  • How to get wireless (Alfa) operate in full power and speed up wireless Internet?

    I am using Wireless to connect to the internet (router). My laptop has Atheros wireless (AR 242x/542x) adapter but the router is a little bit far-away from my room so I have to use an external wireless adapter i.e. Alfa (Realtek 8187) for connectivity. However, since I have started using Ubuntu I noticed that Alfa is not working in full power, internet speed in Ubuntu is much slower than in Windows on my laptop. When I am using Windows 7 the LED (bulb) on Alfa blinks as it should, but when in Ubuntu, it doesn't blink rather it is on but very dim. Connection using Atheros adapter is also the same (slow)... I have tried 4 methods (I found on the Internet) to troubleshoot this matter but no success. It seems to me that Ubuntu/Linux is not letting these wireless adapters to operate in full strength. iwconfig shows that power management is off for both. So what's the problem?   • Internet stopped working after aircrack install (can still connect to my router). Suggestions?

    I'm sure I did something dumb during the install for aircrack, but I have no clue what. Like I said, I can connect to my router (not trying to crack, simply logging into it), I just can't get internet access. To make this more interesting, the machine is dual booted and when I log into Windows I have zero issues. I feel like some driver may have been messed up in the process, but I'm not sure if that's a reasonable assumption or how exactly to check that. Also, can't revert to backup as there are none. Suggestions on how to trouble-shoot would be appreciated. EDIT: Hard-wiring to the wall I can get internet access on the Ubuntu side... PS- I know this is a stretch as far as fitting the Ubuntu section, but no other stackoverflow sites seemed to fit better.

  • IE8 Crash On Startup

    Hello All, I have a problem - IE8 has suddenly stopped working. I was doing some development work, and suddenly IE8 crashed every time I tried to use it. I've rebooted, but still crash every time I try to open it. There is no real indication as to what has gone wrong. It just says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I've tried almost everything that I've seen when I've Googled it: I disabled all Add-Ins via Manage Add-Ins, but it still crashes on startup* I re-registered IEPROXY.DLL * The thing I don't understand is that if I start from the Run box with the -extoff option, IE starts up. Isn't that the same as disabling all Add-Ins? Any ideas? Thanks, wTs

  • How to remove google ads virus from IE?

    I have picked up adware in that shows extra irrelevant google ads. This only happens in Internet Explorer 10, not Firefox or Iron. I have tried some removals for similar viruses with no luck. I have scanned with MalwareBytes, Windows Defender(I am using Windows 8 RTM, so this is the same as MSE), Spybot, Ad Aware, McAfee, Norton, and AVG, with no luck. Here's a screenshot: As you can see, ads are added to the tan area as well as several extra white results, which are especially irrelevant. I like IE10 and would like to keep using it, but these ads are annoying. I'm also worried there may be spyware as well.

    Recently i have some problems accessing websites. When i try to access it says This webpage is not available. I tried accessing the site through FireFox, Internet Explorer and Chrome. I also tried with using a web proxy but still the same problem. This problem is only in my Desktop PC, all the websites works fine in my laptop Currently i cant access, yahoo.com download.com bing.com proxy.org daniweb.com aol.com and many forums I check with the host file but nothing is blocked in that.   • Certain sites not working in Firefox, working in IE

    Totally weird thing happening on my PC after I came back from the Holiday shutdown. My homepage by default is google.com/ig but when it opens (in Firefox) the G-Mail panel does not display and eventually times out. I then try to navigate to https://www.gmail.com but that also times out. Thinking maybe work decided to drop the ban-hammer on g-mail I decided to try it in Internet Explorer. Oddly enough it works in IE Any idea on why it works fine in one browser but not the other?

