  • Sql Serve - Cascade delete has multiple paths

    Hi all, I have two tables, Results and ComparedResults. ComparedResults has two columns which reference the primary key of the Results table. My problem is that if a record in Results is deleted, I wish to delete all records in ComparedResults which reference the deleted record, regardless of whether it's one column or the other (and the columns may reference the same Results row). A row in Results may deleted directly or through cascade delete caused by deleting in a third table. Googling this could indicate that I need to disable cascade delete and rewrite all cascade deletes to use triggers instead. Is that REALLY nessesary? I'd be prepared to do much restructuring of the database to avoid this, as my main area is OO programming, and databases should 'just work'. It is hard to see, however, how a restructuring could help as I would just move the problem around... Or am I missing something? I am also a bit at a loss as to why my initial construct should even be a problem for the Sql Server?! Any comments welcome and much appreciated! Anders, Denmark

    I've got a recordset that I'm filtering on a particular field (i.e. Manager ="Frannklin"). Now I'd like to group the results of that filtered recordset based on another field (Client). I can't seem to get Muenchian grouping to work right. Any thoughts? TIA!     Hi all, I'm so frustrated because of this problem, you have no idea... I have 2 classes: Post and Comment. I use EF 4 POCO support, I don't have foreign key columns in my .edmx model (Comment class doesn't have PostID property, but has Post property) class Comment { public Post post { get; set; } // ... } class Post { public virtual ICollection<Comment> Comments { get; set; } // ... } Can someone tell me why the code below doesn't work? I want to create a new comment for a post: Comment comm = context.CreateObject<Comment>(); Post post = context.Posts.Where(p => p.Slug == "something").SingleOrDefault(); // post != null, so don't worry, be happy // here I set all other comm properties and... comm.Post = post; context.AddObject("Comments", comm); // Exception here context.SaveChanges(); The Exception is: Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'PostID', table 'Blog.Comments'; column does not allow nulls.     I want to generate a graph with a large decimal number like -106.63633167743683 or 52.132235169410706. But whenever I'm entering the value in Excel sheet it is giving me value like -106.63633167743600 (as I have formatted cell with 15 decimal places). It is replacing the value of last two digits by 0. Can anyone help regarding this please?

  • How to allow the user to select an input file for my SQL AdventureWorks web application?

    I have a SQL and VS 2008 web application that I need to capture the full file path (directories and file name) from the selected file on the client computer. So user selects a file and then clicks on one of the buttons which transfers control to my code for processing. So how do I get its file path? I can get the file name, but not the path. Maybe problem is that while testing this web app, I am using the server instead of client machine. And I learned that on a server you cannot read the full file path due to security concerns. Is this true? If I just want this to work on client machine, which method/class do you recommend? And then how can I test it? My web app allows the user to select an input file and then map columns from the input .MDF file with columns from the selected Adventureworks table. Finally, after they click on the "Append" button, it adds rows from the input file to that table. So I want to capture the path info after they click this button.

I am aware of the Birt project, but I could not find any hints about how to implement it within a RCP programm and how to invoke the standard print dialog and how to pass the Birt generated report to the printer. I want to plug QuickGraph into a game and thus generating all the paths is not allowed from the time limitations the environment imposes.     I have a DataGridView that shows list of records and when I hit a insert button, a form should add a new record, edit its values and save it. I have a BindingSource bound to a DataGridView. I pass is as a parameter to a NEW RECORD form so // When the form opens it add a new row and de DataGridView display this new record at this time DataRowView currentRow; currentRow = (DataRowView) myBindindSource.AddNew(); when user confirm to save it I do a myBindindSource.EndEdit(); // inside the form and after the form is disposed the new row is saved and the bindingsorce position is updated to the new row DataRowView drv = myForm.CurrentRow; avaliadoTableAdapter.Update(drv.Row); avaliadoBindingSource.Position = avaliadoBindingSource.Find("ID", drv.Row.ItemArray[0]); The problem is that this table has a AUTOINCREMENT field and the value saved may not correspond the the value the bindingSource gives in EDIT TIME. So, when I close and open the DataGridView again the new rowd give its ID based on the available slot in the undelying DB at the momment is was saved and it just ignores the value the BindingSource generated ad EDIT TIME, Since the value given by the binding source should be used by another table as a foreingKey it make the reference insconsistent. There's a way to get the real ID was saved to the database?

I need a way to find quotes in my data (quotes aren't there every time) and place a "/" character in front of them. Example response text (wrong): {"rows":[{"id":"ABC123","length":"5""}, {"id":"DEF456","length":"1.35""}, {"id":"HIJ789","length":"36.25""}]} I would need to escape the " so my response should be: {"rows":[{"id":"ABC123","length":"5\""}, {"id":"DEF456","length":"1.35\""}, {"id":"HIJ789","length":"36.25\""}]} Also, I'm pretty new to C# (coding in general really) so if something else in my code looks silly let me know.

