Can I install MDM 2008 SP1 with WSUS 3.1 SP2?
It fails telling me I need WSUS 3.0 SP1 or higher.. but since I have SP2 shouldn't it work?
I'm installing on Server 2008
I want to install Ubuntu from a non bootable Ubuntu disk. I currently have Windows XP installed. How can I do that?
My intention is to remove Windows completely.
I'm having an issue with our NSMExpress box. I'm trying to manage all our devices, range from ns5gt to ssg320m, and some of those devices have addresses assigned by dhcp from the ISP (like pppoe or dsl). The addresses are actually static but we have the register the MAC address in order to get this address. I can actually add the device in NSM except the IP that's on the untrust side isn't imported in as it's dynamic. Because of this I cannot change many options that pertian to the untrust interface as there is no IP.
I've talked to JTAC on this and they didn't know if there was a way to do this or not but then they stated that Tim Hortons does this so I'm confused on how to get this working. Maybe i'm just missing something as I imagine that other people must be doing this as well. Any assistance is appreciated!
Furthermore when I import a device this is the message I get:
Warnings:
Interface ethernet0/0 is a pppoe/dhcp/pppoa client and its ip is NOT IMPORTED because it may be dynamic.
I use OS X, Linux, Solaris and windows for work and from home. There are good tools that allow me to manage the many logins/passwords required platform independently. But mostly they expect me to carry a thumb-drive around or require direct access to a central location (a sky drive in the cloud).
The thumb-drive is too easily lost (= synchronized backup needed), the central location not always reachable/ mountable. Besides company policy rightly prevents this often.
Is there a tool that allows me to add passwords locally and then syncs it's DB with the "mother-ship" later. Or is there another approach that you use, that solves my problem?
EDIT My question is more about "synchronize" than cross platform. I've evaluated (=read feature list) some good cross platform tools, but need one that does the synchronizing for me. By synchronize I mean "merge two versions" not "replace (hopefully) old file with new." I'm not sure I'm always disciplined/awake enough to prevent data loss.
UPDATE Lifehacker just posted that AgileSolutions now have a beta version of 1Password for Windows.
Hello, I have successfully setup gitosis on my server thanks to this helpful howto.
Versions:
Server: CentOS 5
Desktop: Windows 7
Git (on Desktop): 1.6.5.1.1367.gcd48
Client: TortoiseGit 1.3.2.0 (with msysgit 1.6.1)
How can I clone a Git repository from my server when my SSH port is non the default (22)?
I believe that the URL ssh://[email protected]:3031/gitosis-admin.git works, but I get:
'/gitosis-admin.git' does not appear
to be a git repository
Thank you.
Hello,
Among the millions of applications written for Windows, I assume there are probably quite a lot that are too old or too sloppy to run without administrative rights.
To convert users to using non-admin accounts in their day-to-day use of Windows, I need a tool that will sort applications between those than can run safely as non-admin and those that expect to have those rights and will thus show some obvious or not-so-obvious wrong behavior as a result.
Does someone know of such a tool that would be available for XP/Vista/7, and either scan the whole disk for unsafe applications, or would be started at boot time and lurk in the background so that it would show a pop-up and report applications that triggered an error because of this lack of admin rights?
Thank you.
i am looking for some custom scripts to pull information on perfomance data counters being collected by OpsMgr. Does anyone have any scripts they are currently using?
I would like to install clearcase 7.1 on AIX. but i'm not system admin of this server i can get root password for install only. i worry if after install i cannot configure or manage Clearcase by another user. so i would like to install by non-root user.
The other day my girlfriend used my computer to use one of those additional resource CD's that come with text books. This particular CD worked by acting like what seemed like a web server that hosted a site that the student is supposed to use (cgi-bin, python scripts...the whole deal).
