• Netinstalling CentOS if the gateway is in a different subnet

  I have a KVM host (A) running a virtual machine (B). They each have their own external IP address and the networking is setup using bridging between eth0 and br0 on A. B uses eth0, with A being the gateway. The problem is that the two external IP addresses are on different subnets (different /8s in fact) so by default, B claims it cannot reach A (Network Unreachable). I can resolve this by adding a static route on B: echo "any host gateway_ip dev eth0" > /etc/sysconfig/static-routes Modifying /etc/init.d/networking to reload the gateway after applying static routes (I only added the final line before fi): if [ -f /etc/sysconfig/static-routes ]; then grep "^any" /etc/sysconfig/static-routes | while read ignore args ; do /sbin/route add -$args done route add default gw "${GATEWAY}" fi If I then restart networking, it comes online. How can I do this (or work around it some other way) prior to the system being installed, ideally inside an Anaconda kickstart file?

• Can't rename/move files from OSX that were copied from NTFS

  Hello- I recently had data recovered and it was sent back to me on what I think is an NTFS drive. I copied all the files over to a file share I have on a Linux box, that's ext4. Now I have that share mounted on my OSX machine, and I can't move or rename most of the files. However, in a couple cases I was able to rename a folder after the third try. Another time I was able to rename a folder once, but not again. All the permissions are showing up the same on the command-line -- I can't see any differences between the permissions on any of the files/folders. Any clues??? Thanks.

  I have (maybe silly) question regarding the apache2 webserver and security - I am trying to archieve this: Users connecting from 192.168.1.24 not to be prompted for password and allowed Others asked for username and password if correct then connect. I am trying to do this for the whole directory /var/www No matter whether I put the code into .htaccess file or in httpd.conf it doesn't work for me. Order deny,allow Deny from all AuthName "PassRequest" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile /var/.htpasswd Require valid-user Allow from 192.168.1.24 Satisfy Any If I try to connect to the page I am allowed from both the allowed IP or any other, If I remove the satisfy any line then I am prompted for password, if I remove the password too and try to connect from different IP I am NOT REFUSED ... is there some module that needs to be activated or why is the IP directive skipped ? It needs to be put in every folder or /var/www/.htaccess is enough ? can I just put it in httpd.conf instead or not ?? I spend last 4 hours trying to google up why it is acting like that, Any help will be highly appreciated :-))

• WMIC returns error when querying product

  I'm trying to automate the installation of an MSI on my server, however before the installation can go ahead I need to uninstall the previous version from the server. Searching on the internet I've found that WMIC is the tool required but there seems to be a problem with the setup of WMI on the server. • cd not doing anything in the Windows Shell [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Using cd Command in Windows Command Line, Can’t Navigate to D:\ Look at the latter lines of the shell, the cd lines. Nothing's happening :( This is the Win8 shell. I used to have Win7 on C:\, and have since installed Win8 on D:. As you can see, the prompt is in C:\, and so I'm trying to move it to D:\ where it should be. And nothing's happening. How can I change the directory? (Bonus points to anyone who can tell be how to change the default shell directory.

  I am trying to decrypt my WLAN data with Wireshark. I have already read and tried eveything on this page but without any success (well, I tried the example dump on that page and succeeded, but I fail with my own packets). I caught the four-way handshake from another client connecting to the network. • Why doesn't my environment variable get set?

  I have to set an environment variable called GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS to fix the problem with Eclipse buttons in Ubuntu. To set the environment variable, I added the following line to ~/.pam_environment. GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS DEFAULT=true Surprisingly, the environment variable doesn't get set when I echo $GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS in a terminal. However, all other environment variables that I've listed in ~/.pam_environment are set properly. Besides, when I switch to a tty, e.g. Alt+Ctrl+F1, the environment variable gets set correctly. Can anyone tell what's wrong with setting this environment variable in ~/.pam_environment?

• why is mailgraph not updating ?

