  • LuaInterface - how to register overloaded methods?

    - by JeffreySadeli
    Hello world! I'm trying to integrate Lua to my C# app when I hit a little snag. I was hoping someone with more expertise could help point me to the right direction. Let's say I have the following C# methods: public void MyMethod(int foo) { ... } public void MyMethod(int foo, int bar) { ... } I would like to register it to my Lua script environment so that I can do something like this: -- call method with one param MyMethod(123) -- call method with two params MyMethod(123, 456) I tried RegisterFunction("MyMethod", this, this.GetType().GetMethod("MyMethod")) but it reasonably complains about ambiguous match. Any ideas?

  • How do we simplify this kind of code in Java? Something like macros in C?

    - by Terry Li
    public static boolean diagonals(char[][] b, int row, int col, int l) { int counter = 1; // because we start from the current position char charAtPosition = b[row][col]; int numRows = b.length; int numCols = b[0].length; int topleft = 0; int topright = 0; int bottomleft = 0; int bottomright = 0; for (int i=row-1,j=col-1;i>=0 && j>=0;i--,j--) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { topleft++; } else { break; } } for (int i=row-1,j=col+1;i>=0 && j<=numCols;i--,j++) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { topright++; } else { break; } } for (int i=row+1,j=col-1;i<=numRows && j>=0;i++,j--) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { bottomleft++; } else { break; } } for (int i=row+1,j=col+1;i<=numRows && j<=numCols;i++,j++) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { bottomright++; } else { break; } } return topleft + bottomright + 1 >= l || topright + bottomleft + 1 >= l; //in this case l is 5 } After I was done posting the code above here, I couldn't help but wanted to simplify the code by merging the four pretty much the same loops into one method. Here's the kind of method I want to have: public int countSteps(char horizontal, char vertical) { } Two parameters horizontal and vertical can be either + or - to indicate the four directions to walk in. What I want to see if possible at all is i++; is generalized to i horizontal horizontal; when horizontal taking the value of +. What I don't want to see is if or switch statements, for example: public int countSteps(char horizontal, char vertical) { if (horizontal == '+' && vertical == '-') { for (int i=row-1,j=col+1;i>=0 && j<=numCols;i--,j++) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { topright++; } else { break; } } } else if (horizontal == '+' && vertical == '+') { for (int i=row+1,j=col+1;i>=0 && j<=numCols;i++,j++) { if (b[i][j]==charAtPosition) { topright++; } else { break; } } } else if () { } else { } } Since it is as tedious as the original one. Note also that the comparing signs for the loop condition i>=0 && j<=numCols; for example, >= && <= have correspondence with the value combination of horizontal and vertical. Sorry for my bad wording, please let me know if anything is not clear.

  • Efficiently display file status when using background thread

    - by schmoopy
    How can i efficiently display the status of a file when using a background thread? For instance, lets say i have a 100MB file: when i do the code below via a thread (just as an example) it runs in about 1 min: foreach(byte b in file.bytes) { WriteByte(b, xxx); } But... if i want to update the user i have to use a delegate to update the UI from the main thread, the code below takes - FOREVER - literally i don't know how long im still waiting, ive created this post and its not even 30% done. int total = file.length; int current = 0; foreach(byte b in file.bytes) { current++; UpdateCurrentFileStatus(current, total); WriteByte(b, xxx); } public delegate void UpdateCurrentFileStatus(int cur, int total); public void UpdateCurrentFileStatus(int cur, int total) { // Check if invoke required, if so create instance of delegate // the update the UI if(this.InvokeRequired) { } else { UpdateUI(...) } }

  • C++ Forward declaration for virtual function

    - by Gokul
    Hi, I have a class hierarchy and i am writing a virtual function in it. Say there are three classes class A { virtual A* test(); }; ( File A.h ) class B : public A { virtual C* test(); }; ( File B.h ) class C : public A {}; ( File C.h ) Now is it possible for me to avoid including C.h in B.h, by doing some kind of forward declaration saying that C is a sub-class of A? Thanks, Gokul.

  • Why is the dictionary debug visualizer less useful in Visual Studio 2010 for Silverlight debugging?

    - by Kevin
    I was debugging in Visual Studio 2010, which we just installed and trying to look at a dictionary in the quick watch window. I see Keys and Values, but drilling into those shows the Count and Non-Public members, Non-Public members continues the trail and I never see the values in the dictionary. I can run test.Take(10) and see the values, but why should I have to do that. I don't have VS 2008 installed anymore to compare, but it seems that I could debug a dictionary much easier. Why is it this way now? Is it just a setting I set somehow on my machine? Test code: Dictionary<string, string> test = new Dictionary<string, string>(); test.Add("a", "b"); EDIT: I've just tried the same debug in a Console app and it works as expected. The other project is a Silverlight 4 application, why are they different? Console Debug Screen Shot Silverlight 4 Debug Screen Shot:

  • How to set attribs in GWT?