  • Browser keeps being really rude to me today

    Hi All I've had this problem only once before, years ago. I bought a new computer the other day and last night I visited a website which Google Chrome suspected was an insecure site. So I proceeded to view the page anyway (Stupid, I know... But I was curious), and all of a sudden the window closed and ever since, every few minutes either Google chrome or Internet Explorer keeps popping up with random websites, most of which are porn-related sites. I have downloaded ZoneAlarm, IOBit 360, Eset Smart Security and none of them reported any problems. I still have the rube browser problem. Can somebody please suggest any software/ways to fix this? (Other than to reformat please :)) Thank you :)

Now the thing is that when we speak of internet radio what are we actually talking about? Let's say [17,3] = Raphael does not have an element in front of if (let's say - no [16,3] exists) then [17,3] should become [16,3] etc. So basically all empty items will be popped off the vertical (row) structure of the hash. Are there functions I should have a look at or is there an easy squash-like method that would just remove blanks and adjust and move other items? Thanks in advance for your help.

Consider this simple template: template <int N> constexpr int factorial() { return N * factorial<N - 1>(); } template <> constexpr int factorial<0>() { return 1; } template <> constexpr int factorial<1>() { return 1; } I would like to be able to change factorial so that I can alternatively call it like this: factorial(5); and let the compiler figure out the value of N at compile time. Is this possible? Maybe with some fancy C++11 addition?

    Iam creating a simple widget, by this widget i want to open my mainactivity. Iam sending a unique key from my widget class to check whether my mainactivity is called via widget or not.     hello everybody, i'm looking for a technique to adapt a html listbox to hierarchical content with an unlimited number of levels ( const 1 would be sufficient ). hierarchy levels should be collapsible as in the usual file explorer views. the html listbox behaviour should be preserved / mimicked as comprehensively as possible. do you have a hint on where to find or how to implement this ? jquery solutions are fine. firefox 3.5+, ie 8+, safari 5 must be supported; opera 11, chrome 9 would be nice. as far as i understand the issue, listbox contents are rendered inside their own browser window sporting none of the standard window adornments. a hint on how to obtain a handle on this window in js would be a sufficient starting point, as well as correcting me in case i misconceived the browser behaviour. thanks in advance for your efforts, best regards, carsten

    Using the Visual Studio Nov 2012 CTP, which supports variadic templates (among other things). The following code: template<int, typename... Args> void myfunc(Args... args) { } template<> void myfunc<1, float>(float) { } produces the following errors: error C2785: 'void myfunc(Args...)' and 'void myfunc(float)' have different return types error C2912: explicit specialization 'void myfunc(float)' is not a specialization of a function template (yeah, the first one is pretty funny) So my questions are: 1) Am I writing legal C++11 here? 2) If yes, is there a way to find out if this is a known bug in MSVC before submitting it?

  • Using Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center to Update Solaris via Live Upgrade