Today, I opened task manager to shut down some rogue IE's and got the following in an error popup with the title taskmgr.exe - Wrong Volume and Cancel/Try Again/Continue buttons:
The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume DosageCalc into drive D:
(FYI: DosageCalc = nursing student)
Clicking Cancel or Continue lets me continue to task manager. The CD hasn't been in the drive for days and I've used it since then with no problems. Where could task manager be holding onto this reference? My guess would be the registry somewhere...but I don't even know where to begin looking.
Hi,
I am running Fusion 2.0.6 (196839) on an iMac running 10.6.2 with 3 user accounts (1 Administrator). I have Fusion set up to share the Guest OS, and it's been working splendidly for nearly a year. Within the Guest OS (Windows XP PRO), there are also 3 user accounts (1 Administrator).
Last night I went to back up my VM to an external drive, and to minimize the file size and transfer time, I deleted all Snapshots but the most-recent one. I then backed up the VM externally (28.23 GB).
Today, one of my users tried to launch the Guest OS from within her user account, and received the following error message:
"File Not Found: Windows XP Pro-000006.vmdk
"This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, please provide its new location."
My two choices are Cancel and Browse.
When I browse, I can locate the Windows XP Pro-000006.vmdk file, which appears to be contained within the VM file (Windows XP Pro.vmwarevm). However, it still won't launch from a non-Admin user account. If I view the package contents of the VM file from the user account, the above file is present and appears to be created upon each launch of the Guest OS.
If I go back to my Administrator account on the Mac and then launch Fusion, the Guest OS works perfectly for all 3 user accounts within XP Pro.
I have tried to delete the Guest OS from Fusion's Library within the problem user account, then re-connect it to that Library, but the result is the same. The Guest OS data integrity is 100% -- but is accessible only from the OS X Administrator account.
This problem only surfaced after deleting several older Snapshots. Again, the data is there, the Guest OS powers up normally in the Mac's Administrator account, but persistently returns the above error when attempting to power on from a non-Admin account on the Mac.
I'm not sure how this is affecting the error, but when I look at Hard Disk Settings, the "unable-to-locate" file is the filename of the virtual HD. I don't want to make any changes to my (working) VM without any advice from the knowledgeable people on this forum.
Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Hi
I run as admin on my machine and want to run an executable as non admin user from the command prompt (without logging off).
I'm running on windows 7 64 bit OS.
Is possible?
Thanks.
While installing SCOM 07 R2 Database component on our DB server I get this error...
I've gotten the same error on the following configurations.
Windows Server 2003 & SQL Server 2008 SP1
Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008 SP2
Ever since I started using Amazon's S3 service I've been struggling to find a good solution for simple file management, without having to write my own app to browse my buckets, upload and delete files, etc.
The best I've found so far to do this is S3Fox. But it's far from perfect, it has problems deleting files and folders. Comments on the Firefox plugin page indicate I'm not the only person with this problem and the developer does not respond to emails.
I've looked around briefly, but couldn't find anything that looked any better than S3Fox.
Please tell me there's a better way!
Edit (07/26/2009): The Firefox S3Fox extension seems to be getting love from its developer again, the problems I was having before have gone away, and I'm using it on a regular basis now with no problems!
I am a Linux/UNIX user and love the package management that comes with it. For the most part, I like Ubuntu, but just like anything else, it is the minor things that you live with daily that would be nice if they just worked. My main issue is my wacom tablet while it works, every time there is an OS update, I have to rebuild the wacom driver. The other slightly annoying issue is, my ATI video card is not fully supported. When I use the HDMI out, the sound doesn't go through it, and the screen is not entirely used.
I would happily get an Apple if it had a similar package management system like Ubuntu, Gentoo, or other Linux distribution. This takes the work out of getting the latest enhancements or fixes. It also takes all the guess work out about what you need to get something to work. I just want to use my computer, not administer it.
Aside from Apple applications, if I wanted to install the GIMP on an apple, would it go and fetch ufraw if I wanted support for that and whatever other dependencies GIMP has? If I want Netbeans installed, will it go and get a JDK and maven if I want that?
