• Deletes not cascading for self-referencing entities

  I have the following (simplified) Hibernate entities: @Entity @Table(name = "package") public class Package { protected Content content; @OneToOne(cascade = {javax.persistence.CascadeType.ALL}) @JoinColumn(name = "content_id") @Fetch(value = FetchMode.JOIN) public Content getContent() { return content; } public void setContent(Content content) { this.content = content; } } @Entity @Table(name = "content") public class Content { private Set<Content> subContents = new HashSet<Content>(); private ArchivalInformationPackage parentPackage; @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.EAGER) @JoinTable(name = "subcontents", joinColumns = {@JoinColumn(name = "content_id")}, inverseJoinColumns = {@JoinColumn(name = "elt")}) @Cascade(value = {org.hibernate.annotations.CascadeType.DELETE, org.hibernate.annotations.CascadeType.REPLICATE}) @Fetch(value = FetchMode.SUBSELECT) public Set<Content> getSubContents() { return subContents; } public void setSubContents(Set<Content> subContents) { this.subContents = subContents; } @ManyToOne(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}) @JoinColumn(name = "parent_package_id") public Package getParentPackage() { return parentPackage; } public void setParentPackage(Package parentPackage) { this.parentPackage = parentPackage; } } So there is one Package, which has one "top" Content. The top Content links back to the Package, with cascade set to ALL. The top Content may have many "sub" Contents, and each sub-Content may have many sub-Contents of its own. Each sub-Content has a parent Package, which may or may not be the same Package as the top Content (ie a many-to-one relationship for Content to Package). The relationships are required to be ManyToOne (Package to Content) and ManyToMany (Content to sub-Contents) but for the case I am currently testing each sub-Content only relates to one Package or Content. The problem is that when I delete a Package and flush the session, I get a Hibernate error stating that I'm violating a foreign key constraint on table subcontents, with a particular content_id still referenced from table subcontents. I've tried specifically (recursively) deleting the Contents before deleting the Package but I get the same error. Is there a reason why this entity tree is not being deleted properly? EDIT: After reading answers/comments I realised that a Content cannot have multiple Packages, and a sub-Content cannot have multiple parent-Contents, so I have modified the annotations from ManyToOne and ManyToMany to OneToOne and OneToMany. Unfortunately that did not fix the problem. I have also added the bi-directional link from Content back to the parent Package which I left out of the simplified code.

• How to do early binding for event handler in JavaScript? (example with jQuery)

  JavaScript's late binding is great. But how do I early bind when I want to? I am using jQuery to add links with event handlers in a loop to a div. The variable 'aTag ' changes in the loop. When I click the links later, all links alert the same message, which is the last value of 'aTag'. How do I bind a different alert message to all links? • Home networking - Wireless switch?

  I currently have a Linksys WRT160N that has a couple wireless clients and a few wired clients. We are planning to switch from DSL to cable and unfortunately, there isn't a cable point in a location close to the wired clients (i.e. the new location of the router would be too far from the wired clients to lay Ethernet cables). Thus, I was wondering if there was a wireless switch of some sort in which it would be a standard Ethernet switch that would connect to my wireless network? (This is a home network,of course.)

• Custom View with Bindings in a NSTableCellView

  i have an XCode 4 project for mac desktop. It has a tableview in it that uses NSTableCellViews. The TableView is connected to an NSArrayController to provide it's content. This is using bindings for custom labels and the like, which has worked out rather well. I have a custom view that i would like to put in the NSTableCellView, which will use custom drawing based on a NSNumber value from my Table Cell View binding. Since XCode 4, you can no longer have ibplugins, which means i can no longer create custom bindings for interface builder to work with. How can I still get this value to my custom view?

  Hi folks, I'm trying to develop an image focusing algorithm for some test automation work. I've chosen to use AForge.net, since it seems like a nice mature .net friendly system. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find information on building autofocus algorithms from scratch, so I've given it my best try: take image. apply sobel edge detection filter, which generates a greyscale edge outline. generate a histogram and save the standard dev. move camera one step closer to subject and take another picture. if the standard dev is smaller than previous one, we're getting more in focus. otherwise, we've past the optimal distance to be taking pictures. is there a better way? update: HUGE flaw in this, by the way. as I get past the optimal focus point, my "image in focus" value continues growing. you'd expect a parabolic-ish function looking at distance/focus-value, but in reality you get something that's more logarithmic

  I have avoided working with fetchxml as I have been unsure the best way to handle the result data after calling crmService.Fetch(fetchXml). Applications such as passing these records into an ASP.NET datagrid would be quite useful.

