• ATI Driver for HP Pavilion dv2 notebook?

  I'm looking for a Windows XP Professional (32-bit) ATI video driver for an HP Pavilion dv2 (model 1118nr). I've downloaded and run several drivers packages, but none have worked so far. The notebook has a sticker on it that reads, "ATI Radeon Premium Graphics 3000 Series" The notebook has an AMD Athlon Neo 64 CPU and it came with Vista 64, but I have a requirement to run 32-bit Windows XP. Does such a driver exist, and if so, where is it? I've tried the AMD ATI graphics drivers portal, but the "Mobility Radeon" section does not list the 3000 series. The "Radeon" section does list the 3000 series, but the package I downloaded and installed from there was not helpful. I also selected "All Graphics - Notebook" on the "Search Drivers and Downloads" page, then selected "Windows XP Professional/Home" on the OS drop down, pressed "Submit", and downloaded and installed the only choice (this single choice is listed twice), but again, it didn't seem to help.

• Visual Studio Paired Editor Panes

  Is there any way to make Visual Studio have "paired" editor panes, somewhat like XCode's Assistant Editor feature? More specifically, I'd like to replicate the XCode feature of having a .cpp file's .h partner be automatically open in an adjacent editor panel. So, when a .cpp file is opened in a text editor panel (let's say, on the left of the screen), its analogous .h file will open in another panel (on the right). That way both can be edited on the same screen at the same time, without the need to manually place both files in their respective editor panes. Hope that makes sense, I'm not really sure what terminology to use in order to search for existing solutions.

• NRF Big Show 2011 -- Part 2

  One of the things I love about attending NRF is visiting the smaller booths to see what new innovative ideas have sprung up. After all, by watching emerging technologies we can get a sense of how the retail experience might change. After NRF I'm hoping to write a post on what I found, if anything, so be sure to check back. At the Oracle Retail booth we'll be demonstrating some of the aspects of the changing retail experience. These demos use a mix of GA and experimental components. Here are some highlights: 1. Checkin We wrote a consumer iPhone app we call Store Gateway that lets consumers access information from the store. They'll start by doing a checkin when they arrive that will alert the store manager via another iPhone app we wrote called Mobile Manager. Additionally, we display a welcome messaging using Starmount's digital sign. 2. Receive Offers There are three interaction points where a store can easily make an offer to a consumer: checkin, product scans, and checkout. For this demo we're calling our Universal Offer Engine at checkin to determine the best offer for this particular consumer. This offer is then displayed on the consumer's phone as well as on the digital sign. 3. Scan Products To thwart consumers from scanning product barcodes, we used Store Inventory Management to print QRCodes on shelf label then provided access to a scanner in the Store Gateway iphone app. When the consumer scans the shelf label they are shown product information provided by the retailer. 4. Checkout While we don't have a NFC-enabled mobile phone, we have a NFC chip that can attach to a phone. We're using this to checkout using a reader provided by ViVOTech. Tap the phone on the reader, and the POS accesses the customer#, coupons, and payment information. This really speeds the checkout process. 5. Digital Receipt After the transaction is complete, a digital copy of the receipt is sent to Intuit's QuickReceipts where consumers to store all their digital receipts. There's even an iPhone app that provides easy access to the receipts. This covers about half of what what we'll be showing, so be sure to stop by. • Time Machine for Windows

  A simple Google search for "Time Machine for Windows" results in a flurry of different little apps. But instead of relying on forum anecdotes and advertisements, I call on the much wiser Super User beta community for some depth on this one. Having Time Machine running on Leopard is like a warm, fuzzy blanket of comfort that I never got with RAID, rsync, or SyncToy on Windows. I'm not asking the community what the "best" backup software for Windows is, but instead: Is there any true Time Machine clone for Windows, one that includes as many of the following as possible: Completely transparent, "set-it-and-forget-it" backup Incremental backups (changes only) for every hour for a day, every day for a month, and every week until the backup disk is full Ability to rebuild from this backup disk in case of main drive meltdown (the backup doesn't have to be bootable; neither are Time Machine disks) Extremely easy to use UI (target user == wife). Bonus points for a beautiful UI

• How do I fix postfix TLS?

