• Finding out what user Apache is running as?

  I want to secure a file upload directory on my server as described beautifully here, but I have one problem before I can follow these instructions. I don't know what user Apache is running as. I've found a suggestion that you can look in httpd.conf and there will be a "User" line, but there is no such line in my httpd.conf file, so I guess Apache is running as the default user. I can't find out what that is, though. So, my question is (are): how do I find out what the default user is do I need to change the default user if the answer is yes and I change the default user by editing httpd.conf, is it likely to screw anything up? Thanks! ----- UPDATE ------ Seems to have been answered here. Sorry, I got told off on StackOverflow and told to post it here, then posted it here, then it got answered on StackOverflow anyway!

• Apache Slow Over http, Fast Over https

  I have an Apache server running Debian. I am having this very strange situation where loading a page takes about 2 to 3 times longer to load over http than https. The primary use of the website is Magento, but I am seeing similar results with other things that we have loaded on the website. I don't have the first clue where to even look on our server or what the problem could be. Does anyone have any insight as to what could be going on or where to look. Josh

  I have a user named 'user' which I use to login to the ftp of my website. However, this presents me with a problem. If I want to allow my user to access to ftp, I have to typ the following: chown -R user:ftpusers /var/www/ By doing this, my website is no longer available when surfing to it. To make it available again, I have to typ the following command: chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www/ the user 'user' is in both the ftpusers and www-data group. How can I fix this so I wouldn't have to typ this anymore? I'm using apache2 and vsftpd on ubuntu

• computer and User Account Migrated using ADMT but not sending mail

  I have successfully migrated a User and Computer account using ADMT. The user is able to login to the computer with the new account and is able to open outlook receive mail but is not able to send internal or external mail. The Exchange server is still in the Old domain. The bounce back message received was that the user doesn't have permissions to send to the recipient. When I migrated the user I did migrate the SID history so why is mail not being about to be sent? The body of the bounce back message is as follows: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. • Lubuntu Desktop messed up for logged in user, but not for guest

  I recently upgraded my laptop from Lubuntu 12.04 to 14.04.1 and the upgrade process seemed to go fine. However, when I went to login as my normal user, I encountered an issue. The background loaded up, but none of LXDE or LXPanel showed up, leaving me with an empty desktop and nothing else except two errors. I thought that this was weird, so I just figured something had been messed up and would be fixed by a reboot. But it wasn't. I then tried logging in as guest, and it's just fine. I checked the ~/.xsession-errors file (for my main user, not guest, did it via TTY1) and this is what I got: Script for ibus started at run_im. Script for auto started at run_im. Should that be root or something else, or should I try deleting that and ~/.profile.   I hope I'm not asking a question for which the answer is obvious...If I am, apologies. Within my html site (i.e. not Wordpress, Joomla, etc.) I want to be able to have a level of user management. That means that some pages I want to be only accessible to certain people with the correct username and password. What's the best way to do this? Are there any available scripts out there? In read benchmark, results are similar: dd of=/dev/null if=DD bs=8M count=10000 iflag=direct 10000+0 records in 10000+0 records out 83886080000 bytes (84 GB) copied, 79,5918 s, 1,1 GB/s If remove iflag=direct obtain 150MB/s... I don't understand this huge differences, on other machines y don't have this behavior. Can I have some kernel parameter misconfigured? Thanks!

• Fast swapping of production and staging in IIS

  I'm using IIS 7 on my own dedicated server. Let's say I have two web applications. One points to folder A, and one points to folder B. The first is used for production and the second is for staging. If I want to set up a scenario whereby I upload my aplication to staging, make sure everybody's happy, then swap the folders that each web application points at, thereby putting "staging" live and making the production environment the new staging environment, what's a good way to do this? I know Microsoft themselves use this methodology on their Azure platform and I've seen it used elsewhere too. How can I do it on my server with IIS7?

• Report Builder 2.0 - Creating DataSet - User Not Authorized

  Hello, we are currently using SQL Server Reporting Services and we would like to use Report Builder so our customers can create reports themselves. I have created a User on the server. I have added this user to the SQLServerMSSQLUser and SQLServerReportServerUser groups. I have given this User db_datareader access to the required database and to the Reporting Services database. I've also tried giving the User db_owner access to the Reporting Services db's. And on the Report Manager, this User is a System_User, but has all access (every checkbox is checked). When I connect using Report Builder, I can select the Report Model to create a DataSource, but when I try to create a DataSet, I get the following error: An error occurred while connection to datasource 'DataSource1'. The details are: 'User Not Authorized'. Does anyone know what server permissions I forgot to set? I'm assuming it's a Windows permissions issue because I do not see any database login errors in the event logs.

