• SQL - suppressing duplicate *adjacent* records

  I need to run a Select statement (DB2 SQL) that does not pull adjacent row duplicates based on a certain field. In specific, I am trying to find out when data changes, which is made difficult because it might change back to its original value. That is to say, I have a table that vaguely resembles: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 12, Mar A, 12, Apr A, 9, May A, 9, Jun A, 5, Jul And I want to get the results: A, 5, Jan A, 12, Feb A, 9, May A, 5, Jul discarding adjacent duplicates but keeping the last row. The obvious: Select Letter, Number, Min(Month) from Table group by Letter, Number does not work -- it doesn't include the last row.

  I'm putting together a few documents using DocBook. Almost all of them will refer to each other in some way, so I put together a bibliography section (using <bibliography). Is there some way, e.g. using <olink>, to automatically pull in the titles of the other documents? <biblioentry id="foo"> <abbrev>FOO</abbrev> <title>what do I put here?</title </biblioentry>

• Grabbing Data From Controls In Code Behind

  Hopefully this is a pretty simple question for someone to answer. I have a drop down list control that I need to pull the value from in the code behind of the page, modify it and redisplay it. The modifying and redisplaying I've got no problem with, it's grabing the value from the drop down control. Examples in C# would be appreciated as this web app I've been handed is already coded that way. I'm pretty new to .Net so be gentle and I already did some searching via Google and a little bit on the site here, but couldn't find anything that stood out as being the direction to go in to do this.

• How to use git feature branches with live updates and merge back to master?

  I have a production website where master is checked out and a development webiste where I develop in feature branches. When a feature is merged into master I do this on the development site: (currently on the new-feature branch) $ git commit -m"new feature finished" $ git push $ git checkout master $ git merge new-feature $ git push And on the production site: (currently on master branch) $git pull This works for me. But sometimes the client calls and needs a small change on the website quickly. I can do this on production on master and push master and this works fine. But when I use a feature branch for the small change I get a gap: (On production on branch master) $ git branch quick-feature $ git checkout quick-feature $ git push origin quick-feature $ edit files... $ git add . $ git commit -m"quick changes" $ git push # until this point the changes are live $ git checkout master #now the changes are not live anymore GAP $ git merge quick-feature # now the changes are live again $ git push I hope I could make clear the intention of this workflow. Can you recommend something better?

• Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

  When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

• producing a typewriter-like effect

  Android newb here. Please use small words :-) I'd like to simulate typewriter output on my Android. The output being displayed is generated by a game and is somewhat freeform. The effect I want to see individual characters appear at a rate of about 6 characters a second. When a 'carriage return' is seen, I'd like to insert a delay then resume typing on the left. What are some suggestions on views? Would the view of choice for this be a TextView? Even that seems like overkill for this read-only coarsely scrolling output. I saw something on this thread about an AsyncTask. That looks useful. Perhaps my game will write to some manner of buffer, and a subclass of AsyncTask will pull characters out every .15 seconds or so, add them to the TextView, then invalidate() the TextView? Sound like a plan?

• How do I find the IP address of a GPRS modem?

  I want to pull data from a device that is accessed via a serial protocol and has a GPRS modem attached which should allow transparent access over an IP connection. It seems to me that this approach is upside down, because how should I know at which IP address the device currently is? Unfortunately, the device itself is rather dumb, so I can't make it send something to my server, which would reveal the current IP. For home routers on dialup lines, there's dynamic DNS services. Is there something equivalent in the mobile world? Each modem would, of course, have its phone number as a reliable address, but how does that help me? Practically all material on GPRS etc. that I can find online seems to be concerned with initiating the connection from the modem side, since that's what the system is designed for.

• Why does this VBS scheduled task (to call a URL) not work in Windows Server 2008?

  This same script worked in older server OS environments, and even on my desktop; and allows me to kick off a nightly process on my website's URL. It simply will not execute the URL in my Windows Server 2008 environment. It does not generate any errors, claiming task completion I can pull the same URL up just fine in the server's web browser I have the script running with "highest privileges" I even tried to create a batch file which executes it, so I can explicitly "Run as Administrator" and it still will not execute the URL (but will not generate any errors either).   I'm trying to work out a good method to manage code changes on a large project with multiple teams. We use subversion at the moment, but I want more flexibility in building a new release than I seem to be able to get with subversion. Here's roughly I want: for each developer to create easily identifiable patches for the project. Each patch delivers a complete user story (a releasable feature or fix). It might encompass many changes to many files. developers are able to easily apply and remove their own and other patches to facilitate testing release manager selects the patches to be used in the next release into a new branch branch is tested, fixes merged in, and ultimately merged into live teams can then pull these changes back down into their sandboxes. I'm looking at stacked git as a way of achieving this, but what other tools or techniques can deliver this sort of workflow?

• jQuery: how to handle empty return from getJSON

  Alright so I have a php script which gets results from a DB, and to get those results I'm using a jQuery script to pull the results via getJSON. It works perfectly but now I want to do something if the php script returns no results (empty). I tried: $.getJSON('path/to/script'), {parameter:parameter}, function(data){ if (data) { alert('Result'); } else { alert('Empty); } }); But it's no good. I've tried different things like if (data.length) but still nothing. I've noticed that if there is no returned data the callback will never fire at all. So if that's the case, how do I handle a empty return?

