• Transalation of tasks in .NET 1.1 to .NET 3.5

  In .Net 1.1 I would run a stored procedure to fill a typed dataset. I would use a Datareader to fill the dataset for speed (though it was probably not necessary) Then I would use the Dataset to bind to multiple controls on the page so as to render the data to multiple CSS/javsript based tabs on the page. This would also reduce the database call to 1. So I know I could this in 3.5, but is there a better way. For example can one stored procedure create an EDM object to be used. Since the data is mainly readonly should I even bother changing or keep using the Stored proc -> Data set -> Bind individual controls to specific data tables

The following code returns only local accounts which are members of the admin group - no domain groups or individual accounts are returned at all (BLAH\Domain Admins or BLAH\yajohn, for instance). We can easily do this in java using: HashMap copyOfOriginal=new HashMap(original); But what about C++? How should I go about it?   I tried drag and drop from the explorer, but no luck with following error: "Folders cannot be dropped or pasted as solution items. Choose an individual document instead." I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way to do this on visual studio 2005? Updated: Thank you for the reply, but I do not want the folders to be added under any project, It should appear as a separate node inside my solution, like any other project. In this case the show all files does not work, since the solution itself does not have any folder, it is only if we select any project it works. I know we can create each folders/subfolders manually and add each file, but any quick way, because there are few hundreds of files.

• Programmatically compose images into one grid in Deep Zoom

  Folks, the problem: there are individual 1MB images that represent a grid of images that should be placed side-by-side with no overlap and then conveted/exported to deepzoom. Image are named by row and column like image_col_row.jpg. The challenge: the total number of images in thousands, which makes it prohibitive for manual composition and exporting in DZC. I tried to first stitch images programmaticall into one huge image, then to use DZC - no luck cause the exporting chocked with the size. if you tried programmaticall compose and export deepzoom, please point me into the right direction. • Using CSS Classes for indivdual effects - opinions?

  Hey, Just trying to canvas some opinions here. I was wondering how people go about adding individual effects to html elements. Take this example: you have three types of h1 titles all the same size but some are black some are gold and some are white. Some have a text-shadow etc. Would you create separate CSS classes and add them do the h1 tag or would you create a new single class for each different h1 title type (with grouped CSS elements)? With singular class for each effect you can build up combos of classes in html class="gold shadow" but also how would you name them. For example its bad practice to give classes and id names associated to colours, because it doesn't define what it does well. However is this ok with textual CSS classes? Just wondering what others do, I know there are no hard and fast rules. Cheers.

  While very easy to do in Perl or PHP, I cannot figure how to use mysql only to extract the first unique occurence of a record. For example, given the following table: Name Date Time Sale John 2010-09-12 10:22:22 500 Bill 2010-08-12 09:22:37 2000 John 2010-09-13 10:22:22 500 Sue 2010-09-01 09:07:21 1000 Bill 2010-07-25 11:23:23 2000 Sue 2010-06-24 13:23:45 1000 I would like to extract the first record for each individual in asc time order. After sorting the table is ascending time order, I need to extract the first unique record by name. • How do I get the java.concurrency.CyclicBarrier to work as expected

  I am writing code that will spawn two thread and then wait for them to sync up using the CyclicBarrier class. Problem is that the cyclic barrier isn't working as expected and the main thread doesnt wait for the individual threads to finish. I would like to know if there is a simple way to remove a module without having to do a lot of work deleting individual files. I searched for this question on the internet and found some answers, but the answers I've found seem to either discuss using the Perl package manager (specific for Microsoft Windows), otherwise operating-system specific (BSDpan), suggesting using cpanplus (which I've had several bad experiences with), or ended by pointing to a dead link as follows: http://www.cpan.org/misc/cpan-faq.html#How_delete_Perl_modules. My question is specifically whether there is a clean way to remove a module installed via cpan.

We've implemented AJAX, using the ASP.NET Update Panel to avoid visible postbacks. Originally there was only one area that needed this ability ... that soon expanded to other fields. Now my web page has multiple UpdatePanels. I am wondering if it would be best to just wrap the entire form in a single UpdatePanel, or keep the individual UpdatePanels. What are the best practices for using the ASP.NET UpdatePanel?

  I have a custom TrueType font (TTF) that consists of a bunch of icons, which I'd like to render as individual bitmaps (GIF, PNG, whatever) for use on the Web. You'd think this is a simple task, but apparently not? There is a huge slew of TTF-related software here: http://cg.scs.carleton.ca/~luc/ttsoftware.html But it's all varying levels of "not quite what I want", broken links and/or hard to impossible to compile on a modern Ubuntu box -- eg. dumpglyphs (C++) and ttfgif (C) both fail to compile due to obscure missing dependencies. Any ideas?

  I'm integrating Swift code into a large Objective-C project, but I'm running into problems when my Swift code refers to Objective-C classes. For example, suppose I have: An Objective-C class called MyTableViewController An Objective-C class called DeletionWorkflow I declared a Swift class as follows: class DeletionVC: MyTableViewController { let deleteWorkflow: DeletionWorkflow ... } If I now try to use this class by importing ProjectName-Swift.h into Objective-C code, I get undefined symbol errors for both MyTableViewController and DeletionWorkflow. I can fix the problem in that individual source file by importing DeletionWorkflow.h and MyTableViewController.h before I import ProjectName-Swift.h but this doesn't scale up to a large project where I want my Swift and Objective-C to interact often. Is there a way to add forward class references to ProjectName-Swift.h so that these errors don't occur when I try to use Swift classes from Objective-C code in my app?

