  I am trying to access the "MYSQL" database tables to create a GUI for adding users and privileges. Doing this, I have run into my first NHibernate problem. How do i map MySQL Enum's to a C# Boolean? Or if not possible then to at least a Enum? The database fields are delcared as enum('N', 'Y') These are all of the privilege fields in the database. Now is there anyway of getting this into an enum or even better, boolean in C#/NHibernate? Edit #1: In C# if I need to declare an enum it will be the following: enum YesNoEnum { Yes, No }

• How to set the URL of a link to a variable using WATIR

  Using WATIR and Excel, I'd like to take the first row of a table in Excel, visit the URL, then set the 12th link on the page as a variable in the cell next to the cell with the URL, then go to the next line and repeat. I'm stuck on getting the URL of the 12th link on the page to set as a variable that I can feed into the next cell in Excel. • Avoiding configSections in .NET app.config files

  I'm looking for a way to avoid declaring my configuration section in the configSections inside the App.config file. Basically, I want to specify my configuration information just like I do for built-in .NET systems. For instance, when configuring WCF, I just put stuff in the <system.serviceModel>, I don't have to declare a section in the configSections up top. The same thing applies for <system.diagnostics> and many other namespaces. I know I could just load it up as an XML file and parse through it, but I'd prefer to stick with the pattern if possible. Moreover, looking at the WCF configuration with Reflector, I notice that it uses the same configuration subsystem (defined in System.Configuration). If you're wondering why this is important, it's because it's confusing our IT people. If it were self contained in one place, it would be much easier on them. I also realize I'll lose the ability to have multiple of the same section type, but that's not important in our case.

• Pass Session data to a Class Library without using a bunch of constructors?

  Hi all, I've got my application here where literally every object has a lastUpdatedBy property. The information I put into here is the person's username, which is retrieved from the session("username") variable. How can I pass this data to my DAL in the class library? At first I was just passing in the value into each method, but this is ridiculous I thought, there should be no reason to do that every time a method is called. Then I thought well if I just put it in a constructor for each of the DAL related classes, that will make it even easier. However, even still on any given page, I've got a plethora of New() declarations, for which every single line I need to pass in the session username casted as a string. Is there an even still more efficient way of doing this so that I could only declare this in one place, and everything will know what it is and I can pass it to classes in a class library?

• Objective-C NSString Assignment Problem

  In my Cocoa application, in the header file, I declare a NSString ivar: NSString *gSdkPath; Then, in awakeFromNib, I assign it to a value: gSdkPath = @"hello"; Later, it's value is changed in the code: gSdkPath = [NSString stringWithString:[folderNames objectAtIndex:0]]; (the object returned from objectAtIndex is an NSString) However, after this point, in another method when I try to NSLog() (or do anything with) the gSdkPath variable, the app crashes. I'm sure this has something to do with memory management, but I'm beginning with Cocoa and not sure exactly how this all works. Thanks for any help in advance.

  So I'm creating a plugin for Ruby on Rails to make implemented addresses including country, state, city, and zip_code for countries that can follow that paradigm a lot easier but that's beside the point expect for how the address model is associated. So starting with my address model. class Address < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :country has_one :state has_one :city has_one :zip_code end What's the difference between saying belongs_to and has_one Seems to be the same thing because both only require one model to declare ownership and foreign_key And it also seems that both are logical to say. an address belongs to an account and an account has one address Is this only semantics or is there are real difference

  Hello everyone, I want to count the number of accounts from the resulting table generated from this code. This way, I know how many people liked blue at one time. Select Distinct PEOPLE.FullName, PEOPLE.FavColor From PEOPLE Where FavColor='Blue' Lets say this is a history accounting of what people said their favorite color when they were asked so there may be multiple records of the same full name if asked again at a much later time; hence the distinct. The code I used may not be reusable in your answer so feel free to use what you think can work. I am sure I found a possible solution to my problem using declare and if statements but I lost that page... so I am left with no solution. However, I think there is a way to do it without using conditionals which is what I am asking and rather have. Thanks. Edit: My question is: From the code above, is there a way to count the number of accounts in the resulting table?

