• Better antivirus for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 VPS

  I have only one VPS with Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and want to buy an Antivirus. I tried NOD32 but they do not give less than 5 users in business edition (I have only one server). Kaspersky may be another solution but whether should i go for Internet Security or Anti-virus? I have few website hosted on this server and user have ability to upload .jpg, .gif, .zip files in few of the folders. Apart from above two any other suggestions on Antivirus that works well on above configuration and available for only one user? Thanks

• Bridging VirtualBox over OpenVPN TAC adapter on Windows

  I'm trying to configure a virtual machine (VirtualBox guest running Backtrack 4) with a bridged adapter over a VPN connection. The VPN is is hosted by the cybersecurity club at my university, and connects to a sandboxed LAN designed for penetration testing against various servers that the club has built. My host (Windows 7 Ultimate) connects to the VPN fine and is assigned an IP through DHCP, but for some reason the VM can't do the same thing, and I'm not sure why. It's like OpenVPN is filtering out packets from the MAC address it doesn't recognize. I want the virtual machine to bridge over the VPN connection, because our IT office has very strict policies about what you can and can't do on the network. I want to be able to run active attacks (ARP spoofing, nmap, Nessus scans) in the sandbox environment without risking the traffic accidentally going over the university network and getting my internet access revoked. Bridging over the VPN connection and running all attacks from inside the VM would solve that problem. Any idea why the host can use this interface, but the VM can't?

Its a Master ans Slave method. Assume DNS Servers are: ns1.customdnsserver.com [192.168.91.129] ==> Master ns2.customdnsserver.com [192.168.91.130] ==> Slave Now i will host few shared hosting websites in my own web server. Where i will link above Nameservers to my domains in shared hosting. My Question is: How do i tell root DNS servers about my own authoritative only DNS server? So that when someone queries for domain www.example.com and if the domain's website is hosted in my shared hosting i want root servers to point the query to my own DNS Server so that the www.example.com get resolved for IP address.

• Creating cookieless application on development machine with asp.net

  I am thinking about setting up a new domain to host static content on my website and have it cookieless just like Stackoverflow with their static domain. So before going ahead and buying the domain and setting it up I wanted to test it on my developement machine first under localhost (I have to mention that i am planning on having IIS running on my new domain for the static files). I therefore created a new application under IIS and disabled session state and forms authentication. When my main application needs resources like css, images and js , I use the path to the "static" application where they are hosted. The problem is that when I look at the request and the response for the requested files, they still have the session_id cookie defined as well as the asp.net authentication cookie. Is it at all possible to accomplish what i am trying to do on a development machine or do i have to just go ahead and purchase the new domain which hopefully with make things right? I tried to read about cookieless domain but can't figure out what i might be missing.

  I have a j2ee application hosted on jboss and linux platform. When I try to access the application , I see following error in server.log file. ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified When I point the same jboss instance to a different schema, the application works fine. I tried to go through few forum and found that the NLS parameter settings are fine. Can anyone help. • Qmail does not forward mail to a specific domain

  Hi I have a dedicated hosting account with GoDaddy.com. I've pointed my domain's email to work with Google apps. The server has qmail running and it forwards email to all domains just fine except for MY domain (mydomain.com) - it says 550 User xxx not found in mydomain.com I believe it thinks I've hosted email on the server itself (not gmail) and it's trying to validate if [email protected] exists on my server (which is not the case since it's all handled by google apps). How do I make it forward mail to all domains? Thank you :) EDIT: I would only need it forwarding emails if the connection originates from 127.0.0.1 - which I believe is the default way it's configured. So to clarify: I just need a purely forwarded configuration so my PHP scripts have the ability to send email.

• ReadyNAS issue with Google Apps?

  The power went out (again) in my house today so I decided to set up some alerting. Since I have a ReadyNAS and the latest version of Raidinator seems to have SMTP TLS support, I figured I would try setting things up to email to a domain I have hosted on Google Apps. At this point, I have everything working IF I use a Gmail account but as soon as I switch to a Google Apps email address, it stops working and complains with smtpstatus=535 smtpmsg='535-5.7.1 Username and Password not accepted. Learn more at \n535 5.7.1 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=14257 30sm16076226wfd.23' errormsg='authentication failed (GNU SASL, method PLAIN)' exitcode=EX_NOPERM I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Google's extremely aggressive captcha does not help but I am able to log in now without a captcha from a browser so I'm open to any ideas why the simple switch of a user/password combo that is supposed to work does not. I'm also attaching my config so that others can see how to set things up.

