• Will USMT 4.0 in MDT 2010 Move/Migrate the .NK2 File for Outlook?

  We're about to begin a refresh project for about 100 XP Pro laptops and have a concern with regards to the .NK2 file which holds cached email addresses(?). If possible we'd like to have USMT move/migrate this but I can't find anything that confirms that this happens automatically or has been done before. I see lots of manual processes but at this point I'm not sure that we can use that. Has anyone done this or seen this done? Perhaps you can point me to a resource that can give me an idea how its done? Any information would be appreciated. USMT seems to get a lot of the details but missing this part seems odd. Thanks in advance for any responses.

• Can I remove a RAR file's (known) password without recompressing the archive?

  Long title. Anyway, I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. I know the password to the RAR file, I locked it myself, but now all I want to do is remove the password because it's too much of a pain in the butt to type it in every time. Is there a way to do this in WinRAR or an equivalent program? The only thing I knew to do was to extract it, then create a new RAR without the password. It's not a life-or-death issue, but it would be nice to know. Thanks for your time! EDIT: I just saw a bunch of related questions that appear to ask the same thing.   I have a logrotate.d config file that looks something like this: /home/myapp/log/* { daily compress dateext ifempty delaycompress olddir /home/myapp/baklog } There are a few particular log files where I want to apply additional rules, such as "mail". How can I apply additional rules to just some files? If I add another rule above that matches the additional files (e.g. /home/myapp/log/warning.log { ... }, I get an error like error: /etc/logrotate.d/myapp:3 duplicate log entry for /home/myapp/log/warning.log. How can I specify multiple rules that match particular files in an overlapping kind of way?

• Debian crashed, file system is read-only and cannot backup - How Do I find/mount a USB drive?

  We have a Debian server (vm's) here at work and the server crashed after a power failure. I can only boot the system in maintenance mode, and the whole file system is set to read only. I can run fsck though maintenance mode, however I would like to get a backup of some files before I do. Problem: I cannot access the net since there is no network connectivity in maintenance mode, and for some reason I try to add a USB flash drive to the computer but I can't find it through the console. Question: how to you find/mount a usb drive on Debian? I have tried several resources from the internet but nothing worked. Is there any other way I could get a backup of my files? I cannot start networking since the filesystem is set to read only. Any help would be appreciated.

  Is there a way to prevent Windows Media Player from connecting to the internet and MS using the hosts file or other methods? Edit: (Nov 20 2009 at 19:16) I have both VLC and MPC and I do use them. However I am currently using WMP to organize all my music and I hate that WMP is always making outgoing connections. I just tried TCPView and can't believe how many connections WMP makes when you first launch it. I have even disabled everything in its options that relates to connecting to internet. Could any of you recommend a good media player thats also good for organizing your music library like WMP, and doesnt connect to the internet? Preferably one that a WMP user would actually like as much as WMP. The reason I use WMP is because I like its interface, the way its setup and how it looks.

  Hello. I have a physical disk with a small (60GB) partition containing my guest OS. The physical disk also contains a large (240GB) block of unpartitioned space. My vmdk is defined as a physical "individual partition". I want to convert the source physical "individual partition" vmdk into a local (file-based) vmdk. The command - vmware-vdiskmanager -r sourcevmdk targetvmdk -t 2 creates a 300GB vmdk that includes both the desired 60GB "individual partition" and the 240GB of useless unpartitioned space ! How can I create a local vmdk with just the individual partition?

  On a Snow Leopard machine, at the Terminal: la ~/src/rmcl/ | grep RMCL -rw-r--r--@ 1 claytonstanley staff 6766167 Nov 13 2009 RMCL What is that '@' attribute? This file is part of an older OS X program that runs under Rosetta. I'm having issues where some older programs running under Rosetta require the @ attribute when opening files. But I'm not sure what that attribute is, so I have no way to know how to add/remove it. I did try a thorough Google search on this, but I wasn't able to find the answer. I would have thought this would be an easy one to find. Maybe the Google query isn't acting properly because of the single @ special character. Any info. is much appreciated. Thanks!

• Windows CE Remote Kernel Tracker - gathering data in one (more) file during a log period of time

  I'm using the "Windows CE Kernel Tracker" tool to gather data from my embedded device. This is working fine for short period of time. It seems that the tool is getting data in memory and not on disk. I'm wondering if there is a way to take the data from the device and log it in one or more file on my development computer. This could be useful for long time test period : for instance, one night or one entire day. Any ideas? p.s. I don't want to log on to the device, I want to log on my development PC.