• Drupal Filefield won't upload javascript files?

  Hiya, I've got a site where individual pages might require some javascript or CSS files hooked into their heads. I'm trying to keep everything client side when it comes to managing this process, rather than getting on the FTP and sorting everything out in the code so I need to be able to upload css and js files. I've got CCK filefield up and running, and it works with css files, but it refuses to upload .js files. It instead seems to view every .js as ".js.txt" and then the file appears on the server as thisismyfile.js.txt Not ideal... Does anyone know how to work around this. Is it a mime type problem with Drupal or the server, or is Drupal set up to avoid script uploads and n00b hack attacks. Once the files are uploaded I intend to use PHP mode on the page or node to call drupal_add_css and drupal_add_js.

  I created the global temp table. when I execute the code as an individual scripts it works fine. but when I execute it as a single script in TOAD then no record was created. there was just an empty global temp table. eg. CREATE GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE TEMP_TRAN ( COL1 NUMBER(9), COL2 VARCHAR2(30), COL3 DATE ) ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS / INSERT INTO TEMP_TRAN VALUES(1,'D',sysdate); / INSERT INTO TEMP_TRAN VALUES(2,'I',sysdate); / INSERT INTO TEMP_TRAN VALUES(3,'s',sysdate); / COMMIT; When I run the above code one statement at a time it works fine. But when I execute it as a script it runs fine but there was no records in temp table. can anyone help me on this please?

  Using Visual Studio 2005, is there a way to export the images in an Image List to individual files on my PC? Using the IDE, I select the Image List and view its properties. In the "Images" property, I launch the Images Collection Editor dialog. I can only add and remove images, but I cannot find a way to export an image that is already in the list. Why? The developer who made the original list has left our company and I need the images for an ASP.NET application (will convert to .jpeg). Thank you for the help!

• Dynamically add files to visual studio deployment project.

  I've been desperately looking for the answer to this and I feel I'm missing something obvious. I need to copy a folder full of data files into the TARGETDIR of my deployment project at compile time. I can see how I would add individual files (ie. right click in File System and go to Add-File) but I have a folder full of data files which constantly get added to. I'd prefer not to have to add the new files each time I compile. I have tried using a PreBuildEvent to copy the files: copy $(ProjectDir)..\Data*.* $(TargetDir)Data\ which fails with error code 1 when I build. I can't help but feel I'm missing the point here though. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Graeme

• Mapping of memory addresses to physical modules in Windows XP

  I plan to run 32-bit Windows XP on a workstation with dual processors, based on Intel's Nehalem microarchitecture, and triple channel RAM. Even though XP is limited to 4 GB of RAM, my understanding is that it will function with more than 4 GB installed, but will only expose 4 GB (or slightly less). My question is: Assuming that 6 GB of RAM is installed in six 1 GB modules, which physical 4 GB will Windows actually map into its address space? In particular: Will it use all six 1 GB modules, taking advantage of all memory channels? (My guess is yes, and that the mapping to individual modules within a group happens in hardware.) Will it map 2 GB of address space to each of the two NUMA nodes (as each processor has it's own memory interface), or will one processor get fast access to 3 GB of RAM, while the other only has 1 GB?   I thought I had an answer to this, but the more I play with it, the more I see it as a design flaw of Powershell. I would like to drag and drop (or use the Send-To mechanism) to pass multiple files and/or folders as a array to a Powershell script. Test Script #Test.ps1 param ( [string[]] $Paths, [string] $ExampleParameter ) "Paths" $Paths "args" $args I then created a shortcut with the following command line and dragged some files on to it. The files come across as individual parameters which first match the script parameters positionally, with the remainder being placed in the $args array. Shortcut Attempt 1 powershell.exe -noprofile -noexit -file c:\Test.ps1 I found that I can do this with a wrapper script... Wrapper Script #TestWrapper.ps1 & .\Test.ps1 -Paths $args Shortcut Attempt 2 powershell.exe -noprofile -noexit -file c:\TestWrapper.ps1 Has anyone found a way to do this without the extra script?

• Using VB6 + WSH with Windows Compression

  Having trouble with WSH and Windows Compression. My goal is to be able to zip up files (not folders, but individual files from various locations, which I have stored in an array) using the built-in Windows Compression. I am using VB6. Here is my routine (vb6 code): Dim objShell Dim objFolder Set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application") Set objFolder = objShell.namespace(savePath & "\export.zip") ' -- ' loop through array holding files to zip For i = 0 To filePointer objFolder.CopyHere (filesToZip(i)) Next ' -- Set objShell = Nothing Set objFolder = Nothing It works, but issues arise when there are more than a few files. I start getting errors from Windows (presumably, its calling the compression too fast, and the zip file is locked). I cant seem to figure out how to WAIT until the COPYHERE function completes before calling the next one to avoid issues. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks -
