  Das Oracle Enterprise Repository (OER) ist die zentrale Stelle zur Verwaltung von SOA Artefakten aller Art, mit dem Ziel, den gesamten Lebenszyklus dieser Artefakte zu begleiten. Es ist wesentliche Grundlage für deren Wiederverwendung, für die Ermittlung von Abhängigkeiten, wie auch für die Bestimmung des Wertes dieser Artefakte, was wiederum für den Nutzen der SOA Implementierung von Bedeutung ist. In AIA 11g wird die aktuelle Version des OER unterstützt und wird zusätzlich ergänzt durch die Project Lifecycle Workbench, in der die funktionale Spezifikation, die Aufteilung der Prozesse, oder beispielsweise die Generierung des Deployment Plans erfolgt.Für die Bereitstellung der Artefakte des Foundation Pack 11g gibt es inzwischen ein zugehöriges AIA Solution Pack für OER, mit dem die entsprechenden Strukturen, sowie die Bestandteile des Foundation Packs 11g, also EBOs, EBMs, EBSs, usw. unabhängig von einer AIA Installation direkt importiert werden können. • New Year, New Position, New Opportunity and Adventures!

  2010 was an incredible year of change for me. On the personal side, we celebrated our youngest daughter’s first birthday and welcomed my oldest daughter into our family (both my girls are adopted). Professionally, I put on the first ever Prairie Developer Conference, the 3rd annual Winnipeg Code Camp, the Software Development and Evolution Conference, continued to build the technology community in Winnipeg, was awarded a Microsoft MVP award for the 4th year, created a certification program to help my employer, Protegra, attain Microsoft Partner status, and had great project work throughout the year. So now its 2011, and I’m looking ahead to new challenges and opportunities with a new employer. Starting in mid February I’ll be the Microsoft Practice Lead with Online Business Systems, a Microsoft partner here in Winnipeg! I’m very excited about working with such great people and helping continue delivering quality solutions and consulting that the organization has become known for. 2010 was great, but 2011 is shaping up to be a banner year both personally and professionally!

  I am a junior developer in my first work experience after university. I joined the company as PHP developer but I ended up developing using C# and ASP.NET. Right from the start I did not receive any training in C# and I was assigned with ASP projects with quite tight deadlines scoped by Senior developers. The few project hand overs I had from other developers were brief and it looked like I had to discover the system myself, in really short time. This is my first job as web developer and I wonder whether it is normal not to have a kind of mentor to show me how to do things, especially because I am completely new to the technology. Also, do you have idea how to tackle this? As you can imagine, it gets really frustrating! Thank you!

• Developing for iOS on Linux

  I am looking for an engine or library to develop a game for iOS on Linux. High level, low level, GUI, no GUI, does not matter too much. I am really looking for anything. I'm not actually talking about deploying to iOS from Linux or anything like. I just want to do the bulk of the work on Linux, with minimal changes required to run it on iOS. Edit: YES, I do have access to a Mac, but it is limited. So I want to be able to work on the project on my regular Ubuntu box. Also, I am in the paid developer program, so I can deploy to iOS devices from the Mac.

• How do I handle a user story that I complete, but with compromise and need to revisit?

  I have just fulfilled (is that a good term?) two user stories out of a new project backlog I have just built. These are user registration and password reset, both requiring mail. I need to implement a substitute mail component because my initial choice, and a normally reliable one, wasn't working. Because I was focused on delivering the user stories, not debugging the mail component, I swapped it out to deliver working code at sprint end. Do I now log a new support issue for the mailer, or 're-insert' these stories into the backlog? If I do the latter, am I not introducing too much tech detail into user stories?

• Permissions problem when copying files to /usr/share/tomcat6

  Hi, I am running springsource framework in ubuntu 10.01. In my home folder, I have installed springsource IDE. I have my tomcat6 appserver in the /usr/share/tomcat6. While executing a sample project springapp, I have created the springapp dir in /users/share/tomcat6/webapps/ folder using sudo as I am unable to do it directly. On running the ant deploy or ant deploywar command, I am unable to copy the sample file -index.jsp from my workspace in springsource IDE to springapp dir in /usr/share/tomcat6/webapps as I am getting the error permission denied while copying the .jsp file. Can anybody please provide suggestion as to how to overcome this issue? Regards

• How should I manage "reverting" a branch done with bookmarks in mercurial?

