  • browser instant updates with ajax/jquery

    - by wcpro
    I'm trying to reverse engineer how facebook handles their notifications, where when you get a message you get instantly notified via the browser. I've fiddled with it for a little bit and realized that there is always a pending GET request "listening" if you will to some sort of update from the server. This appears to be some sort of observer pattern. I was just wondering if this pattern was documented somewhere.

  • Making JQuery horizontal accordion close on click

    - by user310404
    Example: http://vincent-massaro.com/map/ Currently, the script allows you to click on a piece of the accordion to open it, but it is set to close on mouseleave. When I set the mouseleave to .click, it gets confused and doesn't know what state it is in. The code controlling this is below, and the full script is in haccordion.js linked in the page source. If someone could help me modify this script, I would be very grateful! Thanks in advance. $target.click(function(){ haccordion.expandli(config.accordionid, this) config.$lastexpanded=$(this) }) if (config.collapsecurrent){ //if previous content should be contracted when expanding current $target.mouseleave(function(){ $(this).stop().animate({width:config.paneldimensions.peekw}, config.speed) }) }

  • jQuery how to set click on href in the div?

    - by faya
    Good day, I want to set click event on every anchor element in my div container. Here is an example what I want to do: ---HTML--- <div id="my-container"> <a href="page1.html">page1</a> <a href="page2.html">page2</a> <a href="page3.html">page3</a> </div> ---- jQuery ---- $("#my-container a").click(function() { var link = $(this).attr("href"); $("#my-container").load(link); }); What I want to do is to let me handle loading event of href clicks and load it to the same container. And this is must done without id, class attributes which aren't available for that hrefs. The problem is in this: $("#my-container a"). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks UPDATE People doesn't seem to get right what I wanted to ask. I repeat myself again. $("#my-container a") <---- doesn't add click events on href anchors. So how I can set click event?

    - by ilkin
    Hi all, i have a problem with this code: var par = []; $('a[name]').each(function() { if (($(this).attr('name')).indexOf("searchword") == -1) { par.push($(this).attr('name')); $('.content').empty(); for (var i = 0; i < par.length; i++) { $(".content").append('<a id="par" href="#' + par[i] + '">' + par[i] + '</a><br />'); } } }); It causes ie and firefox to popup the warning window "Stop running this script". But it happens only when there is a very very large amount of data on page. Any ideas how to fix it?

  • Cannot override the CSS at this site

    - by gdanko
    This site is overriding my CSS with its own and I cannot get around it! It has style.css with "text-align: center" in the body. I have <div id="mydiv"> appended to the body and it's normally got "text-align: left". There are <ul>s and <li>s underneath #mydiv and they are inheriting the body's 'center' for some reason. I tried this and it's still not working. $('#mydiv').children().css('text-align', 'auto'); How the heck do I reclaim my CSS!? @Grillz, the HTML looks like this: <div id="mydiv"> <ul class="container"> <li rel="folder" class="category"><a href="#">category1</a> <ul><li rel="file" class="subcategory"><a href="#">subcategory1</a></li></ul> <ul><li rel="file" class="subcategory"><a href="#">subcategory2</a></li></ul> </li> <li rel="folder" class="category"><a href="#">category2</a> <ul><li rel="file" class="subcategory"><a href="#">subcategory3</a></li></ul> <ul><li rel="file" class="subcategory"><a href="#">subcategory4</a></li></ul> </li> </ul>

  • Loading scripts using jQuery

    - by Nimbuz
    $.ajax({ url: "plugin.js", dataType: 'script', cache: true, success: function() { alert('loaded'); }}); 1) I can't get the script to load, probably due to incorrect path, but how do I determine the correct path? The above code is in init.js, plugin.js is also in the same folder. 2) Can I load multiple plugins at once with the same request? eg. plugin.js, anotherplugin.js? Thanks for your help

