• Installed SQL Server 2008 and now TFS is broken.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Technical information (for administrator): TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service. So I head on over to my event viewer on the server. Under Application, I see one warning and two errors. • Port forwarding on Fortigate 50B

  I have serious problems setting up port forwarding on a Fortigate 50B. The unit is basically running as factory default, the wan1 interface is connected to my fibre optic internet modem, and my lan is connected to the internal switch of the Fortigate. The factory default firewall policy allowing traffic from the internal interface to wan1 is kept and I'm able to access the interet as normal. Then I added a virtual ip and a firewall policy for allowing access from the internet to my local servers (ip 192.168.9.51) webserver (standard port 80). The settings I made are as follows.   Our target server indicates it has hundreds of thousands of backlogged transactions. Our authoritative source server indicates it has no backlogged transactions. No replication is taking place. Tests with plain text files aren't replicating. dfsdiag propogation tests fail to propogate. I've restarted the DFS services. I've restarted the servers. I've created new DFS shares to test with. The authoritative source server indicates it has no backlogs and the target indicates it has backlogs (which are the files it's waiting to receive). Files don't replicate in either direction. 2x Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard servers One server is at each of two sites The DFSR shares are on each respective server \site_1_server_1\users \site_2_server_1\users The sites are connected by a T1 DFSR worked for a week. I added a new share, another folder on the same servers, and that replicated for a weekend but never finished. Then all replication stopped. Is Windows DFSR flaky? What tools should I use and what should I look at to identify what's causing this problem?

  I've read several guides on using DFS-R with WDS and MDT to replicate REMINST and DeploymentShare, and I have a particularly strange problem. On the receiving server, after configuring WDS and mounting the DeploymentShare into MDT's DeploymentWorkbench, I also performed the following: 1) in .\Control\Bootstrap.ini, changed DeployRoot to \%wdsserver%\DeploymentShare$ 2) Changed the UNC path at the root of the MDT Deployment Share in the DeploymentWorkbench to match that of the current server. 3) In Unattend.xml files located: .\Control**, modified the following value to match the current server: <cpi:offlineImage catelog://HOST/ I am able to boot and grab the LiteTouch PE image off the local WDS TFTP server, but the WIM files, the scripts, everything else is being pulled off the WDS server at the remote site (the original WDS server that was the source of the files within the DFS-R replicated folder). What do I do in order to solve this problem? I've grepped all the files below the DeploymentShare to look for instances of the hostname of the WDS server at the remote site (the source of the files), but I found none.   I have an external SMTP provider: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk I am trying to send SQL Server Reporting Services emails via this on an Windows 2012 Azure VM. It is configured sufficiently correctly for emails to be generated, but I've not configured something or mis-configured something as the emails then stay in the queue. Message delivery to the host '212.227.15.179' failed while delivering to the remote domain 'gmail.com' for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt. 7) tried pinging but this appears to be blocked on azure 8) tried more powershell sending on different domains variants (localhost, boxname, internal ip used in smtp properties, 127.0.0.1) - none resulting in success 9) tried adding a remote domain - no change Could anyone recommend what step 10 should be in fixing this issue please?

• Disable Java Hardware Acceleration in windows?

  I have some issues with my graphics card and I want to disable Hardware Acceleration for java apps. Everything that uses HA is displayed blurry. I've seen some tutorials on how to set this parameter -Dsun.java2d.d3d=false The problem is that the Java Control panel itself is using hardware acceleration and I cannot see anything in order to add this parameter. Edit: Went to java control panel in safe mode, added that parameter and problem continues.. • Sending microphone input over Remote Desktop 7.0

  I am using Remote Desktop 7 (the new version that came out with Windows 7) to control a Windows XP Pro machine. I have selected "Record from this computer" in the Remote Audio settings. When I connect to the machine, go to the control panel, open the sound panel, and go to the audio tab, I find that the default sound playback device is "Microsoft RDP Audio Driver". However, there is no default sound recording device. As expected, my IP phone thinks there is no recording device. If I am sitting in front of the computer with a mic plugged in, it works just fine. Has anybody else been able to get this work appropriately? Is there anything that I have to setup on the XP machine to get this working? Thanks in advance. Edit: As John T pointed out below, you have to be connecting to a Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate machine for this to work. I've also found out that Multi-monitor support has the same requirement.

When I start the client connect to the local DC and get an authentification error (Code 0x507). In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa In the details pane, right-click Security Packages, and then click Modify. In the Value data box, type tspkg. Leave any data that is specific to other SSPs, and then click OK. • How to resolve Windows Update Error 8024402F on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit?