• HTTP downloads slow - FTP of same file very fast - Windows 2003

  I am having some issues with download speeds on my site via http, i am averaging around 70kbps downloading a file that is around 70mb. But if i connect to my server via FTP and download the same file on the same computer / connection i am averaging about 300+kbps. I know my server has alot of connections at any one time, probably around 400 connections. My server has a 1gbps connection to the internet so there is plenty of bandwidth available, as proven with the FTP. I have no throttling of any kind enabled in IIS.   First off I am a linux newbie so please don't assume much knowledge. I am using CentOS 5.8 (final) and using OpenSSH version 5.8p1. • bash profile works for user but not sudo

  I've modified my .profile to include a folder if a flash drive is plugged in. When running the command as the user it works fine but tells me the scrip must be run by sudo (this is what i want). However, when i try to run it with sudo i get "command not found" I have a symlink (flash) in my /var/www folder pointing to my /media/flash drive. (nevermind this setup since is just for dev) this is my user's .profile : # set PATH so it includes flash scripts if [ -d "/var/www/flash/scripts" ] ; then PATH="/var/www/flash/scripts:$PATH" fi when trying to run as sudo i get: sudo: script: command not found any ideas?

• APC uptime 0 because of Fast

  I have a VPS using Parallels/Plesk (11.0.9 Update #22, last updated at Oct 31, 2012 03:33 AM CentOS 6.3 (Final) x86_64) I have apache (CGI/FastCGI) installed and nginx as reverse proxy. Everything is working just fine. I installed APC for caching, but the issue is that the uptime is 0 always. It's restarting each 15 seconds or so. I checked everywhere and can't find a solution to fix it. The server have the grace restart enabled, but every 6 hours, which shouldn't influence the APC uptime. Searching in Google I found that this could be related to Apache, running with FCGId instead of FastCGI. Plesk/Apache is using this config file: usr/local/psa/admin/conf/templates/default/service/php_over_fastcgi.php which content is: <IfModule mod_fcgid.c> <Files ~ (\.php)> SetHandler fcgid-script FCGIWrapper <?php echo $VAR->server->webserver->apache->phpCgiBin ?> .p$ Options +ExecCGI allow from all </Files> Is here the issue or elsewhere ? How can I fix this to work with FastCGI and make APC working properly. I forgot to specify that even if the uptime is below one minute, APC is doing pretty good job caching (92% are hits).

• Fast distributed filesystem for a large amounts of data with metadata in database

  My project uses several processing machines and one storage machine. Currently storage organized with a MSSQL filetable shared folder. Every file in storage have some metadata in database. Processing machines executes tasks for which they needed files from storage and their metadata. After completing task, processing machine puts resulting data back in storage. From there its taken by another processing machine, which also generates some file and put it back in storage. And etc. Everything was fine, but as number of processing machines increases, I found myself bottlenecked myself with storage machines hard drive performance. So I want processing machines to put files in distributed FS. to lift load from storage machines, from which they can take data from each other, not only storage machine. Can You suggest a particular distributed FS which meets my needs? Or there is another way to solve this problem, without it? Amounts of data in FS in one time are like several terabytes. (storage can handle this, but processors cannot). Data consistence is critical. Read write policy is: once file is written - its constant and may be only removed, but not modified. My current platform is Windows, but I'm ready to switch it, if there is a substantially more convenient solution on another one.

• Using Validation Groups Inside ASP.NET User Controls

  Validation groups allow you to validate data entry controls in groups. Server controls such as validation controls, Button and TextBox have ValidationGroup property that takes a string value. All the server controls having the same ValidationGroup value act as one validation group. Validation groups come handy in situations where you wish to validate only a small set of controls from many controls housed on a Web Form. Using validation groups is quite easy and straightforward. • Weird XDG User Dir resetting bug

  I have a weird problem with 12.04 LTS. Regardless of what I do to the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs file, whenever I login again the next time, that file gets all set to $HOME only. Something is happening during login using lightdm that overrides the contents of that file. If I login and do a xdg-user-dirs-update --force then the contents of the file are OK. After I logout, the file is still OK. It's when I login again using lightdm that something goes wrong. It's quite annoying.