I have done it as below but it won't work $.fn.sumValues = function() { var sum = 0; this.each(function() { if ( $(this).is(':input') ) { var val = $(this).val(); } else { var val = $(this).text(); } sum += parseFloat( ('0' + val).replace(/[^0-9-\.]/g, ''), 10 ); }); return sum.toFixed(2); }; $(document).ready(function() { $('input.price').bind('keyup', function() { $('span.total').html( $('input.price').sumValues()/$('.num').length ); }); });

  • CodeMirror Dynamic Syntax Validation

    - by rawr
    Been trying to decide between using CodeMirror or Ace editor. I've been leaning towards CodeMirror, however there's one feature of Ace that I really like and that is how it does syntax validation. So as I'm typing there can appear a warning or error icon in the left gutter area beside the line number, and when I hover over it it gives me a little description. Is there any way to get this functionality in CodeMirror? Specifically, I'm using the css mode for CodeMirror. It'd also be nice to be able to add in my own custom validation. Thanks.

  • Cant append "used" DOMObject in IE

    - by Kein
    I have some objects, that keep created DOMObjects, like here: function category(){ var domBlock; this.block = function(){ if (!domBlock){ // Here dom-object constructor $('<div></div>'); etc } return domBlock; // jquery object, // but i test and native document.createElement } } Then i clear category's area, and append old and new received(with Ajax) objects: area.html(''); for(id in category_list){ area.append( category_list[id].block() ); } where category_list is list that contain category objects. Area is jQuery object. In other browsers (except IE) i get area with all needed categories, but in IE i get only new received categories(that just create DomObject), other old objects that keeped old DomObject not show. I know it possible make with innerHTML, but i wont keep DomObject, not text. Because DomObject keep many events. And it very hard for browser attach events for each DomObject after refresh area.

  • jeditable accidentally triggering on Draggable on nested items

    - by ripper234
    I'm using jquery-ui's draggable for drag-and-drop, and jeditable for inline editing. When I drag and drop an element that's also editable, right after it's dropped jeditable kicks in and pops into 'edit mode'. How can I disable this behavior? Edit - the problem happens because of netsting - see this example. I also added draggable to the mix to make the example more realistic (the actual real problem is in this site that I'm working on) Note - even though this question has an accepted answer because of the bounty rules, the problem is still not resolved for me.

  • jQuery slideDown() not animating (jquery-rails 3.0.4; jquery-ui-rails (4.0.5)

    - by Michael Guren
    I am following along in the latest Agile Web Development with Rails 4 book. In Chapter 11 (AJAX), the book instructs us to use the following code in the "create.js.erb" file: if ($('#cart tr').length == 1) { $('#cart').show('blind', 1000); } This code causes the #cart div to jump down without any content. After 1 second it appears. There is no sliding effect. I tried using slideDown(); as well, but the div just appears immediately. Out of curiosity, I tried slideUp(); when the div was visible. Voila. The div slid up. This appears to be a jQuery bug and wondered if anyone else has experienced this, or has any suggestions for me. Thanks.

  • IE event for right-click delete on <input> or <textarea>

    - by Jayraj
    What event is fired when you right-click on selected text in an <input> or <textarea> tag and the click "Delete" in Internet Explorer (I'm targeting version 9, but if it's good for lower versions too, all the better). On other browsers , the "input" event appears to work for all text changes through right-click so doing $("textarea").on("input", function() {...}); works. IE works for cut and paste, but not delete (JSFiddle here) although MDN claims that IE is supported.

  • Iterating Through a jQuery Object Array

    - by DeltaFox
    I know this has been asked and answered a couple times already, but I'm still confused about how to reference the current object when iterating over a jQuery array. For example, the following code gives me the error "TypeError: genH3Array[i].next is not a function". What is the right way to reference the current array object? var genH3Array = $('#Generation_II').parent(); genH3Array.push($('#Generation_III').parent());; genH3Array.push($('#Generation_IV').parent()) $.each(genH3Array, function(i, value) { if(genH3Array[i].next().attr("align") == "center") { genH3Array[i].next().next().next().insertBefore(heading.next()) } genH3Array[i].next().next().insertBefore(heading.next()) genH3Array[i].next().insertBefore(heading.next()) })