  What is the best file system to use for a second hard drive when dual booting between WinXP and Win7? I am dual booting for legacy reasons, and I have a 2nd internal drive that I would like to use from both XP and 7. Should I go with the standard NTFS? (will the secuirty features be an issue, with different SIDs from the different users) Should I go with FAT32? Should I try out the new exFAT? Also, I curently have two of my 3 drives as "dynamic disks" and 1 spaned volume created on them. (i did this from XP) Win7 can see them/it fine. Is this an ok thing to do?

• Is it possible to dump the names of all the open files in notepad++ to a file?

  So, I dragged and dropped multiple files onto notepad++. The files came from different directories and were selected using different criteria. So, I have many files open in Notepad++. Now I need to have a list of all the open files in another file. Right now, my only option is to script the decisions used to guide me in selecting the files in the first place. Which is probably the best in the long term, but I wonder if there is a quicky one in Notepad++. Some plugin magic or whatever. Suggesting another free editor which has this function is a good option too (not that I am going to ditch notepad++, God forbid)

• Finding day of week in batch file? (Windows Server 2008)

  I have a process I run from a batch file, and i only want to run it on a certain day of the week. Is it possible to get the day of week? All the example I found, somehow rely on "date /t" to return "Friday, 12/11/2009", however, in my machine, "date /t" returns "12/11/2009". No weekday there. I've already checked the "regional settings" for my machine, and the long date format does include the weekday. The short date format doesn't, but i'd really rather not change that, since it'll affect a bunch of stuff I do. Any ideas here? Thanks! Daniel

  I wanted to know if someone got access to my server by using a nonroot account, how much damage can he do? After i su someuser I used this command to find all files and folders that are writeable. find / -writable >> list.txt Here is the result. Its most /dev/something and /proc/something and these /var/lock /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock /var/tmp /var/lib/php5 Is my system secure? /var/tmp makes sense but i am unsure why this user has write access to those folders. Should i change them? stat /var/lib/php5 gives me 1733 which is odd. Why write access? why no read? is this some kind of weird use of a temp file?

• How can I trace NTFS and Share Permissions to see why I can (or can't) write a file

  I'm trying to track down WHY I can write in a folder that, by my best estimation, I should not be able to write. The folder is shared with "Everyone" has "Full Control", with the files being more restrictive. My best guess is there's some sort of sub-group membership that's allowing me to write, but the nesting of groups that exists in our Active Directory is pretty extensive. Is there a tool, that will tell me which of the ACL entries allowed or disallowed my writing a file in a folder? The Effective Permissions dialog is marginally helpful, but what I need is something like a "NTFS ACL Trace Tool", if such a thing exists.

  Hi, I was hoping to get some help setting up Apache as a forward proxy, primarily just to know how it's done and for learning. I've found countless examples that look a lot like this: <IfModule mod_proxy> ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Allow from all </Proxy> But I'm not sure what to do with that information. What happens in the rest of the conf file? Do I just append it to the bottom and activate all the proxy modules? And if so, why isn't working when I try it with Firefox? Thanks

• How do I view the location of an swf file that is obfuscated somehow.

  Specifically, I'm trying to view Elmo's Keyboard-o-rama fullscreen. The original swf file has been moved and obscured. For a toddler, this game really needs to be full screen! The toddler doesn't mind too much and has already lost interest in the game for the day. But it's just driving me crazy. I've tried the usual method of viewing the page info in Firefox to no avail. And before people start trying to delete this for being game specific, I would like to know how to do this for any obfuscated swf location, not just games. Thanks in advance. If anybody knows how to find the appropriate information in tcpdump or wireshark, that could probably help, too. That's what I'm trying to do right now.

• I would like to burn a file to a virtual dvd.

  Hi, a program I am using tracks down my diskdrives and offers to write a dvd image to them. I would like to be able to write this image on HD in stead of on disk, but I have no option to browse the file system. Therefore I would like a virtual dvd disk, that is in fact a folder, but that is recognized by the app. as a real, empty dvd. I have tried MagicDisk, but it doesn't seem to offer the ability to couple an emulated disk drive to a folder...