• Can I setup a link SQL server connection between servers on different networks?

  We have a production SQL server hosted offsite at a hosting company, and we have a staging environment within our own network. We want to be able to setup a SQL job that copies content from a table on the staging server to prod on a regular basis, and I think we need to setup a linked server connection to do this. What do I need to get the hosting company to do to allow us to set this up? We have RDP access to the production servers, I just need to know what network and security configurations need to happen from the hosting company's perspective so I can ask them to do it.

• Git on Windows Server

  I have my Git repository hosted at github.com. I would like to push updates and such to github.com and then log into my Windows server and do a git pull to get my changes. Is this optimal? It seems like whenever I try to do a git pull on the server, the files seem to get updated somehow since the last pull. And so I am unable to get the update as git says I need to commit my local (Windows server) changes. How can I use git like I want to? Or is there a better way?

  Hi all and thanks for reading, I have a delay issue where my application takes a long time to start up when first called after an determinate period since the last call. The web application is a WCF service and we are talking about a delay of ~18seconds before the actual processing starts. Now, I believe I know how to reduce this delay so that is not my question (it's more a stackoverflow deal anyway) My question is, Can anyone explain to me why is it that despite me disabling worker process shutdown, and worker process recycling the application still 'winds down' after a indeterminate period of time of inactivity? To understand this I need to know more about the innerworkings of WCF services hosted in IIS. I fully expect there to be a straight forward answer to this.   I have hosted my site in a shared environment. Recently for security reasons the hosting company has disabled socket functions. When i enquired them they said that they will enable to people who personally request for that option. And they said it is a matter of 2 minutes work and asked for my control panel username and password. They said that it is just updating the php.ini for my account. So i want to know how to do it myself. If that could be done by them in 2 minutes then why cant a developer. I asked them but they mumbled... saying not to give trouble to me. so i want to know how to edit php.ini or something like stated above my hosting is using cPanel control panel. suggestions please.

• debian mysql server always down

  I am hosting a mysql server in a debian 6.0.4 server hosted in linode, the new data is frequently written into the mysql server using R, about 30-40 "write" per minute, about 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Recently I found that the mysql server seem to down frequently, always give me error that mysql server cannot be connected through socket. I wonder if this is caused by my high demand to my mysql server, and if this can be solved. I am definitely a newbie in manage server. • IIS Logs not getting created

  Hi I have a site running on IIS 6. I have turned on logging on the website tab of IIS and specified a directory for it to write to. Set it to an hourly schedule. However no logs are ever created. Have reset iis. checked disk space and permissions on the directory it is writing to but no logs are ever created. I can see this did work once, as there are logs created in the system32/logfiles directory from about a year ago. Even if I specify that directory nothing new gets created This is on a hosted service What else can I check? Is there any place that errors would be written to that might give me a clue as to what is going on? Have tried event viewer but nothing untoward in there Would appreciate any pointers on this

• Azure cloud app subdomain pointing to actual domain

  Say we have a domain xyz.com registered with some registrar ... we pointed that domain to the name server of our dedicated server where the DNS will be hosted for that domain. Now, we just want that dedicated server to host the emails coming and the domain will point to abc.cloudapp.net (azure cloud app, they don't provide any static IP ... and only public url is given) Now, someone please helping me in editing/creating the DNS file on our dedicated server to make sure things work properly... if possible past here minimum settings we need in DNS file to make sure mails are on dedicated server and app is on cloud... • Stripping a spike from rrdtool when removespike.pl doesn't find any

  I know when rrdtool graphs (using rrdtool 1.4) network traffic and the host is restarted a spike is a pretty normal thing to see. In the past I've just run that removespike.pl script that is hosted by the author and it strips the spike and I'm good to go. The last few times I've rebooted removespike.pl finds no spikes, but it's obvious that there are spikes. So my question is, how can I easily remove these spikes and get my graphs usable again? Right now it's so skewed it's meaningless.