    Introduction: This Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center blog entry provides tips for using Ops Center to update Solaris using Live Upgrade on Solaris 10 and Boot Environments on Solaris 11. Why use Live Upgrade? Live Upgrade (LU) can significantly reduce downtime associated with patching Live Upgrade avoids dropping to single-user mode for long periods of time during patching Live Upgrade relies on an Alternate Boot Environment (ABE)/(BE), which is patched while in multi-user mode; thereby allowing normal system operations to continue with the active BE, while the alternate BE is being patched Activating an newly patched (A)BE is essentially a reboot; therefore the downtime is ~= reboot Admins can easily revert to the prior Boot Environment (BE) as a safeguard / fallback. Why use Ops Center to patch via Live Upgrade, Alternate Boot Environments, and Solaris 11 equivalents? All the benefits of Ops Center's extensive patch and package knowledge base can be leveraged on top of Live Upgrade Ops Center can orchestrate patching based on Live Upgrade and Solaris 11 features, which all works together to minimize downtime Ops Centers advanced inventory and reporting features assurance that each OS is updated to a verifiable, consistent standard, rather than relying on ad-hoc (error prone) procedures and scripts Ops Center gives admins control over the boot environment specifications or they can let Ops Center decide when a BE is necessary, thereby reducing complexity and lowering the opportunity for user error Preparing to use Live Upgrade-like features in Solaris 11 Requirements and information you should know: Global Zone Root file-systems must be separate from Solaris Container / Zone filesystems Solaris 11 has features which are similar in concept to Live Upgrade on Solaris 10, but differ greatly in implementationImportant distinctions: Solaris 11 assumes ZFS root Solaris 11 adds Boot Environments (BE's) as an integrated feature (see beadm) Solaris 11 BE's avoid single-user patching (vs. Solaris 10 w/ ZFS snapshot=ABE). Solaris 11 Image Packaging System (IPS) has hooks for BE creation, as needed Solaris 11 allows pkgs to be installed + upgraded in alternate BE (e.g. instead of the live system) but it is controlled on a per-pkg basis Boot Environments are activated across a reboot; instead of spending long periods installing + upgrading packages in single user mode. Fallback to a prior BE is a function of the BE infrastructure (a la beadm). (Generally) Reboot + BE activation can be much much faster on Solaris 11 Preparing to use Live Upgrade on Solaris 10 Requirements and information you should know: Global Zone Root file-systems must be separate from Solaris Container / Zone filesystems Live Upgrade Pre-requisite patches must be applied before the first Live Upgrade Alternate Boot Environments are created (see "Pre-requisite Patches" section, below...) Solaris 10 Update 6 or newer on ZFS root is the practical starting point for Live Upgrade Live Upgrade with ZFS root is far more straight-forward than any scheme based on Alternative Boot Environments in slices or temporarily breaking mirrors Use Solaris best practices to upgrade the OS to at least Solaris 10 Update 4 (outside of Ops Center) UFS root can (technically) be used, but it is significantly more involved (e.g. discouraged) -- there are many reasons to move to ZFS while going through the process to update to Solaris 10 Update 6 or newer (out side of Ops Center) Recommendation: Start with Solaris 10 Update 6 or newer on ZFS root Recommendation: Start with Ops Center 12c or newer Ops Center 12c can automatically create your ABE's for you, without the need for custom scripts Ops Center 12c Update 2 avoids kernel panic on unpatched Solaris 10 update 9 (and older) -- unrelated to Live Upgrade, but more on the issue, below. NOTE: There is no magic!  If you have systems running Solaris 10 Update 5 or older on UFS root, and you don't know how to get them updated to Solaris 10 on ZFS root, then there are services available from Oracle Advanced Customer Support (ACS), which specialize in this area. Live Upgrade Pre-requisite Patches (Solaris 10) Certain Live Upgrade related patches must be present before the first Live Upgrade ABE's are created on Solaris 10.Use the following MOS Search String to find the “living document” that outlines the required patch minimums, which are necessary before using any Live Upgrade features: Solaris Live Upgrade Software Patch Requirements(Click above – the link is valid as of this writing, but search in MOS for the same "Solaris Live Upgrade Software Patch Requirements" string if necessary) It is a very good idea to check the document periodically and adapt to its contents, accordingly.IMPORTANT:  In case it wasn't clear in the above document, some direct patching of the active OS, including a reboot, may be required before Live Upgrade can be successfully used the first time.HINT: You can use Ops Center to determine what to expect for a given system, and to schedule the “pre-patching” during a maintenance window if necessary. Operational Profile, which provides the script to create an ABE: Very similar to the automatic case, but with a Script (Operational Profile), which is used to create the ABE Relies on user-supplied script in the form of an Operational Profile Could be used to prepare an ABE based on a UFS root in a slice, or on a separate device (e.g. by breaking a mirror first) – it is up to the script author to do the right thing! EXAMPLE: Same result as the ZFS case, but illustrating the Operational Profile (e.g. script) approach to call: # lucreate -n S10_1207REC NOTE: OC special variable is $ABEName Boot Environment Profile, which references the Operational Profile Script = Operational Profile on this screen Refers to Operational Profile shown in the previous section The user-supplied S10_Create_BE Operational Profile will be run The Operational Profile must send a non-zero exit code if there is a problem (so that the OS Update job will not proceed) Solaris 10 OS Update Profile (to provide the actual patch specifications) Solaris 10 Baseline “Recommended” chosen for “Install” Solaris 10 OS Update Plan (two-steps in this case) “Create a Boot Environment” + “Update OS” are chosen. Summary: Solaris 10 Live Upgrade, Alternate Boot Environments, and their equivalents on Solaris 11 can be very powerful tools to help minimize the downtime associated with updating your servers.  For very old Solaris, there are some important prerequisites to adhere to, but once the initial preparation is complete, Live Upgrade can be used going forward.  For Solaris 11, the built-in Boot Environment handling is leveraged directly by the Image Packaging System, and the result is a much more straight forward way to patch, and far fewer prerequisites to satisfy in getting there.  Ops Center simplifies using either approach, and helps you improve consistency from system to system, which ultimately helps you improve the overall up-time across all the Solaris systems in your environment.   • DD-WRT No Internet connection over LAN