  I just installed mailgraph on a Linux Ubuntu 10.04 box monitoring Postifix. Everything seems to be working fine, but the graphs are not always updating. When I refresh the web page or close the browser and come back later, the graph updates and moves to the left, showing new time, the the data line is not drawn. Sometimes it does not update for several hours. I had started, stopped and restarted mailgraph-init and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas?

  I've generated rsa keys with cygwin ssh-keygen and copied them to the server with ssh-copy-id -i id_rsa.pub [email protected] I've got the following settings in my /etc/ssh/sshd_config file RSAAuthentication yes PubkeyAuthentication yes AuthorizedKeysFile .ssh/authorized_keys PermitRootLogin yes When I ssh [email protected] it still prompts for a password. • PostgreSQL won't start anymore

  Today, my PostgreSQL doesn't start anymore on my windows machine... I've tried to start the service in windows services and got the following error: Windows could not start the PostgreSQL Database Server 8.3 service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. Then I went to the command line to manually start C:/Program Files (x86)/PostgreSQL/8.3/bin/psql.exe, and then I got this error: psql: Could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061) Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5432? • What options can I use in totem, xine or vlc to play on machines with limited resources?

  Mplayer has some options that allow me to play it on a machine with limited resources. I can use mplayer -vo x11 -zoom -framedrop to play videos when otherwise I'd run out of memory. At least I think I'm running out of memory. I am running our of some resource for sure. -vo sets the video output driver -zoom actually I don't know what this does, but it works for me ;-) -framedrop allows mplayer to not render frames if it falls behind. Are there similar command line controls (or a defaults file) for totem, vlc or xine?

The basic changes I want to do is to start the program with the following settings: Line numbers activated Top toolbar deactivated Auto-indenting activated I found out that you can write set lines=xx columns=yy to the /Users/USERNAME/.gvimrc file and it will change the default window width-height Also, you can change the color scheme with :colorscheme scheme in that file, too, but I don't know how to change the other settings. • Mapped commands in VIM starting with a Comma

  In my .vimrc, I defined this line: map ,ps <Esc>:!ps<Space>-a<CR> The mapping is set (which I controlled via :verbose map ,ps while inside vim). There is nothing else mapped to the comma. However, if I type the command in command mode, nothing is displayed in the status bar, the comma is ignored, the p movement and the s insert are triggered. (I.e., VIM reacts, as if there was no command ,ps.) Is there any magic that I have overlooked in enabling comma-started mapped commands?

• How to properly create a startup script for tracd on Synology DS209+II?

  I'm running tracd on a Synology DS209+II NAS. For that purpose, I have created a script in /opt/etc/init.d called S81trac: myserver> ls -l /opt/etc/init.d -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 127 May 19 09:56 S80apache -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 122 Jun 10 10:17 S81trac This file has following contents: #!/bin/sh # run tracd /opt/bin/tracd -p 8888 -auth=*,/volume1/svn/svn-auth-file,mydomain -e /volume1/trac-env And this actually works, except, the NAS never really finishes booting: The blue light keeps flashing. Also, reboot doesn't work anymore (it hangs) and I have to use killall init to reboot the machine. I have tried running tracd in the background, by appending & to the last line of S81trac. After rebooting, the blue light stops flashing. But ps | grep tracd is empty and I can't connect to the trac instance from my PC. I guess I'm doing something wrong here, but what?

  Hi, I'm writing a simple UI for the visually impaired using a speech synthesizer. I've looked all over the internet for an email client which I can script to fit these purposes but to no avail. I believe several CLI email clients(eg MUTT) allow sending emails with command line arguments only. But I've yet to find a client that can download the emails, decode them and then dump them to a text file. The best candidate so far seems to be mailx, but it seems like it needs quite a lot of babysitting to fit my needs. Any suggestions for scripting-friendly email clients? Am I missing something fundamental about MUTT? Are there any libraries/programs that help me decode the MIME encoding used in todays emails from a maildir? Should I just bite the bullet and write a script for mailx? Thanks in advance.

