But whether you are a graduate fresh out of college or seasoned in the workplace, recruiters are also looking for generic skills and attitude to see whether you are a good fit to the company. So make sure you prepare and show through examples that you have these skills. 1. Drive/passion Liking the job you are applying for is paramount and something recruiters are always looking for. Show and prove your drive for the role and/or the field you are applying for. Always be prepared to pitch yourself, this shows your drive in the role you are applying for. 2. Communication skills People often make the mistake by thinking this skill is related to how good they are able to talk about their background and expertise. This is important, but as least as important is it that you listen well to questions that are asked. Make sure you answer to the point and ask questions if you want questions to be clarified. This shows your interest in the role and the ability to communicate clearly. This also helps you building trust with the recruiter every time you speak to him/her. 3. Confidence Recruiters are looking for the best candidate for the job. So if you don’t think you are the best candidate why should the recruiter? Show with confidence, without being arrogant (think about building trust), why you are the right person for the job. Confidence also shows in your answers to difficult questions. Be confident enough to explain why some experiences went wrong and how you learnt from them. If you don’t have a direct explanation on a question, it is better to ask for a second to think instead of a random answer. 4. Vision The main reason to hire graduates for many companies is that graduates are perceived to be flexible. The organisation will train and up skill you in the direction best suitable for the organisation. However the most intense learning path is realised when you also know where you want to go. Companies are often happy to accommodate you to support with training and development, but if you don’t have a clear vision on what you want to achieve for yourself and what value you bring to the company, recruiters can decide you are not the right candidate as they are afraid you aren’t going to stay in the company. 5. Business awareness For every job you apply you will get challenged on your knowledge and interest for the market and business they are in. • Issues POSTing XML to OAuth and Signature Invalid with Ruby OAuth Gem

I authenticate fine, I store and retrieve the token/secret for a given user with no problem, I can even make GET requests to a number of services using the gem. But when I try using the one service I need POST for, I'm getting a 401 "invalid signature" response. • Can dummy objects be simulated on iphone?

  I come from 3D animation and one of the basic things all 3D software have is the ability to create dummy objects. Dummy objects can be used to groups objects that can be rotated, moved or scaled together around a specific anchor point. This is the idea of what I am asking. Obviously we can have fake dummies by using a view and put other views as subviews, but this has problems as the view receives clicks and sometimes you don't want it to do so. You cannot change the anchorpoint of a view too. So, the dummies as I ask have, at least, these properties: adjustable anchor point it is not clickable it is totally invisible (cannot be rendered). any scale, rotation and translation of a dummy are propagated to the grouped objects considering the dummy's anchor point. it is totally animatable. Can this be simulated on iPhone? Is there any object that can be created to simulate this? thanks.

  I have a triangle in (u,v) coordinates in an image. I would like to draw this triangle at 3D coordinates (X,Y,Z) texture-mapped with the triangle in the image. Here, u,v,X,Y,Z are all vectors with three elements representing the three corners of the triangle. I have a very ugly, slow and unsatisfactory solution in which I (1) extract a rectangular part of the image, (2) transform it to 3D space with the transformation defined by the three points, (3) draw it with surface, and (4) finally masking out everything that is not part of the triangle with AlphaData. Surely there must be an easier way of doing this?

  Hi, a friend of mine uses SCILAB for doing his mathematicall "homework" for his studies and he told me, that it should be possible to use JAVA-sourcecode diretly in SCILAB. The background is that I presented my current JAVA project and I would like to plot this in 3d, but I haven't done graphical output so far. And he proposed to let SCILAB do the 3d plotting, because there are some ready to use plot scemes implented. But he couldn't tell me how to achive this, so that's why I'm here :). So my first question is, IF this is possible to directly use JAVA-Source code in SCILAB or at least to some kind of connection between both? And how this is done! :) Thank you in advance, Andreas

I know the industry's standard language is C++, for 3D graphics the main choice is between Direct 3D and OpenGL, but what is the most widely used GUI framework? I'm currently on a Mac so if native Windows API is the answer, then what is the cross platform choice?   I developed a C# application that makes use of Congex vision library (VPro). My application is developed with Visual Studio 2008 Pro on a 32bit Windows PC with 3GB of RAM. During the startup of application I see that a large amount of memory is allocated. So far so good, but when I add many and many vision elaboration the memory allocation increases and a part of application (only Cognex OCX) stops working well. The rest of application stills to work (working threads, com on socket....) I did whatever I could to save memory, but when the memory allocated is about 700MB I begin to have the problems. A note on the documentation of Cognex library tells that /LARGEADDRESSWARE is not supported. Anyway I'm thinking to try the migration of my app on win64 but what do I have to do? Can I simply use a processor with 64bit and windows 64bit without recompiling my application that would remain a 32bit application to take advantage of 64bit ? Or I should recompile my application ? If I don't need to recompile my application, can I link it with 64bit Congnex library? If I have to recompile my application, is it possible to cross compile the application so that my develop suite is on a 32bit PC? Every help will be very appreciated!! Thank in advance