• Comparing Page.User.Identity.Name to value in sql Table

  First, I am SO sorry if the answer is out there. I've looked and looked and feel this is such a simple thing that it should be obvious. I'm wanting to make sure only the person who added an event can modify it. Simple! I already have a datasource that has event_added_by as a data point. It is populating a FormView. SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM [tbl_events] WHERE ([event_ID] = @event_ID)" And I have Page.User.Identity.Name. How do I compare the two?   I have a master-detail page, in which I use GridView to display multiple rows of data, and DetailsView + jQuery dialog to display the details of a single records. only one DetailsView is open at a time. I need to be able to pull out a single field of the open DetailsView, for manipulation using JavaScript. Is there a way to give a unique ID to a given field in DetailsView, so I can use getElementByID? Or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Thank you in advance.

• Why is TargetInvocationException treated as uncaught by the IDE?

  I have some code that is using reflection to pull property values from an object. In some cases the properties may throw exceptions, because they have null references etc. try { child.Target = propertyInfo.GetValue(target, null); } catch (TargetInvocationException ex) { child.Target = ex.InnerException.Message; } catch (Exception ex) { child.Target = ex.Message; } Ultimately the code works correctly, however when I am running under the debugger : When the property throws an exception, the IDE drops into the debugger as if the exception was uncaught. If I just hit run, the program flows through and the exception comes out as a TargetInvocationException with the real exception in the InnerException property. How can I stop this from happening?

• Rails: How do I run a before_save only if certain conditions are met?

  I have a before_save method that I call that renames an uploaded image. before_save :randomize_file_name def randomize_file_name extension = File.extname(screen_file_name).downcase key = ActiveSupport::SecureRandom.hex(8) self.screen.instance_write(:file_name, "#{key}#{extension}") end That method is part of my Item model. That works great when I create a new item or need to update the image associated with an item...but the problem is that if I need to update an item but NOT the image, the randomize_file_name method still gets run and renames the file in the database (though not the file itself, obviously). So, I'm thinking I need to figure out a way to only run randomize_file_name if a file is included in the form submission...but I'm not sure how to pull that off.

I need to display the average and maximum wait times. How can I take the entire list of time from the server and get the average time? Also, what would be the best method to simply grab a new time from the server when it is updated without having to pull the whole list again? Thanks!

Now, when I make changes in Git I put a pretty decent log entry about what I've done. I'd love to have the Git commit log automatically posted to the development blog -- or otherwise available for others to read within the deployed site. Is there an automated way to pull the Git Commit Log into a view in a rails app?

  Hi all, I have a small amount of programing experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley but would like to make my own app for a certain website I frequent. I would like the website to be a little more user friendly for me instead of having to open browser etc. Is it possible to have a simple forum translated into a widget so you can see the forum posts and post from there? • ExtJS Grid slow with 3000+ records

  I am using ExtJS Grid and its getting pretty slow with 3000+ records. Sorting takes about 4 seconds. Compared to other more Javascript tables, this is pretty slow. I am thinking maybe to use pagination in my table. However after reading the documentation, I am still a bit unsure about how pagination works in extjs. Does this pull data from the server each time u turn a page? I would prefer that wasn't the case. I would prefer the 3000 records are saved in the browser and then what is rendered is just a portion of those rows. Also I am using Extjs version 4.2.1. If I upgrade to version 5. will I get some performance improvements?

A sample line that I might need to tokenise is f 11/65/11 16/70/16 17/69/17 I have a tokenisation method that splits strings into a vector as delimited by a string which may be useful static void Tokenise(const string& str, vector<string>& tokens, const string& delimiters = " ") The only way I can think of doing it is to tokenise with " " as a delimiter, remove the first item from the resulting vector, then tokenise each part by itself. Is there a good way to do this all in one?

  I am working on a web app and trying to code a form with two dropdown lists. The list in the second dropdown will be dependent on the selection from the first one. The task itself isn’t too complicated except that once the first selection is made, I need to make a database call to pull the data for the second dropdown. This is where I am having difficulty. Both lists are in fact populated from a database. I am working on this in a python script and have been trying to do this w/ an onChange javascript function. From each one of those derived Classes, there are further more two classes are derived each called ChildClassAA and ChildClassAB[AB stands for Bth Child class from the Ath Class.Lets not really pull our hair on this nomenclature]. Now, ideally, I want to declare a general type as a private member of another Class say IndependentClass which can be initialized during run time as either of the objects of type ClassAor ClassB or ClassC and even the derived classes like ClassAA or ClassAB. • Jquery select first letter?

  I am simply attempting to get jquery to identify the first letter of a paragraph. How would I do this? For example, I have a page with a number of paragrahs on a page. I would like only the paragraphs starting with a specified letter to be given the class "current" and all others to be hidden. I pretty much know how to add the class and hide the others but, I cant get jquery to recognize the first letter. Secondly, is it possible to pull this 'first letter' variable from the url string? For example, Page 1 - There is a list of letters. The user clicks 'B' and the url is http://domain.com/page2.html?letter=b And page2 picks up that variable (b) and applies it to the Jquery, showing only those paragraphs
