• Monitoring File I/O on file Server.

  Is there a way to monitoring the file I/O on my file server. I want to gather some metrics on my current file system. I am running an old windows 2003 file server and I am planning on moving to a new file server running either windows server 2008 or 2012. I want to use these metrics and get a new file server that improve file I/O and access. Can some please advise me to what is the best way to monitor file access and get file I/O information so I can upgrade to a better file server.

• Searching for online database software/cms

  I am searching for a software or CMS that manages and displays large online databases, as some kind of frontend to MySQL or any other database. It should be accessible through the browser, be as secure as possible (offering login). The data I'd like to store would be personal information such as name, adress and birthday - also I'd need to be able to add custom fields as well. Also forms and the possibility to download the data in an excel? table would be great. PHPmyadmin is not an option, it should be similar to a CRM but more closely adapted to managing database tables, searching for entries and filtering data. It should be possible to have many user accounts with different rights, with each of them being able to acces certain parts of the data and entering own data. Is there something out there, that might get close to what I imagine? I appreciate any help!

• How to leverage the internal HTTP endpoint available on Azure web roles?

  Imagine you have a Web application using an in-memory collection that changes occasionally, loading it from storage on the Application_Start global.asax event and updating it whenever it changes. If you want to deploy this application on Azure you need to keep in mind that more than one instance of the application can be running at any time and therefore you need to provide some mechanism to keep all instances informed with the latest changes. Because that the communication through internal endpoints between Azure role instances is at no cost, a good solution can be maintaining the information on Azure Storage Tables, reading its contents on the Application_Start event and populating its changes to all instances using the internal HTTP port available on Azure Web Roles. You need to follow these steps to leverage the internal HTTP endpoint available on Azure web roles: 1.   Define an internal HTTP endpoint in the Web Role properties, for example InternalHttpEndpoint   2.   Add a new WCF service to the Web Role, for example NotificationServices.svc 3.   Add a method on the new service to receive notifications from other role instances. 4.   Declare a class that inherits from System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHostFactory and override the method CreateServiceHost to host the internal endpoint.   Note that you can use SecurityMode.None because the internal endpoint is private to the instances of the service, this is provided by the platform. 5.   Edit the markup of the service right clicking the svc file and selecting "View markup" to add the new factory as the factory to be used to create the service    6. Now you can notify changes to other instances using this code:

  I bought (and just received) a new 1u dell poweredge 860 (got it on ebay for $35). I finished installing Ubuntu Server (Ubuntu Server 12.04.3 LTS), install apache/mariadb/memcache/php5 works great but I am scared about security. so far I am the only one using the server but eventually more people (friends, friends of friends) will use this server, use ssh etc... I want to know what can I do to secure all the information and not get hacked, both from the web or ssh or ddos and any other attack possible. • Managing game objects/components

  Good day everyone, By far the biggest problem that has always dawned on my when programming games is how to structure my code. It just becomes an incredible mess after a while. The reason for that is because I have no idea how different classes should interact with each other. Let's have an example. Say I have a class Player, a class PlayerInput and a class Map. The player class contains information as to the location of the player, whereas the player input class handles changing that location, but by first making sure it's within a walkable area from the map class. How to structure this? My usual approach is to pass those components as parameters in the constructors of the parameters that need them, like so: var map = new Map(); var player = new Player(); var input = new PlayerInput(player, map); The problem with that is that it quickly gets messy, when you add new components you have to go through your constructors and update them, and it doesn't work well if you have mirroring references: var physics = new Physics(input); //Oops, doesn't work var input = new Input(physics); So, how do you guys usually manage this? • Can't access phpMyAdmin because of host, username and password

When I try to access phpMyAdmin on Uniform Server I get the following error messages: " #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) " " phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. " The funny thing is my username and password are both set to "root" and I have changed the IP address in the httpd.conf file to my Unique IP adddress, so I still don't know what the problem is. Could somebody please help me out? Any help would be much appreciated.

• How can I tell if a host is bridged and acting as a router

  I would like to scan my DMZ for hosts that are bridged between subnets and have routing enabled. Since I have everything from VMWare servers, to load balancers on the DMZ I'm unsure if every host is configured correctly. What IP, ICMP, or SNMP (etc) tricks can I use to poll the hosts and determine if the host is acting as a router? I'm assuming this test would presume I know the target IP, but in a large network with many subnets, I'd have to test many different combinations of networks and see if I get success. Here is one example (ping): For each IP in the DMZ, arp for the host MAC Send a ICMP reply message to that host directed at an online host on each subnet I think that there is a more optimal way to get the information, namely from within ICMP/IP itself, but I'm not sure what low level bits to look for. I would also be interested if it's possible to determine the "router" status without knowing the subnets that the host may be connected to. This would be useful to know when improving our security posture.

