• Using Xbox 360 controller with Mac OS X (specifically turning it off)

  So I've been using this driver for a few months with the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller For Windows with my Mac Mini. Here's an article about the driver on Gizmodo. The driver works really well for actually using the controller, but there doesn't seem to be a way to power off the controller without pulling the batteries. Does anyone know of a replacement driver that includes power-off capabilities, or know of some other undocumented way to turn the controller off? Note: I've been having problems getting to the site, but it could be our corporate filtering.

• Are there any home/soho NAS devices that will backup/sync to the cloud?

  Looking for a home office (SOHO) market (priced) network hard drive (NAS) that will sync some or all of its content to a cloud-based backup service. The only option I've been able to find so far is NetGear's [ReadyNAS Vault][1] however from what I've read it's not as secure as it could be, and the service is quite expensive ($200/yr for 50GB of cloud storage) - it's 'powered' by ElephantDrive Ideally would love to see something like Wuala integrated into a Lacie Network HDD - conveniently, I suspect this is in the works as Lacie recently acquired Wuala, however nothing has come of it yet. I know there are options to use rsync with a customizable NAS (such as the very versatile and hackable D-Link DNS-323, but the easier this is to setup and maintain, the better. Thanks! ps. What we really want is to distribute email's delivery between 2 or more servers. I was wondering What kind of aproach/solutions MailChimp , Constant Contact uses to provide a great service ? use many servers ? many IPs ? Our spam policy suspends ANY user/customer that gets 10% bounced .

• Send an Email at a future date

  I'd like to write up an email that gets sent out in a few days. I'd prefer to use Gmail, but I could use some other client if necessary. It doesn't look like Gmail has this feature in their labs anywhere, but it could just be hiding somewhere. Any ideas? EDIT: a bit more backstory on my particular situation. My wife is out of town for three weeks, and I've decided to email her every day while she's out. Unfortunately, I myself am going camping this weekend, so I wanted to pre-record a message that gets sent while I'm out. Unfortunately, FutureMail and FutureMe both are for sending email to yourself, probably for anti-spam reasons. I guess the best solution is to use thunderbird on my laptop (so it's shielded from power outages). Seems a little excessive to keep a computer running just to send a few emails, but whatever gets the job done :).

• Unable to outside access service from inside LAN

  I have a weird port forwarding problem. I tried to open my port 22 to the outside network. I was able to access it as long as I am not inside the LAN. I can access it from my office for example. But from within the LAN, I can access the port using the local ip, but I can't access the port using the external IP. It's as if the router is blocking the loopback. I've check all my router settings, turned off anything firewall/filtering related. Any ideas?

• DNS error only in IE

  Our Intranet page has stopped working on some machines/some user accounts. The error I am getting points to a DNS issue but If I ping the site from the command line the it responds fine. The error I'm gettting on IE is Error: The web filter could not find the address for the requested site Why are you seeing this: The system is unable too determine the IP address of intranet.example.com I'm not quite sure why it mentions the web filter as there is a proxy exception for the intranet page and if I run a trace route it doesn't go via the web proxy (filtering system). Finally it isn't affecting everyone, just random users, also it doesn't affect the random users on all the client machines they use. I have one user where it happens on any client they log onto where most its just certian clients. It's even "fixed" itself for a few peoples. EDIT: hey Mikey thanks for the fast response. Proxies are correct and automatic configuration is off (both via GPO)

• Any good PostgreSQL client for linux?

I am frustrated of not having a good Linux GUI administration and development tool for PostgreSQL. pgAdmin III is buggy and unusable piece of... hmm, software, compared to Windows-only PostgreSQL Maestro and EMS PostgreSQL manager. phpPgaAmin does not looks promising. EMS PostgreSQL manager can work under Wine, but such setup have a number of issues. Requirements are: Table data editing and browsing for large tables (1M+), able to jump by FK or some master-slave editing, GUI filtering and so on. ER diagrams with in-place schema editing Schema editing and browsing with all useful GUI support Schema changes log to put into DB versioning (migrations script). Tabbed interface to be able to work with a number of tables and SQL queries at once. And so on. Any ideas?

• How can I apply a DSP to my microphone in windows?

  I'd like to be able to run my microphone through arbitrary DSP filters--Mostly for compression and amplification, but also noise cancelation would be nice. I'd then like to take that output and put it back in a virtual audio device that I could use as input for skype, mumble, teamspeak, or any other VOIP program. With a program like Virtual Audio cable, I can do the 'fake devices' part but as far as I know it does not allow any kind of filtering inline. Does a program like this exist? Or some combination of programs that can be combined to accomplish this?