  Hello, I am new to using the geography types in SQL Server 2008. I have a table in my database called "Location". "Location" has the following columns and types: Location -------- City nvarchar(256) State nvarchar(256) PostalCode nvarchar(25) Latitude decimal(9, 6) Longitude decimal(9, 6) Each Location is related to a Store record in my database. I am trying to find the stores within a 10 mile radius or postal code or city/state that a user enters. To accomplish this, I know that I need to rely on geographies. At this time I have: DECLARE @startingPoint geography; SET @startingPoint=geography::STGeomFromText('POINT(-122.34900 47.65100)', 4326); That gives me the starting point from a hard-coded textual value. However, I do not know how to convert a lat/long from my Location table into a geography instance. How do I convert a lat/long in my database to a geography instance so I can continue to work on my query? Thank you!

How can I be sure that if I declare something like "int j = 5;", j will alway be 5? Is there a way to measure trust in a standard x86 computer system? What kind of protections are there to make sure that j = 5? I'm thinking about critical systems where nothing can be off even by one bit and everything must run exactly the way it was written to run.

It seems that I get weird results when I run my program. But if I declare the float foo[10] to be const and initialize it in the declaration, I get correct results. Why is this happening?

  I want to do a simple PL/SQL program on the Oracle 10g internet environment. The issue is that when I want to run this in the SQL command window I got this message: ORA-06550: line 3, column 11: PLS-00215: String length constraints must be in range (1 .. 32767) I have checked the syntax and I cannot find the error.   Using c# 4.0 -- building an interface and a class that implements the interface. I want to declare an optional parameter in the interface and have it be reflected in the class. So, I have the following: public interface IFoo { void Bar(int i, int j=0); } public class Foo { void Bar(int i, int j=0) { // do stuff } } This compiles, but it doesn't look right. The interface needs to have the optional parameters, because otherwise it doesn't reflect correctly in the interface method signature. Should I skip the optional parameter and just use a nullable type? Or will this work as intended with no side effects or consequences?

  Hi Experts, I had a Ribbon like custom control. I created an application using this control. These applications work fine until I change the system number format. They crashes if I change the system number format like below: Current Format = English (United State) Decimal symbol = ',' Digit group symbol = '.' When I run applications, they throw an exception "Input string not in Correct format". . Some other applications specify the Exception's message = "Input string '0,2,0,2' was not a correct format", so I think in Wpf ES's xaml files, we may declare some properties i.e Padding, Margin like "0,2,0,2" = that will cause errors with the system number format above. I have note that this error only occurs in Windows Vista, it does not occurs on Windows XP. I do not know why? From each one of those derived Classes, there are further more two classes are derived each called ChildClassAA and ChildClassAB[AB stands for Bth Child class from the Ath Class.Lets not really pull our hair on this nomenclature]. • F# powerpack and distribution

  I need arbitrary precision rational numbers, which I'm given to understand are available in the F# powerpack. My question is about the mechanics of distribution; my program needs to be able to compile and run both on Windows/.Net and Linux/Mono at least, since I have potential users on both platforms. As I understand it, the best procedure is: Download the powerpack .zip, not the installer. Copy the DLL into my program directory. Copy the accompanying license file into my program directory, to make sure everything is above board. Declare references and go ahead and use the functions I need. Ship the above files along with my source and binary, and since the DLL uses byte code, it will work fine on any platform. Is this the correct procedure? Am I missing anything?

  Application we developed fills MS Word templates with data from Database. Customers require to have ability edit Word templates via MS Word (change style, font, layout e.t.c) with no additional software to be installed and no training. AFAIK, Sql Reporting Services and Crystal Reports can't populate MS Word templates produced in MS Word. So we implemented our custom solution that maps .net classes onto xml-saved MS Word documents. It looks like we declare class MyTemplate { // maps to [age] field declared in ms document straight in the text int Age { get; set; } // maps to table by attributes applied to property (omitted) List<Person> Persons { get; set; } } We also implemented images insertion.   I have a class UserControlBase that inherits System.Web.UI.UserControl and my user controls inherit UserControlBase class. UserControlBase has some common functions that are used in all user controls. I want to put error display funtion to UserControlBase as well so that I may not have to declare and manage it in all user controls. Error will be displayed in some label in usercontrol. Issue is how to access label which is in usercontrol in UserControlBase in function ? I dont want to pass label as argument. Please guide me on this issue. thanks

  Duplicate Should identifiers and comments be always in English or in the native language of the application and developers? For people who are not native English speakers, which language do you use to declare variables, classes, etc. ? I had to continue a project from a Spanish guy. Everything was written in Spanish. Since this time, I have decided to use English identifiers ( variables, classes, file names) and write comments in french. Everything was in french before that. What are the general recommendations about that practice? Do you use English everywhere knowing that no English people will work on your project ?