    Problem background Imagine this problem. You have a water molecule which is in contact with other molecules (if the contact is a hydrogen bond, there can be 4 other molecules around my water). Like in the following picture (A, B, C, D are some other atoms and dots mean the contact). A B . . O / \ H H . . C D I have the information about all the dots and I need to eliminate the water in the center and create records describing contacts of A-C, A-D, A-B, B-C, B-D, and C-D. Database structure Currently, I have the following structure in the database: Table atoms: "id" integer PRIMARY KEY, "amino" char(3) NOT NULL, (HOH for water or other value) other columns identifying the atom Table contacts: "acceptor_id" integer NOT NULL, (the atom near to my hydrogen, here C or D) "donor_id" integer NOT NULL, (here A or B) "directness" char(1) NOT NULL, (this should be D for direct and W for water-mediated) other columns about the contact, such as the distance Current solution (insufficient) Now, I'm going through all the contacts which have donor.amino = "HOH". In this sample case, this would select contacts from C and D. For each of these selected contacts, I look up contacts having the same acceptor_id as is the donor_id in the currently selected contact. From this information, I create the new contact. At the end, I delete all contacts to or from HOH. This way, I am obviously unable to create C-D and A-B contacts (the other 4 are OK). If I try a similar approach - trying to find two contacts having the same donor_id, I end up with duplicate contacts (C-D and D-C). Is there a simple way to retrieve all six contacts without duplicates? I'm dreaming about some one page long SQL query which retrievs just these six wanted rows. :-) It is preferable to conserve information about who is donor where possible, but not strictly necessary.     So I have a set up similar to this questions: Parent Child Setup Everything works great when saving the parent and the children. However, I seem to have a problem when selecting the children. I can't seem to get all the children with a specific parent. When I will finish my web site and will have much time on watching how userbase is growing I will come here again and again to answer to another people questions(if I can ) So here is the problem. I made a web-site on CodeIgniter. A social network engine. Something like phpfox, classmates_com or facebook. It's right now somehow not multilingual, So the UI strings are in the view files, and next step will be move them to the language files. I want the user to have ability to change the language. So I assume that in database user will have row "lang_local" which would be by default set to en, and then to any other language he will change . So what is eating my nervs and enery is following. I will make on this engine several demographic social networks,and I would like to manage theese web-sites in centralized manner with one backend . So whenever I would like to make a new web-network, I just add the domain settings install the script in new folder and add it in database sites I see it like this on every table in database like users,comments,messages,categories ,etc I will have a row site_id , and on each query add/update/delete I add a WHERE SITE_ID=XXX and in table sites(site_id,site_name,domain_name) will have all domains , so that in backend I can filter data by website. Is this a good way? What if i will need then to be multiserver, what about load balancing? Who can tell me what would be a right,PROFESSIONAL way? My maximum user limit for a database is something like for start 10.000 in one-two year 100.000users

  • MySQL where condition but not limited by it

I would like to run a query on my database like this: SELECT SUM( t1.value ) AS total1, SUM( t2.value ) AS total2, SUM( t3.value ) AS total3, SUM( t4.value ) AS total4 FROM pay1 t1, pay2 t2, pay3 t3, pay4 t4 WHERE t1.date = '2010-04-29' AND t2.date = '2010-04-29' AND t3.date = '2010-04-29' AND t4.date = '2010-04-29' I am generating a report on payments and I would like to see a total of payments from each table based on the matching date. The problem is that some of the tables would not meet the condition of date and I want them to show up with 0 value if not. Currently, if any of the tables does not match the date, I get 0 results. I want to display value of 0 anywhere the date is not met and other fields should appear with the found values. The perfect operand for me would be "ANDOR" so that it won't be limited by any date that doesn't math in any table. Unfortunately, ANDOR does not exist as I am aware of so what should I do ? Can anyone help ? Thanks.

I haven't done CakePHP in a while and I am trying to use the 1.3 version, but this doesn't seem to be working... If I run something like: $this->Building->find('all', array('recursive' => 2)); I get empty [Area] arrays for all the Buildings even though there are plenty of Areas in the OR_AREA table that are associated to buildings. Not only that, the Query Table doesn't even show CakePHP attempted to find anything but all the records in OR_BLDG. All the more puzzling, if I do: $this->Area->find('all'); I get all the Areas and the [Building] arrays are populated when appropriate. What am I missing?

    Hi, If I already have domain classes, and I want to be able persist them using EF via a model first approach how do I do this? For example do I go to the EF designer (in VS2010) and create the model and generate the classes, then go to these EF classes and somehow manually modify them? But then would there be an issue if I needed to change the model and re-create database TSQL from the model for updates? What's the easiest approach?

  • Building a custom (dynamic) dataset and grid

    Hi, I'm in the process of building a dynamic table in which you can add/remove rows & columns so it varies in size depending on what the user wants. Its purpose is to store properties for a product, but there can be from 1 to 10 different properties(columns) per product, and multiple instances(rows) of the product as well. Here's a screenshot of what I mean http://i40.tinypic.com/nbqkxc.jpg As you can see I need the structure to be completely up to the client which is where I'm getting stuck. I've started writing a custom DataSet that has "add column" & "add row" buttons, and have built a custom Table with Textboxes in each cell which builds from that dataset. I have no idea how to store the data on submit though, and to make it even more complex I need to store this in the database as a string which I think I can do by converting it to XML. Any help is appreciated, I think I just need a pointer in the right direction and am happy to do research from there. Thanks in advance. Marko

That was easy accomplished by: page = number_of_records_before_RECORD / number_of_pages + 1 Now I want to display the first item of today's events as the first item in that page. Maybe there is a way to generate page numbers around a record with negative values to get back.