    I flashed the DD-WRT firmware on my TP-Link WR1043ND router and although after cloning the PC's MAC-Address it gets the correct IP from my ISP, the internet connection over LAN just won't work. The strange thing is it does work flawlessly over W-LAN, which tells me the problem should lie somehow in the default LAN settings or the PC. Any idea what the problem might be?     I'm trying to install IE9, visit http://beautyoftheweb.com, download it and then says it's downloading prereqs. After a minute, the installer says there's a problem and directs me to Prerequisites for installing Internet Explorer 9 Beta I click on the x86 installers one by one... most say "already installed".. But http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2120976/ says "The update is not applicable to your computer". Lame. So I try the IE9 install and the go through the whole process again with the same result.   • Why didn't 12.04 install?

    Ok, so I've installed Ubuntu many times on my computer.. Normally on the same partition, and WIndows would always delete Ubuntu(I don't know how.. it just happens) if i go away from keyboard during boot and it chooses Windows automatically because I took to long. So i tried to reinstall again, but after the fifth time it wouldn't let me, and told me to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". It took a while to find, but when i found it, I had no idea what any of it meant, as I'm no programmer.I first tried this the day Precise Pangolin came out. SO skip ahead 2.5 months, when I finally found this file, and i then got the idea of making a new partition to install Ubuntu on, but I used wubi, like I always did. It didn't look like it would f anything up, so I did it. it went through all the downloads, extracting, etc. Which took about 40 minutes total, then ended with an error message saying to check "wubi-12.04-rev266.log". i did.   • jQuery slideToggle() Internet Explorer problem and jumpy animation

    Hey yaa! I have a big problem with my jquery. I finally made it that my slidetoggle runs in firefox. The animation is a little bit jumpy in the end of the animation. I read a lot of workarounds, but somehow nothing helped me really. Perhaps anyone of you can rescue me out of this dilemma. The other bigger problem is that the hidden divs are unfortunately shown directly on start in internet explorer. I tested it in IE6&7. And the sliding effect is also very strange. Does anyone of you know if I have to give additional styling for IE???   • jQuery ajax success chaining Internet Explorer Issues

    I have a jQuery ajax function that retrieves JSON data. In the success block I call another function to parse the data and update the page. At the end of this parsing/updating function a different ajax call is made. This works perfectly in all browsers except Internet Explorer (7 and 8). The problem is Internet explorer thinks the script is taking too long to process because the success block from the first ajax call doesn't complete until the 2nd ajax call finishes. I get the message: "Stop running this script? A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive." My jQuery code: $("#id_select").bind("change", function(e){ $.ajax({ url: "/retrieve_data.js", data: {id:$(e.target).children(":selected").attr("value")}, type: "get", dataType:"json", success: function(data, status, form){ processData(data); }, error: function(response, status){ alert(response.responseText); } }); }) Any suggestions on how to get IE to stop timing out or to accomplish this task without rewriting all my jQuery functions would be appreciated.