    - by Jonas Byström
    I'm not getting any effect out of DOM.setElementAttribute, am I doing something wrong? class MyListBox extends com.google.gwt.user.client.ui.ListBox { .... protected void setHoverAutoWidth() { addDomHandler(new MouseOverHandler() { public void onMouseOver(MouseOverEvent event) { DOM.setElementAttribute(getElement(), "width", "auto"); } }, MouseOverEvent.getType()); addDomHandler(new BlurHandler(){ public void onBlur(BlurEvent event) { DOM.setElementAttribute(getElement(), "width", "100px"); } }, BlurEvent.getType()); } } (I know there are less hacky ways to change the width than to set the style attribute directly, but I don't care about css right now.) Edit: Oops, just realized that width does not change the style width, just adds a width attribute to the tag (which explains why nothing happens). Any suggestions on how to modify the style are still welcome!

  • Empty Structures compile in VB 10+

    - by Mark Hurd
    This is at least a documentation error, if not a bug. In VB.NET prior to .NET 4.0 (i.e. VB.NET 7 through 9) an empty Structure declaration fails at compile-time with error BC30281: Structure 'MySimpleEmpty' must contain at least one instance member variable or Event declaration. E.g. The following two structures compile successfully in VB10, and not prior: Structure MySimpleEmpty End Structure Public Structure AnotherEmpty Public Const StillEmpty As Boolean = True End Structure I note the documentation for the Error BC30281 stops at VB9, but the documentation for the Structure statement still has the datamemberdeclarations as required even as of VB11 (.NET 4.5 VS2012). These two Structures compile in VB11 (VS2012) as well. (Thanks John Woo.) Is there some blog entry or documentation confirming this is an intended change or a bug in VB10 and later?

  • friend declaration block an external function access to the private section of a class

    - by MiP
    I'm trying to force function caller from a specific class. For example this code bellow demonstrate my problem. I want to make 'use' function would be called only from class A. I'm using a global namespace all over the project. a.h #include "b.h" namespace GLOBAL{ class A{ public: void doSomething(B); } } a.cpp #include "a.h" using namespace GLOBAL; void A::doSomething(B b){ b.use(); } b.h namespace GLOBAL{ class B{ public: friend void GLOBAL::A::doSomething(B); private: void use(); } Compiler says: ‘GLOBAL::A’ has not been declared ‘void GLOBAL::B::use()’ is private Can anyone help here ? Thanks a lot, Mike.

  • running same query in different databases

    - by user316833
    I wrote a query that I want to run in several access databases. I have 1000+ access databases with the same tables (same names, same fields). So far, I have been manually copying this query from a txt file to the sql view in the access query design screen for each database and then run it. I did not need to change the query language - everything is the same for the 1000 databases. Is there a way to automate this?

  • Import part with specific meta data using MEF Preview 5

    - by Riri
    I have a export defined as as follows in MEF preview 5 [ExportMetadata("Application", "CheckFolderApplication")] [Export(typeof(ExtendedArtifactBase))] public class CheckFolderArtifact2 : ExtendedArtifactBase { ... Then I only want those imports with the "Application" "CheckFolderApplication" metadata. To currenly do that I read all the imports and then filter the result. [Import(typeof(ExtendedApplicationBase))] private ExportCollection<IApplication> _applications { get; set; } public IApplication GetApplication(string applicationName) { return _applications.Single(a => a.GetExportedObject().Name == applicationName).GetExportedObject(); } This feels really inefficient. What if I have thousands of plug-ins - do I have to read them all via MEF to just get one with the right metadata? If so how do you cache the result?

  • Implicit array casting in C#

    - by Malki
    Hi, I have the following classes with an implicit cast operator defined: class A { ... } class B { private A m_a; public B(A a) { this.m_a = a; } public static implicit operator B(A a) { return new B(a); } } Now, I can implicitly cast A to B. But why can't I implicitly cast A[] to B[] ? static void Main(string[] args) { // compiles A a = new A(); B b = a; // doesn't compile A[] arrA = new A[] {new A(), new A()}; B[] arrB = arrA; } Thanks, Malki.

  • What is the best way to return two values from a method?

