• WCF Blocking problem with mutiple clients!!

  Hi I seem to have a blocking issue with WCF. Say I have two users and each have created their own instance of a class exposed on a WCF host using net.tcp with endpoint something like this "net.tcp://localhost:32000/SymHost/". The class is PerSession context and concurrency is reentrant. The class exposes two methods Alive() which return a bool of true straight away and an AliveWait which I inserted which does a Thread.Sleep for 4 seconds before returning true (testing purposes). Now client 1 calls AliveWait() during which time he is blocked which is fair enough but then if client 2 makes a call to Alive() on its own instance he has to wait until client 1's call is returned - this behaviour is not what I would have expected? I would have expected client 2 to carry on as if nothing has happened or is this to do with the fact that they both share the same endpoint? Can anyone explain what is going on and how I can make sure that client 2 can call its own instance uninterrupted? Any help much appreciated!

• iPhone modal view inside another modal view?

  My App uses a modal view when users add a new foo. The user selects a foo type using this modal view. Depending on what type is selected, the user needs to be asked for more information. I'd like to use another modal view to ask for this extra information. I've tried to create the new modal view like the first one (which works great) and it leads to stack overflow/“Loading Stack Frames” error in Xcode. Am I going about this in completely the wrong way i.e. is this just a really bad idea? Should I rethink the UI itself? • casting unused return values to void

  int fn(); void whatever() { (void) fn(); } Is there any reason for casting an unused return value to void, or am I right in thinking it's a complete waste of time? Follow up: Well that seems pretty comprehensive. I suppose it's better than commenting an unused return value since self documenting code is better than comments. Personally, I'll turn these warnings off since it's unnecessary noise. I'll eat my words if a bug escapes because of it...

• Variable font height via tables in LaTeX

  I've been looking for a more elegant solution to the following typesetting problem. Consider those banners found in print media where the text is aligned like: B I G T E X T small text small text small text m o r e m e d i u m t e x t The font sizes are adjusted so that the height is scaled down for longer lines of text such that each line has equal width. I've written a small script that runs each line separately, compiles, crops the resulting pdf and then \includegraphics each in a table. This gives the desired effect but requires an both an outside script and pdfcrop (which only crops to a white bounding box). Since much of LaTeX is self-aware, I imagine it would be possible to have it recognize the width of a box and scale it appropriately so that any text fits exactly into the desired width. Any thoughts or ideas on how a pure LaTeX implementation might work?

  I'm trying to create a design for a list that looks like (and mostly behaves like) the call log, like shown here: I don't need all the design, but what I'm trying to achieve is the two-columned design with the splitter in-between, and the behavior that if I click on the main item (the left part) one thing happens (in this case, you open some details about the call), and if you press the outer right part something else happens (you call the contact). I'm pretty new to android, but I've managed to do most of the designs I wanted so far, so I don't need the entire layout for this one, only the part that does the splitting and the splitter. And if possible it would be nice to know how to map the clicks appropriately, though I think I might be able to find that out by my self.

  Hello everyone The question is actually pretty self explanatory but I will further clarify it. I am building a simple application to show a load [file] for 5 different types of [files]. So all these 5 forms will have similar GUI elements such as a listbox and a load button with a small textbox/label to show the summary of the [file]'s information. My desired effect is something like visual studio's C# template for Inherited User controls or Inherited forms. I already heavily googled the concept to look for a C++ visual studio template to the trick but I couldn't find it. The word [file] is in brackets because open file dialogue will not the trick as this list of files to select form comes form an SQL server. Thanks a lot!

  EDIT: i just deleted the entire post and reformulated the question to be more generic. I want to do a simple strategy game: map, units. Map: one class. Units: another class, self drawn. Simple questions: How does an unit should redraw itself on the map. A unit should be a JPanel or similar Swing component (just to be able to manage them as an entity with its own mousehandlers) or can be another thing, without neglecting the fact that it should be an autonomous object with its own action handlers and fields. Is this map-units model correct of a simple game that would help me to learn in a fun way Java and OOP fundamentals. Thats it!

  Django currently does not support the "Point" datatype in MySQL. That's why I created my own. class PointField(models.Field): def db_type(self): return 'Point' class Tag(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) utm = PointField() As you can see, this works, and syncdb creates the model fine. However, my current code calculates a length between two Points using raw SQL. cursor.execute("SELECT user_id FROM life_tag WHERE\ (GLength(LineStringFromWKB(LineString(asbinary(utm), asbinary(PointFromWKB(point(%s, %s)))))) < 55)... This says: Select where the length between the given point and the table point is less than 55. How can I do this with Django instead of RAW SQL? I don't want to do cursors and SELECT statements anymore. How can I modify the models.py in order to do this?