• OpenMP + SSE gives no speedup

  Hi, My Professor found out this interesting experiment of 3D Linearly separable Kernel Convolution using SSE and OpenMP, and gave the task to me to benchmark the statistics on our system. The author claims a crazy 18 fold speedup from the serial approach! Might not be always, but we were expecting at least a 2-4 times speedup running this on a Dual Core Intel. http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/16bit-3d-convolution-sse4openmp-implementation-on-penryn-cpu/#comment-41994 Alas, we could find exactly no speedup. The serial code performs always better, with or without OpenMP. I am using Linux, and observed a certain trend...when no other processes are running on the system, after a while the loadavg starts increasing, and the the %CPU utilization falls down. Another probable false positive which I ran into accidentally...I started the program, then immediately paused it. Then I ran it on background with bg, and saw a speedup of more than 2. • What are some techniques to create scrollable areas?

  I'm getting started with OpenGL ES on Android and I'd looking to learn some techniques to have a game map larger than the visible area. I'm assuming I've somehow got to ensure that the system isn't rendering the entire scene, including what's outside of the visible area. I'm just not sure how I'd go about designing this! This is for simple 2D top-down tile based rendering. No real 3D except what's inherent in OpenGL ES itself. Would anyone be able to get me started on the right path? Are there options that might scale nicely when I decide to start tilting my perspective and doing 3D?

• Jagged Edge Arrays in PHP

  I want to store some data in (I guess a semi-2, semi-3d array) in PHP (5.3) What I need to do is store data about each floor like this: Floor Num of Spots Handicap Motorcyle Other 1 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) 2 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) and on The problem is, is if the Handicap+Motorcyle+Other were ints, I could just store the data in a 2d array. However, they aren't. So I was thinking I could make something almost like a 3D array, with the first two columns only being in 2D. The other thought I had was making a 2D array and for columns 3,4, and 5 instead of saving as array(15,16) //save like 1516 And then split at two digits (1 digit array numbers would be prefaced with a 0). However, I am wondering about the limit of the length of a string, because if I decide to move to a 3 digit length number in the array, like array(100, 104), and I need to store alot of numbers, I am thinking I am going to quickly exceed the max.

• Which is a better option, OpenGL or a game engine for developing a game for the iphone or ipod touch

  I am new to OpenGL ES, and I'm about to begin a 3D game for the iphone in which we are showing some car pursuit or racing. Is it possible just with the OpenGL ES or UIKit only, or do I have to use other tools for it? I am comfortable with UIKit but newer to OpenGL/OpenGL ES; which would be better to start this game? Or should I use a game engine? If so, then which game engine would give us the 3D feeling, quality of images and motion, and rendering of the views with the sound effects?

• weird characters in HTML email

  Hi stackers! I'm reading email from a maildir and some emails have weird sets of characters in them: =3D =09 I think =3D is = and =09 is a space. There are some others, but I'm not sure: =E2 =80 =93 Does anyone know what these are and what encoding issues I'm dealing with here? BTW, I tried fetching these email via POP3 and it's the same thing. The reason I'm posting this on SO is not because I'm using a regular mail client to read the data. I'm reading via PHP out of maildir files. Perhaps a regular email client would detect what encoding this is and deal with it. Thanks!

• Is MacBook powerful enough to do Ipad development? or do I need a MacBook Pro?

  The title probably says it all. Considering an ipad's processor is nothing compared to a macbook, I would think a Macbook should be more than capable to run the simulator. However, not knowing much about iphone/ipad development, I'd like to get some opinions on this. for e.g. how many apps are typically need to be run for ipad dev (editor, debugger, perf monitor, trace log, etc). are these apps resource (memory, cpu) intensive? please do not take into consideration the actual image, 3d, video, sound development. I understand one would need quite a beefy machine to produce these type of creative assets. What I'm looking at is a machine to do code development, physics, putting together the produced assets (images, vector graphics, 3d video, sound, etc).

So then, I may want some summary statistics about each group in SNP1: "AA", "Aa", "aa".