  STARTTLS was working with my system earlier today. Without me altering the system in any way, it spontaneously broke. I've now been trying to fix it for a couple of hours, to no success. • Rewrite URL based off of IP on OpenWRT

  We are running OpenWRT on a WRT54GL. I have been looking for an answer to this, but I can't seem to figure out what to search for, if its possible, or what combination of programs to use. I want to be able to redirect a HTTP request from a WiFi device based off of their MAC address. This should all be transparent to the device. Basically we are trying to redirect any non-registered devices to a website to register the device (at this point, we would push a new config to the router that would allow this MAC address "full access"). Once a device is registered, it will be redirected to a transparent squid proxy server on another machine for caching/blocking certain sites. I looked at tinyproxy - popilo which redirects but I won't have the MAC address to know if its registered or not. Any help (google suggestions, programs, anything!) would be very much appreciated!

• Why old (301) links stay on Google when breaking site down to multiple domains

  Some background: We did have single site and single domain (let's call it mainsite.com) with product information, however things have changed since and product database has grown fast. So we decided to move some major products/manufacturers under their own domains (let's call one of them subsite.com) while still using our main database/codebase. What we've done: Added subsite.com domain for product 1 by Great Products Co. Some new nice looking front pages, info pages, etc. Detail pages that will use information from original db. Redirected product/group links from mainsite.com using 301 redirect. Verified that redirects works as expected. Waited some time for Google reindexing (over 30 days, I've heard it should be more than enough). Results: If I search our moved products from Google then it will found them and list them but with old links to our main page like mainsite.com/group/product1 but it should show link to new site subsite.com/product1. Links from Goole redirects as they should, as said redirects are verified [301]. Main question: Any reasons why Google would not follow 301 redirects and update links so that they will point to our new mfg/product site subsite.com?

• CRM vs VRM

  In a previous post, I discussed the potential power of combining social, interest, and location graphs in order to personalize marketing and shopping experiences for consumers.  Marketing companies have been trying to collect detailed information for that very purpose, a large majority of which comes from tracking people on the internet.  But their approaches stem from the one-way nature of traditional advertising.  With TV, radio, and magazines there is no opportunity to truly connect to customers, which has trained marketing companies to [covertly] collect data and segment customers into easily identifiable groups.  To a large extent, we think of this as CRM. But what if we turned this viewpoint upside-down to accommodate for the two-way nature of social media?  The notion of marketing as conversations was the basis for the Cluetrain, an early attempt at drawing attention to the fact that customers are actually unique humans.  A more practical implementation is Project VRM, which is a reverse CRM of sorts.  Instead of vendors managing their relationships with customers, customers manage their relationships with vendors. Your shopping experience is not really controlled by you; rather, its controlled by the retailer and advertisers.  And unfortunately, they typically don't give you a say in the matter.  Yes, they might tailor the content for "female age 25-35 interested in shoes" but that's not really the essence of you, is it?  A better approach is to the let consumers volunteer information about themselves.  And why wouldn't they if it means a better, more relevant shopping experience?  I'd gladly list out my likes and dislikes in exchange for getting rid of all those annoying cookies on my harddrive. I really like this diagram from Beyond SocialCRM as it captures the differences between CRM and VRM. The closest thing to VRM I can find is Buyosphere, a start-up that allows consumers to track their shopping history across many vendors, then share it appropriately.  Also, Amazon does a pretty good job allowing its customers to edit their profile, which includes everything you've ever purchased from Amazon.  You can mark items as gifts, or explicitly exclude them from their recommendation engine.  This is a win-win for both the consumer and retailer. So here is my plea to retailers: Instead of trying to infer my interests from snapshots of my day, please just ask me.  We'll both have a better experience in the long-run.

  For project-intensive organizations, capital investment decisions define both success and failure. Getting them wrong—the risk of delays and schedule and cost overruns are ever present—introduces the potential for huge financial losses. The resulting consequences can be significant, and directly impact both a company’s profit outlook and its share price performance—which in turn is the fundamental measure of executive performance. This intrinsic link between long-term investment planning and short-term market performance is investigated in the independent report Stock Shock, written by a consultant from Clarity Economics and commissioned by the EPPM Board. A new international steering group organized by Oracle, the EPPM Board brings together senior executives from leading public and private sector organizations to explore the critical role played by enterprise project and portfolio management (EPPM). Stock Shock reviews several high-profile recent project failures, and combined with other research reviews the lessons to be learned. It analyzes how portfolio management is an exercise in balancing risk and reward, a process that places the emphasis firmly on executives to correctly determine which potential investments will deliver the greatest value and contribute most to the bottom line. Conversely, it also details how poor evaluation decisions can quickly impact the overall value of an organization’s project portfolio and compromise long-range capital planning goals. Failure to Deliver—In Search of ROI The report also cites figures from the Economist Intelligence Unit survey that found that more organizations (12 percent) expected to deliver planned ROI less than half the time, than those (11 percent) who claim to deliver it 90 percent or more of the time. • My Big Break - this is my story and I am sticking to it ;)