If not, is there something in the works?
I know I don't update my applications that frequently, but that is mainly because I'm not aware of the updates. The updates all happen in the background.

Few days ago, I click on Most Visited, right click Facebook and select Forget about this site. Of course, all of my history, bookmarks and 6 saved passwords are gone
Yesterday, I installed LassPass add-on, and only import Firefox saved password
When I open Firefox, goto Facebook, all of my 6 password are appeared
So, my question is, when I select Forget about this site, did Firefox remove my passwords completely?
Hi All:
Having an issue installing the CCMsetup client on desktops. The CCMSetup makes it to the PC, files are there, it gets added to the services for automatic start, it starts, but quits almost instantly.
Logs on the desktop show a entry like this.
<![LOG[Failed to successfully complete HTTP request. (StatusCode at WinHttpQueryHeaders: 404)]LOG]!><time="14:28:51.183+240" date="06-11-2009" component="ccmsetup" context="" type="3" thread="2388" file="ccmsetup.cpp:5808">
What am I missing?
EDIT: Firewall is off on both client and server.
I have a bunch of applications I carry around on a small flash drive, but I find it hard to keep everything up to date. I know about portableapps.com, but are there any other websites / repositories / resources on the subject? Ideally I'd like something that can manage both the 'installation' and updates for a range of tools.
The official recommendation of Ubuntu is to use sudo do-release-upgrade to do an online upgrade from one version to the next. Historically many of my Debianite friends and myself have simply altered apt's sources.list and run apt-get dist-upgrade.
I follow Ubuntu's recommendations, but I've always wondered what the magic difference between these two processes is. What, exactly, does do-release-upgrade do, on say an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10? (Examples from other releases welcome.)
Dear ladies and sirs.
I have a need to create a self signed certificate non interactively. Unfortunately, the only tool that I know of (makecert) is interactive - it uses GUI to ask for a password.
My OS is Windows (from XP to 2008).
The only thing close that I managed to find is http://www.codeproject.com/Tips/125982/How-to-run-Makecert-without-password-window.aspx, however, it is still not good.
Any ideas?
How can I enable non-admin users to run a certain application (in my case, a script) with admin permissions on Windows XP?
This would be similar to the setuid bit on *nix.
Hi,
I currently use KeePassX to manage my passwords on my Linux (Xubuntu) machine. It's nice to have all the passwords encrypted, but sometimes I'd like to be able to tell a password when I'm on the run.
Therefore I'm looking for a solution which I can synchronize with my phone. I have a Nokia N82 which is a Symbian OS v9.2 based phone for the S60 3rd Edition platform with Feature Pack 1.
I like an open source solution if it's possible. In case it isn't I wouldn't mind paying for a good solution. If Windows may be added to the synchronization mix it's nice, but it's absolutely not a primary requirement (I don't even have any computer running Windows).

Say I got some files in Chinese and some files in Korean. And in windows 'Region and Language Options', I set language for non-unicode program = Chinese. Is there any way that I can read some Korean text file in text editor easily without using Microsoft Word?
I need an environment that can support multiple unicode easily, I need to read Chinese, Japanese, Korean in text editor (Ultraeditor, notepad++) and terminal clients like SecureCRT. Please advise, thanks.
According to the documentation, a management group should have an odd number of managers greater than 1. I have a four node SAN consisting of P4500 G2s. I plan on having two clusters with two nodes each in this management group, i.e.:
-Managent_Group1
-Cluster1
-Node1
-Node2
-Cluster2
-Node3
-Node4
Are there any issues running standard managers on Node1, Node2, and Node3? After reading the documentation, I'm still unclear about whether or not cluster membership matters in quorum consistency, or if they don't matter at all.
Do any Xen VPS web front end managers exist for provisioning and managing virtual private servers?
I am comfortable on the command line creating new virtual machines, however it would be nice if i could use a nice web front end.
