• MySQL: 4 Table "has-many-through" Join?

  Let's say I have the following 4 tables (for examples' sake): Owners, Trucks, Boxes, Apples. An owner can have many trucks, a truck can have many boxes and a box can have many apples. Owners have an id. Trucks have an id and owner_id. Boxes have an id and truck_id. Apples have an id and box_id. Let's say I want to get all the apples "owned" by an owner with id = 34. So I want to get all the boxes that are in boxes that are in trucks that owner 34 owns. There is a "hierarchy" if you will of 4 tables that each only has reference to its direct "parent". How can I quickly filter boxes while satisfying conditions across the other 3 tables? I hope that made sense somewhat. Thanks.

• drupal hook just before inserting/updating user info

  Hi, I want to hook into drupal's user registration and be able to stop it or allow it to proceed just before database insert. All validations and 3rd party stuff must be done and just before inserting I need to hook in. What is the hook and the operation to do this? I tried 'validate' operation in the hook_user. But, after I check against my logic and let the registration proceed, it should not fail due to some other validation. If I let it proceed, no application logic after that should stop the registration (unless the DB engine fails or something of course). If I stop it, I will set a form error so that nothing happens. How can this be accomplished? P.S. I am using Drupal 6.16

  I have a Currency class and want to update its rates. Instead of NOT expecting USD, it says it is. And in the future there will be lots of currencies to update, but I don't want to test and stub each one of them. How can I resolve this issue?

• Visual Studio (2005 & 2008) Compile Completed Alert?

  Does anyone know of any kind of plugin or alert system which will let me know when my compiles are completed? Some of the solutions I work with are gigantic and sometimes the compiles can take 5-20 minutes (depending on the PC). Thus I would like to do something else in the meantime, but I don't want to keep checking back to see if the compile is done. Is there any way to have a windows alert, or flash the screen when the compile is done? It would let me browse the internet whilst waiting for the compile to finish without worrying that its been complete and I'm just wasting time.

Does it make sense ?

  Let's say you have an MVVM CRM application. You have a number of customer objects in memory, through a repository. What would be the appropriate place to handle tasks that aren't associated with traditional MVVM tasks from a GUI? For example, let's say every few minutes you want to check to see if their address is valid and pop up a notification if it is not. Or you want to send out an hourly e-mail update. Or you want a window to pop up to remind you to call a customer at a specific time. Where does this logic go? It's not GUI/action-oriented, and it's not logic that would be appropriate for a repository, I think.

  VB.NET 2008 .NET 3.5 I have two base classes that are MustInherit (partial). Let's call one class OrderBase and the other OrderItemBase. A specific type of order and order item would inherit from these classes. Let's call these WebOrder (inherits from OrderBase) and WebOrderItem (inherits from OrderItemBase). • How do I Benchmark RESTful Service with Variable Parameters?

  I'm currently working on benchmarking a RESTful service I've made, and part of that is making sure it runs in a reasonable amount of times for a large array of parameters. For example, let's say I have RESTful API of the form some_site.com/item?item_id=y. In that case to be sure my service is working as fast as I'd like it to work, I'd want to try out many values for y one by one, preferably coming from some text file. I can't figure out any way of doing this in ab or httperf. I'm open to using a different benchmarking program if I have, but would prefer something simple and light. What I want to do seems like something pretty standard, so I'm guessing there must already be a program that let's me do it, but an hour or so of googling hasn't gotten me an answer. Ideas?