  Whenever you use an Metro app and you want to import some files there is a little file browser. Like this: A lot of folders possible; however there is a folder that is very important: The personal Dropbox. How can I add this folder as a "favorite" in this view? Always browsing through the whole filesystem is slow in the Metro Interface. I realize I could make symlinks for all the typical Dropbox folders but that's simply annoying and there has to be another way (just like it's possible to "hack" the "Send To..." options for the context menu.

  I have a dump of thousands of small text files (1-5MB) large, each containing lines of text. I need to "batch" them up, so that each batch is of a fixed size - say 100MB, and compress that batch. Now that batch could be: A single file that is just a 'cat' of the contents of the individual text files, or Just the individual text files themselves Caveats: unix split -b will not work here as I need to keep lines of text intact. Using the lines option is a bit complicated as there is a large variance in the number of bytes in each line. The files need not be a fixed size strictly, as long as it's within 5% of the requested size The lines are critical, and should not be lost: I need to confirm that the input made its way to output without loss - what rolling checksum (something like CRC32, BUT better/"stronger" in face of collisions) A script should do nicely, but this seems like a task someone has done before, and it would be nice to see some code (preferably python or ruby) that does atleast something similar.

  Hi there, Opening a tab-delimited data file in Excel to view & manipulate the data is a very common operation around here. However, by default Excel (2003/4 or 2007/8) will read the columns in a "General" format, which occasionally does terrible things like turning "1/2" into "2-Jan". Is there a way to tell Excel never to do this, but always process the values as Text, without going through the format wizard, selecting all of the columns, and doing it manually? Extra points if this works in both Mac and Windows versions of Excel.

  First of all I can't detect the USB on linux using the command line. I check the directory dev and still cannot find the usb. used the df command to check the usb. I plug and typed df and then unplug and typed df again and nothing changed. We are using a server(telnet) to use the command line of linux on a windows 7 OS. The second problem I have is how can I execute the bash script that I have made. It seems that I cant put my .sh file in /usr/bin/ I would like to make my command executable in all directories like a normal command. Sorry, im still newbie at this things. • Internet Explorer8 on Windows 7 - file download results in "C:\ location not accessible."

  Ok, an odd problem. For one user on a Windows 7 x64 system, attempting to download a file with Internet Explorer 8 results in a error "C:\ location not accessible. Access is denied." even though the target location is not on the C:\ drive. No other users have the problem and no other browsers do. The user does not remember deleting any folders recently, and it looks like no new software has been installed. A checkdisk comes up clean. Any ideas? I also have a http://example.no-ip.org domain which contains some content I would like to appear under the same domain. Can I setup a .htaccess file at http://www.example.com/proxy/ which proxies the files at http://www.example.no-ip.org/files/ Similarly, could I host an entire domain in the same way?, e.g. http://www.example2.com/ proxying http://example.no-ip.org/files2/ Alternatively, if someone were to say "That's stupid, use this free (or super-cheap) dynamic DNS host:" I would probably accept that answer.

• Shares not working on boot need to reinstall "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on server every morning to fix

  I had a problem a few days ago see question here: Can no longer access computer or network shares to my server from any other computers on the network The fix that I found does in fact work however when I boot my PC in the morning the shares are no longer working, to fix this I need to remote desktop into the server and re-install "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" on the main adaptor. Doing this makes the shares work again, however it is anoying to have to do this each and every morning. On top of this my offline files are no longer available offline: I store my user profile on the server and had them selected to be "Always Available" however since this has happened they are no longer available offline and the option to make them available offline from the context menu is no longer available. Another problem, and I don't know if this is the cause or just a tell of a deeper issue but this server runs hyper-v, since these problems I can no longer remote desktop into the hyper-v client. • How do I restore a SQL Server database from last night's full backup and the active transaction log file?

  I have been told that it's good practise to keep your SQL Server data files and log files on physically separate disks, because it'll allow you to recover your data to the point of failure if the data drive fails. So... let's say that mydata.mdf is on drive D:, and my mydata_log.ldf is on drive E:, and it's 16:45, and drive D: has just died horribly. So - I have last night's full backup (mydata.bak). I have hourly transaction-log backups that will bring the data back up to 16:00... but that means I'll lose 45 minutes worth of updates. I still have mydata_log.ldf on the E: drive, which should contain EVERY transaction that was committed right up to the point where the drive failed. How do I go about recreating the database and restoring data from the backup file and the live transaction log, so I don't lose any updates? Is this possible?