  I have been having the same problem with Windows Updates on 2 of my machines at home, both running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. One of the 2 machines is a brand new install, the other has run Windows Update in the past, but is also not working now. When I manually check for updates using the Control Panel, I get error code 8024402F: I followed the link to "Get help with this error", which brings up several articles in Windows Help and Support, none of which are for this specific error code. From the help and general googling I've tried: Checking internet connectivity. Most of the help suggests that this error is caused by a general internet connectivity problem. But if you're reading this, my connection is definitely working fine. Disabling antivirus temporarily and trying to run Windows Update. This didn't help (I run AVG free) Running Control Panel - Troubleshooting - Security Systems - Fix Problems with Windows Update. This said it detected and resolved problems, but didn't help. Update using IE (as I used to in XP). Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ redirects me to http://test.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx for which IE displays a "connection problem" (i.e. site unreachable) I've had the same problem for 24 hours now, so surely the Windows Update servers haven't been down this whole time? A quick check on twitter shows no worldwide outcry about Windows Update being unavailable, so is it just me?   I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa 1538 laptops and installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (Kernel 2.6.32). Main problem is that the fans of the notebook are always on even when the temperature is low. Another problem is that the display brightness can not be adjusted. Since some years I use Dell laptops and never experienced any ACPI problems so I thought that it is no longer needed to fix ACPI tables but now I have this crap of a laptop and I think I have to do it. • Windows 7 Backup not backing up custom library?

  I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.) Right click on the profile in question, choose delete. Try backup again. This does not work for me. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

• KVM recommendations

  I recently tried out a cheaper KVM solution, a dual monitor one with a USB hub and audio/mic support. It seemed the perfect KVM. However, these are my experiences. When using my keyboard via the PS/2 connection, none of my multimedia keys work (useful, because it has a volume control and my speakers do not, only on a wireless remote control.) I plugged the keyboard in via the USB port - and it seemed to work. However, I believe to switch the hub from PC to Mac, you need to use a keyboard combo, which is only supported when the keyboard is plugged in via PS/2 Sometimes the middle mouse button doesn't work when connected via PS/2. The multi monitor is VGA - I just found out by the looks of things my Mac Mini outputs DVI Digital only (though this is my fault!). Mac works with 2 screens, but switching and switching back can cause it not to display on the 2nd screen unless I go detect displays again. My question is - is there a KVM out there that supports these features? USB keyboard and mouse inputs will full multimedia keys support Dual monitor DVI connections Hotkey to change PCs and physical button USB hub Emulate screens attached when switching to a different computer Works with PC and Mac Audio / Microphone support Does one exist, that won't cost the world? So far the only one that seems to support all this (that I can tell) is this one. UPDATE I ended up buying the Aten CS1642. It's expensive, but it seems to work great!

  I'm trying to watch ICMP redirects in a lab using Cisco Packet Tracer (version 5.3.2) and I'm not seeing them, which leads me to believe that either my lab configuration isn't correct or my understanding of ICMP redirects isn't correct or that Packet Tracer doesn't support/use ICMP redirects. Here's what I believe to be true regarding ICMP redirects: Routers send ICMP redirects when all of these conditions are met: The interface on which the packet comes into the router is the same interface on which the packet gets routed out. The subnet or network of the source IP address is on the same subnet or network of the next-hop IP address of the routed packet. The datagram is not source-routed. The router kernel is configured to send redirects. I have the lab set up in Cisco Packet Tracer as displayed in the image and would expect to see an ICMP redirect from Router1 when pinging from PC1 to PC3. I'm not seeing the ICMP redirect and it looks like Router1 is actually routing all of the packets via Router2. I have IP ICMP debugging enabled on Router1 (and Router2) and I'm not seeing any ICMP redirect activity in either console. I'm also not seeing a route to the PC3 network in the routing table on PC1, which I think confirms that the ICMP redirect is not occurring. I'm using only static routing on Routers 1 and 2. Is my understanding of ICMP redirects incorrect, or is there a problem with my lab configuration or does Packet Tracer not support/use ICMP redirects?

• IPMI not fucntioning with Network Bonding

  Hey, I am having problems with running IPMI on my servers that have network bonding enabled.   I have a VPS running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I'm able to connect using Remote Desktop from my home PC (Windows 7), personal laptop (Windows 7), and work laptop (Windows XP). However, I cannot connect from my work PC (Windows 7). I receive the error "The logon attempt failed" in the RDP client, and the server event log shows "An account failed to log on" with this explanation: Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: username Account Domain: hostname Failure Information: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. The server is part of a domain but my account is local, so I'm logging in using a username of the form hostname\username. None of the clients are part of a domain. The server uses a self-signed certificate, and connecting from home I get a warning about that, but connecting from work I just get the logon error.

The directory tmp exists but is not writable and could not be made writable. Public file system path: sites\default\files Temporary directory: tmp I have set permissions on folders C:\inetpub\wwwroot\tmp : IIS_IUSRS : Full control C:\inetpub\wwwroot\sites\default\files : IIS_IUSRS : Full control I am working as Administrator user: C:\Users\Administrator\Downloadsecho %username% Administrator I can`t change Read Only Attributes for these folders. Every time I do this change and press Apply button and Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files is checked and press OK button it displays Applying attributes... dialog when it finishing I press OK button on folder properties dialog closing it. When I open Properties dialog once again I see Read-only is checked again. How can I fix it?

We then proceeded to configure the job to use a service account instead. Service account was specified under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package Execution. The SharePoint domain is SHAREPOINT, and the domain with the users I want to give access to is COMPANY. I have provided them with a link to the site and added them as users via SharePoint, which is all I thought I would need to do. However, when they go to the link, the site shows them a SharePoint error page.