  I'm working on complex user control(with Telerik components). I'm trying to implement following functionality: Typing some text in RadTextBox(let say: "Hello.txt"). Clicking on Button "Check". onClientClick for button "Check" will call WCF method with parameters. Let say that this request/response will take more that 10 seconds, meanwhile I'll see loading image near TextBox AND the most important, I can continue to work on other fields.   I have 2 different databases. Upon changing something in the big one (i don't have access to), i get some rows imported in my databases in a similar HUGE table. I have a job checking for records in this table, and if any, execute a stored procedure, process and delete from table. Performance. (Huge amount of data) I would like to know what is the fastest way to know if something has changed using let's say 2 imported rows with 100 columns each. Don't have FK-s, don't need. Chances are, that even though I have records in my table, nothing has actually changed. Also. Let's say there is actually changed something. Is it possible for example to check only for changes inside datetime columns? Thanks

• Creating a virtual, data-driven section of a Wordpress-powered site

  Hello all, I want to create a plugin for wordpress to automatically serve pages containing data pulled from a provider's API. The API returns one or more records containing data for that record and I simply want to have the plugin intercept the request, call the API with parameters pulled from the request URI and display the data using a template that I can either let them upload to the server or let them copy and paste into the plugins admin settings. For example, I may want one of my wordpress installations to show products pulled from such an API under the url "example.com/products". The plugin would catch that request, extract the variables from the URL, call the API and render the template with the returned results. I'd like to avoid requiring editing the .htaccess file like some caching plugins do. Some of the admins of these pages won't know how to do that or simply won't have access to the .htaccess file.   I'm working on a web app for my company that will let us do some image tagging stuff, and I'd like to be able to generates results in the form of a CSV file. I can do this easily enough by dumping the CSV data to a div or something on the page and having the user copy it out. I'd rather have them hit the a generate button and have a CSV file downloaded as though they clicked on a link to the result, so they can more easily just save the file somewhere convenient. Is it possible to simulate this kind of thing with javascript? I basically want to dynamically generate the file and then let them download it, client side.

And the text does not fit (the text is clipped -- i.e. only small portion of text is visible). The question is -- what is the width of the entire text (visible + not visible parts)? The background (big picture) I have a window width DataGrid (WPF standard) as main widget which contains text. I try to resize window and DataGrid in such way, that all texts will be visible without need of resizing and/or scrolling. I focus on width. The size of the window vs. size of the screen is not an issue, the text is so short that it would fit even on netbook screen.

• Can somehow show progress on file upload without using AJAX?

  Let's say that I upload a file using a basic multipart post. The server then receives the request and starts to execute the server side code. Can I somehow in that state start to output the response and after some data is sent start to receive the file? Finally when the file is uploaded I output the rest of the response. If this is possible I can display file upload progress without using ajax? I guess this might depend on what I run server side. But let's assume that I have full network control.

• Can I use a single MySQL query to select distinct rows and then non-distinct rows if a limit hasn't

  I hope I'm explaining this properly, my knowledge of MySQL is quite limited. Let's say I have a table with rows that have name and shape fields. I'd like to select a bunch of rows from a table, but return all of the rows with unique shape field values first. If I have less than a certain number of rows, let's say 7, then I'd like to fill the remaining result rows with non-unique shape rows. The best way I can word it is that they're "ordered by uniqueness, and then by some other value". So, I don't want: square, square, circle, circle, rectangle, square, triangle I'd like to have: square, circle, rectangle, triangle, square, square, circle Is this possible to do using a single SQL query? I'm using MySQL with PHP, if that makes any difference. Thanks!

The activity A is the one that gets started when I start my app. From A I start B using startActivity(A.this, B.class), this goes well. What goes wrong is when I want to start the activity C from B. this how the manifestfile looks like: <activity android:name=".B"/> <activity android:name=".C"/> I know that I can do the follwoings: start B from A and then from B go back to A and then start C or let B has its own manifestfile thus a stand lone app, and let C be an activity within this app. Any suggestion is welcome.   Hi, let's say you have an game server which creating text log files of gamers actions, and from time to time you need to lookup something in those logs files (like investigating an scam or loosing an item). Just for example you have 100 files and each file have size between 20MB and 50MB - How you would search them quickly? What I have already tried to do is create several threads and each invidual thread will map his own file to memory (let say memory should not be problem if it not exceed 500MB of ram) perform search here, result was something around 1 second per file : File:a26.log - read in: 0.891, lines: 625282, matches: 78848 Is there better way how to do that ? - because it seems to me kinda slow. thanks. (java was used for this case)
