  • What is causing my newly built PC to BSOD?

    I recently built my own PC from parts and installed Windows 7 and I have been getting BSODs with various different stop codes. The latest was 0x24, but I've also had 0xd1 and 0x1e. However, Windows does not let me know where the fault occurred, so I have no idea how to go about resolving this. I've uploaded the last three minidumps in case someone can make sense out of them and let me know what could be causing my BSODs. Thanks, Ben

  • where is the best place to store portable apps in Windows 7

    I have a number of small portable apps and utilities. Where does Microsoft recommend we keep these? Lots of installed apps install themselves into \users{username}\appdata\local but it doesn't make much sense for me to put stuff there myself. \program files\ doesn't seem right either because non admin users don't have write access there. Is it recommended to create a \users{username}\applications directory?

    I'm trying to set up per-user trac instances, using fcgid. The problem is that trac requires rw access to the trac instance, so I need the fcgi process to run under the respective user. I have the suexec, fcgid, and userdir Apache modules installed (on Debian). I put up vhost directive ScriptAliasMatch /~(.*)/trac /home/$1/public_html/trac.fcgi This works insofar as trac.fcgi is run, but unfortunately, under the www-data user. How can I make fcgid launch it under the $1 user?

  • How to maximise a window within a Windows remote desktop session

    I'm logged in to a Windows 7 machine from a Windows 7 desktop, using the standard Remote Desktop client. Is there a key short cut to maximise a window within the remote desktop session (equivalent to Windows+up arrow)? I want the remote desktop session to NOT be full screen on my client machine, but to easily maximise windows on the remote session to the full size of the remote desktop window. Hope that makes sense. ;)

    A have a redirect rule in my .htaccess that forwards agent from A.html to B.html using the following pattern: Redirect 301 /A.html http://mysite.com/B.html Since the Redirect directive requires to set the target host, is it possible to let this rule prevail only on a specific host? I have both a test and deploy domain, and only want it on the deploy domain. I can set HTTP conditions for Rewrite rules, but how can I for HTTP Redirects?

  • Complete stack traces from Hyperic

    I've setup Hyperic to run on our CI-machine, and every once in a while it reacts to some random stack trace and sends of an alert. So far so good, we've caught a lot of intermittent bugs that way. My only issue is that the alert only contains the first error line and not the entire stack trace, which requires me to access the machine and look at the logs manually. Is there any way to modify the alert message to contain more information, alternatively to include the log file in the alert mail?

    I'm trying to get Sublime Text 2's command line alias working. The instructions make perfect sense: Run ln -s "/Applications/Sublime Text 2.app/Contents/SharedSupport/bin/subl" ~/bin/subl So, in ~/bin, subl exists. However, even when I restart terminal, the command 'subl' is not found. The path specified to the application's subl file is correct, I've verified that. Logging out does not fix it. Any help would be awesome!

    I am currently using robocopy to an extremely slow destination. The compare between source and destination files can take a while to run through. Since the destination will never change (apart from the robocopy changes), is there any program that will work similarly to robocopy, but have a local list of what files (attributes and timestamps) the destination has, to compare with? I know there are expensive solutions which may do this, but I'm looking for something free if possible. Hopefully this makes sense.

    I'm using HAProxy as a load balancer and i'd like to redirect any traffic that comes in on 443 (HTTPS) to 80 (HTTP). My site doesn't support HTTPS at all and i'd rather just redirect users than cause any SSL warnings in browsers. All I can find is using the redirect location <to> syntax, but as far as I can tell that requires me to hard code the hostname. The load balancer receives connections for various hostnames so would like to keep it relative.

    "Routers do not forward packets with link-local addresses." says Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Link-local_address) What I want to know is: that makes sense if the destination is a link-local address, but what if I have a box that only has a link-local address trying to reach a global/site scope address? Can the traffic make it back, or will that fail because the return packets will be to a link-local address?

By default, this is disabled, but after my colleague added the sites to the GPO pushing these in such form: *.domain.com it shows up as domain.com in her trusted sites. Has anyone encountered or even fixed this issue?

    Does anyone know how to either: Make ffmpeg set subtitle font size in the output video file Make mencoder produce an iPhone-compatible video file (with subtitles) I finally found out how to get Closed Captions video on iPhone, with mkv and srt files as source material. The secret was using the mov_text subtitle codec in ffmpeg (and turning on Closed Captions in the iPhone settings of course): ffmpeg -y -i in.mkv -i in.srt -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map 1:0 -vcodec copy -acodec aac -ab 256k -scodec mov_text -strict -2 -metadata title="Title" -metadata:s:s:0 language=eng out.mp4 However, the font size appears very small on the iPhone, and I can't find out how to set it with ffmpeg (the iPhone has no option for this). I found out that mencoder has a -subfont-text-scale option, but I don't have a lot of experience with this program. The following, my best attempt so far, produces an output file which is not playable on the iPhone. sudo port install mplayer +mencoder_extras +osd mencoder in.mkv -sub in.srt -o out.mp4 -ovc copy -oac faac -faacopts br=256:mpeg=4:object=2 -channels 2 -srate 48000 -subfont-text-scale 10 -of lavf -lavfopts format=mp4 PS!     In order to install gentoo, I need to connect to a university wireless internet network. It requires a username and password login/authentication. I'm wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of how to configure the internet connection. The Gentoo installation documentation recommends the use of net-setup, pppoe, pptp, dhcp and iwconfig. I can't figure out how to configure this connection, as the only way I understand is to select the network from a list and enter in authentication data from within a browser.

  • Able to connect to the net, but only through FF with proxies disabled.

    I guess I got a virus or something and it's screwing up my connections. I'm able to browse fine in Firefox with proxies disabled, but other than that I have no connection. Currently, I need to install a program, but it requires an internet connection, and it keeps running into connection errors - same problem the other day when trying to register a product I purchased. I usually can figure this stuff out, but this one has me baffled. Any help troubleshooting this would be much appreciated.

    Hi, I'm running ubuntu 9.10 which has gcc4 (libstdc++6) installed, and I need to install a program that requires libstdc++5 that comes with gcc3. I don't see gcc-3 listed when I run "apt-cache search" so: Is it necessary to install gcc-3 to achieve libstdc++5 ? If so where can I get it ? Is there a way to install just libstdc++5 Would a soft link to libstdc++6 do or is it not recommended ? Thanks