• Server 2008 blue screen after login - no desktop

  I came into work today to find that our Windows Server 2008 used as a terminal server for the Thin Clients was not loading the users desktops. What I have found out is that when I login via Remote Desktop, after applying user settings, it gets to the stage of 'Preaparing your desktop', but then the screen just goes blue. I have tried rebooting several times with no luck, and logging in locally at the server with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do not think that it could be a virus attack as we run antivirus on the server with OpenDNS filtering. Yesterday a software restriction policy was set up to only allow programs in the following directories to run if that could be the problem, although it was working fine all day yesterday.   I have currently set up my web application on Amazon EC2 server. As a well known fact sending email from EC2 has a problem. As a cheap and long lasting solution instead of using "authsmtp" is it possible to rent a server and use it as a Mail Server? I am currently looking for cheap hosting which will give me root access so that it can be configured and used as a relayhost. I am curently using Postfix as MTA. Has any one implemented this before? I am curious about its feasibility of this solution. I guess common requirements are: Dedicated IP which is not black listed Open relay( open to my Server only) Any Tips for Header configurations to keep the mails out of spam folder. This is like exactly cloning authsmtp for personal use. Any suggestions for other Mail Server software instead of Postfix?

When a user A comment to a post, the poster will get an email notification from '[email protected]' with the comment message written by user A. (Not spam) I really like Google Apps but they have sending limits 2000 sending per day, that is not suit for my case becuz I cannot have sending limits. • SPF problems with Google Apps

  I currently have an SPF record with a hostname of @ that is: v=spf1 mx ip4:x.x.x.243/32 include:_spf.google.com include:amazonses.com ~all I also have another record of" spf2.0/pra mx ip4:x.x.x.243/32 include:_spf.google.com include:amazonses.com ~all We have had a lot of email being bounced back because of spam and now when I go to http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html? and check the "Does my domain already have an SPF record? What is it? Is it valid?" it says no spf record exists. However, when I send an email using our Amazon SES script and check the headers it says it passes the SPF test. Is there something I am missing? Do I need to place that text in quotes ""? Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

• Strange IIS/Asp.net Exception Message

  I have a standard asp.net 2.0 application running on IIS 6. I have noticed some strange exception messages in the logs. They seem to be caused by random spam bots trying to submit forms. They are strange because the request string is huge and all the exception details in the event manager are messed up, they have been replaced with %21,%22, etc.. as seen in the screen shot. Is this some kind of exploit or just a bug in the asp.net exception handler/logger ? UPDATE: I traced the requests that are causing this strange log event to a bug in IE8 that causes it to request scriptresource.axd?d={html from page} as described in these links: MS Connect SO - Invalid Webresource.axd SO - IE8 Dropping Memory Pages I am still not sure why these requests would break the IIS log event like seen above, they are just long strings of jiberish being sent to the server, maybe someone reading this can shed some light on it.

• Apple Mail doesn't apply rules unless I choose "Apply Rules" manually

  I'm using Apple Mail with IMAP account. I have several filtering rules defined. The problem is that Mail doesn't apply them automatically to incoming email. Even spam isn't filtered automatically. For all incoming email, every time, I have to select e-mails and select "Apply Rules", and then rules work fine (that one time on selected e-mails only). It works like this on two separate installs of Mail with different accounts (both IMAP though). How can I get Mail to apply all rules automatically every time to all e-mails? I wonder does it ignore rules because of misconfiguation, bug or does Apple seriously expect people to use "Apply Rules" menu item regularly?

• Citadel mail server software non-DIY alternatives

  I have ha VPS on webbynode with Citadel groupware suite installed, but I'm not so happy with It. I would like to try other alternatives. This is a VPS where I do tons of experiment so it's better for me to avoid any DIY solution if not extremely easy to reinstall. In fact I destroy and rebuild this VPS frequently. I just need a mail server, with spam filtering and web access. No goupware features needed. Please don't suggest me to pass through gmail. :) Could you provide me 2 or 3 alternatives?

• SBS 2008 - Add user not seeing AD users (reconnecting or creating new mailbox)

  Using SBS 2008 - completely updated. I was originally trying to create a spam mailbox for quarantine purposes, and when I bring up the "select an existing user" it does not display any of the domain users (other than QB database user accounts installed on their server). I have tried changing the scope and still nothing. Searching reveals nothing either. Then later I noticed that we had (1) disconnected mailbox, and I tried to reconnect it to the AD user - and I got the same results. Help would be much appreciated.

• How do i find out what's preventing delete requests from working in iis7.5 and iis8?