    - by Edward Tanguay
    When I have to write methods which return two values, I usually go about it as in the following code which returns a List<string>. Or if I have to return e.g. a id and string, then I return a List<object> and then pick them out with index number and recast the values. This recasting and referencing by index seems inelegant so I want to develop a new habit for methods that return two values. What is the best pattern for this? using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; namespace MultipleReturns { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string extension = "txt"; { List<string> entries = GetIdCodeAndFileName("first.txt", extension); Console.WriteLine("{0}, {1}", entries[0], entries[1]); } { List<string> entries = GetIdCodeAndFileName("first", extension); Console.WriteLine("{0}, {1}", entries[0], entries[1]); } Console.ReadLine(); } /// <summary> /// gets "first.txt", "txt" and returns "first", "first.txt" /// gets "first", "txt" and returns "first", "first.txt" /// it is assumed that extensions will always match /// </summary> /// <param name="line"></param> public static List<string> GetIdCodeAndFileName(string line, string extension) { if (line.Contains(".")) { List<string> parts = line.BreakIntoParts("."); List<string> returnItems = new List<string>(); returnItems.Add(parts[0]); returnItems.Add(line); return returnItems; } else { List<string> returnItems = new List<string>(); returnItems.Add(line); returnItems.Add(line + "." + extension); return returnItems; } } } public static class StringHelpers { public static List<string> BreakIntoParts(this string line, string separator) { if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(line)) return null; else { return line.Split(new string[] { separator }, StringSplitOptions.None).Select(p => p.Trim()).ToList(); } } } }

  • Parameter attributes in c#

    - by ng
    How can I do the following with c# attributes. Below is a snippet of Java that annotates parameters in a constructor. public class Factory { private final String name; private final String value; public Factory(@Inject("name") String name, @Inject("value") String value) { this.name = name; this.value = value; } } From looking at c# annotations it does not look like I can annotate parameters. Is this possible?

  • treat mysql longtext as integer in query

    - by InnateDev
    I have a set field in my db that is longtext. I have used prices in this field and cannot change the field type to integer. In my query however I need to sort by these fields and assume I should treat them as an integer. is there another way to query these results to sort by price as an integer and not longtext without having to change the field type? at the moment 3900000 is smaller than 4300 in my result set.

  • Parantheses around method invokation: why is the compiler complaining about assignment?

    - by polygenelubricants
    I know why the following code doesn't compile: public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { main((null)); // this is fine! (main(null)); // this is NOT! } } What I'm wondering is why my compiler (javac 1.6.0_17, Windows version) is complaining "The left hand side of an assignment must be a variable". I'd expect something like "Don't put parantheses around a method invokation, dummy!", instead. So why is the compiler making a totally unhelpful complaint about something that is blatantly irrelevant? Is this the result of an ambiguity in the grammar? A bug in the compiler? If it's the former, could you design a language such that a compiler would never be so off-base about a syntax error like this?

  • Verify p2p node

    - by mazzzzz
    Hey guys, I have been working on a p2p namespace for some of my programs. I created a system to encrypt/decrypt the packets send/received with the class. I was using the basic public private key system: 1) encrypt the data with Symmetric encryption 2) encrypt the symmetric key with RSA. Then do the opposite when you decrypted.. I was wondering though, how would you verify if the packet was coming from where it said it was. I was going to use a basic certificate system (where you encrypt with your private RSA key, then they decrypt it with your public key), but I don't know how to do this with C#. I am using the RSACryptoServiceProvider class. Does anyone know how do this? Thanks, Max

  • How can I easily keep consistent UI settings in C# Winform application?

    - by Lukas
    I have a lot of different UserControls and would like to maintain consistent UI settings (mainly colors and fonts). My first try was this: public class UISettings { //... public void SetupUserControl(ref UserControl ctrl) { ctrl.BackColor = this.BackColor; } } to be called in every control like this: settings.SetupUserControl(ref this); As this is read-only it cannot be passed by ref argument so this does not work. What are other options to keep consistent UI without manually changing properties for every item?

  • Constructor with non-instance variable assistant?

    - by Robert Fischer
    I have a number of classes that look like this: class Foo(val:BasicData) extends Bar(val) { val helper = new Helper(val) val derived1 = helper.getDerived1Value() val derived2 = helper.getDerived2Value() } ...except that I don't want to hold onto an instance of "helper" beyond the end of the constructor. In Java, I'd do something like this: public class Foo { final Derived derived1, derived2; public Foo(BasicData val) { Helper helper = new Helper(val); derived1 = helper.getDerived1Value(); derived2 = helper.getDerived2Value(); } } So how do I do something like that in Scala? I'm aware of creating a helper object of the same name of the class with an apply method: I was hoping for something slightly more succinct.

    I've an access database table with 3 fields : Purchase date Warranty time Warranty expiry Warranty time has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 in it which corresponds to years. How can I auto-populate the 'Warranty expiry' field (which is a date field) by looking at the 'Purchase date' and then adding on the 'Warranty time' (warranty time will be 1 = 365 days, 2 = 730 days, etc)?
