  • More nest Python nested dictionaries.

    - by clutch
After reading http://stackoverflow.com/questions/635483/what-is-the-best-way-to-implement-nested-dictionaries-in-python why is it wrong to do: c = collections.defaultdict(collections.defaultdict(int)) in python? I would think this would work to produce {key:{key:1}} or am I thinking about it wrong?

  • compare two following values in numpy array

    - by Billy Mitchell
What is the best way to touch two following values in an numpy array? example: npdata = np.array([13,15,20,25]) for i in range( len(npdata) ): print npdata[i] - npdata[i+1] this looks really messed up and additionally needs exception code for the last iteration of the loop. any ideas? Thanks!

  • joining relative urls?

    - by heffaklump
So i want to join strings with relative urls in Javascript. base url = "http://www.adress.com/more/evenmore" with relative url = "../../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/adress" relative url = "../adress" = "http://www.adress.com/more/adress" What would be the best way? I was thinking of using regexp and checking how many "../" i find, then subtracting that amount from the baseurl and adding them to what is left.

  • How to get an object from a list based upon IEqualityComparer<T>

    - by Greg
The Compare method in Linq lets you find by an IEqualityComparer, but I can't find a counterpart method that allows you retrieve an item by the same comparer. Is this really the best way to do it? MyItem myFinderItem = new MyItem(keyField1, keyField2); if (myList.Contains(myFinderItem, new MyEqualityComparer())) { MyItem myRealItem = myList.Single(item => new MyEqualityComparer().Equals(item , myFinderItem)); } (I'm sharing the usage of the IEqualityComaprer with a call to the Except Linq method and I'd like to maintain a single source for equality comparisons)

  • Looking for interesing formula

    - by Thinker
I'm creating a game, where players can make an alloy. To make it less predictable, and more interesting, I thought that durability and hardness of an alloy can't be calculated by simple formula, because it will be extremely easy to find extrema, where alloy have best statistics. So the questions is, is there any formula for a function, where extrema can be found only by investigating all points? Input values will be in percents: 0.0%-100.0%. I think, it should look like this: half sound wave

  • Applescript - How to iterate over tracks

    - by Bob Rivers
Hi, I'm a newbie in applescript. I was trying to learn it from various sources, such as Doug's site, macscripter and this forum Just for learning purposes, I was trying to print on the screen all the tracks names using this code: tell application "iTunes" set myTracks to (tracks of library playlist 1) repeat with aTrack in myTracks get name of aTrack end repeat end tell But it only prints one track name, probably the last one... So, how is the best way to iterate over a list? TIA, Bob

  • Java - Make an object collection friendly

    - by DutrowLLC
If an object holds a unique primary key, what interfaces does it need to implement in order to be collection friendly especially in terms of being efficiently sortable, hashable, etc...? If the primary key is a string, how are these interfaces best implemented? Thanks!

  • friendship database schema

    - by Daniel Hertz
I'm creating a db schema that involves users that can be friends, and I was wondering what the best way to model the ability for these friends to have friendships. Should it be its own table that simply has two columns that each represent a user? Thanks!

  • jQuery find text and replace (or BBcode hack)

    - by Harvengure
Basically I am attempting to use jQuery so that it will search out text on the page and replace it with something else. For example [x]text[/x] will be converted to text which then gets converted from text to the actual html...a round about way of it I am sure but it seems to be the best way to do it given that the forum seems to understand html as plain texst anyway...but ultimately the goal is to use this jQuery to in a way create new bbcode on the forum.

  • How to replicate PS multiply layer mode

    - by Andrew Philpott
Does anybody know of a good way to replicate Photoshop's multiply layer mode using either an image or CSS? I'm working on a project that has thumbnails that get a color overlay when you hover over them, but the designer used a layer set to multiply and I can't figure out how to produce it on the web. The best thing I've come up with is either using rgba or a transparent png, but even then it doesn't look right.

  • Common utility functions for Perl .t tests

    - by zedoo
Hi I am getting started with Test::More, already have a few .t test scripts. Now I'd like to define a function that will only be used for the tests, but accross different .t files. Where's the best place to put such a function? Define another .t without any tests and require it where needed? (As a sidenote I use the module structure created by Module::Starter)

  • Bad practice to have models made up of other models?

    - by mattruma
I have a situation where I have Model A that has a variety of properties. I have discovered that some of the properties are similar across other models. My thought was I could create Model B and Model C and have Model A be a composite with a Model B property and a Model C property. Just trying to determine if this is the best way to handle this situation.

  • How to package Qt Framework on Mac OS X?

    - by Chris Kaminski
I'm developing an application for the Mac, and I'm wicked new at this - what would be the best way to distribute the Qt Framework so that I'm not impacting an already existing framework, and so that my App.app picks up the libraries. I'm also using boost, so I'm curious how a simple bundle works with libraries.
