, if I want to track an event under category category for click action action, I will use the following code snippet: <a href="some-uri.htm" onclick="_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'category', 'action', 'label']);">Do Something</a> For the sake of simplicity, lets say I am interested in monitoring click events in my header and footer, and I want to find which pages the header and or footer is clicked most often. How would I set things up so that I can analyze the header/footer clicks aggregated at the page level?

• Expand size of Edubuntu partition on dual boot PC

  I wasn't allowed to update to the next release of Edubuntu recently. It gave me an error stating that I did not have enough space to run the update. How can I expand the size of the Edubuntu partition to allow me to update? I am new to Linux so I hope that I am giving you enough and correct information on my system. I am using an older Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop. My root.disk file is 16.3Gb and the system.disk file is 256Mb. I would appreciate someone to point me to documentation or give me instructions on how to do this. Thank you.

• Who does code coverage testing?

  Recently, I was given an opportunity to increase the code coverage in a project based on Java Swing, MySQL and other technologies. They told me to bring the code coverage to 100%, while it was only 45% at the time I joined. I am just starting, not a professional developer, right from the beginning I felt bad even though I write and understand computer programs well. (The developed code contains a lot of technical stuff like Generics and no documentation about the code is available.) Has anyone experienced the same situation before? • What impact would a young developer in a consultancy struggling on a project have?

  I am a youngish developer (working for 3 yrs). I took a job 3 months ago as an IT consultant (for the first time, I'm a consultant). In my first project, all went will till the later stages where I ran into problems with Windows/WMI (lack of documentation etc). As important as it is to not leave surprises for the client, this did happen. I was supposed to go back to finish the project about a month and a half ago, after getting a date scheduled, but this did not happen either. The project (code) was slightly rushed too and went through QA (no idea what the results are). My probation review is in a few weeks time, and I was wondering, what sort of impact would this have? My manager hasn't mentioned this project to me and apart from this, everything's been ok and he has even said, at the beginning, if you are tight on time just ask for more, so he has been accomodating (At this time, I was doing well, the problems came later).

  Hi am Computer Science student currently in college and very interested in developing open source software especially ubuntu.Is there a one stop go-to place for reading about developing ubuntu. For example I scoured through the official tutorial and documentation of Python and I was good to go.I could write useful applications. Is there any equivalent for Ubuntu or unity? I tried downloading the alpha 2,put kept crashing every 5 minute. I was told in IRC,it was due to some Xorg stack change. Now I cant even look at new Unity,let alone help develop it. Any help or guidance appreciated.

• How to convert a Bazaar repository to GIT repository?

  We have a large bazaar repository and we want to convert it to a git repository. The bazaar repository contains the folders of each of the interns. Any documentation/code prepared by interns is committed in their directory so there are a huge number of commits. What steps should be performed to securely convert the bazaar repository to a git repository so that we do not lose any commit information. We firstly need to create a backup of the existing bazaar repository and then convert it. • Where can I find affordable legal advice for game software related inquiries?

  I am working on simulation middleware which is applicable for game engine implementations. What I would like to do is to make it freely available for use for all non-commercial purposes, while at the same time imposing some percentage of royalty on revenue (above a certain threshold) that is derived from my work. Something very similar to Epic's UDK licensing model. To facilitate the use of my software, I plan to offer binaries (static libs) for several platforms, as well as obfuscated source code which I will freely distribute, in addition to documentation of the API. I simply want to impose the restriction that if you try to make money from it, I get a cut eventually. I'm wondering if there are online forums and such where I am likely to find people who are willing to assist me in terms of learning what sort of things I have to do to get things down on the right kinds of documents. So far a site like this seems to be the most promising.
