  • Cisco IOS PBR - PBRing Skype

    I've got a very simple question, which seems to be extremely difficult when put into practice. I have a Cisco IOS router with two Internet links (one over a WAN, through a proxy, everywhere, etc.) the other direct Internet. Most traffic destined for the internet goes through the proxy over the WAN. I want Skype traffic (why the client uses skype, I don't know..) to go out of the Internet link, while the rest of the traffic goes over the WAN through the proxy, etc. Apparently skype is very difficult to detect/classify because of it's many adaptations to being blocked. Is there any way to identify Skype on an IOS router (2911), and set it's next hop IP/interface? Thank you, Aaron

  • Is it possible to run bash builtin from non bash script?

    Is it possible to run for example history -w for underlying bash shell from ruby script? Or better is it possible to run builtin command for bash shell knowing only its pid? The only way I found is to trap signal like trap "history -w" SIGUSR1 and then send signal to process, but I am not sure that it is a good practice and USR1 is not used by bash, also this way I can execute max 2 commands (USR1 and USR2). And I have to define trap before using it. I am on Mac so there is not SIGRTMIN..SIGRTMAX.

    I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the limitations and verbosity required to actually commit some business logic to stored procedures, using languages such as Transact-SQL or PL/SQL. I would love to convert some current databases to Oracle and take advantage of its support for Java stored procedures, but that option is not available at the moment. What alternatives would you recommend in the way of databases that support stored procedures in other languages?

Please note that I'm not interested in querying/updating data (there is plenty of DALs for that) but rather a framework which allows me to manage table schemas and indexes in a managed fashion (without using database specific SQL).     I know that hosts.allow and host.deny only affect things that are tcpwrappered, but what does this mean in practice? It seems that most people use hosts.allow to handle ssh and nfs blocking, but what other services are typically handled there? And what services AREN'T typically handled there? Edit: ok, I realize I did a terrible job of explaining what I was after. No, I'm not interested in knowing if a particular service can be handled by hosts.allow, I want to know if a service will be handled. For example, if I do an lsof -i, I get a nice list of things that are listening for connections to my box. I want to know which ones will be affected if I go stick an entry into hosts.allow (well, I really want to know which ones won't be affected).

  • New standalone ESXi 5 deployments - USB versus SD card?

    Now that the old full VMWare ESX with service console is no longer, I'm redeploying some standalone ESXi servers. I'm using HP ProLiant ML and DL G6 and G7 servers. Does it make more sense to utilize the internal USB port for ESXi or the internal SD card slot? I'm using the HP ESXi 5 build, but am not sure what the recommended practice is. Any recommendations on cards/USB drives for this purpose? BTW - these will be all-in-one storage servers with the onboard disk storage presented via PCIe passthrough.

  • Does Dynamic DNS require separate subdomains?

    Hello. I have a functioning DHCP/DNS (ISC Bind 9.6, DHCP 3.1.1) server running on Debian that I would like to add DynamicDNS functionality to. I have a pretty simple question: Does DynamicDNS require (or recommend) separate sub-domains? I have seen a few tutorials where the the clients that are acquiring their IP addresses and other networking information via DHCP are on a different sub-domain as the servers which are statically configured (both in terms of IP, and DNS). For example: All the clients are on ws.example.org and the servers on example.org. Right now all of our servers and clients are in the same domain (example.org) but spread across different zone files (because we have multiple subnets). The clients are configured with DHCP and the servers are configured statically. If I want to setup DynamicDNS for the clients should I use a separate sub-domain? What's the best practice here (and why or why not would it be a bad idea to do otherwise)? Thanks.

    I realize similar questions were asked/answered on this, but I have a subtle detail to which I can not find answers anywhere. Let's exemplify with the following DNS entries: foo.example.com A 1.1.1.1 bar.example.com A 1.1.1.2 wee.example.com CNAME foo.example.com foo.example.com MX foo.example.com.s9a1.psmtp.com bar.example.com MX bar.example.com.s9a1.psmtp.com Note the last line. My institution has that kind of MX records, where for each MX record the value has the label prepended. Question 1 is, what is the motivation for this (why not just s9a1.psmtp.com)? Question 2 is more subtle and follows.. My understanding is that an MX record should not contain any aliases for neither label nor the value, i.e. the following would be bad practice: wee.example.com MX wee.example.com.s9a1.psmtp.com Then, how should the RRs look for the alias wee.example.com?   • Single sign-on for SharePoint to MySite?

    I've got a fairly simple SharePoint 2010 farm set up: 2 WFE servers with Network Load Balancing hosting the main portal site. As per Microsoft's best practice recommendations I've set up My Sites in a separate web application. As some of the user base are not using domain joined PCs they have to login once for the portal (http://portal) and then again when the access My Sites since they're crossing in to a separate web application on a separate host (http://mysite). Portal & MySite are both hosted on the same physical WFE servers. Is there an easy way to set up some thing to stop this happening and just have them login once? I understand that there's plans for us to deploy ISA in the not too distant future - could we use ISA to manage authentication to the two sites so that the users only need to log in once?