• Creating a DVD-player compatible movie file

  I've created encoded a MPEG-4 file with mplayer and placed it on a DVD. The file is identified as RIFF (little-endian) data, AVI, 320 x 240, 25.00 fps, video: FFMpeg MPEG-4, audio: uncompressed PCM (stereo, 96000 Hz) I've tried playing it on a Samsung 1080p DVD player and the codecs were not recognised. There are no firmware upgrades available for my region (Romania). How should I pick the codecs to make sure that the files are readable by this DVD player? • How to upgrade PHP to 5.3 on latest MAMP

  Hi all, I've been struggling with this for quit a while... Googling all sorts of things has brought up anything useful so far. I have MAMP 1.8.4 install on my MBP running snow leopard - i want to upgrade to PHP to 5.3 to fit to my new job's working environment.. however i can't seem to get it to work. I've tried downloading the 5.3 source and compiling it using's MAMP's ./configure statement but i always get an error regarding apxs and a possibly missing config_vars.mk file from that i understand. Has anyone been able to do this successfully? If so how? What were to happen if i were to drop the --with-apxs from the configure line? would it break the apache/php ? • Dropbox takes hours? to sync & shows diff. modified times (coincidentially in the future)

  Dropbox is taking hours to sync, I can't tell exactly how long because the time stamps on the website make no sense - they say the files were modified. . . tomorrow. Actually my netbook (windows xp) says they're last modified tomorrow in windows explorer as well. It's bizarre. The time and date on both computers are correct. The files in question are in a symlinked directory on the laptop (which are synced fine, with the correct timestamps). I have looked for an option to force dropbox to sync, but haven't located one. (There might be a command line method, but I haven't had the time to explore). thanks

  I'm trying to install SQL Server 2008 on a Windows Server 2008 x86 system, and I'm getting an error saying "Rule 'Restart computer' failed." I've already found a lot of people saying to clear the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations, but sadly this key doesn't even exist in the registry on my server. I know I've run into this exact problem before, and that remedy did not work the previous time either. I eventually found a way to list the processes that currently require a reboot in Windows, which I used as a guide for what to uninstall. I cannot, for the life of me, find out how to do that again. Does anyone know how to list the pending required reboots in windows via command line or some other tool?

There is a feature which allows to open and scroll auto-generated PDF to the paragraph that is under the cursor in TeXnicCenter. This works with Sumatra PDF and the feature is called "Forward search" in Profile settings, "Viewer" tab. I would like to have the same feature with Adobe Reader. Is this possible at all? Do I have to use "command line" or "DDE command" setting? What do I have to fill in "Command", "Server", "Topic" fields in the Profile settings?

• How to query a DHCP server to get the local DNS serves

  I have a ClarkConnect (CentOS based) box running as my home router on a RR connection. I had the DNS servers set up to use Google's DNS server. I want to change them back to the local DNS servers but I can't find an obvious/easy way to get those address short of a)reconfiguring the router's network to DHCP them (would rather not interrupt everyone) or b)calling their T/S (kill me now!). Is there a command line tool/command I can use to query the DHCP server on the external NIC to see what DNS servers it would set me up with w/o munging my existing setup?

• Check username password combination in Windows

  I have an autohotkey script that maps multiple network drives using a series of net use commands. I enter my password once into an autohotkey inputbox, then run all of the net use commands with the entered password. This works great as long as I enter the correct password. If I mistype my password it runs all the net use commands with an incorrect password and my account ends up locked out. Aside from catching the error code/output from the net use command, is there some other way (through Autohotkey/Windows command-line) to verify the username/password combo is correct before I run it multiple times?

  Current, our users can view SCORM contents using frames. We would like to disable print or hide the content for printing. So far, we have tried: @media print { body { display:none } frameset {display:none} } The above line worked very inconsistently. For example, using IE8, the print preview does not show the content but when printing without preview it shows the content. Ideally we would like to disable printing altogether when our users launch any contents. If this can't be done, we would like to hide the print content so the users will print a blank page. Additionally, we would also like to disable the print screen option if possible. Please help!!!