• Working Qt controls in a 3d environment

  I need some advice from a Qt expert. The background: I have a 3D engine (ogre3d) working in concert with Qt. The 3D Content is displayed in a widget (using a custom OS window in the client area). I'm able to overlay arbitrary Qt widgets onto the 3d world using the widget render() method and a shared bitmap. This makes a great "heads up display". I can use the standard Qt style sheets and animation using this technique. My goal I'd like to go a step further and allow the user to move these rendered widgets using the mouse. I'd like some advice on the best way to implement this. Possible solutions: The widgets in the HUD are not part of the inheritance chain. I render them manually. They don't get events though. I could add them to the inheritance chain so they get events in the usual way. Then I would need to change them to render to my shared bitmap instead of to the operating system. I looked at this once but couldn't find enough information to implement it. Capture mouse events in the 3D display widget and EMIT them to child controls. I basically create my own event handling chain. Any suggestions on how to implement this? I'm also considering switching to Qt5. I'm not sure how that might affect this decision.

  I'm currently having my internship at a elementary school. I got the task to setup users for some classes, with that I also need run Windows Update too. So I have been scanning Google for something that does this in vb.net since I have been coding some in that before. I din't find much on the subject except for "C:\Windows\System32\wuauclt.exe /detectnow" though when I run it it don't seem to do much. So the question is it there is any command or file you can run to make Windows download and install updates? To clarify it need to work on Windows 7, I'm also writing the program in .NET 3.5. • Problems with ATI propietary driver in Ubuntu 12.10, window trail and screen does not update

  I have problems with the Ati propietary driver (fglrx). I have an iMac (mid 2011) with a Radeon HD 6900M [1002:6720]. I did not have any problem under Ubuntu 12.04, but since I updated to 12.10, I get some annoying graphic corruption. The worst one is that sometimes the screen does not update with the new information. It happens a lot when I change between tabs in Chrome or Sublime Text. It usually gets updated when I scroll the page. Sometimes, when I type, I have to wait a little bit to view the new characters. And I get trails when I move windows too (like a part of the window). After a while, the trail disappears. I tried to install fglrx, fglrx-updates and the new beta driver downloaded from Ati (12.11 Beta 11/16/2012), with no luck. It happens the same with all of them. I tried to mess with Compiz config, but it didn't fix anything. The open source driver does not suffer this problem, but I need the performance of the propietary driver . Do you have clue? Thanks.

• Extremely slow desktop and laggy. Need help with graphics driver

  I am a fresh newbie Ubuntu user and I just installed my first Ubuntu 13.04 onto my HP Slate 2. I did a liveCD on my USB drive and installed everything perfectly fine...nice and smooth, not a trace of lag. Then I rebooted using Ubuntu itself on the computer, it was extremely slow and laggy. Icons or any buttons doesn't trigger right away, the performance of the entire thing looks like either 0.25 fps to 1 fps. My HP Slate 2 information: Processor: Intel Atom Z670 1.5Ghz Memory Ram: 2.0 GB Videocard: Intel GMA 600 (PowerVr SGX535) SolidStateDrive(SSD): 32GB I tried installing the intel linux graphics driver and it failed to install because it said I don't have any intel based graphics card. Well...I do as you see above. What can I do? I can't get on the internet on it, I'm using my primary computer (Windows 7) to do all the searchings and put the files onto the USB to move it over to my tablet. Simply...I don't get it...using liveCD on USB, it was all nice and smooth...then after the installation...BOOM! Slow, laggy, and etc. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

• Exchange stops working after changing System Time

  I am currently in a situation where the system time of my windows machine differs 6 hours from the actual local time. I tried chaning the system time of my windows machine 6 hours back to match the actual local time. The issue is, when the system time is changed, Exchange stops working as it wont start anymore. When i change the time back Exchange works again. Here is the error that it shows when im trying to open the management console after changing the system time. The Follwing error occured while attempting to connect to the specified server "servername". The attempt to connect to http://servername/PowerShell using "Kerberos" authentication failed: Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message: Access is denied. • Cannot Ping PS3 Using a Wired Connection

  PS3 is using the inbuilt wireless network adapter (I cannot change this) When I try to ping the PS3 from ANY computer which is on a wired ethernet connection, I get Request Timed Out errors. Whenever I ping from a computer with a wireless connection, it works just fine. To be clear: Pinging from Wireless PC to Wireless PS3 works Pinging from Wired PC to Wireless PS3 fails I have tried this on several PC's and Laptops all with the same results. As an attempted solution I have set up static IP's on all related devices. More information: Default Gateway = 192.168.2.1 PS3(wireless) = 192.168.2.100 PC(wired) = 192.168.2.99 Subnet Mask(for both devices, I have made sure) = 255.255.255.0 Thanks

• How do I reduce RAM usage on my server?