  I have an open source project on bitbucket. Recently, I've been working on an experimental branch which I (for whatever reason) didn't make an actual branch for. Instead what I did was use bookmarks. So I made two bookmarks at the same revision test --the new code I worked on that should now be abandoned(due to an experiment failure) main -- the stable old code that works I worked in test. I also pushed from test to my server, which ended up switching the tip tag to the new unstable code, when I really would've rather it stayed at main. I "switched" back to the main bookmark by doing a hg update main and then committing an insignificant change. So, I pushed this with hg push -f and now my source control is "correct" on the server. I know that there should be a cleaner way to "switch" branches. What should I do in the future for this kind of operation?

• Recommended requirements when outsourcing xhtml/css site building?

  I'm considering outsourcing a part of our web application development project for freelancers, namely the site building part. What I mean by site building is the process of creating the xhtml/css template files, with dummy content, from a psd file (or any other graphical layout file). The resulting xhtml/css files will be used by our developers as templates for cms based page rendering. The cms in this case is Drupal, but that might not be of much relevance. I'm looking for a good set of requirements, that will result in good quality xhtml/css code, complying with today's standards leaves little to the freelancer developer's imagination in terms of what I need I'm thinking about requirements like: Valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional document type, validated by validator.w3.org Identical rendering in all modern browsers (FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE7-8) and also in IE6 All opening and closing block-level elements should be properly commented, referencing the functional part of the user interface they belong to (menu, toolbar, content, etc) No inline CSS definitions And so on. How would you organize a list like that? What requirements would you add?

• How and when to use UNIT testing properly

  I am an iOS developer. I have read about unit testing and how it is used to test specific pieces of your code. A very quick example has to do with processing JSON data onto a database. The unit test reads a file from the project bundle and executes the method that is in charge of processing JSON data. But I dont get how this is different from actually running the app and testing with the server. So my question might be a bit general, but I honestly dont understand the proper use of unit testing, or even how it is useful; I hope the experienced programmers that surf around StackOverflow can help me.   I am developing a database API for a project, with commands for getting data from the database. For example, I have one gib table, so the command for that is: getgib name alias limit fields If the user pass their name: getgib rahul Then it will return all gib data whose name is like rahul. If an alias is given then it will return all the gib owned by the user whose alias (userid) was given. I want to design the commands: limit: to limit the record in query, fields: extra fields I want to add in the select query. So now the commands are set, but: I want the gibs by the gibid, so how to make this or any suggestion to improve my command is welcome. If the user doesn't want to specify the name, and he wants only the gibs by providing alias, then what separator should I use instead of name?

• Should I group all of my .js files into one large bundle?

  One of the difficulties I'm running into with my current project is that the previous developer spaghetti'd the javascript code in lots of different files. We have modal dialogs that are reused in different places and I find that the same .js file is often loaded twice. My thinking is that I'd like to just load all of the .js files in _Layout.cshtml, and that way I know it's loaded once and only once. Also, the client should only have to download this file once as well. It should be cached and therefore shouldn't really be a performance hit, except for the first page load. I should probably note that I am using ASP.Net bundling as well and loading most of the jQuery/bootstrap/etc from CDN's. Is there anything else that I'm not thinking of that would cause problems here? Should I bundle everything into a single file?

• Exporting the frames in a Flash CS5.5 animation and possibly creating the spritesheet

  Some time ago, I asked a question here to know what would be the best way to create animations when making an Android game and I got great answers. I did what people told me there by exporting each frame from a Flash animation manually and creating the spritesheet also manually and it was very tedious. Now, I changed project and this one is going to contain a lot more animations and I feel like there has to be a better way to to export each frame individually and possibly create my spritesheets in an automated manner. My designer is using Flash CS5.5 and I was wondering if all of this was possible, as I can't find an option or code examples on how to save each frame individually. If this is not possible using Flash, please recommend me another program that can be used to create animations without having to create each frame on its own. I'd rather keep Flash as my designer knows how to use it and it's giving great results.

