  • ado.net managing connections

    - by madlan
Hi, I'm populating a listview with a list of databases on a selected SQL instance, then retrieving a value from each database (It's internal product version, column doesn't always exist) I'm calling the below function to populate the second column of the listview: item.SubItems.Add(DBVersionCheck(serverName, database.Name)) Function DBVersionCheck(ByVal SelectedInstance As String, ByVal SelectedDatabase As String) Dim m_Connection As New SqlConnection("Server=" + SelectedInstance + ";User Id=sa;Password=password;Database=" + SelectedDatabase) Dim db_command As New SqlCommand("select Setting from SystemSettings where [Setting] = 'version'", m_Connection) Try m_Connection.Open() Return db_command.ExecuteScalar().trim m_Connection.Dispose() Catch ex As Exception 'MessageBox.Show(ex.Message) Return "NA" Finally m_Connection.Dispose() End Try End Function This works fine except it's creating a connection to each database and leaving it open. My understanding is the close()\dispose() releases only the connection from the pool in ado rather than the actual connection to sql. How would I close the actual connections after I've retrieved the value? Leaving these open will create hundreds of connections to databases that will probably not be used for that session.

  • editing a file with vim that has no EOL marker on the last line but has CRLF line endings

    - by rmeador
I often have to edit script files, the interpreter for which treats files that have an EOL marker on the last line of the file as an error (i.e. the file is treating CRLF as "newlines", not as "line endings"). Currently, I open these files in Vim using binary mode (-b on the command line). It autodetects the lack of EOL on the final line and sets the "noeol" option appropriately, which prevents it from writing an EOL on the last line. Because the file has CRLF line endings, I get lots of ^Ms at the end of my lines (because it interprets only Unix-style line endings in binary mode, it seems). I can't open it in text mode because the "noeol" option is ignored for non-binary files. This is very annoying, and I always have to remember to manually type the ^M at the end of each line! Is there some way I can force it to accept DOS-style line endings in binary mode, or force it to listen to the EOL option in text mode?

  • Free hosting service for private and public git repositories

    - by Alexander
Hi, does anyone know a free service for hosting private and public git repositories? There are a lot of services like for example the well known github. Most of them only allow hosting of public repositories. I want to host one or more of my private programming projects using git, but not all of them should be public (at least not for now). I also found the free service GitFarm which is build using the Google App Engine technology, but i couldn't find any information how it works (don't know what "built on Google App Engine technology" means) or if there are any other limitations. Also it seams like there is no web front-end available. An integrated web front-end, bug tracker and stuff like this would also be a big plus!

  • Possible to use Python with Intel's Atom Developer SDK (C/C++)?

    - by Jordan Magnuson
So I've made a game in Python and PyGame. Now I'm interested in submitting the game to Intel's March Developer Challenge. However, the developer challenge requires use of Intel's Atom Developer SDK (http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/sdk), which only has API's for C and C++. I'm new to Python and PyGame, and have no experience in C or C++. My question is, would it be possible to somehow implement Intel's Atom SDK through/with/from a Python application (as the first link above suggests)? I've read up a little bit on embedding/extending Python into/with C, but I'm not entirely sure what to embed or where. I mean, I know I can do things like this in C: #include <Python.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Py_Initialize(); PyRun_SimpleString("from time import time,ctime\n" "print 'Today is',ctime(time())\n"); Py_Finalize(); return 0; } But what do I do about all my dependencies on Python and Pygame, for people that don't have those installed on their machines? Normally Py2Exe takes care of compacting the required dependencies (I've managed to package my game into an exe/zip), but how do I take care of that stuff in the context of embedding within C? Can I somehow work with py2exe on this, or do I need to do something entirely different for embedding within C? It seems like it would be a lot easier to go the route of extending Python with the C validation code, rather than trying to embed my whole game within C, but I think that's not an option, "because the library provided is currently only available as a Visual Studio 2008 '.lib'", meaning the application has to be compiled with Visual Studio...? Any help, thoughts, or ideas are much appreciated! You can find the complete SDK Developer's Guide on the intel site above, but here is their "Hello World" using the C Language API: #include <stdio.h> #include “adpcore.h” int main( int argc, char* argv[] ) { ADP_RET_CODE ret_code; const ADP_APPLICATIONID myApplicationID = {{ 0x12345678,0x11112222,0x33331234,0x567890ab}}; if ((ret_code = ADP_Initialize()) != ADP_SUCCESS ){ printf( “ERROR: exiting” ); exit( -1 ); } if (( ret_code = ADP_IsAuthorized( myApplicationId )) == ADP_AUTHORIZED ) printf( “Hello World” ); else printf( “Not authorized to run” ); exit 0; } 35 Page SDK Developer Guide: http:// appdeveloper.intel.com/sites/files/pages/SDK%20Developer%20Guide.pdf

