  • How to install a Linux Rails gem on Windows

    I need to upload vendorize a gem which is causing problems at my host - in this case nokogiri. My host is using linux, my development system is windows. The gem contains binaries and so my local gem downloads the win32 binaries. Is there any way I can get gem to download the linux binaries, so I can vendorize and upload them?

  • Using respond_to ... format.json and jQuery Form Plugin by malsup

    Hello all, I'm having a tad bit of trouble getting the jQuery Form Plugin to work properly with a file-upload field. When I use the plugin to submit the form without a file-upload field, the format.json portion of the respond_to do |format| block is called properly. However, by adding the file-upload field, it only executes the format.html portion which makes my javascript code think that an error has occurred. Has anyone run into this before or know a way to force the plugin to always use json? Alternatively, can I modify the url that the plugin uses to force Rails to render the json? Thanks very much for any help!     I am creating a secure document portal for a client. One of the things that they are worried about is having someone upload a document with a virus. One solution that might work is to enforce that they only upload pdf files. My question is two fold: Most importantly, is a pdf document virus proof? How can you determine in a *nix environment that a file is a pdf, besides just looking at the extension. Thanks! Jonathan

    Hi all, I have this upload code. there are no problem running it individually, but when i try to add into my other codes, it did not get the $_files parameter. Im guessing it was becoz of enctype="multipart/form-data" in the form tag, based on this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1695246/why-file-upload-didnt-work-without-enctype the enctype is needed. I have used one .ashx(web handler) file for multiple file upload control in my application Now it works perfectly locally in asp.net but when i do the same thing with sharepoint with no change in code it stops working. I dont know if i need to add some dll or any supportive file to get that file upload page (using .ashx file) working in sharepoint Please help

    In a vertex shader, I calculate a vector using only uniforms. Therefore, the outcome of this calculation is the same for all instantiations of the vertex shader. Should I just do this calculation on the CPU and upload it as a uniform? What if I have ten such calculations? If I upload a lot of uniforms in this way, does CPU-GPU communication ever get so slow that recomputing such values in the vertex shader is actually faster?

  • Sending @reply in curl

    I'm writing an identi.ca client, and seems that @reply isn't working. After investigation I found that @ prefix is used by curl to indicate file upload, and escaping with \@reply doesn't work; curl doesn't remove the \ at the front. I also can't format the postfields to query string, as I need to send files on that request too. Is there any method to send both @reply and file upload in the same request?

    i started using nginx upload module (which creates upload files like /tmp/000121545) but i need paperclip to use original filename while saving files (like /public/avatars/LuckyLuke.jpg) previously in the parameters Rails were passing just "avatar"=>#<File:/tmp/RackMultipart20100413-6151-t3ecq0-0> no original filename as well, so i am wondering where from does it come in paperclip? i tried looking through plugin code but it's currently a bit too complex for me.
