  • I cannot install flash player, I am getting 1603 exit code

    I am trying to install flash player silently, using a powershell script. I do not think it is being installed. I looked under "control panel-uninstall programs" I don't see flash player listed there. Also, I am printing the exit code for the process and it prints 1603 exit code, which is "fatal error during installation" As an experiment, I double click on the flash player .msi file, and it gave me 1722 error " Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. "

  • MS Word 2010: Hide citation title when 2 publications by same first author from different years are in one citation block

    I'm trying to hide the display of the titles for two publications by the same first author from different years that are in the same citation block. By default, the title is shown in citations when there are two publications by the same author in a given document. The easiest way to get around this is to right click on the citation, click "Edit Citation", and then suppress the title. However, the issue with this is that if there are 2 citations in 1 citation block (i.e., "(Smith, J., et al. 2010, Smith, J., et al. 2011)" rather than "(Smith, J., et al. 2010) (Smith, J., et al. 2011)"), then using that suppress option only suppresses the title for the first citation (in this case, the 2010 publication). OTOH, if I try to initially insert the publications in separate citation blocks, I can suppress the title in both citations, but I can't cut and paste one into the other's citation block. I can click "Cut" and the citation that was just cut disappears, but the "Paste" option is not available when my cursor is in the second citation block. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • [Mac OS X] Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS is not recognized anymore

    I have used Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS for years now, alongside with Elgato EyeTV software. I am a happy and completely satisfied user! Since a couple of weeks the USB sitck stopped working on my MacPro1,1 (OS version 10.6.3): EyeTV does not see any device attached, and actually, the green led on the stick stays off. 1) it is not a USB port fault: I have unplugged any other USB/Firewire device and tried with different USB ports, to no avail (any other USB devices work as expected on any port) 2) I have completely uninstalled EyeTV software, including preferences and system daemons/extensions, rebooted and reinstalled the latest EyeTV. No way. 3) reset the PRAM. Nope. 4) checked the Apple System Profiler - USB: No device attached, The MacPro does not see it at all. ============= I need to say that: a) the device worked as a charm even with the latest OS 10.6.x (so it's not a OS upgrade cause) b) I have plugged the Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS to my MacBook5,1 where EyeTV is not installed and was never installed: The green led on the stick turns on, the growl bubble pops up, and the device is perfectly recognized by the system.   • HP Photosmart 7450 Prints Noise On Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

    I have received a working (in its last location) HP Photosmart 7450 printer. I connected it up to my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit workstation, and the driver was (apparently) installed. The problem is that whenever I try to print from it -- test page, text from notepad, picture, whatever -- it spins through a half dozen sheets of paper, some of which have fractions of text on them, but most of which are either blank or have line noise printed on them. Noise similar to what was printed out on ye olde laserjet printers when the postscript interpreter failed. HP's web site only has a "use the included driver in Windows 7, be happy" instruction. The driver has been removed and added several times. The printer was previously attached to a XP Home computer and worked correctly without incident. Does anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting before I drop this printer in the river?

  • How can I install an Apple Magic Trackpad on a PC without Boot Camp?

    I have a Apple Magic Trackpad and I'd like to use it with my PC. I have no other Apple hardware besides the Trackpad. I do not have OSX and thus no Boot Camp CD. The Trackpad uses Bluetooth and will pair with Windows 7 without specific drivers (appears as an HID-Compliant Mouse), but all it will do is point and left click (physical click, no touch tap). With Apple's Windows driver update, I should be able to achieve: Tap to click Dragging Drag lock Secondary click Two-finger scrolling Two-finger secondary tap/click But how can I obtain this driver without Boot Camp installed? Apple's Boot Camp update EXE will not install on my PC (non-Apple hardware).

  • Latitude E6410 - Screen flickering on Windows 8

    On Windows 8, my Latitude E6410 screen (1440x900 - 60Hz - NVidia NVS3100M) is flickering. If I turn off the laptop for 30 minutes and turn it back on, there's no flickering but it eventually start again after 10-15 minutes. The flickering seems more present at the top and bottom of the screen. I already updated the graphic card drivers, bios, etc. Nothing seems to fix the issue. To prove that it isn't a hardware issue, when I reinstalled Windows 7 I couldn't reproduce the issue. Any idea what could cause this?

  • Why does some of the songs in my iTunes library stop prematurely and go to the next song?