  • Outlook VBA - Find & Replace Incoming Emails

    - by user1912198
Good morning everyone at Stackoverflow, I am trying to find a VBA script that finds and replaces a certain text in incoming e-mails. So far i've been unable to find such a script that is working. I found several scripts to find and replace stuff in the e-mail but these don't work as a rule on incoming e-mails, they only work on outgoing / creating e-mails. Does anyone have such a script that they can share with me? I would like to find & replace a certain text on every incoming e-mail. I would really apreciate it! Regards, Kris ps: I don't know how to program a whole VBA script, that's why I am asking here :) Current Code: Sub testing(MyMail As MailItem) Dim mail As MailItem Dim Inbox As Outlook.Folder Set Inbox = Session.GetDefaultFolder(olFolderInbox) For Each mail In Inbox.Items 'change subject mail.Subject = "TESTING" 'replace body text If mail.BodyFormat = olFormatHTML Then mail.HTMLBody = Replace(mail.HTMLBody, "Test 123", "TESTING") Else mail.Body = Replace(mail.Body, "Test 123", "TESTING") End If Next mail End Sub

  • Issue Calculating from Rows and Columns(Summing two columns with the third of a different row)

    - by vstsdev
    With reference to my previous question Adding columns resulting from GROUP BY clause SELECT AcctId,Date, Sum(CASE WHEN DC = 'C' THEN TrnAmt ELSE 0 END) AS C, Sum(CASE WHEN DC = 'D' THEN TrnAmt ELSE 0 END) AS D FROM Table1 where AcctId = '51' GROUP BY AcctId,Date ORDER BY AcctId,Date I executed the above query and got my desired result.. AcctId Date C D 51 2012-12-04 15000 0 51 2012-12-05 150000 160596 51 2012-12-06 600 0 now I have a another operation to do on the same query i.e. I need the result to be like this AcctId Date Result 51 2012-12-04 (15000-0)-> 15000 51 2012-12-05 (150000-160596) + (15000->The first value) 4404 51 2012-12-06 600-0 +(4404 ->The calculated 2nd value) 5004 Is it possible with the same query??.

  • GUI freezes when executing def function. Use threads?

    - by wtzolt
    Hi, I've made a small program which has 2 buttons and each does certain thing. Here's a simplified version of the code. Thing is it works fine except that the button freezes and stays in a clicked position and whole GUI freezes until the command is completed. As far as I know threads would be best to use in this situation, but I have no idea how to implement it in this example. I use glade and pygtk for gui. def do1: t = 2 #do something time.sleep(t) #do something time.sleep(t) def do2: t = 3 #do something time.sleep(t) #do something time.sleep(t) class we: wTree = None def __init__( self ): self.wTree = gtk.glade.XML( "ui.glade" ) dic = { "on_buttonSone" : self.sone, "on_buttonStwo" : self.stwo, } self.wTree.signal_autoconnect( dic ) gtk.main() def sone(self, widget): i = 0 while i < 3: t = 1 #do something i += 1 time.sleep(t) self.wTree.get_widget("entryResult").set_text("Done.") def stwo(self, widget): start = time.clock() array = ['A','B'] adict = {'A':do1,'B':do2} for f in array: adict[f]() end = time.clock() elapsed = end - start gg = round(elapsed,2) self.wTree.get_widget("entryResult").set_text(str(gg)) go=we()

