    I'm trying to calculate somebody's bowel health based on a points system. I can edit the data structure, or logic in any way. I'm just trying to write a function and data structure to handle this ability. Pseudo calculator function: // Bowel health calculator var points = 0; If age is from 30 and 34: points += 1 If age is from 35 and 40: points += 2 If daily BMs is from 1 and 3: points -= 1 If daily BMs is from 4 and 6: points -= 2 return points; Pseudo data structure: var points_map = { age: { '30-34': 1, '35-40': 2 }, dbm: { '1-3': -1, '4-6': -2 } }; I have a full spreadsheet of data like this, and I am trying to write a DRY version of code and a DRY version of this data (ie, probably not a string for the '30-34', etc) in order to handle this sort of thing without a humongous number of switch statements.

  • Is it better to adopt the same technologies used at work to be effective on your home projects ?

    Is it better to start developing an home project using the same technologies used at work to be more productive and effective? I'm not talking about a simple hello world web page but an home project with all bells and whistles that one day, maybe, you could sell on internet. This dilemma is often subject of flames between me and a friend. He thinks that if you want to make a great home-made project you need to use the same technologies used daily at work staying in the same scope too; for example, a c++ computer game programmer should develope an home-made c++ game. I'm pretty sure that developing using the same technologies used at work can be more productive at beginning, but surely less exciting and stimulating of working with other languages\ides\libraries out of your daily job. What's your opinion about that?

  • PHP: How to read email attachment

    What I have: A person daily send to me an email, which has a zip'ed XML attachment. What I do: I save that attachment, unpack it and import via XML importerer to my web site. What I need: Automatic script, what I can automatically forward my email to ex.: [email protected] and read that attachment via some php file in my website, which maybe will be activated daily via server cronjob. Is it possible to code this? And maybe someone has any pre-coded scripts. Thanks for answers.

    Hello everyone, I have two SQL Server 2008 Enterprise databases (on two machines), and one of the databases is master database and another database is slave database (master database is read/write, slave database is readonly). I want to have daily update from master database to slave database (i.e. new data inserted/updated/deleted in master database could be synchronized to slave database daily or manually controlled). I only need to sync several tables of the databases, not all of the database. Any solutions or documents? thanks in advance, George

Currently, checkboxes are processed as an array and values are separated by a ";" As such: <input type="checkbox" name="frequency[]" value="Daily"/> Daily <input type="checkbox" name="frequency[]" value="Weekly"/> Weekly <input type="checkbox" name="frequency[]" value="Monthly"/> Monthly The PHP backend runs implode(';', $frequency) and adds the string to the database. This works fine but it's a nightmare when it comes to searching. Is there a better way to approach this?

  • Architecture for analysing search result impressions/clicks to improve future searches

    We have a large database of items (10m+) stored in MySQL and intend to implement search on metadata on these items, taking advantage of something like Sphinx. The dataset will be changing slightly on a daily basis so Sphinx will be re-indexing daily. However we want the algorithm to self-learn and improve search results by analysing impression and click data so that we provide better results for our customers on that search term, and possibly other similar search terms too. I've been reading up on Hadoop and it seems like it has the potential to crunch all this data, although I'm still unsure how to approach it. Amazon has tutorials for compiling impression vs click data using MapReduce but I can't see how to get this data in a useable format. My idea is that when a search term comes in I query Sphinx to get all the matching items from the dataset, then query the analytics (compiled on an hourly basis or similar) so that we know the most popular items for that search term, then cache the final results using something like Memcached, Membase or similar. Am I along the right lines here?

    Can anybody help me with the syntax? insert into history (company,partnumber,price) values ('blah','IFS0090','0.00') if company NOT IN ('blah','blah2','blah3','blah4','blah4') and partnumber='IFS0090'; Background: I have a history table which stores daily company, products and prices. But sometimes a company will remove itself for a few days. Complicating the issue is because I'm only saving daily CHANGES to prices only and not snapshotting the entire days list (the data would be huge) when I display the data the company will still come up for the previous days price. So I need to do something like this, where a 0.00 price means they're no longer there.

    I have a database with details of daily sales. To query a database, I have a form in a view with parameters that will query as date of admission, client and others. The result is shown in another view with the daily details of income, and below is a summary of the article do all entered. The summary I wish to transfer to another view, try to view :: composer but only transfer the empty query (I saw it with debug bar). Just appeared an empty view. How I can transfer data from the database without the latter view is empty? The second html view is totaly diferent , only the data is the same.

  • My Ubuntu Touch seems to be broken no matter how many different files I try

    So I'm planning on testing out Ubuntu Touch, and developing some applications for it so I thought I would flash it to my Nexus 4 that was already unlocked, and running Paranoid Android and the kernel associated. I headed to Ubuntu's website, browsed around and came across this page: Touch/Install - Ubuntu Wiki I followed Step 1 perfectly, word by word. Its seems to me that everything on that part is fine. I skipped Step 2 having already done that for Paranoid Android, and then I follow 3 and 4 word to word also. Using the command phablet-flash -b everything seemed to be fine. So it booted up and all seemed normal, but it wasn't. Here are some major bugs that only seem to happen to me. So I was greeted with a normal lock screen: But one of the first noticable things on the home screen is that I only have 4 tabs, not 5: Some of the applications that are supposed to work do not (I know some are dummies) like here with the calculator, this is what I get: On the homescreen it is a black box, it will crash a couple of seconds later: Another annoying problem is that when I want to close apps, I have from right to left, if I close an app on the left first it will close it, but it will open the app to it's right, weird: Yet another bug, this one is in the pull down drawer, when you just click on it, you can see that not all the icons are there: Pretty much everything else works as it should, but my main problem is that there is no telephony, I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I'm never asked a SIM code (I'm guessing you need that?), I can't compose SMS's and can't dial numbers, it won't let me select the 'Send' or 'Call' button. I've after tried manual installs all over the place with these files: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/daily-preinstalled/current/saucy-preinstalled-armel+mako.zip (Says 44MB on site - 46.6MB on my laptop) http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/daily-preinstalled/current/saucy-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (Says 366MB on site - 383.2MB on my laptop) There are some weird size differences between what the site told me and what I downloaded, but I've tried re-downloading just to end up with the same file. And it just alway ends up with the same problems. No telephony and those weird bugs. So my question is, how the hell can I get the same version as everyone else, with the ability to send texts and call and open the calculator and more?   • Dell XPS 15 (L502x) sound problem

    I have a problem with my sound on my Dell XPS 15. First, when I had Windows 7, my sound was pretty good (I have a JBL 2.1 speaker system with Waves Maxx audio), but since I installed Ubuntu 12.04 it sounded very cheap and as if I put my laptop in a tin can.