  The value of undertaking new and difficult tasks can have many wonderful consequences, don't you agree? Here is the story of my big break. Remember yours? During the mid 70's I was in the Navy and worked as a computer operator at the CNO's Command and Control computer system (WWMCCS) in the Washington Navy Yard. I was a tape ape, but knew that I wanted to be a systems programmer. One day the Lieutenant in charge of the OS group was running a test that required the development system to be re-booted, and I was politely hinting that I wanted out of computer operations. As he watched the accounting tape rewind to BOT and then search for where it had just been (severalminutes) he told me if I would fix "that" he would have me transferred. I couldn't say "Deal" fast enough. Up until then my programming experience had been on Edsger Dijkstra's favorite computer (sic), an IBM 1620. It took almost 6 months of learning the assembler for the Honeywell 6000 and finding the code responsible for rewinding the tape and then forwarding it. After much trial and error at o’dark thirty I succeeded. The tape barely moved and my “patch” was later adopted by many other sites. Lieutenant Jack Cowan kept his promise and I have gone on to have a varied and enjoyable career. To Jack, and the rest of the crew (Ken, Stu, Neil, Tom, Silent W, Mr. Jacobs, Roy, Rocco, etc.) I’d like to thank you all.

  I'm working at a site similar to Foursquare and Yelp, with approximately 100000 unique requests each week that generates content, growing steadily. We are currently using: Seam as Java web framework. MySQL as DB Hibernate as ORM Hibernate Search as Index EhCache for Caching. Since our site is slowly growing out of the current setup and has a lot of legacy code, it is time for us to start thinking about a major refactoring/changing setup. Web framework We are not ready to change the language but we are leaning towards Spring Web Framework, since: Seam is no more. Almost all of us have worked with Spring and liked it. DB and ORM We have done a little research and we are thinking about MongoDB. Index Do we need to have a separate Index if we use MongoDB? Cache ? So my question is basically: If you take Spring Web Framework and MongoDB into consideration, how would a good setup be for a web application that is growing and handles a lot of logged in users generating input and performing searches?

• Xcode find in document stuck in case-sensitive

  When in Xcode editing code for my objective C files, I often press Command-F to bring up the little Find-In-Document banner across the top. Sometimes this gets stuck in case-sensitive search, and when it does that it also won't loop through the entire document and sometimes won't even display the selected found string. I can't find any options to turn off the case sensitivity, and I never intentionally turned it on. I've restarted xcode several times hoping that would be it but it's changed nothing. Slightly off-topic, but this was the best place I could think of to ask this question. Thanks for any response!

  I want to be able to download (and back up) photos tagged of me in Facebook. I'm specifically not interested in my own photo albums - I uploaded them and therefore have them already in better quality than FB. What I want are the photos other have uploaded that have me in them. I have a couple of hundred of these now, and don't much fancy three hours of right-click save-as... There seem to be a couple of utilities that pop up with a quick search, but (call me paranoid) I'm wary about giving some random freeware app my login and password. Social safe looked promising, but as it doesn't support this feature at the moment it's kinda pointless. Can anyone recommend one that they've actually used? I'd consider an open source one - I'm a programmer and don't mind digging through to check that it doesn't do anything nasty.

  I installed dnsmasq on a machine of mine (It's a Kubuntu 12.04 LTS), backed only by /etc/hosts (no connection to the Internet until later). Now, if I dig mymachine, I get 192.168.0.1, but if I try to nslookup mymachine, I get: >> connection timed out; no servers could be reached Tried also nslookup mymachine.mynicedomain.org - didn't work either. pinging (Edit:) succeeds. This happens both on the server machine itself and on other machines on the network. How can I the DNS lookups to work? What problem is preventing nslookup from succeeding?