  • Replacing a W2K3 Domain Controller - what do I need to know?

    I have a network of around 70 machines, currently with two DCs both running Windows Server 2003 (DC0 & DC1). DC0 is a five year old Poweredge 1850 and has recently become increasingly flakey, and in the past fortnight has fallen over twice. I want to replace this machine, but I'm cautious as there is huge scope for this sort of thing to go wrong. The way I imagine doing this is building a new machine then doing a DCPROMO and running three domain controllers for a month or so until I'm happy that everything is working as it should be before retiring the old machine. Particular areas of concern are the replication of roles from the current controllers (GP settings for instance) and the ramifications of switching off the machine that has, up until now, been the 'primary'. If there are compelling reasons to use Server 2008 I'm willing to do so, however I don't know if this would cause problems with my exisiting 2003 machines. Any advice on best practice or previous experiences would be most welcome.

  • Prevent Server Restart after Windows Updates

    we have a number of servers in our office, as a small hosting company, and these servers are critical to business, ... web server, mail server, db server, etc. On a semi-regular basis, when the machines get automatic updates, they just automagically reboot themselves in the middle of the night. A number of them have software which must be running on the console session (bad practice, I know, but out of my control). When they reboot themselves, these programs obviously shut down, leaving customers upset and services interrupted. How do you set a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine to NEVER automagically reboot itself after updates? And perhaps, if possible, to instead email someone so that they are aware it needs a pending reboot and can schedule it for the best time? Thanks in advance!

    We're currently using Cleo LexiCom as our server software for receiving EDI transmissions via the AS2 protocol. We have 7 trading partners per year, and this runs us about $800/year for support from Cleo. We need to expand from 7 trading partners to 10 or so, and Cleo charges roughly $600 per new host, plus an expanded yearly support fee. My question(s) are: Does anyone know of a cheaper developer of AS2 server software, and perhaps one that doesn't charge per new host? Does anyone have any clue why we are being charged an upfront fee for new hosts, and if this is a standard practice for AS2 software providers? It seems really odd that we are required to pay upfront costs for this. I could completely understand an increase in the yearly support, however.

  • SQL 2008 SP1 crashing almost daily

    Hey, almost every day our new DB crashes. It is virtual server residing on same hardware as 5 other servers, two of them beeing identical MS SQL2008sp1 and two Oracle 11g's so I can pretty much rule out hardware issues. Server has dedicated local LUN, 4vCPU and 8GB memory with 2GB windows swap file. It runs 4 instances. Primary instance is limited to 5GB memory and paralelism set to 4 running on MS SQL 2008 SP1 @ Windows Server 2008 Enterprise R2 x64. Only that primary instance is crashing. After it crashes nothing can connect to it, it's even impossible to shut it down through service manager. What I found in logs is: ***Stack Dump being sent to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\LOG\SQLDump0081.txt SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 4788 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION.   • Sharing a printer over the net from Windows 7 to Windows Server 2003

    Hi, I need to share a printer that is connected to a Windows 7 computer. The windows 7 computer is in another building about an hours drive away. The computer that needs to access the printer is running Windows Server 2008. Ive tried setting the printer as 'shared' for 'everyone' on the Windows 7 PC and accessing it from the server by adding a TCP/IP port to the IP address but the printer just wont add. From googling aparently it may need setting up as a printer server through IIS, but i'm just not sure on the best practice. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Grant Unwin

  • IIS: changing site's home directory while site is running

    I'm trying to understand exactly what IIS 6.0 (on Windows Server 2003) does when I change the "Local Path" of a web site's Home Directory while the site is running. (Specifically with regard to ASP.NET applications.) I'm trying to build support for or against this practice in a deployment scenario: e.g. deploy the new code alongside the old code, then simply switch the IIS web site's local path to the folder containing the new code. IIS seems to handle this gracefully, but I notice that w3wp.exe still keeps some handles on the old code folder after the change. That's strange to me, because I would have expected IIS to recycle the application pool if this happened. Is this safe? Is the behavior well-defined?

  • Wireless disconnects at random after upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4

    After upgrading my home server from Ubuntu 8.10 to 10.4 my wireless seemingly drops out, even though my IRC client keeps it's connection to the servers, so it looks like the machine just stops taking wireless requests. I tried to use this plugin twice, but it always generated one ddl file. Any one encountered such case before ? could u please give some advice.

  • What is the standard place for static library files on Unix/Ubuntu

    Hi, I am trying to install a library manually, well actually just put it in a sensible location preferably in my LIB path. I have a lib[...].a file and a bunch of headers pertaining to that static library file. If I look under /usr/lib/ I see only .so files, likewise for /lib/, /lib32/ etc. I figure I could chuck it in there, but is there any place where it can get cozy with other .a files or is that as good place as any? I'm not an library expert, but I'm pretty sure it won't matter functionally, but I'd like to learn conventional best practice. Also, where is the standard place to put the headers? Thanks!