  I'm embarrassed by the 'basicness' of this question, but after wasted hours, here goes. In an effort to do something with the jQuery Calculation plugin, I am playing with the basic example of the order form on the plugin site. I want to have the grand total as a form field,rather than text, so I can use the value. The function that calculates and shows the grand total is: function ($this){ // sum the total of the $("[id^=total_item]") selector var sum = $this.sum(); $("#grandTotal").text( // round the results to 2 digits sum.toFixed(2) ); } the total updates on keyup in: <span id="grandTotal"></span> But this does not work with: <input type="text" id="grandTotal" value=""/> Can anyone point me to what I need to add/change to make that work?   I would expect a Dictionary object of the form: Dictionary<string,string> dict = new Dictionary<string,string>() {["blah", "bob"], ["blahagain", "bob"]}; to serialize into JSON in the form of: { "blah": "bob", "blahagain": "bob" } NOT [ { "key": "blah", "value": "bob" }, { "key": "blahagain", "value": "bob"}] What is the reason for what appears to be a monstrosity of a generic attempt at serializing collections? The DataContractJsonSerializer uses the ISerializable interface to produce this thing. It seems to me as though somebody has taken the XML output from ISerializable and mangled this thing out of it. Is there a way to override the default serialization used by .Net here? Could I just derive from Dictionary and override the Serialization methods? Posting to hear of any caveats or suggestions people might have.

• Backup strategy for Windows Server 2008 R2 and Hyper-V

  I am in the process of planning a Hyper-V deployment with SCVMM 2008 R2. I have several VMs on VMWare Player (temporary solution) for stuff like Sharepoint 2007, 2010, and a couple of other server apps. I want to develop a resilient backup plan for this. On the software side, Data Protection Manager 2010 will support all of the server apps I run (sQL Server 2008 R2, Sharepoint, Exchange, etc). But on the hardware side (storage), what is the best way to go? Drobo seems to have issues with Hyper-V juding by a few threads on here and doesn't support DPM 2010 (which is in beta anyway) but not even the 2007 version (see http://www.drobo.com/support/best_practices.php). What storage device would work well? Do I need a home server or just an external usb drive? Capacity wise, 2tb will probably be best so I can have a small archive and implement a round-robin system. • Multiple VLANs, multiple subnets, single DHCP server?

  Hey guys! At my job we are prepping to transition from multiple LANs connected over slow VPN connections to a single MAN connected over fiber, and I've got a few questions. First of all, we are planning on making each physical site its own VLAN, but we would like to have a single DHCP server at the data center hand out IPs to each VLAN. We've pretty much got the VLAN tagging structure all worked out, but we would like to have our single DHCP server assign different subnets of IPs to each VLAN. For instance, VLAN 2 gets 10.0.2.x through 10.0.4.x, VLAN 3 gets 10.0.5.x through 10.0.7.x etc. We are an Active Directory based shop and we have a Server 2003 box handling DHCP (though we aren't averse to upgrading it to server 2008.) Is this feasible, or am I pipe-dreaming?

• Using Knockout.js to bind bootstrap daterange picker and parse span contents

  I'm new to knockout and trying to get what should be a simple task up and running. I'm working on an MVC4 .NET app with the intention of binding a date range picker to make ajax requests for updating Highchart graph data. I'm using Dan Grossman's bootstrap-themed date picker and it's been great so far (https://github.com/dangrossman/bootstrap-daterangepicker). The basic goal is to watch the span that this jQuery date ranger picker updates, and then use knockout to pass this value to another part of the app for the ajax request. I've tried everything I can find online.. valueUpdate:change on the span to using some jQuery within knockout to get the same goal done, to using a subscribe function to watch the value of the span before and after the date picker is used. Apparently this uses the jQuery .change() event handler, which is only good on inputs, selects, and textareas.. not spans. • PHP: Set max_file_uploads for one file rather than php.ini

  Like many variables in PHP using ini_set() on a page doesn't actually work. I've recently upgraded my PHP version and found that my multiple image uploader is now capped. After 3 hours of frustration, I've found that my new PHP install has the new "max_file_uploads" parameter set to "20". So only the first 7 images get uploaded (each is in three sizes, 7*3=21). I can now change my php.ini value of "max_file_uploads" to 300, but I'd rather not do that side wide. Is there any way to set that value just for a single file (upload.php)? Could a .htaccess file be used for this?