  The "initialization error: class file has wrong version" has become a somewhat recurrent error message thrown by JDeveloper 10.1.2.x as newer JDKs have been released in the last years. Note that JDeveloper 10.1.2 was developed to run with JDK 1.4.2. The reasons for this error message to be thrown include: A JDK version higher than 1.4.2 is being used and some unexpected incompatibility conflicts can occur because of that Some of the libraries used on the workspace and/or project were compiled with newer JDK version So, it is strongly recommended to use newer JDeveloper versions (10.1.3 - 11g) for newer JDKs. JDeveloper 10.1.2 will be desupported in December 2010 (or later depending on the support contract).   Database .NET is an awesome tool that allow us manage several database in simultaneous (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, etc). What lead me to install this tool was an problem that must be shared by must developers. Tools like SQL Server Management Studio consume to many resources, and if you don't have a decent computer you'll get problems in performance, and that's my case! With Database .NET we can access an SQL Server for example, and make several actions to database (crud operations, manage procedures, etc).Of course that this tool can replace the use of SQL Server Management Studio for example!  But it's really usefull if  you just need to perform small operations because it consumes many fewer resources. This tool don't need to be installed (it can be used as an portable application). One tip: if you are using SQL Server Express for example, don't forget to check the server name in Database .NET connection. • Is the term "web portal" obselete?

  Firstly, sorry if this is the wrong place: I've looked at all the programming-related boards and this one seems like the best fit - correct me if I'm wrong. My boss uses the term "portal" for the project I work on all the time. To me, the word makes me think of Yahoo in the late 90s. Does the word "portal" have old-school connotations, or is it just me? Do you think it's ok to use it, and not drag our client's perception of the product down into the middle-ages? Or again, am I just being weird?

• Programmers and Database Professionals in Performance Based Companies

  Anybody here work for a company (or know of someone that does) in the fields of programming or anything related to DBs and not have set work hours? Where you are paid for performance rather than how many hours you sit in a chair at the office? Any project / company I have been apart of always has pretty strict primary hours with the "great opportunity" / expectation to stay until the job is done. Is this type of flexibility really feasible in a group environment in these fields? Would pay for performance work within a company in these fields? With having strict primary hours I notice a lot of inefficiencies. Some weeks or days there is only so much that can be done (for whatever the reason may be) and if your work is done it doesn't help moral to force someone to stay for 8 hrs/day or 40hrs/week if the next week they may have to pull a 60+hr work week. I know that a lot of flexibility can come from working independently or as a consultant so this question really does not encompass those types of positions.

• Security issue about making my code public in GitHub

  I'm developing a big community/forum website and I'd like to upload my code to GitHub to have at least some sort of version control over it (because I have nothing other than a .rar file as a backup, not even SVN), to let others contribute to the project, and also perhaps using it to let my potential future employers see some of my code as some sort of curriculum. But what I'm wondering now, and I'm suprised I haven't seen anyone mention it before is the security aspect of it. Isn't publishing the code of a website a HUGE security hole? Is like giving a potential hacker or anyone who would like to find any potential exploit possible, even considering that the critical files aren't uploaded (database passwords, authentication scripts, etc.). Of course that there are millions of projects uploaded to GitHub and no one will find mine just 'by chance'. But if they look for it, it would indeed be there. Bottomline: my problem is not about copyright or licenses, but others finding exploits in my website. I'm I missing something here?

• Which paradigm to use for writing chess engine?

  If you were going to write a chess game engine, what programming paradigm would you use (OOP, procedural, etc) and why whould you choose it ? By chess engine, I mean the portion of a program that evaluates the current board and decides the computer's next move. I'm asking because I thought it might be fun to write a chess engine. Then it occured to me that I could use it as a project for learning functional programming. Then it occured to me that some problems aren't well suited to the functional paradigm. Then it occured to me that this might be good discussion fodder.

• Can I configure a visual difference view with the notifications provided by TFS?

  I have TFS sending me alerts whenever someone on my team checks in code. (I had to create notification rules for every project, but that's just a sidebar complaint in this question.) These alerts provided some information on who checked in the files when, and what files have changed, with urls to view details in a browser. The thing that baffles me is that I can't just click on the source file and see a visual diff of the changes. There's no link that will auto-launch a diff in Visual Studio (using a custom protocol) from there either. Is there a way to configure TFS to provide a visual diff of the changes to the file that was checked in via this notification UI?
