• How to use Git properly with XCode?

  I have been an iphone developer for a while, and I have recently been including git in my workflow. I have used git settings found on http://shanesbrain.net/2008/7/9/using-xcode-with-git for my workflow so far. Those settings tell git to exclude *.pbxproj from merges? Is there a real reason for doing this? For example, when I add a file to the project and push to origin, my fellow developers will not have that file added to their xcode project when they pull. Then if one of them builds a release this file may not be included. Shouldn't I just let git handle the merges for the project file? Could someone please explain why or why not this file should be in merges and how to properly handle the situation when files are added to the project. Thanks.

• Commit SVN working copy into Git repository

  I am currently working on a checked out SVN project along with some plugins for that project. I want to keep all of this work - including the current version of my SVN checkout within a single git repository. I thought I had achieved this by checking in the SVN working copy to git. However, when I did a pull on a new computer the SVN working copy had been corrupted. In particular it seemed that git had not checked it any of the .svn/tmp/ and .svn/props/ folders. I have now made a fresh checkout of the SVN project. Is there a way for me to add the ignored folders to my git repo (git status ignores them even though my .gitignore is empty) or force SVN to regenerate them?

• How do I get the median/mode/range of a column in SQL using Java?

  I have to get the median, mode and range of test scores from one column in a table but I am unsure how to go about doing that. When you connect to the database using java, you are normally returned a ResultSet that you can make a table or something out of but how do you get particular numbers or digits? Is there an SQL command to get the median/mode/range or will I have to calculate this myself, and how do you pull out numbers from the table in order to be able to calculate the mode/median/range? • Is there a way to preserve HTML Formatting in LiveDocX?

  I have a large amount of content stored in a database as XHTML. I need to be able to pull this formatted content into a simple LiveDocX template with the formatting (bold, italic, bulleted lists, etc) preserved. Is this possible? If so, can anybody post a working example or link to an article? If not, are there other applications that I could look into? The client needs to be able to export content in the .doc/.docx file format. Thanks, Peter

Suggestions? I have tried preg_replace but can't seem to get my expression right.

• Get Rails to save a record to the database in a non-UTC time

  Is there a way to get Rails to save records to the database without it automagically converting the timestamp into UTC before saving? The problem is that I have a few models that pull data from a legacy database that saves everything in Mountain Time and occasionally I have to have my Rails app write to that database. The problem is that every time it does, it converts the time I give it from Mountain Time to UTC, which is 6-7 hours ahead (depending on DST)! Needless to say, this really messes with reporting on that database. If I could get around doing this, I would. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about the fact that this other database uses a different timezone, nor can I really get away from the need for this app to save to that database occasionally. If I could just get Rails to stop trying to help me, it'd be great.

• SQL Temp Tables & Replication

  I have had an issue with our replication process and would like to salvage some data. I have a process in place where I will connect to each subscriber before flagging them for reinitialization and I will run the below to pull any data they may have entered in during the "dark time". I am pretty sure this will work in a vanilla palace. What I am unsure of is whether the Global Temporary Table will persist through DB Replication. To be clear, I am not trying to Replicate the TempTable, I just want to make sure it will still exist at the local DB after the Replication so I may run the INSERT from it. Thoughts? • Why does my regex fail when the number ends in 0?

  This is a really basic regex question but since I can't seem to figure out why the match is failing in certain circumstances I figured I'd post it to see if anyone else can point out what I'm missing. I'm trying to pull out the 2 sets of digits from strings of the form: 12309123098_102938120938120938 1321312_103810312032123 123123123_10983094854905490 38293827_1293120938129308 I'm using the following code to process each string: if($string && $string =~ /^(\d)+_(\d)+$/) { if(IsInteger($1) && IsInteger($2)) { print "success ('$1','$2')"; } else { print "fail"; } } Where the IsInterger() function is as follows: sub IsInteger { my $integer = shift; if($integer && $integer =~ /^\d+$/) { return 1; } return; } This function seems to work most of the time but fails on the following for some reason: 1287123437_1268098784380 1287123437_1267589971660 Any ideas on why these fail while others succeed?   Possible Duplicate: How do I include functions from another file in my Perl script? I have a couple simple perl scripts that share some subroutines. I'd like to pull those subroutines out into another file, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that. All I need is an equivalent to C's #include. I found a couple things online about creating modules, but that seems like overkill for what I'm doing. Is there a way to just tell perl to load/execute another perl script inline, so it's treated as if it's just part of the file (like #include in C)?

