• :focus in IE not working

  Hey, I've created a site with CSS that requires the :focus pseudo class. I change the 'filter' and 'background-image' effects when a textbox is selected (i.e. has focus). This works in Chrome/FF, but doesn't seem to work in IE8 (and, presumable, previous versions if IE). I tried to look for answers, and have tried to use :active - but that doesn't work. Is there a way of changing attributes such as 'filter' using psuedo-classes? Failing that, can I do it in JS with the OnClick event? Thanks

  Hi all, I have a question about the usage of TCPListener in .NET... I am thinking about a client/server application and being new to this kind of application I have search a bit around the web and the solution which come the more often is to create a new thread for each new client connection. This solution seem fine but I was wondering if it was still usable with a application where you can have thousands of client at the same time ? Of course if there is thousands of client the application will not be hosted on a small desktop but on a real server, but is it the way to design an application for a large number of client ?   hey all, im really new to ASP.Net and still havnt got my head round most of the concepts, im really having problems with variable, when creating a desktop application, any variable created in code for example int n = 10; this variable will be there until the program is running right. but in asp iv created variables which are supposed to last until the user gets of that page, so for example say i have a page which takes the users value ( call this variable n say the user type in 10) and every time the user presses the next button the code add 10 to this value. so the first time the user presses the next button n= n + 10; what i have found is no matter how many times i press the next button n will always equal 20, because the previous value is not saved !! these values are populated the first time the user enters that page, once the user clicks the next button the content of these values disappear! how can stop this from happening ?? hope this makes sense !! thanks

• How to create a custom ADO Multi Dimensional Catalog with no database

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

  I am making an application for Windows Mobile 6.1 Pocket PC (Touchscreen). I know when a Pocket PC's screen turns off, it goes into a standby mode and applications are pretty much halted in the background. My application can't do that. It needs to keep going. So my question is, how can I keep the phone alive (backlight turned on) until my application is done? An example of this would be video streaming applications such as Youtube. It keeps the phone on while the video is playing.

• Multiple video overlay - need advice

  Hi, I'm working on a project and I need some advice. Just some background, Im not a programmer though at times I do some fiddling and I am generally comfortable with more specific terms. Now for the actual issue, I have a folder with 10 small videos (4/7 secs max each) and I would like to display them full screen looping and overlaid.   I am facing issues with text box size when veiwing in Fire Fox 3.6. < input class="dat" type="text" name="rejection_reason" size="51" maxlength="70" onchange="on_change();" style is as: .dat { font-family : verdana,arial,helvetica; font-size : 8pt; font-weight : bold; text-align : left; vertical-align : middle; background-color : White; } Text box size in Fire Fox is bit smaller than IE6. Not sure why IE6 and FireFox displaying text box of diff size.

  I use CGContexts to allow the user to draw in my application, here's an example: CGContextSetLineCap(UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(), kCGLineCapRound); CGContextSetLineWidth(UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(), size); CGContextSetRGBStrokeColor(UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(),r,g,b,a); I want the user to have an "eraser" tool that actually erases - it can't draw white (that would add white to the image, which may not have a white background) or alpha (or else the stroke won't do anything). Is there a way to do this? Perhaps replacing contents of a CGContext or UIImage?

  New to objective-c xcode and core-data so sorry for the remedial question. I have set up a very simple data model: Entity1 and Entity2, both contain a single attribute (String) and a one-to-many relationship with the other. I want to scan Entity1 and depending on the results of the scan create one or more Entity2 objects that link to Entity1. How can I do this? I don’t understand how I create Entity2 type objects in code and how I would define the relationship to the Entity1 object they are related to. I come from a SQL programming background where inserting elements into the Entity2 table with the ID of the related Entiry1 entry is easy. I can’t get my head around the xcode core-data abstraction and would appreciate any help.

• How do I indicate success and failure with colour?

  I need to make a Java component that turns the background a certain colour when a process passed, and another colour when the process failed. My first thought was: green for success, red for failure. But then I read that 10% of males can't differentiate between these two colours. What would be a better combination of colours? (For the nitpickers: yes, I know that colour alone doesn't suffice, that text, shape, and noise can also be used. Nevertheless I am asking about the appropriate use of colour.)

• How do I place a DIV tag image on the very top of the page in HTML5?

  Hello there. I'm trying to put an x-repeat "grid" of images by using background-image in CSS, then using the id in a DIV tag. My intention is to put a sort of "panel", then always extends to the very top of the page, and loops with repeat-x. It works just fine without a DOCTYPE, but when I put the clean in the code, it pushes the image in the tag downwards, as if there's a margin on the top of the page of about 15 px or so. I tried top-margin, z-index, with no success. Excuse me if I'm asking a silly question, but I'm sort of new. Thanks, -Jacob

• MouseOver Trigger firing on ContextMenu with overridden ControlTemplate. Where is it coming from?

  I have this very simple ControlTemplate: <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ContextMenu}"> <Border Name="Border" Background="{StaticResource BlueBackground}" BorderBrush="LightBlue" CornerRadius="10" BorderThickness="1" > <StackPanel IsItemsHost="True"/> </Border> </ControlTemplate> I made it to create a nifty jawdroppingly beautiful rounded corner! However, when I point the mouse over a contextmenu a MouseOver Trigger fires from somewhere that draws a terribly ugly nearly square border on top of my nifty rounded border! Where is it coming from?? EDIT: The most likely cause is that the ContextMenu is an ItemsControl that holds MenuItems, even when my ContextMenu holds a single UserControl. So the UserControl is seen as a MenuItem and highlighted when the IsMouseOver==true! What is the easiest way to disable this behaviour?