• Troubleshooting source of heavy resource-usage on a windows server 2008 running multiple sites

  Hi, I am running about 10 asp.net websites on a hosted virtual server. The server runs Server 2008 - each website is backed by its own database running on SQL server 2008 on the same box. Lately the box has seemed really slow. The only kind of discovery i could think of doing was looking in the task manager, where i can see w3wp and sqlserver.exe jumping to 40% cpu usage every 5-10 seconds. What are the steps i can take to determine which of my websites is taking these resources and or what database is getting hit the most? I have of course ssms installed on the machine as well. As you can tell, my sysadmin skills are very very limited - any help would be much appreciated.

• Multi-Tenant VMWare View Deployment

  We have VMWare View 5 set up for a single tenant environment, absolutely brilliant and works perfectly. Two thumbs up there! We're looking at the possibility of deploying this in a multi tenant scenario, where multiple unlinked companies connect to a VDI solution hosted by us but have no visibility of each other. Obviously;y this could be achieved by doubling up on all the components, having a complete VMWare View stack for each tenant, but this seems a little bit messy. Has anyone done this before, and if so how? Googling sheds little light apart from this experts exchange topic.

• DNS: domain2 points to domain1

  I have one domain ("domain1") that is set up with hosting and mail (hosted by Gmail Apps). This domain works perfectly. I want a second domain ("domain2") to forward to domain1, but I don't want to use "DNS Forwarding." I would like to have it act EXACTLY like domain1, so that domain2/whatever points to the same resource as domain1/whatever WITHOUT AN HTTP REDIRECT NOR BROWSER TRICKS LIKE FRAMES. I would also love to be able to send mail to "blah@domain2" and have it go to "blah@domain1". Can this be set up, and how? I am using GoDaddy as registrar and DNS host for both domains. GoDaddy is also the web host for domain1, and mail hosting is with Google Apps.

Our domain points to the hostmonster DNS servers, but I can't figure out the right configuration for the remote email servers. • Relay thru external SMTP server on Exchange 2010

  My client has dynamic IP on which he hosts Exchange 2010 with POP3 Connector running and gathering emails from his current hosting. Until he gets static IP he wants to send emails out. This will work most of the time but some servers won't accept such email sent by Exchange (from dynamic ip due to multiple reasons) so I would like to make a relay thru external SMTP server which hosts current mailboxes. Normally SMTP server could be set up to allow relay thru it but this would require static IP to be allowed on that server so it would know which IP is allowed to relay thru it. Or is there a way to setup relay in Exchange 2010 so it can use dynamic IP and kinda authenticates with user/password itself on the hosted server?

• Are there website monitoring services that can monitor HTTP file download times?

  The software company I work for would like to monitor how long it takes to download their installers (hosted in several locations and about 30-100mb each) from various countries around the world. I am aware of website monitoring services like Pingdom and Site24x7, and have contacted their customer services, but neither have the facility to monitor download times of such large files via HTTP. For various reasons, we are not able to rely on weblogs. Does anyone know of any third-party services that could help us? Many thanks.

• Windows 7 Activation with Bootcamp and VMWare

  I have windows 7(64) installation setup on a Boot Camp partition on my MacBook Pro 13". I also access this partition through VMware hosted by OS X (snow leopard). Every time I switch between VMware and Boot Camp windows says that it needs to be re-activated because of hardware or driver changes. I've tried wmware KB KB 1003426 to no avail. • Unable to call through asterisk

  I want to create a voip service. I have installed asterisk-1.4 on a dedicated remotely hosted debian lenny distro. I made a sip.conf and extensions.conf so as to place a call between two sip phones(i am using xlite 3.0) installed in some other Windows PC. Whenever i switch this phones the asterisk console shows that Registration from '"1000"<sip:[email protected]>' failed for '122.168.10.254' - Peer is not supposed to register Where xx.xx.xx.xx is the server's IP. i.e my sip phones are unable to register with the asterisk server. • 'inode table usage' spiking every morning at 8am

  I installed munin on my ubuntu server. It's showing my 'inode table usage' spiking every morning at 8am. It then rapidly curves down and settles over the course of several hours. What might cause this? I thought it might be something running in /etc/cron.daily but this was set to run at 6a.m. and I've changed it to 4am. The spike remains at 8am. I also enabled cron logging, but can't see anything getting launched at 8a.m. It's a virtual server hosted by memset. Could it be caused by something happening on the virtual host?