  Our site has an MVC Rest API. Recently, both the live servers and my development machine stopped accepting DELETE requests, instead returning a 501 Not Implemented response. On my development machine, which is Windows 7 running IIS7.5, the solution was to add these lines to our Web.config, under system.webServer / handlers: <remove name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" /> ... <add name="ExtensionlessUrlHandler-Integrated-4.0" path="*." verb="GET,HEAD,POST,DEBUG,PUT,DELETE" type="System.Web.Handlers.TransferRequestHandler" resourceType="Unspecified" requireAccess="Script" preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv4.0" /> However, this didn't work on any of our live servers; not on Sever 2008 + IIS7.5 and not on Server 2012 + IIS8. There are no verbs set up in Request Filtering, and WebDAV is not installed on any of our live servers. The error page gives no further information, and nothing gets recorded in the logs. How do I find out what's preventing DELETE requests from working in iis7.5 and iis8?

  We're looking into implementing Variable Envelope Return Path (VERP) for improved bounce processing for our application. Our current mail infrastructure is MS Exchange 2007 but are in the process of upgrading to 2010. We're also implementing Postini for spam filtering. Exchange doesn't support sub-addressing (see also this question on disposable addresses) -- and VERP is somewhat of a specialized application of sub-addressing. Are there any options for implementing VERP in Exchange without putting another non-Exchange SMTP relay in front of Exchange to pre-process incoming messages? Specifically could a transport rule be created that could match against the target (non-existing) recipient, store that recipient address in a special header added to the message, and redirect the message to a pre-created mailbox? Note: we have developer resources available if custom code could be used somehow.

• Return cell reference as result of if statement with vlookups.

  I have two sets of data in excel. One contains a set of data which represents the initial step of a process. The other set of data represents the additional steps which take place after the first step is completed. Each of the data records in the "additional step data" has an id in a column. I need to find the identifying codes of the "additional step data" which correspond with the initial step data records. The problem is that I have to match the data in 4 columns between the two data sets and return the id of the "additional step data". I started by doing a combination of an if and vlookup functions, but I got stuck when I tried to figure out how to get the if statement to reference the id of the matching "additional step data". Basically I am trying to avoid having to search by manually filtering between two sets of data and finding corresponding records. Does anyone have any idea about how to do this?

  Many users like to use e-mail address in the format "[user]+[tag]@[domain]" to facilitate local filtering of incoming messages. The semantics of that is that the message should be delivered to the mailbox belonging to "user"; the user would advertise his/her address with different tags to different potential senders and would then be able to filter incoming messages according to sender (and also to track who got the e-mail address from where). The question is: is it possible to get MS Exchange (2007) to deliver messages in this format properly? If so, how exactly? Internet searches seem to imply it is not a possibility...

• Email client supporting multiple accounts

  I've been using Microsoft Outlook for a very long time, although one thing that has bugged me is how multiple email accounts are handled. As far as I can tell, there isn't a set and straightforward way of managing multiple accounts in one instance of outlook. For example, when I create an email, saving it as a draft will by default dump it into the first personal folder that I have open, which in my current case, is not where I want it. I would like all trash, spam, drafts, contacts, etc. etc. to be handled on a PF by PF basis. Now to my question: Is there a way to accomplish the task of email account "segregation" in Outlook (2007 is my current version), or is there another client that handles this in a more organized fashion? Note: I don't use most of the features in outlook (I hardly even need special formatting for my messages), I generally just send and read mail, and get a few attachments, so leaving Outlook wouldn't be too much of a stretch for me.

• Mouse button and keypress counter for Linux?

  I would like to have some kind of statistic of my daily mouse/keyboard usage to help me make my keyboard layout a little bit more efficient. There is already an question about how to do this on windows, but I would like to know I anyone is aware if this is possible under linux. Another thing I already found is key-mon, a little program for screencasts that displays your mouse and keyboard presses on the screen, which would help me achieve what I want with a little bit of python coding by myself. • Configure IIS 7 Reverse Proxy to connect to TeamCity Tomcat

  We have an IIS 7 webserver configured and would like to create a reverse proxy for a TeamCity installation using Tomcat on the same machine. The IIS server site is https://somesite and I would like the TeamCity to appear as https://somesite/teamcity redirecting to http://localhost:portnumber I have installed the IIS URL Rewrite extension from http://www.iis.net/download/URLRewrite and the Application Request Routing from http://www.iis.net/download/ApplicationRequestRouting to try and setup a reverse proxy but can't get it working. The closest answer I found is an old StackOverflow question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/331755/how-do-i-setup-teamcity-for-public-access-over-https which unfortunately doesn't have a working example. I've searched a quite a bit but can't seem to find a relevant example. Any help appreciated (apologies for the bold but the spam prevention won't let me post more than 1 hyperlink)