• NSOutlineView not refreshing when objects added to managed object context from NSOperations

  Background Cocoa app using core data Two processes - daemon and a main UI Daemon constantly writing to a data store UI process reads from same data store NSOutlineView in UI is bound to an NSTreeController which is bound to Application with key path of delegate.interpretedMOC What I want When the UI is activated, the outline view should update with the latest data inserted by the daemon. The Problem Main Thread Approach I fetch all the entities I'm interested in, then iterate over them, doing refreshObject:mergeChanges:YES. This works OK - the items get refreshed correctly. However, this is all running on the main thread, so the UI locks up for 10-20 seconds whilst it refreshes. Fine, so let's move these refreshes to NSOperations that run in the background instead. NSOperation Multithreaded Approach As soon as I move the refreshObject:mergeChanges: call into an NSOperation, the refresh no longer works. When I add logging messages, it's clear that the new objects are loaded in by the NSOperation subclass and refreshed. Not only that, but they are What I've tried I've messed around with this for 2 days solid and tried everything I can think of. Passing objectIDs to the NSOperation to refresh instead of an entity name. Resetting the interpretedMOC at various points - after the data refresh and before the outline view reload. I'd subclassed NSOutlineView. I discarded my subclass and set the view back to being an instance of NSOutlineView, just in case there was any funny goings on here. Added a rearrangeObjects call to the NSTreeController before reloading the NSOutlineView data. Made sure I had set the staleness interval to 0 on all managed object contexts I was using. I've got a feeling this problem is somehow related to caching core data objects in memory. But I've totally exhausted all my ideas on how I get this to work. I'd be eternally grateful of any ideas anyone else has. • Cleaning up temp folder after long-running subprocess exits

  I have a Python script (running inside another application) which generates a bunch of temporary images. I then use subprocess to launch an application to view these. When the image-viewing process exists, I want to remove the temporary images. I can't do this from Python, as the Python process may have exited before the subprocess completes. I.e I cannot do the following: p = subprocess.Popen(["imgviewer", "/example/image1.jpg", "/example/image1.jpg"]) p.communicate() os.unlink("/example/image1.jpg") os.unlink("/example/image2.jpg") ..as this blocks the main thread, nor could I check for the pid exiting in a thread etc The only solution I can think of means I have to use shell=True, which I would rather avoid: cmd = ['imgviewer'] cmd.append("/example/image2.jpg") for x in cleanup: cmd.extend(["&&", "rm", x]) cmdstr = " ".join(cmd) subprocess.Popen(cmdstr, shell = True) This works, but is hardly elegant, and will fail with filenames containing spaces etc.. Basically, I have a background subprocess, and want to remove the temp files when it exits, even if the Python process no longer exists.

• Twitter API and rate limiting - I am confused

  I am new to the Twitter API, and I looked at their whitelisting policies and I am a little confused... I'm basically writing a twitter aggregrator that crawls the public tweets of a set of users (not more than 200) hourly. I wanted to apply for whitelisting, and they seem to offer account based and IP based whitelisting. Since I am using a shared hosting, my outbound IP address might vary (and twitter does'nt allow IP ranges for whitelisting). So I am considering using account based whitelisting. However, while using OAuth, is it possible for me to use account based whitelisting for a background process that crawls the API hourly?

• How to fix slow scrolling when using webkit-transform and relative positioning on the iphone

  I have implemented scrolling of a div by using relative positioning and webkit animation for the iphone, it works beautifully on desktop safari but is choppy on the actual iphone (fine on the simulator). The scrolling works by having a div nested and clipped (overflow:hidden) by its parent. I then set the top position and animate it with -webkit style declarations. The iphone seems to noticeably slow down when there are a lot of items in the inner div. Any ideas how make the scrolling smoother? This was a problem with iScroll code and my own hand coded stuff.

  If i have file for eg: a log file created by any background process on unix, how do i view the data that getting updated each and every time. i know that i can use tail command to see the file.but let's say i have used tail -10 file.txt it will give the last 10 lines.but if lets say at one time 10 lines got added and at the next instance it has been added 2 lines. now from the tail command i can see previous 8 lines also.i don't want this.i want only those two lines which were added. In short i want to view only those lines which were appended.how can i do this?

In a Desktop Appication, developed in C#, I have a function in which a object in created like this. namespace Class 1 { variables section; .... .... Function1() { local variables; try { Object1 obj = new Object1(); .... .... if(true) { .... } else { **obj.Dispose();** } } catch() {} finally {} } } The object is not disposed when the else part is executed.   Lets say i want to write a special text editor widget. How can i get the default themed colors for texts, selected text and background and which are the users default fonts? I see that GNOME does define 5 special system fonts and default sizes for this purpose in the GNOME Appearance Configuration dialog, but i haven't found a single word in the GTK documentation how to access them (and the GTK mailing list is a joke:-( ). Windows and Cocoa both give me dozens of system values. I found the GtkStyle class but this doesn't seem to be what i need.

  I want to use multiple backgrounds in css, which are currently supported by Firefox 3.61, Chrome/Safari, supposedly Opera10.5 (doesn't run on gnu/linux). • Why CSS Transitions -module does not support image-to-image transitions?

  Hi, I've read the spec for CSS Transitions Module Level 3 and I'd like to know why it does not support image-based transitions. According to the draft, the background-image transitions are only supported when using with gradients. Both Webkit and Gecko seems to follow this practice. It's just that I see this as a major drawback. HTML 5 and CSS 3 could become the killer of Flash, but if I can't even transit between two images, I don't see how one could have beautiful menus without Flash.