  • render json data returned from mvc controller

    - by user1765862
    I'm having js function which calls mvc controller action method which return list of data as json. function FillCountryCities(countryId) { $.ajax({ type: 'GET', url: '/User/FillCityCombo', data: { countryId: countryId }, contentType: 'application/json', success: function (data) { alert(data[0].Name); } error: function () { alert('something bad happened'); } .... format of data which sent back from controller is Name (string) and Id (Guid) Now I just want to alert Name on success first item from collection. Double checked controller sends 20 records, so it should alert first from collection but I'm getting error something bad happened update: public JsonResult FillCityCombo(Guid countryId) { var cities = repository.GetData() .Where(x = x.Country.Id == countryId).ToList(); if (Request.IsAjaxRequest()) { return new JsonResult { Data = cities, JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } else { return new JsonResult { Data = "Not Valid Request", JsonRequestBehavior = JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet }; } }

  • HTML/JS: open other website without associated coockies

    - by Tim
    I have a web shop which sends my customers to a pretty popular website to redeem their just purchased product (at my site). However, I keep getting complaints that the product has been redeemed at the wrong account. Because the other website is that popular, it often appears that when the customers computer is shared by others the wrong account was logged in (automatically by a coockie). Now I'm wondering which steps I can take to prevent this from happening, since I don't have control over the other website (which does not make clear enough who's logged in). Is there some way to open another website without its coockies?

  • Is it possible to make JQuery keydown respond faster?

    - by Drew Paul
    I am writing a simple page with JQuery and HTML5 canvas tags where I move a shape on the canvas by pressing 'w' for up, 's' for down, 'a' for left, and 'd' for right. I have it all working, but I would like the shape to start moving at a constant speed upon striking a key. Right now there is some kind of hold period and then the movement starts. How can I get the movement to occur immediately? Here the important part of my code: Your browser does not support the HTML5 canvas tag. start navigating coords should pop up here key should pop up here var c=document.getElementById("myCanvas"); var ctx=c.getContext("2d"); //keypress movements var xtriggered = 0; var keys = {}; var north = -10; var east = 10; var flipednorth = 0; $(document).ready(function(e){ $("input").keydown(function(){ keys[event.which] = true; if (event.which == 13) { event.preventDefault(); } //press w for north if (event.which == 87) { north++; flipednorth--; } //press s for south if (event.which == 83) { north--; flipednorth++; } //press d for east if (event.which == 68) { east++; } //press a for west if (event.which == 65) { east--; } var msg = 'x: ' + flipednorth*5 + ' y: ' + east*5; ctx.beginPath(); ctx.arc(east*6,flipednorth*6,40,0,2*Math.PI); ctx.stroke(); $('#soul2').html(msg); $('#soul3').html(event.which ); $("input").css("background-color","#FFFFCC"); }); $("input").keyup(function(){ delete keys[event.which]; $("input").css("background-color","#D6D6FF"); }); }); </script> please let me know if I shouldn't be posting code this lengthy.

  • JavaScript apparently waits for each AJAX call before sending another in a loop

    - by itako
    Hello. Straight to the point: I have this javascript: for(item=1;item<5;item++) { xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("GET",'zzz.php', true); xmlhttp.send(); } And in PHP file something like this: usleep(5);die('ok'); Now the problem is javascript seems to be waiting for each ajax call to be completed before sending another one. So the first response gets back after approx. 5 seconds, next after 10 seconds and so on. That's a very simplified version of what I do, since the real script involves using cURL in PHP and jQuery as JS lib. But the problem remains the same. Why do responses come back in 5 second intervals?

  • reorder list elements - jQuery?

    - by Alex
    Hello, I am experimenting with jQuery lately, and I was wondering if it's possible with js or pure jquery to reorder <li> elements. So if I have a silly list like the following: <ul> <li>Foo</li> <li>Bar</li> <li>Cheese</li> </ul> How would I move the list elements around? Like put the list element with Cheese before the list element with Foo or move Foo to after Bar. So is it possible? If so, how? Thanks!!