I can do everything except for the side inclusion with: SELECT scenario_needunits.scenID, unit_basic_data.nation, unit_basic_data.name FROM scenario_needunits LEFT OUTER JOIN unit_basic_data ON scenario_needunits.unitID=unit_basic_data.unitID WHERE scenario_needunits.scenID='scen001' ORDER BY unit_basic_data.nation ASC, unit_basic_data.name ASC I've tried just dropping the SCENARIO_NATIONS table in as a LEFT OUTER JOIN on scenID but what ends up happening is that ALL units come back with a side of 1 because that's always the first side listed for the scenID in the SCENARIO_NATIONS table. Conceptually, what I think needs to happen is SCENARIO_NATIONS must be joined to both the scenID (to restrict it to just that scenario) and to each unit's nation but I don't have any idea how to do that and my Google-fu is inadequate. :-/

Whereas It shows the results in table adapter configuration wizard when I try through query builder. I am using date time picker in the form. • How to create a 'Hot or Not' website

  Hi guys, I'd like to create a website with similar concept as 'Hot or Not' where users need to sign up to the website and then upload photos. Each photo can be given a description and some additional fields. Other users may comment and rate the photo entries. On top of that, users may favourite/bookmark (and remove) any photo entries and they're accessible via their profile page That's generally how the website will be. Can't decide on a CMS to use Somehow I'm at a crossroad here. I've done some research and found that Joomla has an extension that is able to pull this website off but the thing is I'm not that comfortable with using Joomla. I work with WordPress most of the time, but I can't seem to figure out how would I build this website with WordPress. Would using BuddyPress make it work? Would hiring a plugin developer to customize some plugins work? What do you guys think?

• Why TortoiseHg not show the "merge conflict"?

  Short version of the question: Since I already have TortoiseHg, I right clicked on that file trying to see the merge conflict visually, but there is no way to see it? Details: To make a simple case of merge conflict, I hg init a repo on Win 7, and then clone it to another folder. Now, in one working directory, i added the line "the code is 123", committed. And in the other folder, i did an "hg pull" and "hg update" Now, I go back to the first folder, and change "123" to "123abc", and then do an "hg commit" And then I go to the other folder and edit "123" to "123xyz" over there, and do an "hg commit", and when "hg push", it says it can't. So I try to use any visual tool to see how the conflict is like, but ... TortoiseHg doesn't seem to have any option to do that?

• How to index and search .doc files

  I have an application that needs to have .doc files uploaded to it. These documents should then be index and the whole collection of documents should be searchable. This will run on a Windows Server, without Word installed, using IIS and SqlServer, but I'd rather not be tied to SqlServer's full text indexing. I was thinking of using Lucene.Net for the indexing part and was wondering what the best way to get the text out of the .doc files would be. I could probably extract the text by reading in the whole stream and then using a regEx to pull out any regular characters, but that seems hefty and prone to error. I saw an article on using iFilters that sounds promising, but I thought I'd put this out there since it's not something I'm familiar with. P.S. If it matters, these .doc files will have mail-merge fields in them and there's no other current alternative for the .doc format.

• Make user object available to all Controllers in Zend?

  Hey guys, I'm using Zend_Auth to identify a user in my application. This creates a session with the userobject. My question is how do I make this object available to every Controller and action, so I don't have to pull it out of the session every time I need data from this object? I'm guessing this should be done in bootstrap.php or index.php but I don't really know how to makte it available to every controller.. so any code examples would be appreciated! Thanks!