  • Rails uniqueness constraint and matching db unique index for null column

    - by Dave
I have the following in my migration file def self.up create_table :payment_agreements do |t| t.boolean :automatic, :default => true, :null => false t.string :payment_trigger_on_order t.references :supplier t.references :seller t.references :product t.timestamps end end I want to ensure that if a product_id is specified it is unique but I also want to allow null so I have the following in my model: validates :product_id, :uniqueness => true, :allow_nil => true Works great but I should then add an index to the migration file add_index :payment_agreements, :product_id, :unique => true Obviously this will throw an exception when two null values are inserted for product_id. I could just simply omit the index in the migration but then there's the chance that I'll get two PaymentAgreements with the same product_id as shown here: Concurrency and integrity My question is what is the best/most common way to deal with this problem

  • Help with jQuery Traversal

    - by Jack Webb-Heller
Hi guys, I'm struggling a bit with traversing in jQuery. Here's the relevant markup: <ul id="sortable" class="ui-sortable"> <li> <img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Vza76tCxL._SL160_.jpg"> <div class="controls"> <span class="move">?</span> <span class="delete">?</span> </div> <div class="data"> <h1>War and Peace (Oxford World's Classics)</h1> <textarea>Published to coincide with the centenary of Tolstoy's death, here is an exciting new edition of one of the great literary works of world literature.</textarea> </div> </li> <li> <img src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51boZxm2seL._SL160_.jpg"> <div class="controls"> <span class="move">?</span> <span class="delete">?</span> </div> <div class="data"> <h1>A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Writings (Penguin Classics)</h1> <span>Optionally, write your own description in the box below.</span> <textarea>Dicken's Christmas writings-in a new, sumptuous, and delightful clothbound edition.</textarea> </div> </li> </ul> This is code for a jQuery UI 'Sortable' element. Here's what I want to happen. When the Delete thing is clicked ($('.delete')), I want the <li> item it's contained within to be removed. I've tried using $('.delete').parent().parent().remove(); but in the case of having two items, that seems to delete both of them. I'm a bit confused by this. I also tried using closest() to find the closest li, but that didn't seem to work either. How should I best traverse the DOM in this case? Thanks! Jack

  • Is there a Drupal module for Forms with powerful CRUD style behaviour?

    - by Petras
We are building a website that contains a large number of database tables that need to be edited by the CMS administrator. Some of the tables are fed by form submissions from users on the front end of the website. Some of the tables are purely in the CMS and are used to create custom modules on the front end of the website. Although there is a forms module in Drupal, I think our requirements cannot be met by it. Does anyone know of a system that allows forms to be saved to a CRUD style database with the following features? Export of all database fields. View a summary of the records in a filterable table. With paging You can have one to many relationships in records eg To code this manually for 10 forms is A LOT of work. Particularly the one to many relationships. If there is a powerful module available it would save us writing one.

  • Get Class List for Element with JQuery

    - by Buggabill
Is there a way in JQuery to loop through or assign to an array all of the classes that are assigned to an element? ex. <div class="Lorem ipsum dolor_spec sit amet">Hello World!</div> I will be looking for a "special" class as in "dolor_spec" above. I know that I could use hasClass() but the actual class name may not necessarily be known at the time.

  • Whats the scope of c code within objective-c classes?

    - by roja
I was reading up about bypassing objective-c's messaging to gain performance (irrelevant to this specific question) when i found an interesting bit of code: #import <Cocoa/Cocoa.h> @interface Fib : NSObject { } - (long long) cFib: (NSUInteger) number; @end @implementation Fib // c implementation of fib long long cFibIMP(NSUInteger number) { return (number < 3) ? 1 : cFib(number - 1) + cFib(number - 2); } // method wrapper for c implementation of fib - (long long) cFib: (NSUInteger) number { return cFibIMP(number); } @end My question is; when using c function, within an objective-c object, what scope is the c function (cFibIMP in this particular case) placed in? Does the objective-c class encapsulate the c function removing change of name-clash or is the c function simply dumped into the global scope of the whole objective-c program?

  • How to produce precisely-timed tone and silence?