  "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" This is probably one of the most common run-time errors in .NET. Although the System.Exception has a stack trace, why does the exception not also show the name of the object reference field, or at least its type? Over the course of a year I spend hours sifting through stack traces (often in code I did not write), hoping there is a line number from a ".pdb" file, then finding the line in the code, and even then it is often not obvious which reference on the line was null. Having the name of the reference field would be very convenient. If System.ArgumentNullException instances can show the name of the method parameter ("Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value"), then surely System.NullReferenceException instances could include the name of the null field (or its containing collection).

• Images missing after moving Django to new server

  I'm moving Django project to new server. I'm newbie in Django, and I don't know where should be upload folder. There are all images which should be displayed on website. In config file I haven't seen upload folder I could specify, so I'm guessing it always should be the same location for django projects or I just can't find it. Locations are saved in database. When I've put uploaded files into media folder, so url was like domain.co.uk/media/upload/media/images/year/month/day/image_name.ext and the same is on the old website, images on website ware still missing. All images are visible if I put url by hand, but django doesn't seems to see files. • OnExit is not entering via PostSharp in asp.net project.

  Hi there, I have setup PostSharp and it appears to be working but i don't get it entering OnExit (i have logged setup to ensure it is working) ... Its a bit tricky to configure with asp.net - or is it just me ... I am using the 1.5 new version I basically have the following in my web.config and i had to add the SearchPath otherwise it can't find my assemblies <postsharp directory="C:\Program Files\PostSharp 1.5" trace="true"> <parameters> <!--<add name="parameter-name" value="parameter-value"/>--> </parameters> <searchPath> <!-- Always add the binary folder to the search path. --> <add name="bin" value="~\bin"/> </searchPath> </postsharp> I have set tracing on but what is strange to me is that it appears to build to the temp directory, maybe this is my issue, i am unsure .. hence i do F5 ... Is it possible to name the Output directory and output file?? As you can see it is editing a DLL in the temp dir so IIS is no longer in control so it doesn't execute it ??? • Why does GetSqlDecimal throw when GetDecimal doesn't?

  I have a database table that has a column of type money, allowing nulls. Using a SqlDataReader named reader, I can do decimal d = reader.GetDecimal(1); which works, unless of course we're reading a null. If I try using SqlDecimal instead--and I thought the whole point of the SqlTypes was to deal with nulls--then I get an invalid cast, whether or not the value is null. SqlDecimal s = reader.GetSqlDecimal(1); // throws an invalid cast exception What am I doing wrong? Do I really have to write a conditional statement to shepherd the value from the database to a SqlDecimal variable?

What I need to do is add a HKLM entry as well as the registry entry for the program to show in the start menu.   In the normal case I use vim's make utility I will set makeprg to the Makefile of the project I'm currently working for. Since usually the project will last for weeks or even longer, I don't need to change the setting of makeprg very often . But sometimes I need to write some "foobar" code either for practicing my c++ skill or for prototyping some primitive ideas in my mind. So whenever I switch to the "foobar" mode of vim usage, I need to comments the original makeprg setting add the new setting as following : au FileType c set makeprg=gcc\ % au FileType cpp set makeprg=g++\ % which is really very very inconvenient . when I back to the "normal project mode" of vim usage, I need to change back to the original setting . back and forth .... what I want to know from you guys is that : is it possible to make the setting of makeprg temporarily . for example , define a function in which first set a local value of makeprg and then call make before return form the function call automatically restore makeprg to the value before the function call.

  I'll be receiving a new notebook in a few days and was planning on running Ubuntu on it as it's compatible and the notebook has no OS pre-installed. The specifications are: Core 2 Duo, T6600, 4 GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics. I know a year or two ago, running a 64-bit version of Ubuntu was not advised due to much of the applications and plugins (e.g. Flash) only running on 32-bit. Is this still the case? Would I get better performance with 64-bit Ubuntu since I have 4 GB of RAM? Are there any downsides anymore?