• Replacing TCP/IP pipe with WCF

  So currently my company is using a TCP/IP connection to talk between server and client programs, right now we are building this connection using System.RunTime.Remoting, which is clunky and not that reliable. It was built about 5 years ago and the model keeps getting reused and it's starting to propagate some issues, ports used, refused connections, etc. I'm trying to find some resources on how to change this over to WCF but I'm not really sure what I am looking for or what I should be searching. If you want some more information on what were actually doing with it I can go into some detail, but I'll need to pull up the code and make sure I explain it completely. thanks!

• In MS Access is there a way to allow forms to update while maintaning Read Only

  I have several forms linked tables via queries. The form pull data such as sales and ratios by selecting a product from the main's form's combo box. I am however having to issues: 1- I would ultimately prefer the combo box to be a free entry; however by just entering in the box and hitting enter (not a button called “enter on a screen” which would initiate recalcs, just normal enter), while it does bring the new information in sub-forms it also changes the information in the original table. If I make the table read only that it just doesn't allow the form to work by saying that the table is read only. 2- The same Read only issue occurs when another user with read only rights tries to use the database. I understand that ready only is functioning as intended, however I am wondering if there is way to make some functions work while disallowing the updating. I am unfortunately learning on the go, so go easy plz. Thank you

  Hi there! I had one Git repository (A) which contains the development of a project until a certain point. Then I lost the USB stick this repo A was on. Luckily I had a backup of the latest commit, so I could create a new repository (B) later where I imported the latest project's state and continue development. Now I recovered that lost USB stick, so I have two Git repositories. I think I just have to rebase repo B onto repo A somehow, but I have no idea how to do that, maybe using fetch/pull and rebase?   PHP/MySQL newbie question. I have a database I've imported into my local phpmyadmin. However it seems I can't access it from my a php application. The connection string seems right and when I try to authenticate user credentials to access database information, no problems. However authenticate everyone and knows when I put in fake credentials. Still it won't pull any other information from the database. For instance, once a users login they should see something like, "Hello username", that kind of thing. At this point I see "Hello" without the username. Any ideas what i might be missing?

  Hi all, I am csv.reader to pull in info from a very long sheet. I am doing work on that data set and then I am using the xlwt package to give me a workable excel file. However, I get this error: UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0x92 in position 34: ordinal not in range(128) My question to you all is, how can I find exactly where that error is in my data set? Also, is there some code that I can write which will look through my data set and find out where the issues lie (because some data sets run without the above error and others have problems)?

However, I'm hitting a brick wall trying to come up with a solution in LINQ.

• MySQL Cluster data nodes - slow SELECTs

  Hi to all. First off, I'm new to MySQL Cluster. This is my pain: I've managed to setup a MySQL Cluster with two data nodes, two SQL nodes and one management server. Everything works pretty well, except the following: my data nodes are spread across an intranet link which incurs latency into communications between the data nodes. Apparently, due to MySQL Cluster's internal partitioning schemes, when my PHP application pulls data from the cluster via SELECT queries, parts of the data are pulled from both data nodes. This makes the page appear onscreen REALLY slowly. If I bring one data node offline, the data can only be pulled from that single remaining data node, and thus, the final result (HTML output) appears on the screen in a very timely fashion. So, my question is this: can the data nodes/cluster be told to pull data from partitions stored only on a particular data node?

  I've got my claims set-up with MVC3 using azure and everything is going well. What I need to do now is extend the Claims Identity that's in the current thread / http context and add my own information (DOB, Address.. that sort of stuff) so my question is - where is the best place to do this? any examples would be great.. I presume that when the user is authenticated id then have to go to the DB and pull back the relevant record for the user then add it to the custom Claims Identity object? cheers. ste.

• Recalling import in module

  I'm still learning python and after playing around with pygame I noticed I'm re-importing things in modules I'm importing that I've already imported. import pygame For instance I have some classes in a separate file, but I must also import pygame into that file too for them to work. Does it actually import the code twice? Will it slow down my program? Or does it just pull the same import from before, but if it does that, why would I need to import it? Is there anything like (load) in lisp that just pulls in the code like it is part of the main file? Thank You