    - by Bob Denny
I have a C# project that plays Morse code for RSS feeds. I write it using Managed DirectX, only to discover that Managed DirectX is old and deprecated. The task I have is to play pure sine wave bursts interspersed with silence periods (the code) which are precisely timed as to their duration. I need to be able to call a function which plays a pure tone for so many milliseconds, then Thread.Sleep() then play another, etc. At its fastest, the tones and spaces can be as short as 40ms. It's working quite well in Managed DirectX. To get the precisely timed tone I create 1 sec. of sine wave into a secondary buffer, then to play a tone of a certain duration I seek forward to within x milliseconds of the end of the buffer then play. I've tried System.Media.SoundPlayer. It's a loser because you have to Play(), Sleep(), then Stop() for arbitrary tone lengths. The result is a tone that is too long, variable by CPU load. It takes an indeterminate amount of time to actually stop the tone. I then embarked on a lengthy attempt to use NAudio 1.3. I ended up with a memory resident stream providing the tone data, and again seeking forward leaving the desired length of tone remaining in the stream, then playing. This worked OK on the DirectSoundOut class for a while (see below) but the WaveOut class quickly dies with an internal assert saying that buffers are still on the queue despite PlayerStopped = true. This is odd since I play to the end then put a wait of the same duration between the end of the tone and the start of the next. You'd think that 80ms after starting Play of a 40 ms tone that it wouldn't have buffers on the queue. DirectSoundOut works well for a while, but its problem is that for every tone burst Play() it spins off a separate thread. Eventually (5 min or so) it just stops working. You can see thread after thread after thread exiting in the Output window while running the project in VS2008 IDE. I don't create new objects during playing, I just Seek() the tone stream then call Play() over and over, so I don't think it's a problem with orphaned buffers/whatever piling up till it's choked. I'm out of patience on this one, so I'm asking in the hopes that someone here has faced a similar requirement and can steer me in a direction with a likely solution.

  • Objective-C Memory Management: When do I [release]?

    - by Sahat
I am still new to this Memory Management stuff (Garbage Collector took care of everything in Java), but as far as I understand if you allocate memory for an object then you have to release that memory back to the computer as soon as you are finished with your object. myObject = [Object alloc]; and [myObject release]; Right now I just have 3 parts in my Objective-C .m file: @Interface, @Implementation and main. I released my object at the end of the program next to these guys: [pool drain]; return 0; But what if this program were to be a lot more complicated, would it be okay to release myObject at the end of the program? I guess a better question would be when do I release an object's allocated memory? How do I know where to place [myObject release];?

  • what is the difference between declarative and imperative programming

    - by Brad
I have been searching the web looking for a definition for declarative and imperative programming that would shed some light for me. However the language used at some of the resources that I have found is daunting - for instance at wikipedia. Does any one have a real world example that they could show me that might bring some perspective to this subject...perhaps in c# thanks

  • How do I display two different objects in a search?

    - by JZ
github url I am using a simple search that displays search results: @adds = Add.search(params[:search]) In addition to the search results I'm trying to utilize a method, nearbys(), which displays objects that are close in proximity to the search result. The following method displays objects which are close to 2, but it does not display object 2. How do I display object 2 in conjunction with the nearby objects? @adds = Add.find(2).nearbys(10) While the above code functions, when I use search, @adds = Add.search(params[:search]).nearbys(10) a no method error is returned, undefined methodnearbys' for Array:0x30c3278` How can I search the model for an object AND use the nearbys() method AND display all results returned? Model: def self.search(search) if search find(:all, :conditions => ['address LIKE ?', "%#{search}%"]) # where('address LIKE ?', "%#{search}") else find(:all) end end

  • Fortran bus error on mac

    - by SteveJ
The following Fortran code is giving me a bus error on my Mac but no errors when I run it on my Linux machine: PROGRAM TINY WRITE(UNIT=*, FMT=*) 'Hello, world!' END My understanding is that a bus error occurs when the program attempts to access impossible memory but I do not understand where such an attempt has been made in this program. My MacBook has GCC 4.4.0 and my Linux machine has GCC 4.3.2. Any ideas as to why this error occurs?

The code im using looks like this: While tempInt > Listbox.items.count then if searchString.contains(listbox(tempInt)) then end if tempInt+=1 end while Everything in the loop is fine but VB gives an error on the listbox(tempInt) part. The error is "class windows.forms.listbox cannot be indexed because it has no default value". Can anyone help get around the default value crap? I tried putting in a blank string but no change.