    For the couple of weeks a whole bunch of the songs from my iTunes library stop early and skip to the next song (just as if it was at the end of the song). Although the point where it skips varies for each song (for one song it is 2:32, another is 2:46), it will always skip at the same point for each song. A while back I ran BPMer and, although it crashed half way through, it did not appear to corrupt my music the way it is now. A few days ago I backed up my iTunes library and reformatted my hard drive (for a completely unrelated issue) and reinstalled OS X from scratch. The problem was happening before and after the reinstall. This problem also persists when the music is synced across to my iPod touch running 3.0. Listening to the same troublesome songs in my iPod causes them to end prematurely. However, I can listen to the whole song using Quicklook, so the problem must be with my iTunes library or something.

    Just bought a new HP pavilion desktop with Windows 8. I wish to totally remove Windows 8 and all data on the hard drive, remove any windows partitions, delete all data, and then install a fresh Linux. Problem is I can seem to get to boot from USB or boot from CD. It appears that Windows 8 added the following two "features": UEFI which substitutes what we have known as the BIOS Secure Boot which prevents anything but the installed operating system How do I completely and totally erase all traces of Windows 8? Is it still possible to reformat the hard drive? I don't want a duel boot, I don't want to go back to Windows 7, I just want anything Windows gone.

    Are there any tools that would help with comprehension of technical documents that contain a mix of domain specific and company specific acronyms and jargon? A tool that is functionally similar to the automatic acronym expansion done by Wikileaks in their Afgan War Diary (as seen at http://213.251.145.96/id/310B4FC4-2F89-4653-A546-1AD5D55BD9F7/) but ideally supports PDF or Microsoft Word documents.   • Multiple CD writer taking long to burn

    I have installed 6 DVD writers in Tower case. I am using Alcohol Software to burn multiple CDS. I have seen that about 4 dvd/cd writer finish recording early but some take long time finish and their speed is around 7x. Its not that those are the only writers doing that, some times other writer write slowly. But there are always 1 or 2 writer which takes about 25 min to write the 700Mb cd and some finish in 5 mins Why is that. All writers can write upto 40px speed. Which thing determines the speed

  • Windows XP "automatic" services not starting

    Hi I have a fresh install of WinXP. The main problem is that every time I start it up, I have to go into Administrative Tools and start the needed services, such as DCOM, RTP, DHCP, etc etc. The only services that start automatically are: plug and play remote procedure server windows audio workstation All of the rest have to be started manually, in spite of the fact that they're listed as "automatic".   • Windows 7 New Folder shortcut doesn't work, opens browser/Firefox

    I was so excited to hear that Windows 7 Explorer now has a hotkey to create a new folder (ctrl+shift+N), but I tried it on my machine, and it doesn't work!! If I press ctrl+shift+N in a Windows Explorer window, it opens up my default web browser (Firefox) and tries to open the last downloaded file. How do I get Create New Folder functionality back? Notes: Windows 7, Firefox is default browser. Keyboard is MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.

  • Video/Animated GIF advanced frame editor?

    What sort of application could I use for example if I had a 5 minute video or an animated GIF with 50 frames, and I wanted to basically Photoshop replace an object, say a person's head, with another image for all those 50 frames? Is there some sort of smart tool that can do this or do I have to edit every single frame by hand? I wouldn't mind there being a tool where I can paste the image in every frame automatically, and switch from frame to frame adjusting the position of it, I just need something efficient. I've tried using Photoshop's import video into image sequence and tried editing with the animation toolbar at the bottom, but it's not quite what I want. I don't care if it's free software or not, I'm primarily using Linux but I have VirtualBox Windows XP if there's an excellent application that's not available otherwise.

  • Ubuntu + latest samba version, symlinks no longer work on share mounted in windows

    I just apt-getted (apt-got?) the latest software for my Ubuntu 9.10 linux box, and I noticed that samba was the included in the update. After the install, the symlinks in my home directory no longer work when mounted as a drive in my linux box. They worked literally seconds before I did the update. All my normal directories work just fine. Viewing the directory listing on the command line, all the files, dirs & links have the exact same permissions, yet this is the error I get: Location is not available L:\LinkDir is not accessible. Access is denied. I looked on the forums, and i saw this option for the smb.conf follow symlinks = yes wide symlinks = yes unix extensions = no I put those in, but they had no effect. Has anyone had this problem yet?
