  • What happened to MS AJAX Library 4.0

    - by TT
I started to use the ms ajax 4.0 client library during the beta stages(the client template bits) and since I have upgraded to vs 2010 rtm I wanted to update my ajax code as well but I can't find anything about the library in the official rtm bits. Has it been completely replaced by jquery?

What's the difference between local/html5 on this page: http://code.google.com/p/jquery-jstore/wiki/DefaultEngines I was under the impression that I could use localstorage on Chrome, but looks like that's not the case? Some elucidation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Javascript: move the "view point" of the browser

    - by ArchJ
I have a page with many out-of-bounds contents and since I set body{overflow:hidden}, they are not outside the viewport. So I want to attach a function to a button which would move the PoV of the browser so that the out-of-bounds contents would come into the viewport. What I can think of now is to set body{position:relative} and use jQuery to animate() the body instead. But in terms of performance, is there a better way to achieve that?

  • Mobile Safari text selection after input field focus

    - by Andy
I have some legacy html that needs to work on old and new browsers (down to IE7) as well as the iPad. The iPad is the biggest issues because of how text selection is handled. On a page there is a textarea as well as some text instructions. The instructions are in a <div> and the user needs to be able to select the instructions. The problem is that once focus is placed in the textarea, the user cannot subsequently select the text instructions in the <div>. This is because the text cannot receive focus. According to the Safari Web Content Guide: Handling Events (especially, "Making Elements Clickable"), you can add a onclick event handler to the div you want to receive focus. This solution works (although it is not ideal) in iOS 6x but it does not work in iOS 5x. Does anyone have a suggestion that minimizes changes to our existing code and produces consistant user interaction. Here is sample code that shows the problem. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.js"></script> <!-- Resources: Safari Web Content Guide: Handling Events (especially, "Making Elements Clickable") http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/#documentation/appleapplications/reference/safariwebcontent/HandlingEvents/HandlingEvents.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40006511-SW1 --> </head> <body> <div style="width:550"> <div onclick='function() { void(0); }'> <p>On the iPad, I want to be able to select this text after the textarea has had focus.</p> </div> <textarea rows="20" cols="80">After focus is in the textarea, can you select the text above?</textarea> </div> </body> </html>

  • Drupal: Javascript + SWFObject: could you help me to understand why the video is not displaying in I

    - by Patrick
hi, I cannot solve this issue with the video at this link: http://www.sanstitre.ch/drupal/portfolio?tid[0]=66 It displays correctly in all browsers but not in IE8 or IE7. The IE8 debugger doesn't give me any error message. If I'm not wrong the video object is not added in IE. So, for some reason the Drupal module, jQuery Media and the library SWFObject are not adding it in IE browsers... any tip ? thanks

  • mimicking iPhone main screen slide in JavaScript

    - by Merlin
Hi, I'd like to mimick iPhone main screen in JavaScript on Safari / Chrome / Firefox. By mimicking I mean: - Having a couple of pages - Switching between the pages by clicking & dragging / swiping with my mouse - Having those dots from the bottom iPhone main screen displaying which page it is The closest to what I want is: http://jquery.hinablue.me/jqiphoneslide/ But the sliding doesn't work nearly as good as in iPhone (i have to slide first, and the animation appears after i release the mouse button), and there are no dots at the bottom.

  • HTML form to JSON without modern libraries

    - by Rok
Does anyone know of a simple javascript library that serializes a form DOM object to JSON? I know jQuery has the serialize method but since I am writing an app for IE mobile, I can't use any of the new fancy libraries, must be oldschool simple javascript, as light as possible. Cheers

  • Why would one write global code inside a function definition-call pair?

    - by ssg
I see examples where JavaScript code including jQuery and jslint use the notation below: (function(){ // do something })(); instead of: // do something I first thought this is just for local scoping, i.e. creating local variables for the code block without polluting global namespace. But I've seen instances without any local variables at all too. What am I missing here?

  • Is external JavaScript source available to scripting context inside HTML page?

    - by John K
When an external JavaScript file is referenced, <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> is the JavaScript source (lines of code before interpretation) available from the DOM or window context in the current HTML page? I mean by using only standard JavaScript without any installed components or tools. I know tools like Firebug trace into external source but it's installed on the platform and likely has special ability outside the context of the browser sandbox.

  • File uploading with ColdFusion, too big of file timing out?

    - by knawlejj
A client has the admin ability to upload a PDF to their respective directory and have it listed on their website. All of this works dandy until a PDF reaches a certain file size that makes the server time out. This causes an error and the file uploaded will not succeed. As mentioned in the title, we are using ColdFusion with a command. Is there any java/jquery/flash modules or applications that could resolve this issue?

  • Can an Ajax call complete before the DOM is loaded?

    - by Ek0nomik
I am grabbing data through a jQuery Ajax call, and displaying it on the page. I need to wait for both the DOM to load and for the Ajax call to complete before I can use the data to display it on the page. Can an Ajax call ever complete before the DOM has loaded? I'm just trying to determine where I need to put my method that will manipulate the DOM and use the data I'm getting back.

  • Remove Chrome Loading Notification?

    - by Yottagray
I am working on a project that runs in Chrome in full-screen mode and displays data that can be edited and interacted with. It makes AJAX calls(using jQuery) frequently that cause a loading notification in the lower left-hand corner on the bottom of the screen to pop up. These notifications are distracting when you are viewing the display and I would like to remove/prevent Chrome from displaying these loading notifications at all. Is it possible to prevent these notification by any means, or perhaps even mask the javascript that causes these notifications?

  • What is the use of different types of function call in js?

    - by sparrow
I have seen different type of js function call like function aTestFunction(param) { // function body } and also: aTestFunction = function(param) { // function body } what is the difference in above to implementaion? Also, i found that jquery/prototype js framework uses the second implementation in most cases. Is there any special reason for that? Sorry, I am a novice so this question may be silly to someone but will be helpful me if any guru out there helps me with this silly question. Thanks in advance.

  • Rendering a View without a Master Page

    - by Fauxide
Heya, I'm fetching a page using ajax (jquery) and appending certain data to the Requests query string to let the server know it shouldn't render the entire Page, just the view in question to the output buffer. I'm having no luck though, I can detect when the page needs to be rendered partially, but everything I've tried so far (including stuff like return PartialView()) isn't working. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Ext JS - Can I 'chain' methods on a field ??

    - by dwfresh
HI, I am just trying to set a field value and disable it at the same time. Can this be done in ext js? The docs are very weak on this subject. something like this generates errors: myForm.getForm().findField('start_date').setValue('').setDisabled(true); I'm used to JQuery which does this sort of thing nicely but haven't had luck with Ext. Thanks for any help.

  • how did i break :method -> :delete

    - by Tallboy
i refactored my entire application and gave it a whole new design. The one thing that seems to be broken is all the original link_to methods I had which were :method = :delete are now getting sent as a GET request. The only thing I did that I can remember that might cause it is delete jquery-rails from the gemfile (I'm just getting it from google ajax). Does anyone have any other ideas what I could have deleted?