  I have recently launched a site that is very popular but I am having trouble with scalability. My site makes heavy use of FFmpeg and at peak times RAM usage hits the 2 GB point quickly and the swap file starts getting used. CPU usage starts rising too. Users complain that the site is slow. They say this because all FFmpeg instances run very slow because of the number running at the same time. Users make use of FFmpeg on my server in real time. Is there anything I can consider or do to ease down the usage of the server and RAM just shooting up? Maybe there is something better than FFmpeg (!). Is the only solution "throwing some cash" at a more powerful server? I have given little information, please ask for more, so this problem can be solved.

• xenserver: xe command never returns?

  I'm trying to port a xen server 6.2 pool to a new IP address range. I've got three servers total: 2 currently at their new IP but no longer in the pool and one remaining. I'm trying to set IP address information on the two disconnected ones using the xe command and all of its variants. Oddly enough, it never returns with any values. xe host-list It just sits there until I ctrl-c it. The server is still awake and responding though. I can enter other commands (EG ifconfig) and they work fine. If I enter this same command on the remaining server in the pool it works ok. I've tried restarting the toolstack and even rebooting. No change. What am I doing wrong?

• How to dual boot Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows XP sp3 on Dell Dimension 8250 desktop using 2 hard drives

  I'd like instructions to dual boot Ubuntu 12.10 and Windows XP (sp3) on my desktop Dell Dimension 8250 (this is old and has 1.5 GB RAM which is maximum). I will be using 2 hard drives. Windows XP is already on a 120 GB drive and and Ubuntu 12.10 will go on a separate 80 GB hard drive. Both drives are IDE using a 80 conductor cable where the 40 pin blue connector connects to the motherboard. The middle connector is gray and is "normally" used for slave (device 1) and the black connector at the very end of the cable is meant for the master drive (device 0) or a single drive if only one is used. First, I do not wish the XP drive to have its boot modified by Ubuntu in any way. It should remain untouched...virgin. Let me know where the XP drive and the Ubuntu drive should be connected based upon the cable I've mentioned above, as well as jumper settings for both during the whole process. I'm just guessing, but should I remove the XP drive and put the empty Ubuntu drive in its place and install Ubuntu? By the way, I already have made the DVD ISO disk. For your information, the BIOS for this machine is version A03. When I tap F12 to get to the boot menu, I have the following choices: Normal (this will take me to a black screen with white type giving me the choice to boot to XP or to my external USB backup recovery drive) Diskette Drive Hard-Disk Drive c: IDE CD-ROM Drive (Note that if the CD Drive is empty, it will then go to the DVD drive) System Setup IDE Drive Diagnostics Boot to Utility Partition (This is Dell's various testing utilities) Thank you in advance for your help. • Activating ssl on tomcat

  I want to encrypt the http traffic on a tomcat instance via ssl. Therefore I followed the most simplistic approach described on various webpages. But anyway it simply does not work. Here is what I did: "keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA" and I enterd "changeit" as the password (since this is the defaut chosen by tomcat) Altering $CATALINA_HOME/conf/servers.xml by uncommenting the following line Connector port="8443" protocol="HTTP/1.1" SSLEnabled="true" maxThreads="150" scheme="https" secure="true" clientAuth="false" sslProtocol="TLS"/ Restarting tomcat Entering https://localhost:8443 does not work. However, I can still access the page via normal http like http://localhost:8080 The logfile does not contain any suspicious information. What is going wrong here?

• Site on IIS 7.5 accessible via SSL on server, but not from local network

  I have a site set up on IIS 7.5. I added the following binding... type: https Host Name: [Blank] Port: 443 IP Address: 192.168.1.6 Binding Information: [Blank] I can access the site via https://192.168.1.6 from the server itself. When I try to access the site from another machine (193.168.1.4) on the same sub-net via https://192.168.1.6 I get no response. http://192.168.1.6 returns the site as expected. I have used wireshark to examine the packets on the server, the first of which I have included as an image. There were two other packets, very similar to this. There was no response from the server. Any Ideas?