• No method found compiler warning

  I have create a class from a string, check it is valid and then check if it responds to a particular method. If it does then I call the method. It all works fine, except I get an annoying compiler warning: "warning: no '-setCurrentID:' method found". Am I doing something wrong here? Is there anyway to tell the compiler all is ok and stop it reporting a warning?   About three hours ago I started seeing the above error in my production server. It comes from a call to the sanitize gem: vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/../../activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:276:in 'load_missing_constant' vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/../../activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:468:in `const_missing' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:91:in `clean!' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:84:in `clean' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:49:in `clean' app/helpers/application_helper.rb:28:in `display_none' app/views/main/_blogs.html.erb:13:in `_run_erb_47app47views47main47_blogs46html46erb' The error only occurs on the production server (linux), not my development machine (windows) I tried rolling back my latest deployment but it didn't fix it. I've updated to sanitize 1.2.0 (which was the latest version brought down by gem update sanitize, though I note my host is running 1.3.6. Can anyone provide any clues to help fix this?

  Is that possible to make a UIToolbarButton pass an object to its target by using some exoteric method (as it seems not to be possible using regular button use)? • Simplest Way to Process Basic HTTPS GET File Requests?

  All I need to do is download some basic text-based and image files from a web server that has a self-signed SSL certificate. I have been trying to figure out how to use HttpClient to do this, but getting the SSL to work is a nightmare that seems to be way too much trouble for such a simple task. Is there a better way to perform these file downloads? Perhaps through a WebView or Browser feature? Reinventing the wheel of making a simple HTTPS GET request is a major pain, and is significantly holding up my development schedule.

• Netbeans Editor Library?

  Netbeans seems to say in several places that it supports a library to just host the "Netbeans editor" widget in some other program. It has some weird documentation that seems to say a lot, but doesn't really say much about how to use it: http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-netbeans-modules-editor-lib2/architecture-summary.html I can't seem to find any download for the "Netbeans editor library" (1 or 2), and the documentation they provide says to download the entire mercurial repository, which doesn't really help me, since it doesn't tell me what is part of this "library" and what is not. If someone could point me to a download for this library, or some minimal documentation about how to use it, that would be great. I've already seen the blog post here, but it doesn't really help with getting the library, and it seems to be talking about classes which I can't find in the Netbeans sources I downloaded (Maybe a different version?)

• Git access on Heroku deployment and others: connection refused

  I have suddenly run into an issue using git. I created a new app, went to push to Heroku and now see: ssh: connect to host heroku.com port 22: Connection refused My other previously working Heroku apps no longer work, receiving the same error. Other Heroku commands work (create, info, db:push). I also see the error when accessing Git on my unfuddle accounts. I can SSH to other services, so it doesn't look like it's my machine. Any ideas?

  Hi, How do I play video on SDK 3.2 (iPad)? Read many questions here but they talked mostly for iPhone. For example, the MoviePlayer example here http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/samplecode/MoviePlayer_iPhone/Introduction/Intro.html That works on 3.1.3 but when I run it on 3.2, it doesn't work. • Looking for an alternative to cfdump

  I think I just realized how restrictive my web host is when they wouldn't let me use cfdump. This actually kind of angers me, cause really, what harm is dump going to do? Anyway my question is has anyone written a cfdump alternative that will kick out complex types of data or can link me to a site with a code example? Can't really used cfc's or udfs either cause guess what, they're blocked too. Anyway looking for something simple that I can just paste in my cfml and I will be happy. It's sad that I used to be able to do this, but have forgotten a lot of that skillset since I moved into Flex and AS. oh and they're using cf7, so no cf8 or 9 tricks ;-) Thanks in advance.

• NSPredicate error/behaving differently on 10.5 vs 10.6

  I am using a NSPredicate to determine if an entered email address is valid. On 10.6 it works perfectly as expected. I recently decided to get my app going on 10.5 and this is the only thing that doesn't work. • sending instant messages through python (msn)

  ok I am well aware there are many other questions about this, but I have been searching and have yet to find a solid proper answer that doesnt revolve around jabber or something worse. (no offense to jabber users, just I don't want all the extras that come with it) I currently have msnp and twisted.words, I simply want to send and receive messages, have read many examples that have failed to work, and msnp is poorly documented. My preference is msnp as it requires much less code, I'm not looking for something complicated. • Consuming a USB HID device in Windows CE 6.0 using c#

  I am working on an Embedded Windows CE project and am interested in accessing a USB HID device through one of its USB Host ports. All I really need to read are the raw HID spec packets. On a windows computer, I have a working program using hid.dll, but as far as I have researched, there is no equivalent on CE. I know there is the usbhid.dll, but I'm not sure if it is applicable for this situation. I would prefer not to write a kernel level driver, as I would like to do my coding in c#. Has anyone had experience consuming an HID device on Windows CE?
