    hundreds of our clients around the country have a vb6/MS Access app. The boss needs them to talk to each other, eg client A creates a new task in client B's database, and status updates go back to A. I'm trying to design a WCF system that can accomplish this using a centralized service talking to a service of some kind installed on each client. What I'm wondering is, how the central system knows the address of the clients, ie determine and consume services on the fly? What's a good architecture to fit these requirements?

    I just started using git with github. I followed their instructions and ran into errors on the last step. I'm checking in an existing directory that isn't currently source-controlled (project about a week old). Other than that, my use case should be pretty run of the mill.     hellow all i am using svn for version control for an iphone application . i have created it from xcode repositories by giving url ,user name and password its authenticated .After that i have created a directory from there itself and have imported my project there. Then i have checked out to the local directory and have updated something in it. Click on commit changes. It done. After that i came to terminal to commit the project first time from terminal .There i have removed the build of the project then gave a command like "svn update". here i am getting error like svn: PROPFIND request failed on '/svn/pacman/GameDevelopment/Game'and 403 Forbidden error whts going wrong here? could any one help me in this ? This entire process requires a scanner for the applicant to scan his photo / signature into an appropriate size. Is there a better way to capture user identity for such purposes as usage of scanner for capturing signature, photo is a painful process.

  • Git: removing selected commits from repository

    I would like to remove selected commits from a linear commit tree, so that the commits do not show in the commit log. My commit tree looks something like: R--A--B--C--D--E--HEAD I would like to remove the B and C commits. So that they do not show in the commit log, but changes from A to D should be preserved. Maybe by introducing a single commit, so that B and C become BC and the tree looks like. R--A--BC--D--E--HEAD Or, ideally, after A comes D directly. D' representing changes from A to B, B to C and C to D. R--A--D'--E--HEAD Is this possible? if yes, how? Some notes that might be helpful: This is a fairly new project so has no branches as of now, hence no merges as well. Side note: It's a personal project, so no, I'm not trying to destroy any evidence :)

    For music there is the Gracenote CDDB SDK, etc. but does an online service exist for getting information about movies? The only solution i can see at the minute is querying IMDB and scraping the page. The problem i have is that i have a list of film titles and i want to retrieve stuff like the plot, director, cast, when released, get dvd cover art, etc..

    For example, if you want information of PHP functions, you can go to http://www.php.net/ . If you want information of Perl functions you can to to http://www.cpan.org/ and/or use perldoc. If you want information on Java you can go to http://java.sun.com and/or use javadoc. However, if you want information on Javascript methods/functions and their attributes, return values, etc. where do you go? The reason I ask is I was playing with the "focus()" method and wondering if it could be passed any values or if it returned anything when called.   • What is branched in a repository?

    Ok I hope that this will end up sounding like a reasonable question. From what I understand of subversion if you have a repo that contains multiple projects, then you can branch individual projects within that repo (see SVN Red book - Using Branches) However what I don't quite follow is what happens when you create a branch in one of the distributed systems (Git, Hg, Bazaar - I don't think it matters which one). Can you branch just a sub-directory of the repo, or when you create the branch are you branching the entire repo? This question is part of a larger one that I posted on superuser (choice and setup of version control) and has come about as I am trying to figure out how to best version control a large hierarchal layout of independent projects. It may be that for distributed systems that what I would like to do is best handled by a sub-project mechanism of some sort - but again that is something I am not clear on although I have heard the term mentioned in regards to git.

I'd like to schedule a cron job to publish our repositories current HEADs every hour into a certain directory in the SVN repo.
